@@alexaruffin9611 Hello, it's likely you ovulated after taking the pill and since you did not use protection after Dec 24, fell pregnant. That's the problem when not on a regular method - the pill works to delay ovulation but if you have sex again without protection or using another pill later in the cycle you could fall pregnant because that ovulation that was delayed the first time will happen at a later date.
@@AskAwayHealth I know on my period tracker it shows ovulation as Dec 20th whereas some trackers say December 24th but I was always irregular and I don’t think the miscarriage helped. I took the pill same day and then on the 24th had another slip up in which I did not take a pill at all… found out I was pregnant on January 3rd. I’ve always wondered was it due to the pill not working or the slip up afterwards when I took nothing at all.
Last sept.18 i had sexual intercourse with my partner 5 days before my expected period same day i took postinor 2 as ecp and night i take diane 35 now Oct 10 .i dont have my period im normal cycle of 25 could be pregnant?
@MerlynAbendano If its 3 weeks since you took the pill, a pregnancy test should indicate, or if you have early pregnancy symptoms like breast fullness/soreness, nausea and so on.
REALLY important information to know! You are so knowledgeable and explain this very clearly. I have no idea how often it's possible to use an emergency pill - my philosophy has always been to protect yourself in advance....but certainly there are times that doesn't work 100%, right?!
Hi Jessie, thanks for watching and your kind comments. Ideally, the best thing is to use a regular contraceptive so the use of the EC method is only on a rare occasion. Using the EC pills too often can disrupt a woman’s menstrual period. So the EC pill shouldn’t be used on a regular basis at all😊
Thanks as always for sharing such important info for women in your videos, such a great topic that needed to be explained, and it is explained so well!
Hi Henrietta, sorry for the delay in response. It's still better to take the pill than not to to do so on the day of ovulation. It still has a chance to work because you don't really know when on the day ovulation will happen. If your pill gets absorbed into your blood in enough time to act before the egg is released, there is a good chance it will delay the process and work. If it doesn't, there are other ways the pill might still work - 1, it could prevent the sperm meeting with the egg or 2, it could change the womb tissue and prevent the egg from implanting. But these two methods are not as effective as delaying ovulation. So I can't tell you IF it will work, because we don't know the exact time period when the egg release will happen on the day of ovulation. These are some of the issues that could make the pill fail. Your better option is to use a regular pill or the emergency coil which can be used 5 days after sex for protection.
Hi! Thanks for watching and you are welcome😊. Some other forms of contraception could impair the way sperm move like the Copper coil so they prevent the sperm from meeting the eggs. But ovulation delay is the principal method the EC pills work.
Hi, yes you can. Taking Plan B AFTER ovulation makes it less likely to work. So the pill is unlikely to help. However, if you’ve already ovulated 3 days before sex; the egg may have died already by the time your partner’s sperm arrive in the womb. Our eggs survive 24-48 hrs after ovulation. If that’s the case you won’t get pregnant but it’s not because of the pill. Hope this helps.
Hi Cel, thanks for asking. From BEST to WORST, these are the options I will recommend for emergency contraception if you are currently ovulating: 1. Copper Coil (Copper IUD) 2. Ulipristal acetate or Ella One (watch my video here - ua-cam.com/video/fB6g98_TCjE/v-deo.html) 3. Plan B (or Postinor or Post Pill or Take Action) 4. DOING NOTHING (though should never be an option if you want to prevent pregnancy) To answer your question, taking plan B may help *a little* but it's less reliable while you are ovulating or after ovulation. It may have a small effect by making the discharge in the vagina thicker so the sperm cannot meet the egg - but this is not thought to be super effective compared to delaying ovulation. Hope this helps.
Hello 👋🏽 question: Is is necessary to take the morning after pill on my first fertile day? I don’t ovulate until 5 more days. But when I checked my calendar it says today is fertile day 1...
