I had your period on December 3rd and it lasted until December 7th. Then, i had another period on December 30th, which lasted until January 9th. It's now February, and i haven't gotten my period yet. You can imagine how frustrating that can be 😢I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative.
Greetings and peace Dr. Sylvia. I took a Plan B and I am now 28 days late. I have not had my period for 2 months now. I just had a baby 4 months ago, then a month later in October I had my regular cycle. Then in November, I was supposed to get my period at the end of the month according to my period tracking app, which has been pretty accurate. I have been using it for years . I took a Plan B in November, period never came. It’s now December 27th, a day before my 40th birthday, and still no period, and since I missed my period I took a pregnancy test. It came back negative. Today, December 27th 2024, I took a pregnancy just a few minutes ago, and it still came back negative. My husband eluded to the possibility of me being pregnant-menopausal. I guess, if another month goes by, then I will go to the doctor.
Thanks for sharing all the details! Plan B can throw off your cycle, especially if your body is still adjusting after having a baby. The negative pregnancy tests are reassuring, and you haven't mentioned age or other symptoms suggesting menopause. Hormonal shifts after birth and the high-dose hormones in Plan B could be causing the delay. If your period doesn’t show up in the next month, definitely check in with your doctor to rule out anything else.
I had unprotected the last day of my period (minor spotting ) and used a plan B. 5 days later I was spotting brownish blood, very lite for 5 days, which I assumed was a side effect. I was due for my next cycle 21 days later and my cycles are very regular. I am now 9 days late for my regular cycle date and haven't had my version of a regular cycle in over 30 days. So I'm confused and I went to the doctors they checked my ovaries and insides and said everything was fine and no pregnancy.
Hi @EmilyYoda this does sound like a pill effect if the PT is negative and no symptoms/signs of pregnancy. It can be so frustrating, I know. But we cant tell how long the period may be delayed for, so please keep an eye on the cycle, see your Dr if any new symptoms develop. Your cycle should return before too long.
I had the same bleeding 5 days after taking the plan b. I waited until I was late for my period and have now taken 15 at home pregancy tests. All negative was that light brown bleeding maybe a period?

Hi Jessica First I agree with you - pill effects can be very confusing!! It’s likely your period delay is a combination of taking that emergency pill - and- discontinuing your regular birth control. Ordinarily after you stop regular birth control, it takes some time for your own natural hormones to start affecting ur womb/ovaries again. Remember they’ve been ‘asleep’ while you were on regular birth control. Now the regular pills are gone, your hormones will gradually start their effects and your periods should resume - this can be after a couple of weeks or more. In this case, as you also took the emergency pill, this can also add an effect like delaying the periods a little. The light spotting can also be an effect of the emergency pill Don’t worry - these are all temporary effects and your period should get back in rhythm - unless you take any more pills. * a pregnancy test is always advised after a delay of more than 7 days to seeing your period when you’ve taken the emergency pill. Your test results sound reassuring, but you can check in with your doctor again after another 4 weeks if you still have no period or earlier if you develop any new symptoms. Hi! Postinor-2 can sometimes disrupt your cycle for a while. If pregnancy tests are negative but your period hasn’t returned, it’s best to see your doctor to rule out any other causes and ease your worries.

Hi, its good to take it as soon as possible, so earlier is better. It can delay your period for some time - a pregnancy test done 2-3 weeks after sex should guide you. Period delay can sometimes vary from 1 week or more past the due date.

Hi Alondra, if you took the pill before ovulation then it has the best chance to work. Without knowing when you had your last period or ovulation, I can’t tell. However it’s possible the bleeding you had initially is the pill effect - but the pill can also bring your period forward; which may be why you’ve not yet bled again. Keep calm, repeat your test in another week, see your doctor if the period is still delayed and you think you have pregnancy symptoms. Thanks

I took plan b like 3 days after my period bled again after 5 days it was plan b bleeding then just now got my period from that initial first period. 21 days late. Take pregnancy tests 3 weeks after you took plan b. If it comes out negative wait one more week take another one. If that comes negative you’re good. It’s just a waiting game. I saw like 20 to 38 days delay from your last period (not the plan b bleeding) hang in there!!!

