      great question as I will most likely upgrade to a 5th wheel in the next 1-2 years and also thought about that- It appears that it should fit perfect as there's plenty of space between the tank and hitch mount location. long bed would prob give you a 100% guarantee yes- and I think depending on the 5th wheel mount you end up going with - it should fit like a glove. Ill do another video update once I do get a 5th wheel as I plan to have that tank there forever- if you send me a msg on Instagram, I can send you a picture of the hitch type bed mount I'm looking into for 5th wheels

    Years ago I bought a Northern Tool “fuel n tool” auxiliary tank with a toolbox on top. Tank was 55 gallons. I took a trip out of town to buy something and on my way back stopped to fill up my F150 factory tank and auxiliary. I was on the farthest pump at a station I’d never been to. Filling the F150 tank, then the 55 gallon auxiliary tank took around 20 minutes. The young female clerk was quite puzzled by the amount of gas I was pumping into an F150 so I told her about the auxiliary tank. A few years later the gas tank in my F150 started leaking so I bypassed it and hooked up the auxiliary tank. I could drive the truck a long time with a 55 gallon tank.

    I purchased a better built transfer steel tank for gasoline. I called the company they said do not put gas because it would explode from pressure build up . How did you manage this issue. I purchased a 100 gallon tank. Your feed back will be deeply appreciated.

    • @thatoffroadfamily
      @thatoffroadfamily  Рік тому

      So Better Built tanks are primary non flammable liquids only, I think that’s just their focus and a way to keep costs low. Their construction can’t handle the pressure of expanding gasses the way Transfer Flow does. I don’t believe that company makes tanks for gasoline. Even though their caps do have a vent just like Transfer Flow tanks. Transfer Flow tanks are DOT approved for both Diesel and Gasoline. In fact they send out a sticker for you to put on the tank to mark what fluid is in their in case there’s ever an emergency and it needs to be identified. I know that Transfer Flow uses 14 gauge aluminum vs 11 on Better Built which I’m sure is part of the reasoning of why they only do diesel. Ive had my tank now for over a year now- we took the truck with it installed form WA to FL on a road trip and back last summer and we spent most of our time in the south heat of TX, AZ, and FL and we had absolutely zero issues with it. Its pretty amazing! I never filled it up to the very top when I was in 90+ degree weather, but did have most of the capacity filled and zero issues with heat. In addition to the cap having a vent, there’s also a vent with tube on top that you route out of the bed.

    • @thatoffroadfamily

    I'm looking to add a transfer tank to my 2022 f350 7.3L. ATI makes a 50 gal tank that is DOT for gas. Good dimensions in the bed and with the 5th wheel. I can also get it for $624 shipped. I'm going to plumb it to direct fill the gas tank vs a pump handle. I don't want to have to stop haha. I know I need an outlet hose from top of tank to a pump and filter, then a return hose to the top of the tank. I also might need to T into the breather hose? I'm a little unclear on this one. But all in all, I think I can get it together for less than $700. Any thoughts on this? Or have you happened to find a good resource on this info?

    • @thatoffroadfamily
      @thatoffroadfamily  Рік тому +2

      dang thats a good price!!! almost half the price of mine and is 50 vs 40 gal. BUT, for me I wanted to make mine a transfer vs auxiliary because I also pump gas into my other daily car when I get super cheap gas for the truck and just load it up. and your not allowed to have a pump on it If you connect it to the truck gas tank. so I guess its preference. I did a little research on connecting it to the current system but sounded like way too much to deal with so I ended up with transfer tank instead. But here's the forum I was reading that was half for auxiliary tank : www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1571278-auxiliary-fuel-tank-setup.html

    • @thatoffroadfamily
      @thatoffroadfamily  Рік тому +1

      Yes such a great upgrade!! Thanks for watching and taking a moment to comment. I live in WA- here if you add a pump to the tank its considered a transfer tank and can not be connected to the fuel line of the truck. If it’s used as Auxiliary tank (aka no pump) then your allowed to connect to the fuel line and in essence if you use a kit you wouldn’t ever have to stop for 700-800 miles, since it would be using both fuel tanks in conjunction.

    • @muskaman2k

I'm really, really tempted to put this in my F350 for the exact reasons that you are, but it does make me nervous to carry around this much extra gas. It seems like you have used this for at least a while -- how are you feeling about things from a safety perspective?
    Also, I see a black hose going out of that tank vent -- are you venting it out of the bed out of one of those plastic grommets toward the front of the bed?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @thatoffroadfamily
      @thatoffroadfamily  Рік тому

      yes I've been running it for a year and don't have any safety worry. its usually about 3/4 full- while not traveling i use ti to fuel up the other car at home when i come across cheap gas or Costco. I have zero problems with it and use it on a biweekly basis. pump works flawless and no leaks. yes you are right on point on that tank vent, I have it going out the grommet. It helps a ton with ventilation, but i still do get a wift of it here and there when i open the bed cover sometimes.