Hey Whitney, great question. Yes, you should take the pill - theoretically you can get pregnant ANY time during your cycle but it’s more likely during the fertile days. It’s not just enough to cover the day(s) of ovulation. You need to consider that after sex, sperm are alive in the womb from 5-7 days which ‘could’ mean there are healthy sperm waiting to meet the egg when you do ovulate. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 😊
@@AskAwayHealth hello ok so I have another question... I took Plan B after having sexual intercourse on my first fertile day of my cycle, then 5 days later I had unprotected sex on my actually ovulation day (twice in a row) and I took another plan B the day after. It is one week after ovulation and for two days I had spotting, brown blood lasting only 2 days and it’s the third day and the spotting stopped. My period wasn’t due for another week. Should I count these two days as a period that is altered by the pill or should I be worried about pregnancy, could this had been implantation bleeding ?🤭
@@mia.primavera hi it was a period although it looked irregular and I believe the reason for that was because of the morning after pill. But I was not pregnant and after about 2 days of dark spotting my flow became regular. ☺️
Hi Tia, at the time your cycle is ending the chance of pregnancy is lower than during your fertile window. Ovulation has already happened and your egg most likely will be shed as menstruation in the new cycle. Taking the pill may delay the next period, but it’s effect will wear off before you ovulate in the new cycle. Thanks
Hello ma’am my wife take postinor-2, 1st tablet after 10 hrs of intercourse and take second tablets 24 hrs after the 1st tablet it will work or not?? Second tablet was taken 24 hrs after 1st tablet please reply me 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Prem, for postinor 2, the second tablet should be taken 12 hours after the first. May I know why it was delayed by 24 hours? This makes it less likely to work. I hope to hear from you. Thanks
Hello Ricky, taking the emergency pill before ovulation is recommended as that's when it's most likely to work. The other consideration is - did you take it as soon as possible after sex? For plan B, the sooner you take it after sex, the more likely it will work - and it's least effective by the third day after sex. Best Wishes.
Hello doctor, I took the plan b an hour after the incident and while my period was late for 2 days( I have irregular period so it was fine) and I was on low chance of getting pregnant days. I started bleeding an hour later after the pill and the next day I got my late period, fast forward it’s been one month and I should have period tomorrow but I’m experiencing for 3days already small small cramping and tender boobs, does that mean that pill worked,I’m not pregnant and just having PMS symptoms, pls help :(
Hi, the best way to tell if it’s worked is with a pregnancy test; you can’t really tell using the presence or absence of symptoms like bleeding or cramps. Thanks
Hi I'm not very clear what hapends with the egg that should get on the fallopian tubes, it will be released few days later or just dasnt get released fir that month at all,
Hello, If a woman is ovulating normally; each month she releases an egg from one ovary. The egg enters the fallopian tube and then is guided into the main body of the womb. The egg generally survives for 24 , sometimes 48 hours at most after release. If there is no sex, then the egg dies and with the rest of the nner womb lining is shed as menstrual blood in the period. Thnanks
Hello, the most important thing is having the pill as soon as possible after Sex AND before you ovulated. Taking the 2nd pill earlier is better than taking it more than 12 hours if you are unable to stick to the recommended routine. Cheers
Hi - yes it is possible to get a small amount of brown discharge as the effect from taking the pill hormone. Common side effect is menstrual cycle irregularity which should not last for a long period. If it’s a heavy discharge or bleeding, pain or other severe symptom, a pregnancy test should be done, too.
So I have been researching a lot, why do some say that the emergency contraceptive pill also stops implantation? So even if there has been fertilisation, it won't take because ot can't implant.
Hi Michelle, the EC pills work in different ways - mainly delaying ovulation. But they can also affect sperm travel (preventing fertilisation); and act on the womb lining (affecting implantation). Some experts feel these last two actions of the pill are to a lesser degree than the first.
I’m extremely scared . My bf and I had unprotected sex the first day of my fertile window . He did not ejaculate at all. I took a plan b about 8 hours later . My tracker says I don’t ovulate until the 16th . We had sex on the 12th. I’m really concerned and scared . I didn’t know I was fertile . The same day I took the plan b I have cramps and a headache. I really hope it worked . I’m freaking out 😞
Hi there - I'm sorry you feel scared. Keeping track of your ovulation is good. If you took plan B after sex as on the pill instructions - and - before ovulation, then it's a good chance that it's worked. Keep an eye on on the next period; and do a pregnancy test if it's light or later. Have you thought of which regular method of contraception you wish to use going forward?
May I know does this pill help if intercourse happen during ovulation, even if taking the ESCAPELLE pills 40 hours after sex? What are the chances, thank you
Hello, The pills best chance to work is when taken as soon as possible after Sex - and before ovulation has happened. After ovulation, there are other less effective ways it may work so the risk of pregnancy is higher but much better than doing nothing. Thanks
I have a question. My last period was on September 9th. Sexual activity happened on 25th of September, and I took the Morning After Pill on 26th. Next sexual activity happened on the 30th. And everyday after that without protection. I took a PT on 8th October, and it was positive. I went to the doctor on 13th October, and they could see that I was 2 weeks pregnant on scan. The question is: When did I get pregnant, and who is the father. The first one or the last?

Hi, I’m 19 years old. I suspected unprotected intercourse on 21st June and took the i-pill within 24 hours of it. On 23rd June the condom split on us and I immediately took the another pill again. I last had my last period from 25 May to 29 May, with the fertile window being June6-June11 i guess. Please guide me as how am I to proceed with the current situation. I am scared and do not want to get pregnant. It would be a great help. Thank you.