Hi, there's really no way to tell whats happening without tests especially since you've been feeling unwell with nausea/dizziness etc. Please see your Dr to arrange further tests to clarify.

Hi the pill could make the next couple of cycles a lady has after taking them irregular. Of course there are other reasons a period pattern may change - this depends on their medical background. Wow so much info I'm so excited to have found your channel! My partner and I used plan b in the middle of her period (day 8-10ish). Her calculator says her peak ovulation day was ~6 days later. Then she said she got her period 4 days later (2 days before peak ovulation). Does her cycle now start over (as in ovulation will no longer take place this cycle)? Or did it push back ovulation 5ish days (enough time for the hormones to leave the body and resume the original cycle?

Before i had sex i just came off of my period and then had sex I took a plan b on the 20 of nov and the next week i had saw blood for 6 days with clotting and cramping. It’s possibly the bleeding you had soon after taking the pill was a side effect - usually that’s light spotting but can sometimes be a little heavy. I would have expected you to have a period in December but perhaps since you already had two separate bleeds in November (the second was heavy); that may be why you had none in December. We are still looking at the effects of Covid 19 / Covid vaccines on women’s menstrual cycle. Since your pregnancy tests are negative, please give it another 2-3 weeks to see if your period arrives and if not, have a chat with your doctor to look into things further. Best wishes

Hello Cecilia The bleeding you saw last month may have been a period - but it could also have been a side effect of the pill. Depending on when you took the pill (early or late in your cycle, the period can be delayed as a normal effect of the pill). The advice is to do a pregnancy test if the period is late by 7 days; so please don't assume until then that this is a pill side effect only. Hi can you please help me. On the 25 Feb it was day 1 of my cycle. Then had unprotected sex on day5 and took a morning after pill. I did not have any side effects immediately after taking the pill. After taking the pill i had unprotected sex again for 3 days and did not take any morning after pill. But in between the month maybe after 8 days taking the pill i experienced cramping and light bleeding but only lasted 5/6 hours. Then took the pregnancy test ,results were negative. Hi Marilyn, as explained in the video, the pill can delay your period, make it come early or have no effect on the period. You can repeat the test after a week, or contact your doctor if you develop any sign of illness.

I don't know when last you saw your period so I can't give more specific information about why the period may be late, but one of the effects of the regular, combined pill is to make the periods lighter and more regular in most women. If you have only been taking it for a few months, it could be that your body is still getting used to the hormones and usually after 3 months your menstrual pattern becomes regular. *If you have missed the pill in the last few weeks please do a pregnancy test.* In respect if cervical cancer, here are the facts: 1. The combined pill (example Levofem) does not *cause* cervical cancer 2. However, there is a small risk of getting cervical cancer if a woman uses the combined pill regularly for *more than 5 years* 3. That risk stops or disappears when the woman stops taking the pill. So that by 10 years after a lady has stopped the pill, she is at the same risk of getting cervical cancer as a woman who never used the pill. I hope this helps but please recall that other factors are strongly linked to having cervical cancer like HPV infection, having many sexual partners, smoking and others - read my post here for more around this - askawayhealth.org/cervical-cancer-awareness-what-you-should-know/. Hi doc please answer asap I had an intercourse on the second day of my period. (December 1)Since emergency pills are not available i took several doses of birth control pills at once with 12hour interval. The birthcontrol had levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol in it. I took the first set of pills within 24hours. I calculated the doses i took and i had about 1.5mg of levonogestrel. On december 3 my period stopped. But it came back on december 8 until december 12. On my app tracker, it says my ovulation should be in december 10th. And my fertile window should start on december 5th. But i took the pill on december 2. (But still in 24hours after intercourse) My cycle is usually around 24-26 days. It is also my first time ever on pills Do you think i conceived? Do you think my period will come early or later than usual? Should i be worried?

Hello Rein, I can’t be specific so I would advise you speak to your doctor. With PCOS, you may have irregular periods and this may explain your situation - * but I cannot say so for certain. In order to continue the contraceptive protection, we advise ladies to continue taking the pill after their break except for any serious reason whether they had a period or not. However if they have missed some pills or could be pregnant this may also explain why the period is delayed and why to speak to their doctor to advise specifically. Thanks
@@reinrya2663 You can start the pill any time you wish but use a condom for 7 days because it will not resume working immediately. Also, remember if you skip the pill for more than 1 day and have sex, you can fall pregnant - then you need the emergency pill.

