One of the most important things about playing guitar is having an understanding of the chords within the key that you are playing in. The easiest way to accomplish this is to learn the formula for the Major Scale which has 7 notes. Each note has a chord and a mode scale pattern associated with it. In this lesson, i'm starting with the C Shape of the Caged System and showing you a simple way to identify and play each chord of the key you are in. I'm also showing you the Mode Scale pattern that you can use to start improvising over each chord.

1:42 2 - 3 - 6 Chords are all Minor

3:38 The 3rd Mode Scale pattern is the Phrygian Mode. In Key of D, that is F#
4:27 Key to Improvising is to try to hit Root Notes and Target Notes of each Chord
5:27 Improvising over all of these Chords in the Key of D Major Using the F# Phrygian Scale