Hi, having intercourse outside the FW, pregnancy risk is lower. Taking the pill correctly helps too. I'd suggest you wait to see what happens and do a test if the period is delayed over 7 days. Cheers
Hi doc If I had sex during fertile windows and immediately after sex then I took the contraceptive pills is it possible for me to get pregnant and that happens two days before ovulation
Hi Churchill The first thing I’ll do is confirm she is not pregnant with a reliable pregnancy test. It is not common for the pill to delay the period for this length of time. And if she’s definitely not pregnant then to speak further with her doctor or contact us on info@askawayhealth.org to explore other issues in her medical background that may explain the reason. Thanks.
Hello, I think you are referring to the cycle length, with a regular 28 day cycle, we may be able to estimate ovulation, which helps. The chances of the pill working are less if its taken after ovulation. Thanks
Looks like I have to wait a full month to see if it worked. I took it I took it for days after my last period. So now I’m over here stressing for the next month.
Hi there! I totally understand. To be honest, there's no way of telling but to wait. But if you took the pill as directed and at the right time, then it's more likely to work! Another thought is - are you considering regular birth control? That takes away the worry each time you use the emergency pill. All the best👍
@@AskAwayHealth I’m already on regular birth control I took it as an extra precaution 14 hours after it happened and it should be before I ovulated considering I just got off my period. Hopefully all of that is working in my favor!
Hey doc. Really informative video, thanks. My question is, if this pill is taken right after protected intercourse, while ovulating, does it fail or work? Can these be taken while ovulating or will it not work? Please answer
Hi, the best thing is that you used protection - I presume that means a condom? That helps reduce pregnancy risk. Taking the pill on ovulation day is a bit tricky as you don’t know *when* a woman ovulates - and these are estimates for ovulation day anyway. So they might work if taken before ovulation happens but there’s no way to tell. Taking the pill on ovulation day carries that risk. That’s why I think using protection as an extra cover should help in your case. Best wishes and thanks for watching.
Hi! Using emergency contraception like Lydia postpill frequently (monthly) is not recommended as it can cause hormonal imbalances and irregular cycles. It’s designed for occasional use. If you need regular contraception, please speak to your doctor about more sustainable options
Hello Shadow Bear, thanks for watching. A few days before your period is around the time most women have the lowest risk of falling pregnancy but you are still advised to take the pill after unprotected sex so that even if you have a short period and ovulate early, the risk of pregnancy is still reduced. So taking the pill can still help even if you are in the non fertile window. Please consider watching this video next - ua-cam.com/video/3CvBdgzX_KE/v-deo.html Best Wishes
I have a question. Why does Plan B not thin the uterine lining? Doesn’t regular levonorgestrel birth control (the pill) keep the uterine lining thin as well as preventing ovulation?
Hi - according to studies, the effect of Plan B in thinning the womb lining as a synthetic progesterone is not significant; pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22018122/ is one example. In this small study, some women taking the ec pill after ovulation or on the day of ovulation fell pregnant. In the group who used it before ovulation, none fell pregnant. Any effect on the womb lining it may have, is therefore not considered significant/ reliable. Thanks
Hello Ari, Sure, slowing down the movement of sperm is one of the secondary ways plan B may be able to work. It may also be able to prevent the fertilised egg planting in the womb - another secondary method. Delaying ovulation, however, is the principal method it works. Thanks for watching.
I have a question " i had and encounter with precum a very brief encounter the next day i took levernongestrel and this Morning i woke to blood on my underwear but then the flow was minimal Does it mean i am pregnant "?
hi , i had to take the pill one day after my period was over , which is 2 days before my fertile window & 6 days before ovulation . i should be okay right ? i had sex around 2 am & took the pill around 9:45 am
Hello Tanika, yes that sounds right. The pill should work as expected - just keep an eye out for your next period and do a test if it seems lighter than usual or delayed by more than 7 days. Best wishes
Hello! I took a plan b pill the following day after unprotected sex (during my fertile window) and have been experiencing cramps. It been 4 days since I took the pill. Does it mean the pill is working?
Hi Iris, thanks for your question. If you took the pill before ovulation, then it’s most likely working whether or not you were getting any cramps. Some women do have cramps after the pill while others don’t. If you do have any concerns, please do a pregnancy test about 2-3 weeks after unprotected sex. Best wishes.
I took it and spotting for 2 days with light bleed a week before my period but it wasn’t a normal bleed . Normal Period was supposed to come 5 days ago . Test ?
Hello Nani, It's quite reasonable to start to think of doing a PT - usually we recommend you do one after taking the emergency pill if the period is delayed by 7 days. Go ahead and take one if its 3 weeks since unprotected sex, but even if it's negative you may have to repeat it in another 5-7 days. Regards.
