"I feel like he plays drums as a joke" perfectly encapsulates Louis Cole's style. He just makes it all seem so effortless.
Also, he's just a funny guy
Think it was a reference to clown core.

He's the greatest living drummer, in addition to all the other things he does. Take all the name guys today, as accomplished as they are, he blows 'em away like a cannon!
Part of the cool thing about Cole's playing is that each part is discrete-no slurring, and the bass drum is just so important.

Every note is so intentional. He plays with such conviction. It's amazing.
There's not enough video online of people struggling to learn something.
Louis Cole and JD Beck are a league of their own. So awesome how close you managed to get with some grooves. I can only listen to this and watch this in complete awe:)
Left-hander here.
Now you know how it feels when every tutorial video has Right hand notation!
The cool thing about louis is that he is right handed but play drums left handed
@@natanaelkevin2025 he’s left handed
@@ireadysucks3026 nah bro he is right handed watch his interview, ye blew my mind too bro but because of that i start to play open too and it made me play alot of beats i never thought i could do

so glad to watch one of these videos where you see someone practicing and not sounding super confident in everything they're doing, great motivation !
Great video bud!!
Saw Louis Cole at a small club in MN a few years ago. One of the most impressive performances I've ever seen.
Thank you so much for uploading this I’ve been trying to learn these since he released his video and your video has helped so much
8:09 that was my favorite part of the tutorial as well!
Thanks for show casing this in a practice session!
Thanks for sharing your gifts with us, Brandon! Also, love the merch and will purchase if it comes out. All the best...
Great video and inspiration! Keep em coming! Great stuff!
My favorite series!
Love you man)
Great work! Louis Cole is crazy sick, and you did a fantastic job trying to catch his grooves. Cheers!
"That's JD Beck stuff right there" um hm I'm pretty sure JD Beck got it from Louis
JD’s young, for sure he’s been hanging with Louis 🤙
Such great playing and editing man! Appreciate the closer, that is the kind of wisdom content consumers need to hear :)
I really enjoy your videos and lesson mate, cheers for the helpful and entertaining content!
Great playing! It’s incredible how LC keeps the velocity so even at fast tempos. Subscribed:)
Thanks for covering LC. You both are amazing in your own rights. This just shows the difference in taste and feel between musicians because you are both pros just slight differences in play style. Stay 😎
Love your content, and i love to see you work. I started to learn these louis cole beats like 2 weeks ago. one thing to work on (moeller triples), it helps A LOT. on all those triples on the cymbals and on all those ghost notes. Keep it up!
Thank you! I have no idea how he does them SO FAST! It's basically a weird finger twitch at that speed haha
@@BrandonScottDrums to be fair having good moeller triples it's half the work, because he does that weird thing that is start the triple on the "a", so the beat lands on the middle hit of the triple. that fucks your brain. because we use triples as one motion at fast speeds, but at the same time we need to feel that middle hit on the beat. so i practice that very slowly with moeller, because the ear is king even if you have great technique (which i dont think i do).
Keep the vids coming!!
@@BrandonScottDrums It's definitely not Moeller, that's for sure. Dude's a machine.
Hell yes! Love Louis Cole’s funky music and drumming. I just reached beats 4 and 5 but don’t think I can achieve their full effect on my cheap e kit. Thanks for putting out such awesome content and helping us rookies improve. So glad I found this channel.
OMG beat 2 made me feel like a new drummer. 😲Exposed some major flaws in my playing.
Fun video! Love that 2nd beat.
The “NO POCKET” pocket tee...genius. I’ll take 2 brotha👊🏻
Crazy...!! Thank you for introducing me this crazy drummer #joelmilanbaptist #Acoustings
Awsome!
This video was great!
"Sit here for like two hours"... .yeah, but it's worth it. That's where it is man.
That's great
I stumbled across the cole tutorial after seeing your jd tutorial - you did much better than my attempt at the cole beats
Beat 4 is dope!
awesome
well you encouraged me three years later im going to practice before work thanks
Awesome video man. As a bassist trying on the drums, the original video sure was humbling haha
Lol I have been learning and practicing those too. LC is a beast.
Props trying to follow Louis Cole. 🙌
I’m surprised by the timer! I always thought the “calibrating” speed ups were like 20-30 minutes. You’re actually a lot faster in your practice than I thought!
Please do make that merch would really love to have it
merch no. lc drum yes.
Since you don't want to switch hands, you might want to switch feet. The way the human body works (blood flow, nerve connections etc), these beats might be easier if you're playing with (for example in beat 1) the kick and ride on OPPOSITE sides of the body. Notice that Louis Cole is using his LEFT hand for the ride etc but his RIGHT foot for the kick. So you might want to use your right hand for the ride but LEFT foot for the kick etc. This may also make the other drumbeats easier.