Hi,I got my period on 23 November(on time). I had sex on 12 Dec (20 day of cycle) and I took the plan B pill within 24hrs. After that I got my period on the usual time on 23 December( on time) for 5 days. Now, On 19 January( 28 day of next cycle) i got a little blood during pee and had cramps as normal but that was for 1 day a little blood. And now its been 1 Feb,I haven't got any period. Hi, if your pregnancy test is negative, it could be an effect of the pill. So I suggest, doing the test in the first instance if you've not yet done so.

Your period May be late because of the pill you took. If you haven’t missed a period or had sex before the 8th, try not to panic. We can’t say when the period is going to arrive but you can do a pregnancy test by 2-3 weeks time to check if your period still hasn’t shown up. Thanks

Greetings and peace Dr. Sylvia. I took a Plan B and I am now 28 days late. I have not had my period for 2 months now. I just had a baby 4 months ago, then a month later in October I had my regular cycle. Then in November, I was supposed to get my period at the end of the month according to my period tracking app, which has been pretty accurate. I have been using it for years . I took a Plan B in November, period never came. It’s now December 27th, a day before my 40th birthday, and still no period, and since I missed my period I took a pregnancy test. It came back negative. Today, December 27th 2024, I took a pregnancy just a few minutes ago, and it still came back negative. My husband eluded to the possibility of me being pregnant-menopausal. I guess, if another month goes by, then I will go to the doctor.

I had unprotected the last day of my period (minor spotting ) and used a plan B. 5 days later I was spotting brownish blood, very lite for 5 days, which I assumed was a side effect. I was due for my next cycle 21 days later and my cycles are very regular. I am now 9 days late for my regular cycle date and haven't had my version of a regular cycle in over 30 days. So I'm confused and I went to the doctors they checked my ovaries and insides and said everything was fine and no pregnancy.
Hi @EmilyYoda this does sound like a pill effect if the PT is negative and no symptoms/signs of pregnancy.
It can be so frustrating, I know.
But we cant tell how long the period may be delayed for, so please keep an eye on the cycle, see your Dr if any new symptoms develop. Your cycle should return before too long.

my experience so far that’s confusing.. i’m about two weeks late for my period. i took a Plan B the day after my last period on a saturday on my placebo week on birth control. resumed my pill on sunday. i was supposed to get my period during my “period week” and i never got it. after my period i got off birth control which my doctor and i both agreed on and i still haven’t had a period. i had cramps and spotting for two days and don’t know if that was my period or not

First I agree with you - pill effects can be very confusing!!
It’s likely your period delay is a combination of taking that emergency pill - and- discontinuing your regular birth control.
Ordinarily after you stop regular birth control, it takes some time for your own natural hormones to start affecting ur womb/ovaries again.
Remember they’ve been ‘asleep’ while you were on regular birth control.
Now the regular pills are gone, your hormones will gradually start their effects and your periods should resume - this can be after a couple of weeks or more.
In this case, as you also took the emergency pill, this can also add an effect like delaying the periods a little.
The light spotting can also be an effect of the emergency pill
Don’t worry - these are all temporary effects and your period should get back in rhythm - unless you take any more pills.
* a pregnancy test is always advised after a delay of more than 7 days to seeing your period when you’ve taken the emergency pill.

Your test results sound reassuring, but you can check in with your doctor again after another 4 weeks if you still have no period or earlier if you develop any new symptoms. Hi! Postinor-2 can sometimes disrupt your cycle for a while. If pregnancy tests are negative but your period hasn’t returned, it’s best to see your doctor to rule out any other causes and ease your worries.

Hi, its good to take it as soon as possible, so earlier is better.
It can delay your period for some time - a pregnancy test done 2-3 weeks after sex should guide you. Period delay can sometimes vary from 1 week or more past the due date.

