    Some very good info you put out there thanx. Now lets get to you making a better video. First off, if you put the beer down, we wouldnt have to hear you coughing because you swallowed it wrong. Second, you talk around the subject your on multiple times and then pause because you forgot where you left off. A longer video is not a better video, just a longer one. Get in, get to the point, and when your finished, you can drink all the beer you want. If need be, write your points of talk on a piece of paper and tape it somewhere, so you can use it as a reference point. You do have some very helpful tricks you gave out. Thank you for that sir. Hope my insite will help you on your next video. Take care.

    This is a great help for people with the over carbed beer. Best way to ensure a good seal is do your initial charge to about 30psi so everything seals up tight from the inside out. after your done purging then set your pressure to around 10 to 12 psi.

    Thanks for posting this video. I have watched it before and I do this technique everytime I need to decarbonate. I have pin lock kegs and what I did is I put a T in one of the gas line and attached a pin lock liquid out to 1 side and a pin lock gas fitting on the other. Works like a charm

  • @jakecpunut
    @jakecpunut  11 років тому

    Yes.. I just leave it on the serving pressure.. 10-12 psi at around 36 degrees. I actually have.. one of the nuts worked loose on the post connector that attaches to the line. That was a simple fix. You can spray starsan since it foams up quite a bit to see if you have any leaks. Usually it's either a pop-it on a post or lid oring. Just make sure everything is seated good. Cheers!

    dude, your video just got me out of a serious bind!! i had bottled several batches from a keg at this point, but got a little to generous on the CO2 (~24 psi over a week and a half)) for the batch i am bottling tonight. i went to take a sample before hooking up my beer gun, and it was a "keg o foam". hadn't seen anything like it before. per your video, i ran the CO2 line through the 'beer out' post in order to degas the keg. unlike your video, i had to deal with foam coming out of the gas release mechanism. but it got the pressure down nonetheless. and now i have liquid coming out of the beer line instead of foam. thanks a lot, sir. cheers!!!!!

    My beer and gas lines are fairly easy to swap! This really does the trick for over carbonation!

  • @jakecpunut
    @jakecpunut  11 років тому +1

    It really depends .. the length of the lines going to your taps, the temperature of the beer can both be a factor in foamy beer as well as just being over carbonated.. I would just run it at 5 psi till it equalizes and see, then bump it up if need be.

  • @yambor44
    @yambor44 12 років тому

    @jakecpunut No idea. Just throwin it out there as everyone else seems to put it on 20-30 psi for 2 days and then it's perfect they say. I find if I don't do the way I mentioned above, my beer starts out with little to no head and takes a few days to build up on tap. I serve at 12 psi and my lines are only about 6 foot long. My kegerator fridge stays at about 33-35 degrees if I stay out of it which I usually do unless changing kegs or cleaning taps.

  • @orkodan

    Thanks for your reply. I'm starting to think you're right, well I did actually bleed all the co2 but that was yesterday, so am guessing over night the keg re-compressed with the dissolved gas :/ As for the post, they're quite hard to get on so have ordered new o-rings as i'm starting to think they look a little large (they came with the kegs)

    very good question! I think probably a little but i wouldn't think a lot since you really only bleed to valve like 3 times. And I doubt any flavor would.. probably just a little aroma..

  • @jakecpunut
    @jakecpunut  11 років тому

    Sorry to hear you having problems.. it sounds like you may have not bled off the C02 in the keg first before you hooked up the line. be sure to do that or the pressure from the keg could push beer back up. The connector can be a pain to get back off but most of the time can be done without problems.. just gotta work at it.

    Cool idea to degas an overcarbed keg. I noticed you hooked up the gas in to the liquid out. I've done this accidentally before and destroyed the gas qd trying to remove it from liquid out post. It almost locked itself to the post and no amount of force could unattach it. I think the posts and for gas and liquid are designed differently from each other. Have you had any such problems?

    Hi Jake. Love your videos. Cool to see your progression from mr. Beer to all-grain homebrew guru. I've heard you mention clarity alot and your desire for clearer homebrew in some of your videos. Check out adding gelatin when kegging. I've gone from murky to brilliantly clear homebrew since I started using it. 99 cent boxes at the grocery store have 5 packets and you really just need a half pack per keg. Hope it helps. One thing i didn't mention in the vid is you could take off the out connector and switch to the gas line to make it easier to take on and off. that just takes more time and depends on if you have swivel nuts to unscrew or crimps to have to recrimp on whether it's worth that.

    so when we put the lines back on normally and put the pressure to 12 psi it pour foam again. So we used your method again and it worked but we notice its pouring beer without foam but without the C02 on. We are going to keep pouring without the C02 on and then start low pressure and slowing increase it until the foam starts again and then back it off. That sound like a plan?

    I don't know man, I bottled my Galena challenge brews (10) out of the keg at 12 psi and all of the ones I've seen on UA-cam have held good carbonation. I also set my beer at room temp or so at 30 PSI for one full week. Room temp here is 70-75 degrees. Love the Beastie Boys. Just sayin.

    This does work, however, on most corny kegs the in/out are not interchangeable, so you can't just put your gas on the out post without swapping ball locks.

      Not true. It is difficult to put on and off though

  • @cspalmisano
    @cspalmisano 10 років тому

    How is it that your liquid and gas ball-locks are interchangeable? IE - your liquid coupler fits on your gas post and vice versa? Mine will only fit on their respective posts.

    • @jakecpunut
      @jakecpunut  10 років тому +2

      Actually they don't very easily. You really have to push hard to get it on and sometimes it's a $%#@ to get back off. In reality the best way to do it is to have a spare liquid connector that you can put on the C02 line or just take the other off to use.

    @blschneider I'll admit it is a little tough to get on and off.. but so far I haven't had any problems with it hurting anything YET.. From the posts I read elsewhere I didn't see any problems but not saying it can't happen..

    So I was going to try this but now my gas line is half way on the Out post and won't move either direction - on or off - and I'm losing beer. How do I get it off the post without breaking it?

      For anyone else with this problem it took a 1 1/8" box wrench and a rubber mallet to disconnect it.

    @blschneider Thanks! Glad you enjoy the vids! Yeah I've read about gelatin but just haven't took the plunge and tried it. That's something I need to do in the near future! Thanks for the reminder!!

    wouldn't this blow alot of hop flavor/aroma off at the same time for hoppy IPA's?

    Thanks for the video Jake. I have a stout that has carbed up too much (too much for the style in my opinion, maybe approaching 2 volumes or something). How many times would you let it stop bubbling and purge to knock the carbonation down to a reasonable level for a stout (so get rid of a big chunk of the carbonation)? Thanks

    do you leave your kegs constantly hooked onto the c02 cylinder? have you ever had a slow leak? howd you fix it? or do you just keep it closed until it needs gas?
    thanksJake