Not at all interested in yet another T-shirt, but I LOVE your videos!
Yo dude i saw you struggling with the finding the end of the tape, big tip, fold it over on itself at the end before you put down the tape so there's a tab that you can just pull on. Do it almost like dog earing a page on a book.
Love your playing! Videos are fun..... You also keep it real! You must have checked out Johnny Rabb? He invented this stuff.... Also, if you have never checked out Gary Chester's book The New Breed, you must dive into it. Most relevant drum material ever presented!
Keep em coming.Love your channel!
Breaking down Louis Cole? You are a freak! ....in a good way...
You should try to do what he does in Clowncore, with both a drum and a synth...
Dude Knower is my shit!
8:42 you seem to have found saint anger
He plays a lot with his fingers because he’s so gangly that he used to injure his arms moving them around too much. That’s what he said in an interview.
Beat 3 is very Steve Gadd like
What to 9000 hi hat stand you sold it? Or it back home?
YOUR INTRO hahaha I CAN'T
Still don't have that merch? I want it!!
Blast beats next?
Nice one dude.
You can hear this Tony Williams influence. Louis Cole is awesome.
Slight mistake on beat 4: Don't dampen the snare for the e-and-a side-stick part.
JeffGraw There’s tons of mistakes. That’s the point of these videos!
@@BrandonScottDrums Heh, point taken. Mistake isn't even the right word tbh. Sometimes it's those small details that don't appear on a transcription that truly elevate something.
More this kind videos?
Not much of a shirt or poster guy but I would by the heck out of a sticker.
Louis Cole is Stewart Copeland 2.0
Me as a dumb beginner tried to learn the second one as my first ghost note beat
It took me 2 months to get it to still be sloppy
Beat number five, all I hear is bombs over a Baghdad
What am I doing here? I'm not even a drummer. I'm a trombonist.
that's packaging tape foo 🤣
The drum beat in the background of the beginning of the video has the same accents as the ph intro lol
We want the meeeeerrrchhhh
Why does the intro sound familiar?
hahaha
Absolu-freakingLUTELY I’d but a B.S. shirt🙌🏽
You should sell drumsticks with your logo-_-
I don't hear the tom on the 3rd beat. didnt in his original video either
When is your birthday?
First
Imagine if you actually nailed it
That first beat is just a regular praise break beat
You should do a drum cover to a praise break song
Like James fortune &fiya praise break ft Hezekiah Walker
yo intro sounded familiar...
2nd
If you ain't first... you're last. - Mr. Bobby
tu parece o phineas do phineas e ferb
I appreciate you are welcome to come to my house
Beat 4 is so good, the decay of the rim shot by lifting the palm sounds titties!
Merch looks rad! Put me down as a potential buyer if you get em made.
May you’re stinking hilarious to watch 😂
☝🏼 BUT Informative above ALL
You should cover overtime
why do ppl all think they can learn a beat in 1 day.. you ccan learn it but to perfect it takes quite a while. some beats iv'e learnd like david Garibaldi stuff feels so jank for the first few days, then slowly comes along then after a few weeks it's smooth then a month later it's EZ. you just gotta do it every day
I think youre kinda tensing your wrist
Lazy Brandon))
Jd Beck put dislike
I don't know if this is true yet or not, but I have a theory that the circulatory system of left-handed people actually circulates the blood in the opposite direction (well, not exactly, like the kidneys, liver don't work OPPOSITE), i. e. 'flipped' or mirror-image, so that, for example, fresh blood first goes to the dominant hand (right, for right-handed people; left, for left-handed people) and then around and later to the non-dominant hand (the other one). So the pathway is different and this causes handedness. Again, *supposition*. I'm not sure it actually works like that. Would appreciate someone with more knowledge weighing in on this.
That's called situs inversus and maybe less than 1 : 10000 people have it (I am a med. doctor). BTW Louis Cole does everything else in life besides drums right-handed, he said in a interview.
i've tried, tried and tried again, litteraly for hours, and can't come up with even one beat right... And i'm a ok drummer, not a begginner.
Who is in the same position as me ?
everytime i hear someone compare louis to jd beck it gets me so mad louis was before jd becks time and is way better
All Louis's "kick with the snare" are weird... Even the slow stuff on his album are goofy at first
If I have to hear the Pornhub theme one more time when I'm NOT IN INCOGNITO MODE, I'm gonna lose it D:
I'm almost 3 mins in. it looks like you don't know how to cop a lick.
Not my type of style (merch)
All the hours and hours he spent learning to play like his heroes made him what he sounds like now. All those layers and layers of blood sweat and tears, and you expect to be able to sound like LC in minutes? Let me be honest here, not even close my friend.
Doing these beats in the open handed position is always superior. Try transitioning away from cross sticking. Besides you'll NEVER get it to sound right. Learn to do things in the open handed position UNLESS the syncopation is extreme that your weak side can't do it at high speed. Also GET a Remote hi hat.
That's clear box tape. I've lost all confidence in you.
I'm sorry dude you cannot match the Funk of Louis
Never said I could. 🤷🏻♂️
