The A7 in 2024 is not for beginners, no way, it is for advance enthusiasts, who understands the power of this camera, this was the only Sony A7 camera with slim and elegant camera body design, with the A7II they started making the grip bigger and bigger and the body thicker and thicker. I remember, when my daughter (22) took the A7II in her hands, she put it back saying "no this is a behemoth". You can buy like-new in-original-box cameras around 450EUR. I still have mine, it is a bit battered since it was used by my daughter for a number of long years. Amazing how sturdy this camera is. For beginners, I'd recommend the A7II. The original A7 is only for advanced photographers.

She clearly hasn't tried real behemoths like canon or Nikon 😁

We sometimes forget the science of the system, it teaches you so much more than photography in that you have a small computer in your hands....i found-out how much i didn't know when i got this camera...(i,e. how to set my all around profile from camera to computer to printer and so forth) it trully is a learning experience, glad i got two of the A7 series systems.

I just got one used in mint condition it definitely is still a professional camera for stills and 1080p video quality and durability not to mention it has a 1 million pixel lcd screen something the new version doesn’t have anymore 😮

We’re the same! I use my iPhone 15 pro max for all my video productions and A7 for my photography. I bought this is 2013 and I still use it a lot! It drinks battery though.

I still enjoy using my original A7 fairly often, mostly with vintage lenses or the Samyang 45mm.

Get a used A7II for cheap, so you get IBIS with it. And it's also around 300 - 500 € in good used conditions.

@@frantotti9754 They are different tools, if you’re looking for full control over your image go for the A7, with a bit of effort, you will get superior results to a smartphone in my opinion. If on the other hand you want good images without hassle, a modern smartphone may suit you better.

    Hello,
I just bought a used Sony a7R. Got lucky finding crazy good offer (400EU bundled with an FE 3.5-5.6/28-70 Optical Steady Shot Lense) under 3k shutter count.
I am COMPLETELY new to photography, and was originally aiming to get a second hand Sony a6000.
Now, the question i have is: Where do I start?
If you'd be so kind to provide some useful links about photography, lenses, etc., I'd appreciate it very much.
I'm also quite fascinated by those "old film lenses" you mentioned, and by the photos made with them.
If you could tell me the model names of those, that would be grand.
Amazing vid. Made me Buy the thing soon as i saw an opportunity.

I purchased a second-hand a7 and I hope I made the right choice. I'm coming from a Nex C3 model and I really liked the sensor on that little camera, but the constant calculations of the crop factor and the inability to use the vintage lenses that I have to their full potential (Helios swirly bokeh for example), plus the lack of a viewfinder, made me check out the a7.

I always find that reviews compare the A7 and A7II with the latest full frame camera models. Which is fine if you have £1600+ to spend on a camera body only and NEED the extra technology. Try comparing the Sony A7 and A7II with digital cameras generally. I use a Sony A7II to take photos in a theatre with no flash and very low light. I fix the aperture and the shutter speed and let the auto ISO do its work. I cannot risk doing the same with lesser cameras. The pictures are sharp and noise free. It has full-frame. Travel cameras, pocket cameras, bridge cameras and smart phones will not cut it. They don't have the dynamic range or the sensitivity of full-frame. And yes, I have tried using them in the past.

I have a collection of old Canon FD film lenses and was about to sell them until I discovered the A7, its low price and the fact that I can use the Canon FD primes. I'm not into video but my favourite genre is landscapes with a little astro as well. So this is a very welcome (& may I say, very well produced) video review. So, I'm now seriously shopping around for this apparently superbly designed camera. Many thanks. I subscribed.

keep the FD's, or sell them to me. I am in the same boat, i shoot film still and want to go digital using fd lens for a while. FD will work get an adpater ring that let's you lock the aperture correctly is all. i have a fotodiox one and it's weird with it.

I use it just for music gigs, in low light situations, because it's small, and I don't care is I use it with prime lenses. Using modern software noise reduction, you don't care about high ISO as well. Jus fit cheap ptime lenses and jump into a crowd on gig!!!

I own this camera, I have been using it for 5 or 6 years now, and it's a fantastic camera, however, the colour is not as pleasing to the eye as those of the canons, I don't know whether it's a personal preference, but I kind of lean slightly towards the canon 5d and 6d series. Although this camera has a lot to offer, image quality is just fantabulous, depending on the glass you use of course, but with nifty fifty you're good to go. You can get amazing shots and great video footage.
