[Project] Tuba: "Rainbow of Love" (Epic Low Tuba Video #1)

- [Project] Tuba is a platform that I use to communicate not just music; I also feel like music can be a healing force, and after the tension over the past few months culminating with the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, I want to publish a video I originally created around the time of the 2020 election. "I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear." is a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. that resonates in my heart. I have been a fan of this video for years because of the message of the music, and also the immense talent in Ken Turner. I hope you find peace in this video and I hope this moment of humanity encourages us to look forward to a shared future of fellowship.
I LOVE THIS, can I use it on my channel? Will link to yours!
I first saw this clip on your channel, now i found the full vid + some tuba
AWESOME!
Oh, George!!!!!
I would love to hear this transcribed!
PLSSSSS
Man imagine outbassing a tuba
Nah that tuba is outbassing that bass by going an octave lower than the bass💀
@@Tacoman542 Therefore, an inaccurate performance
Plus, double bass has a deeper resonance. While not lower than the tuba, theres no need to go that low. Its tone alone makes double bass a more reliable bass instrument for orchestras
@@NevertahnProduction he’s not even talking about the double bass, he’s talking about the guy in the video, if anything you can barely hear the damn basses and not mention they’re always late, the tuba provides a much more resonant sound than them.
@@Aduysvmncmkouyf 'Outbassing' either means being lower or sounding deeper.
the double bass for sure has more resonance. its literally how it makes its sound, just like timpani.
bass being late has nothing to do with the instrument and everything to do with the player.
them not being audible only applies to tutti sections with low brass which take priority in tone. if anything, every instrument in existence has tonal priority over the string bass, however, because of that, it makes a far more fundamental sound than tuba, even though its really buried.
the tuba is like the floor of a house. its the ground that people can see and understand. the double bass is like the foundation of the house itself. you cant see it, but its integral for the whole house to sit on, at least in an orchestral setting. even if you claim this to be untrue, string bass has superior blending capability simply because it has more favourable harmonics and sits at a lower volume. the double bass was never about being heard. it thrives in quieter sections, which music definitely has. even loud sections, they create the grand floor that tuba cant quite create themselves.
even the function of the instrument itself allows itself to be a more reliable bass instrument for its adsr, transients, and the fact its bowed, thus longer notes.
overall, the string bass plays a different role than the tuba. its the more reliable bass instrument. you should read some scores and notice that the tubas are normally tacet for longer than string bass is. source; i play double bass.
but back on topic, 'outbassing' mostly means both deeper and lower. the singer can hit more impressive low notes for a voice than tuba can hit for an instrument. while an instrumentalist can hit pedal notes after a few days of practice, a singer would need to train for years to even think about hitting pedal notes. source; i played tuba and was able to hit contrabassoon Bb in about a week. i also sang bass in my high school choir. my voice was settling then, but i knew i couldnt reliably hit those low notes. even years later, i cant get much lower than E2. its not like you can buy an extension for your voice or look up tutorials to make your voice deeper. a naturally deep voice is given by chance, obviously, and being able to use that is far more impressive than pedalling on an instrument that already has that capability
Nicely done! I didn't know a human voice could sing so low!
Vocal fry is how it’s done, no human could sing such notes with a chest voice, even subharmonics
@@Tacoman542 have you ever heard of jd sumner
@@greenytoaster JD Summer cannot sing a C0 in chest voice
@@Tacoman542 that was a c1
@@greenytoaster most definitely not a C1. It was a C0. Any tuba player would effortlessly play a C1, A C0 is hard for professionals like this guy too.
I love how the word "above" is always sung in a descent to the lowest note. Reminds me of one of the verses in "The Sloth"
by Flanders and Swann.
Those low parts are literally insane what the heck
I love it!! Ole Ken and the tuba player had the same expression on their face on those lowest notes!
I love it! Paying homage to a classic. 👍🏼
This is what the internets was made for. Thank you, Mr. Fenstermacher.
If there was this song in church, I would go every day. 😁
Jajajaj
The distortions of the camera image tell me that you were actually playing and not just reenacting. Bravo!
as a tuba player, I can confirm that this man is playing the tuba.
Also as a tuba player I can confirm that the singer is not playing a tuba
Also one here, can confirm.
Extra props for including the "double rainbow" dude...
I can’t tell, were you going an octave lower then him and hit a C0 when he hit a C1?
I think yes
@@someguywithhair6439 yeah I picked up on it, every tuba player that has 4 valves can easily play a C1, this guy is a pro and it looked like it was challenging to play it and plus I can hear the frequency better now, so yeah it’s a C0
@@Tacoman542 pretty sure he is using a C tuba, he wouldn't need any valves to play a pedal C, not sure about the C0 tho.
Perhaps it is a false harmonic or something like that
@@matijajerman2005 pedal tone
that ending chord is too good with ken singing the low ass note
This is life changing and awesome
I laughed all the way through this. Between the edits, showmanship, and the genuine talent behind playing I couldn’t help but smile. Well done.
How on earth is he even getting a buzz with an embouchure like that on the low notes?! 😂 That’s damn impressive.
Almost have to bite your tongue, puffing is a requirement, not easy
Tuba really gives another perspective of just how low Ken Turner's voice really is!
Never saw anyone having this much fun playing a tubaa
Wow! I love the bass! ♪ ♪ ♪

