I was raised atheistic and became a Christian recently as well. Mss Ayaan can formulate the things I think so very well. She is an extremely wise woman and sees clearly in today’s problems of the west.

Dawkins doesn't realize that his believe of how life came from nothing is even more absurd and ridiculous than the believe in a Creator .
And that Creator is known as the Lord Jesus Christ to His believers and He is as real to us Christians as the very breath we take .
We live in miracles every day: from sunrises to a great oak from a tiny acorn a new born of any species ( what good is a baby atheist would say ). The danger in believing in nothing is there is no check on wrong thinking granted when religion goes wrong it can be disastrous but there is something to take it back on the righteous path but an ideology build on reason or hate has no such correcting mechanisms and the result is total destruction.

This woman is so elequant. I thought at first she was losing her thread in the conversation. For me, this is a great example of why we must give each other time to talk and listen, especially if we disagree. If you give others the time to talk and evolve their ideas, you and them can reach a real depth. This is also why free speech is a must for any society, and the curtailing of it will be at our downfall.

In one of Richard's books on evolution he repeatedly uses the words possibly, probably, plausibly, perhaps, presumably. In another he acknowledges that evolution cannot be proved like a mathematical theorem, so he invented a new word and said it is a theorum. In his performances he has referred to it as a fact! How come Richard? Are we supposed to believe your atheism? It is utter nonsense. 57 years ago I left university with a BSc(Hon) in physics. I have read 100s of 1000s of pages on bible, theology, philosophy, science, history etc. yet the simple faith in Christ that I came to in 1968 has given me total peace and satisfaction. This is what your opponent meant by experience.

The beauty of Ayaan’s defence is that she accorded Richard all the respect he deserved but delivered an incisive message all the same. She did not come to the debate armed with Bible verses to throw at him; that would obviously have no impact at all on a mind that believes God’s Word to be nothing but trash. Hence, I salute Ayaan for rather electing to use simple reasoning, which Richard is familiar with. To me, the effect couldn’t have been more impactful .

So, God has his plan for Richard. We need to pray for his soul to God to open his eyes to see the Greatness of God in his life.
Everything that happens in life is what he /she has done before knowingly or unknowingly with his / her own free Will (without praying for the Will of God).
Everyone is given multiple opportunities to turn to Jesus Christ in repentance. If a person chooses to deny and determines not to receive the salvation, then he / she has chosen to live the life in hell on this earth with restlessness and filled with all negativity and failed to appreciate the goodness of God for the breath and functioning of every organ without the person controlling it with his /her own command.
Jesus has purchased us with His precious blood and thus He will not interfere in anyone’s free will
I tried everything this world had to offer to try and find fulfilment, drink, drugs etc etc,etc,etc and ended up in a pit of depression, now I believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, obviously good works follow believing, like sharing your faith as this former atheist lady is demonstrates.

You would feel less frustrated if you could see from Richards point of view, and knew what he actually believes. He is interested in facts, and therefore suspicious of magic (miracle) claims. That is all. If I claim to be born of a virgin, you would not believe me (I hope). I did rise from the dead though, I was dead for two weeks! Of course this is rubbish! Dawkins does not believe it and nor do you. This is why he asked if Aayan believes it, and frankly doubts that she really does. Now Richard does NOT believe that 'nothing comes from nothing". Do you know what he really blieves? He beleives that life, and natural diversity came about by the laws of nature that we can see and verify every day.

@@anonanon2396 Your first question is poorly formed. Is the earth a law of nature? No. But it was formed by natural laws. So too the universe. We see those laws in action daily, although we cannot see the earth forming again.
The answer to your second question is Chemistry. Chemical systems formed life. We have several possibly mechanisms by which abiogenesis is feasible. One of these mechanisms was the possible way that life formed. The mechanism for the origin of species is already known. Abiogenesis is not yet know. I expect, as with the origin of species, abiogenesis will be understood and explained by natural processes. We understand the internal combustion engine. We understand plate tectonics. We understand the optics of the rainbow. These are natural processes governed by the laws of nature. It's all science.
Once scientists wondered where water (on earth) came from. Comets? Asteroids? Or was it always inside molten earth? Well tests conclusively indicate that comet water is different and inside earth water is different, but our ocean water is the same as water from asteroids, therefore that is the likely source of our water. Similarly, one of the many models of abiogenesis will be shown to be correct, even though it is not reproducible, nor known yet.
So where did laws come from. Well, they are emergent properties of matter. Objects cause shadows, or weight, as a consequence of existing and being able to interact with other things. Mathematics emerges, without being an actual thing. Counting is meaningless until there are things to apply numbers to. In living systems, ethics emerges, or becomes relavent since wellbeing is not a propety of non-beings. These are metaphysics, or epiphenomena.

Richard Dawkins reminds me so much of my father just as a quintessential, lovely northern European man. My brother, who is a physicist converted my father on his deathbed. I’m so glad he did that but I knew my father was going to heaven anyway. He was witty, charming and sarcastic, but it feels like he really knew he was wrong. I’m gonna keep praying that Miss Ali can convert Dawkins and I’m so amazed to hear her address him with respect as her mentor. This is precisely how we must address our beloved atheist friends.
Just because a person doesn't understand everything, why should it be termed as bullshit? Isn't it possible that the person may be struggling with the concept and should admit it in all humility? The fact that Dawkins considers himself an intellectual, but is unable to fit the concept of God in his brain and calls it nonsense smacks of arrogance.
Whether right or wrong, Ayan so eloquently spoke about what Christianity brings to the table. I think I would focus on that.
What is important to remember is that faith is a divine gift. To some it is like an unwanted gift. Some people struggle to accept it because it needs to make sense from an intellectual point of view. The whole point of faith in a Divine Creator is to open your heart (your spiritual mind) to experience His existence. It is not a once-off, it is and should be an experience. That's why prayer and intercession is of critical importance.
The beauty of belief in the Triune God is not to condemn those who don't believe but to pray for them, and allow God to do the rest. We can only but profess our faith to such, whether they accept it or not.

