Just for clarification, "caustic" refers to strong bases not acids. Acids have a pH of less than 7 and bases higher than 7. In the bev industry they use both acid and base/caustic CIP so less an issue there. Just thought I'd pitch in given acids vs bases makes a difference in getting brew water chemistry right. @@HOMEBREW4LIFE Thanks for all of the help avoiding regret and expensive mistakes! Quick summary question - fast forward until chilling the beer at serving temp in a fridge while holding at 10-12 psi - basically after 3-4 days desired carbonation is usually reached? That’s awesome - I’m doing my first 5 gal keg soon.
Ran the bar at a big pub in England and I can tell you cleaning the beer lines on 20 taps is not great. What is great tho is the emptying of the lines at the end of shift which yeilds around 3 pints from each tap. 🤣 Then it was just a matter of showing up at 3 am once the lines were all cool enough to do the cleaning which took around 1h30 and turning that shit back on because 10am you betcha someone is showing up and wanting a pint of Guinness. Thinking turning my little Danby fridge into a kegarator but for now Botting is my go to, easier to give beers to friends and family too.
Just found your channel, been homebrewing for a few years. Looking forward to taking some of your advice into practice. I'm going to try a 30 minute mash my next brew.
Great video lads very entertaining while learning, I am about to try my first brew a coopers irish stout, I have a cooler and Guinness tap and gas I am going to use is a 70/30 mix that is used for my Guinness, so I don’t have co2 so my question is do I just Syphon the stout into the keg when I am ready to tap it as if I just syphon it to age for a few weeks in the keg without been able to pressurize it will it go bad or can I keg it and leave it for a few weeks thanks
My keg is at 12 psi but I just get a bunch of foam. How do I fix this? My current beer is a hazy ipa. I have tried to drop the psi all the way down to about 5/6 and nothing seems to work
this is off topic from brewing but I'm a photographer and I have seen you're using a sony right? that lens you got is a beast and in my opinion Zeiss glass is the best I shoot Nikon and my only way to get Zeiss glass is from a real old lens. And yours is an f/2.8 I don't see you shooting at f/2.8 for your videos but I would say around f/6.5 - f/8.0 is the sweet spot for sharp shots anyway thank you for the videos I'm just now getting into brewing beer.
Would it not be better to have a clean keg filled with starsan solution then tap out all of the starsan replacing it with C02. That way you are damn sure that you have mostly CO2 and minimal 02? The only drawback is that you have a 20L batch of sanitizer at the end of it then. I guess it does not matter that much if you are not doing pressurized transfers.
Hey, love your channel. I just kegged my first batch but think I had a huge F up. I ended up syphoning back about 1/2 a cup of star sans from the airlock. So the star sans is in the keg too. Is the beer skunked? Live and learn
I been a kitchen manager and chef for 20+ years, on the beer line topic. If you have a budwiser account and buy kegs they send someone every month or every other to clean the lines, but yes sometimes they are 50ft long and never replaced and they are still disgusting . They call it a long draw, I don't like draft anywhere that doesn't have short draw system.
Hi Can you pressurize the corny keg after raking then remove it from the Co2 supply when it is pressurized . I.e. if I take the beer in the house and pressurize it to stop the O2 getting to it the move it to the pub shed to use on tap . Many thanks jp
Great video guys. Love the channel; look forward to visiting BM some day. During yesterday’s brew day, my wife had her girlfriends over for wine. I busted up in the house for a MBC. She just stared at me and rolled her eyes. They just don’t get it.
Im looking to build a jockey box. Trying to track down the hardware and Im having trouble finding a wall shank assembly. Basically a nipple with 2 nuts and a rubber washer, or do I need 2 beer shanks and just attach a jumper on the keg side of the box and attach a gas line. Thanks braj.
Do you guys have or plan on any videos for kegging and dispensing using nitrogen? I just kegged a golden stout and am force carbonating with CO2, then using nitrogen to dispense the beer. There are very few videos out there on homebrewing with nitrogen. Looking to get the right pressure setting on my nitro tank for the stout.
Great video! Do you keep the psi at 12 to carbonate the beer and at this level to serve the beer? I have seen people carbonate at 20psi for 2-3 days and then serve between 10-12 psi. Thanks!
@@HOMEBREW4LIFE I’m not sure haha I’m new to kegging. So carbonating your beer at 20psi or 12 psi and then serving the beer between 10-12psi are the same?

Question: I’m planning to buy a kegorator next semester when I get financial aid 😅 BUT I’m still a bit confused on how kegging and carbonating works. When you said that you have to let it sit for 3-4 days on psi 12ish, what happens when that 4th day is up? Do you turn off the valve ? Or do you just continue to leave it in until your beer is gone? Also, let’s say you leave it on and it runs out like on the 2nd day from prior use, could that potentially ruin your batch? Or do you have time to go refill your co2 tank?
always leave the valve on after there's beer in it. When the beer is gone, turn the co2 tank off, purge the keg, take the lid off, and clean the clean with hot water and pbw or oxyclean. Cheer!
HOMEBREW 4 LIFE Sickassfoo, thank you BUT I have one more question What we’re to happen if your co2 tank runs out while you have the valve on? Will this ruin your oxidize your beer? And how would you just go to your local store and connected the valve ASAP ? Or are you pretty much screwed ?
if the co2 runs our, your fine. There's no way for oxygen to get into the beer. Don't go to the local store and connect a valve. There's no need. Cheer!
Hop Head ruin your beer no. But when your tank goes empty, pressure on the gas feed line can go from positive to negative. Meaning there’s potential for beer to travel up the gas feed line. I know this because it happened to me and unless you have a check valve the beer will enter your regulator which is BAD VERY BAD.

I have had a lot of trouble with a damn foamy beer, I use a ball lock with a silicone hose (about 50 centimeters) and a picnic tap so I'll try with line balancing approach, but I see a lot of videos where ppl just plug a faucet with not just a small beer line but no line at all.

So sometimes I brew 10 gallon batches (in 2 5 gallon carboy's) so the 5.18 gallon kegs just won't do. Have you ever worked with the full sized kegs? And if so are they worth the trouble?
Personally never seen a full 15.5 gal standard keg with the top easily removable like Cornelius kegs but then again I haven’t done much looking for one
Don't dump your over-carbonated beer out! CH did not "ruin" his beer. I did the same thing and saved my IPA. It might make a mess, but just shake your keg and keep pulling on the PRV. Repeat.