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH - I am drummer / bassist / sub-standard-octave-scale-bass-notes obsessed musician from Finland and I love tuba as instrument - I have hand on my heart not stumbled such an inspiring instrument play video in UA-cam than this - genuinely THANK YOU for sharing this and giving some deep inspiration all the way here for me 😍🤟
Both you and Ken Turner hit some impressive notes. That's was awesome
This is one of the best things I've watched in a while
Absolutely amazing
I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOUR ENJOYING IT WHILE DOING IT ITS SO GREAT!!!
This is absolutely awesome! I love listening to this tune and those low notes, both voice and tuba are fantastic! Wow! Bravo Derek!

I can't believe how long a video was waiting for. Really cool. 👏👏👏👏
I try to play the tuba.😅😅
I realize I'm a bit late to this, but holy COW! You sound so amazing on tuba dude, never stop playing! That pedal section is simply unreal. Amazing job on that double pedal C!
Awesome, great job, I'm drunk and singing along , along the Mississippi river
Fantástico.
Great idea!!! Good job Derek!
WONDERFULL !!!
Wow, this just popped up on my recommendations, of course because I had watched that clip before but I actually had the opportunity of meeting this amazing tuba player about a month ago at an audition!
Dude you play so cleanly that was amazing
I am a young tuba player and I was flabbergasted when you played this low AMAZING
The sheer power in that thing. This man has a real talent. His lungs must be like airbags. Keep up the good work, my friend!
Your showmanship is brilliant. I loved every bit this, including the description
Tuba players. The original bass men. Bend the knee you you guys.
A bass man. Subbed.
Great Job 🌈🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
When krampus comes in your room the night of christmas eve: 2:12
I've played this on bass trombone. When the bass singer sang his low stuff. I played that octave on bass trombone.
Who knew Peter griffin could play tuba
Amazing! The lowest I've ever heard any brass instrument go! I love seeing the camera shake with the low rumble of the tuba, must have sounded immense in person.
Beautiful tone!
Great! :D Looks like you had fun!
Magistral❤
Sir. You have a new subscriber! This was excellent.
The black and white video was the perfect touch.

"Oh you play bass for a band?"
"No baby, I am the bass."
-Ray William Johnson.
I always had respect for tuba players who deal with pulling multiple slides.
i don't know who this man is but i love him
he getting into tuba pedal tone range, that's insane
Perfeito
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you sound like you are playing an octave below even the bass singer. That's insane.
You've to make a video showing how you play that low! I have a weird embouchure I use to kind low, but I can't seem to get past E0.
I can't even get past F2-
i was thinking the same lol
its an octave below at some parts
@@M0ntie 💀
@@Aduysvmncmkouyf I'm serious any lower in you'll get a botched E0
The Tuba is always a Kontrabass and sometimes a Subkontrabass ;)
I thought I could play low on Tuba. Now I know I can’t
Very good .... here of Brasil
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Que nota é essa mais grave ?
You are amazing lol
Tem essa partitura?
speak dear beauty! what is the best TUBA model to play these BASS?
The lower you go the more you distort spacetime 🤣🤣🤣
Very noice
The fact the tuna was struggling to keep up with them low notes was amazing
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the tuba might’ve been playing an octave lower than ken turner.
@@lukesakurai8403 I don't really know all I'm saying is its impressive
Tuba is as long as a school bus if you take on the piping out, so it takes much more
@@lukesakurai8403 Yeah he was playing an octave lower.
I immediately recognized this dude for playing that “titanic tuba” in that one news reel
Can I add a trumpet line on top of this?
Those really really really low notes remind me of organ pedals that are on the 32ft stop