I am a Christian but I respect Richard. He does have reasons to suspect Christianity because false Christianity, hierarchical, politicized and church-centred has been a huge stumbling block to milions. When you read the Bible, you see there is Babylon the great harlot in Revelation 17, and that is the apostate Christianity. It does diserve scorn and rejectiob. But do not throw Jesus and transformed Christians because of fake Christianity, which is the most powerful weapon of Satan.

I find it perplexing why Richard Dawkins cannot understand why all humans are sinners from the sin of one man Adam. In the past, children born to slave parents in the US were considered slaves by default. The only way out was to escape or be bought free by someone. The Bible says we were all slaves to sin but Jesus bought for us our freedom.

I'm conflicted. On one hand, her choice of words "I choose to believe" bothers me. As a former atheist myself, I chose to believe, but now I just do. I've seen things that God has done in my life and it's no longer a choice I actively have to make. I'd never say I choose to believe in God; I just do. On the other hand, believe does begin with a choice. You have to decide to put your presuppositions aside and at some point, like Ayaan said, pray. Even if you're not 100% confident, pray. I also believe love in all of its forms is a choice. I could choose at any point that I'd rather sleep in on Sundays, not waste my time praying, and not giving up sin, but by the grace of God, I choose to remain faithful. I thank God Ayaan has become a Christian, and pray she builds an even stronger relationship with Jesus, and helps other non believers find him too.
I was a little uncomfortable about that too. I believe on the basis of evidence, explanatory power and experience of God. Faith is not belief without evedence. The Geek word for faith is pistis and it means to be persuaded by God. It is experiential evidence. It is a gift of God. Nevertheless, she spoke and presented herself very well. It is a matter of choice. What Dawkins do is to hide behind an atheistic view, instead of acting on the promise of God in the Bible. In that way he does not arrive to an experience: God exist. Dawkin use arguments to keep him away for taking the step of faith. May God appear to him in his home. May he then change his view and begin to believe.

Like millions of people I’ve personally experienced miracles, so I have little patience with someone who automatically rejects the possibility of miracles. If he were more honest Dawkins might argue against the words of Christ rather than Augustine. That proves nothing.

Dawkins reminds me of Voltaire. Voltaire toured all over Europe telling all kinds of bad things about the catholic church. When he was about to die, he suddenly realized his mistakes and demanded for a confession. But God whom he mocked and ridiculed for years did not grant him the grace and so he was moaning and regretting the whole night till he died. Satan quickly took his soul with him to hell. Sin well defined by Ayaan "is the character defects of both good and evil and that exist in every human being it is how we choose to choose right from wrong that makes us followers and Children of God. It's not rocket science just FAITH. How relevant it is for us, to see Richard Dawkins mock Ali Hirsi Ali - for her faith and even continue to do so after she points out what he's doing. She is a good example of how a Christian can respond to manipulation, disrespect and mockery. At some point, I suspect its not a matter of what is true for Richard, its arrogance and blind ignorance. I'm sure Mr. Dawkins has heard things like she's reporting before, but he chooses not to allow himself to entertain the idea that maybe there IS something "out there" or before space/time came into existence. Ayaan Hirsi Ali responds to him with patience, understanding and a wish to protect their relationship and in so doing there is an element of deep wisdom or maturity shown. She cares for him, he tries to dismiss her...Also, her answer involves her defense of her own right to have her own experience, something never allowed in Islam and with the decline of Christendom in the West its becoming less and less tolerated.

She has been a very militant opponent of Islam when she was still living in the Netherlands until now. Her good friend at the time, Theo Van Gogh, was even murdered for it! Now that she works for an American conservative think tank, she suddenly starts to believe in the same Abrahamic god, only from a Christian point of view...! Very strange indeed! I have more the feeling that the reason she calls herself a Christian is because in the US, where more than 70% is religious, someone who is an atheist has little chance, and certainly not in the conservative corner! She is of course quite intelligent and knows how to argue to clarify her opinion, but I still have my doubts about the sincerity of her "conversion"! Anyhow, it's her good right of course, let that be clear.
Christianity and Islam do not worship the same God. The first point is that Jesus Christ is God, and anyone who rejects this, as Islam does, is obviously rejecting God. And the way how this woman speaks in public about her faith and choosing Jesus is obviously real.
This morning we read in our family prayer, Psalm 53, "the fool says in his heart there is no God!"

Because, why does it matter to you that someone proves to you that there is a God if you truly believe there isn't. She says she chooses to believe, because believe in God or the lack of it is usually not an intellectual issue, it's a heart issue. When you have closed your mind to it, no one can convince you. If you objectively open your heart to it, your brain will accept it because of evidence. There is a reason 75% of the world's most renowned scientist of the 20th century all believe in an almighty creator. Feel free to use your superior knowledge to refuse it. Ultimately, you will face Him and your very own dishonestly will judge you. May Christ open your eyes.