Hi Alondra, if you took the pill before ovulation then it has the best chance to work.
Without knowing when you had your last period or ovulation, I can’t tell.
However it’s possible the bleeding you had initially is the pill effect - but the pill can also bring your period forward; which may be why you’ve not yet bled again.
Keep calm, repeat your test in another week, see your doctor if the period is still delayed and you think you have pregnancy symptoms.

I took plan b like 3 days after my period bled again after 5 days it was plan b bleeding then just now got my period from that initial first period. 21 days late. Take pregnancy tests 3 weeks after you took plan b. If it comes out negative wait one more week take another one. If that comes negative you’re good. It’s just a waiting game. I saw like 20 to 38 days delay from your last period (not the plan b bleeding) hang in there!!!

Hello doc, i took the plan b pill 4 weeks ago on the 28th of September. I spotted the week after for 5 days and now its the 25th of october but my period is still not here. Been testing and all i get are negatives but i started feeling twinges in my right lower pelvic area last night along with dizzyness, fatigue and nausea. So i tested and still negative. Could this be my period coming, the pill or ovulation? My period is supposed to be here by the end of this month but these symptoms are beginning to worry me despite the negative results
Hi, there's really no way to tell whats happening without tests especially since you've been feeling unwell with nausea/dizziness etc.

Hi the pill could make the next couple of cycles a lady has after taking them irregular.
Of course there are other reasons a period pattern may change - this depends on their medical background.
She can keep an eye on her pattern and contact her doctor if she has other symptoms.

Hi Tate 👋🏽, the urine tests are pretty sensitive and should still pick up enough hormone to show if positive or not.

Wow so much info I'm so excited to have found your channel! My partner and I used plan b in the middle of her period (day 8-10ish). Her calculator says her peak ovulation day was ~6 days later. Then she said she got her period 4 days later (2 days before peak ovulation). Does her cycle now start over (as in ovulation will no longer take place this cycle)? Or did it push back ovulation 5ish days (enough time for the hormones to leave the body and resume the original cycle?

@@frankielee5260 I did I miss that month of June, but it came on the 3rd of July and it was my normal cycle days cause I made sure I didn't do anything for safe measures.

So I took an emergency contraceptive after my period was finished and then my period came and ended however I took another one exactly 1 week after that and then my period didn't come until 19days after it was due. I took a test and it came back negative. It's now 3 months after and my period is on track but I am having cramps and my belly is all of a sudden bloated. Is it possible that I am pregnant?
Hi Kay, if you've not had any sex in the 3 months since the last test, and you are having regular menstrual bleeds, it seems pregnancy is unlikely but you can request a blood pregnancy test to be sure. Best Wishes.

Before i had sex i just came off of my period and then had sex I took a plan b on the 20 of nov and the next week i had saw blood for 6 days with clotting and cramping. After i took the vaccine on the 3rd of dec and my period didn't come and i took the second shot also on 30 of dec and its now January haven't had any sexual intercourse since then and i took multiple test they all came out negative and still no sign of my period also i will get get cramp in my breast but nothing else. I saw blood two times for the month. Wondering if its was my period also.

It’s possibly the bleeding you had soon after taking the pill was a side effect - usually that’s light spotting but can sometimes be a little heavy.
I would have expected you to have a period in December but perhaps since you already had two separate bleeds in November (the second was heavy); that may be why you had none in December.
We are still looking at the effects of Covid 19 / Covid vaccines on women’s menstrual cycle.
Since your pregnancy tests are negative, please give it another 2-3 weeks to see if your period arrives and if not, have a chat with your doctor to look into things further.

Hi, I took three plan b pills in one month. My period comes late in the month and that month it didn’t come I’m assuming it’s because of those pills. So my period didn’t come last month and all the pregnancy tests say negative. I have no symptoms I’m just praying my cycle goes back to normal this month.

The bleeding you saw last month may have been a period - but it could also have been a side effect of the pill.
Depending on when you took the pill (early or late in your cycle, the period can be delayed as a normal effect of the pill).
The advice is to do a pregnancy test if the period is late by 7 days; so please don't assume until then that this is a pill side effect only.

