  • This is an extract from a promotional film detailing the full range of Ford cars in the USA for 1965.This marked the launch of the Mustang 2 + 2. The small rear seats could also be folded down to increase luggage space for such essentials as golf cubs or skis. Tagged "the ultimate sports car" the all-red model featured in this film is certainly very eye-catching.

The mid sixties is the absolute pinnacle of automobile design, domestic and foreign, to my eyes and the Mustang belongs in that class.

Back in the day, my best friend's older brother had a 66 Mustang that I drove a couple times and rode in many times. I drove a 69 Charger as a daily driver for more than a decade. They were beautiful cars, but safety, handling, performance, economy and useful features of modern cars make them better in our memories than they would compare to what we drive today. My plan is to get an old unrestored 60's car and send it to a company like EV West to be updated to electric, then do the same to rest of the systems (like brakes!). That is the "snortin', sportin' rally type car" of the future.

Do you really want to ruin a classic? And EV's are a long way off from being a valid replacement for ICE's, if that ever happens. I'm not waiting over an hour for a charge.

@@MisterMikeTexas No, I don't want to ruin a classic. I wouldn't take a numbers car and swap it out. Someone like you would enjoy that car. I like to drive. Fast and with curves. A 3100-pound car with 400 horsepower and drum brakes can't be driven fast unless you don't mind crashing and possibly dying when your brakes fade after 4 hard uses. That IS how it is to drive a stock 69 Charger. Get it over 120 and that front end will REALLY start to float. There is a reason Dodge/Plymouth built those long-nose cars for speedways.
EVs do still have a long ways to go, but the hour-long charges and range anxiety are no longer issues to my mind. I'm actually more concerned with the environmental damage from battery sourcing and manufacturing. This is why I won't buy a new EV until my current ICE car (328xi) is worn out.

SportsRoof is wicked practical but the coup is the best looking in my opinion.

Ever drive one in rain or snow? Zero traction. Nose heavy, corners like an old truck. Only thing “sporty” about mine was the looks!

Why can't we have cars like this again? It's what a lot of people miss & want. Simple, stylish, functional, affordable, and economical to maintain. Today's cars are so laden with hi-tech, computers, sensors, and other expensive stuff that make them an expensive nightmare & crapshoot to even diagnose when something's wrong. Granted, today's cars are safer and higher quality...but a nice, simple car like the 65 Mustang, with some of today's modern & reliable tech, would be welcome.

Maybe a Pertronix electronic distributor to eliminate breaker points, maybe a 5 speed to replace 3 or 4 speed, but not much more than that.

@@MisterMikeTexas Yeah...I would go with an electronic & distributor-less ignition system, since that's simple, reliable, proven itself for 50 years, and cuts maintenance down to changing plugs every few years. Modern disk brakes, too. Overall, just the simple & more modern stuff we've had for decades that make cars better & safer.

This is just the full line of Mustang, not the entire 65 ford line as it is stated in the heading, the head line should be changed

Thanks Doug - if you take a look at the synopsis it says that this is an extract from The Full Line film. Take a look at other extracts on this channel for the other 65 models.
