- When a group of young Israeli women woke up at 6:30 a.m. on October 7, they had no idea they would be making history as the first female armored crews in Israel, and perhaps the world, to participate in active battle. As an ex British tank soldier I can't express how much I admire these women. They defended their country courageously in the face of evil. Their bravery stands in stark contrast to the cowardice of the terrorists.

As an ex UN peace keeper in Lebanon from the 70s and 80s, I always had a quiet admiration for the Jewish people. Centuries of people trying to erase them has made them who they are. With my knowledge of their abilities and technology, I am very sad that they appear to have been caught out that sad day. In my opinion they have only ever reacted, when their security was at risk. People of many cultures live a happy life in Israel, and receive fair play. Who can blame the Jewish people for fighting for their survival, they are surrounded by Arabs, who's only wish, is to erase the Jewish people and Israel. Any lands they have took, were as a result of those nations attacking them first. and they are entitled to keep them. You don't reward a country who attacks you, by giving the land back to them. My granddaughter is a close friend of an Israeli girl (age 15) who was going to high school in Phoenix, but was in Israel when the war started. She and her family are Not Rushing back to the safety of America but staying there to support their country. She expects to join the army when she can. I'm proud of Naama.

I'm an IDF infantry soldier, in reserve-duty.
During "my time", there were no female tank fighters.
The female soldiers I knew back then were the lookout operators (is that what they're called in English?) - the ones looking at screens that are connected to towers with big optics, overlooking the border, into Gaza. These observation posts were always operated by women soldiers. I think it's because women generally have better ability to endure long hours of demanding, boring, work, that require maximum attention.
I visited these war-rooms from time to time, when I was assigned to a new section - to learn what they see, and what the area looks like. I was always amazed by the dedication of these soldiers - they would not lift their eyes from the screen, even for a second! literally! during the entire shift. I've never seen such dedication.
When I was stationed in a section that was covered by these lookouts - I felt safe. They were protecting me, with their eyes, and I knew that I can count on them.
Sadly, many of these lookout operators were killed or kidnapped on 7.10. They did their part - they tried to warn the commanders, but were not listened to. Heartbreaking. I wish I could be there for them.
So now I see the bravery and dedication of the female armored forces soldiers, and it's inspirational and uplifting. It seems the more we integrate women into our army, the stronger it gets.
I would like to thank each and every one of these amazing women.

As a 75 year old proud Jew, born several months after the state of Israel became a reality I have ALWAYS felt a very strong bond with the country. I have watched as it has grown & prospered under incredibly challenging circumstances. I have been amazed to see the spirit & determination of those who chose to live there to survive, but in reality NOT surprised one bit that they would succeed. I was filled with pride when my parents who are now both long gone, were able to attend the Bar Mitzvah of my nephew in Israel & of the stories they came back with of just what an amazing country it is. Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to go, but hope springs eternal, even at my age, just like my wish is to see anti-semitism completely eliminated in the world and we can all live in peace. But sadly we are very far from that reality as recent events show. I NEVER thought I would see the level of hate for our people that has surfaced in the world, including my own country of America simply because we are Jews. But what is especially troubling is to see this hate manifested in the very young. This hatred for a country & people could certainly cause anyone to doubt the ability of any chance of the Jews of the world ever living in peace even among themselves. So I was particularly overjoyed to see this video of these truly inspiring very young women responding way beyond their years to not only throw caution to the wind, but without concern for their own well-being move into action to save the innocent lives of their fellow citizens & help defend their country from the BARBARIANS who were/are trying to destroy our dream of peace. And while I'm saddened by the displays of anti-semitism, in large part, by the uneducated youth around the world over the actions carried out by the brave soldiers in defense of their country, I am incredibly hopeful after seeing these amazing warrior's at such a young age putting their lives on the line in defense of a dream that has existed in all Jews of the world for thousands of years, the RIGHT to live in peace & security with our neighbors. I pray for the safety and wellbeing of those who have taken this challenge willing and I pray they are successful. G-d bless Israel & those who choose to live there & defend their right to live in peace. I have no doubt they will be successful, especially after seeing videos such as this 🙏🙏🙏

Fear only goes so far. After you're in, training takes over and your focus is elsewhere, instead of on yourself. After the action, they probably had different feelings, but in the midst of the fight, when behaviors are timed to the split-second, there is no time to think. No time to fear.