Hi can you please help me. On the 25 Feb it was day 1 of my cycle. Then had unprotected sex on day5 and took a morning after pill. I did not have any side effects immediately after taking the pill. After taking the pill i had unprotected sex again for 3 days and did not take any morning after pill. But in between the month maybe after 8 days taking the pill i experienced cramping and light bleeding but only lasted 5/6 hours. Then took the pregnancy test ,results were negative. As time goes , one day after eating dinner maybe 1 hour later i was vomiting and it only happened that day. I took a pregnancy test again but still came negative. Currently i have foods that smell bad for me and what i noticed i don't like viniger but lately i find it tastey n enjoy it. I am 7 days late and currently it 41 days after my last period. I am worried if i am pregnant or not after getting those negative results. What is confusing is that i took morning after pills last year but did not get sick n periods were only 5 days late. Im wondering what is happening this time.

Hi Marilyn, as explained in the video, the pill can delay your period, make it come early or have no effect on the period.
You can repeat the test after a week, or contact your doctor if you develop any sign of illness.
Im 2 months delay but i took pills regularly.

I don't know when last you saw your period so I can't give more specific information about why the period may be late, but one of the effects of the regular, combined pill is to make the periods lighter and more regular in most women.
If you have only been taking it for a few months, it could be that your body is still getting used to the hormones and usually after 3 months your menstrual pattern becomes regular.
*If you have missed the pill in the last few weeks please do a pregnancy test.*
In respect if cervical cancer, here are the facts:
1. The combined pill (example Levofem) does not *cause* cervical cancer
2. However, there is a small risk of getting cervical cancer if a woman uses the combined pill regularly for *more than 5 years*
3. That risk stops or disappears when the woman stops taking the pill. So that by 10 years after a lady has stopped the pill, she is at the same risk of getting cervical cancer as a woman who never used the pill.
I hope this helps but please recall that other factors are strongly linked to having cervical cancer like HPV infection, having many sexual partners, smoking and others - read my post here for more around this - askawayhealth.org/cervical-cancer-awareness-what-you-should-know/.
If you can, make sure you attend your smear tests regularly to monitor your health and reduce any risk of cervical cancer.

I had an intercourse on the second day of my period. (December 1)Since emergency pills are not available i took several doses of birth control pills at once with 12hour interval. The birthcontrol had levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol in it.
I took the first set of pills within 24hours.
I calculated the doses i took and i had about 1.5mg of levonogestrel.
On december 3 my period stopped. But it came back on december 8 until december 12.
On my app tracker, it says my ovulation should be in december 10th. And my fertile window should start on december 5th. But i took the pill on december 2. (But still in 24hours after intercourse)
My cycle is usually around 24-26 days.
It is also my first time ever on pills
Do you think i conceived? Do you think my period will come early or later than usual? Should i be worried?

I can’t be specific so I would advise you speak to your doctor.
With PCOS, you may have irregular periods and this may explain your situation - * but I cannot say so for certain.
In order to continue the contraceptive protection, we advise ladies to continue taking the pill after their break except for any serious reason whether they had a period or not.
However if they have missed some pills or could be pregnant this may also explain why the period is delayed and why to speak to their doctor to advise specifically.

@@reinrya2663 You can start the pill any time you wish but use a condom for 7 days because it will not resume working immediately. Also, remember if you skip the pill for more than 1 day and have sex, you can fall pregnant - then you need the emergency pill.

Hi,I got my period on 23 November(on time). I had sex on 12 Dec (20 day of cycle) and I took the plan B pill within 24hrs. After that I got my period on the usual time on 23 December( on time) for 5 days.
Now, On 19 January( 28 day of next cycle) i got a little blood during pee and had cramps as normal but that was for 1 day a little blood. And now its been 1 Feb,I haven't got any period.
Is it because of the plan B pill that my second period is delayed or can be pregnant? I'm worried.
Hi, if your pregnancy test is negative, it could be an effect of the pill. So I suggest, doing the test in the first instance if you've not yet done so.

Your period May be late because of the pill you took.
If you haven’t missed a period or had sex before the 8th, try not to panic.
We can’t say when the period is going to arrive but you can do a pregnancy test by 2-3 weeks time to check if your period still hasn’t shown up.

I had unprotected sex on the 31st of July which was 5 days after my period and 9 days to my ovulation date according to an app. I took the ECP on the same night and the second pill 12 hours later.