I took plan b on day 9 of my cycle but I started to bleed a week after taking plan b, it lasted for 4 days and it was quite heavy but I wasn’t supposed to start my period 3 weeks later . What could this mean ? And my cycle usually last 30-34 days
Hi Judy, Thanks for writing in. Given that your ovulation is roughly about day 15-18, you took the pill in good enough time to work. The bleeding you have is likely a side effect from the pill - it can bring your period forward, delay it or cause a short period of bleeding that is not pregnancy related. You may have a bleed around your next period, a bit early or later. Please do a Pregnancy test if it’s delayed longer than 1 week. Cheers
Hi, the risk of pregnancy is higher when you take the pill after ovulation because the main way it works is to delay ovulation. To a little extent it might work by making it hard for the sperm to travel in your body to the egg. It might even make it hard for the fertilised egg to plant in your womb. But these two methods which do not rely on ovulation are thought to be less effective. Please do a PT if your next period is more than 7 days late Thanks for watching.
@@AskAwayHealth okay thank you another question should I say away from alcohol until I get my results? And what is the percentage of me being pregnant?
@@AskAwayHealth Hi soo 8 days Before my period I experienced mild cramping n I started bleeding light then it got heavy for 5 days and soon after I experienced itching n sore nipple on the right breast... was it my period or something else??
Hi Guadalupe, yes if you take it as soon as possible after sex then you should be protected. You are unlikely to have ovulated about then. The less safe days are from after your period and up towards ovulation for most women, but better to keep safe at any time. Cheers

Thank you for this! 🤍 Question: Sexual activity happened during the 5th day of her period (March 14 3pm, last day, drops of bleeding), She took Plan B after 35 hrs (March 15 11pm) since intercourse. Is there a chance that she ovulated right after her period? When is it valid to check for pregnancy test?
Hi, thanks for watching. Usually, ovulation doesn’t happen just after a period - there are a few days of hormone action till another egg is released. Generally if she has a regular period, the first day of the period is day 1; while ovulation *could* happen day 14. All approximation. Your lady took Plan B in good time and before ovulation so I think it’s most likely worked. Best time to do the PT is about 3 weeks after Sex - some very sensitive tests could be positive from 2 weeks but by week 3 all should give you an indication. Hope that clarifies - and thanks for watching.

If you’ve definitely ovulated by that time, the chance of the pill working is a bit lower. Other mechanisms may work but it’s always more effective taken before you ovulate.
I would like to ask question and I hope I’ll get an answer 🙏🏼 We had sex during my menstruation (4th day) then I took EllaOne. It said it should be taken within 72 hrs., but I took it 4 days after the said sexual intercourse. Then something happens again to us 1 day after I took EllaOne. What will be the chance that I get pregnant? Now I’m paranoid whether I’m going to be pregnant or not.
Hi MisakiMei, I really can't say whether you will be pregnant or not. With EllaOne (Ulipristal), you do have up to 5 days for protection as long as you take it before ovulation. It looks like this is what you did, so I think there's a good chance the pill should work. I don't know what you mean by 'something happen again 1 day after you took Ella One'. Here's a link to my EllaOne video which tells you more about how it works - ua-cam.com/video/fB6g98_TCjE/v-deo.html . Its a small chance that it will work since its most effective taken before ovulation. Still, better than nothing - please ask her to do a PT 3 weeks after sex. Thanks
Hi Nyjah, there’s a chance you took your pill before the moment of ovulation, and it might work. Other mechanisms like reducing how well the sperm travel could also help the pill work to prevent pregnancy. But there’s a chance it doesn’t and so the best thing is to keep track of your next period and if it’s too light or heavy then do a PT. watch this video for more ua-cam.com/video/MD8PDPI7Qac/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.

I think it implantation bleeding.. Should I take a pregnancy test?
Hello Wykeshia, having implantation bleeding so soon after ovulation on Thursday seems very unlikely. Taking the pill as soon as possible after Sex is ALWAYS a good thing. The earliest your test will show is after 3 weeks from taking the pill. So the bleeding may be an effect of the pill. If you’ve ovulated already, it won’t work. Since we can’t tell, it’s best to do a pregnancy test at least 2-3 wks later - especially if your period is late. Cheers

Taken before ovulation, and within 72 hours of sex, the pill should provide protection. Always do a pregnancy test if your period is delayed - no EC pill gives you 100% guarantees.
Hello, there are 2 main categories: 1. Ulipristal, and 2. the Progesterone (Levonorgestrel) containing pills. 1. Ulipristal is also marketed as Ella. 2. The progesterone pills' brand names differ according to geographic location. For example Levonelle is popular in UK, Take Action, Plan B, I pill are popular in the US, India Postinor and Postinor 2 in West African countries like Nigeria. There are several other brand names, but to guide, check the information leaflet, speak to a pharmacist, or use our email information service for more guidance (link - askawayhealth.org/askawayhealth-email-service-2/)

My ovulation day was approximately on December 14, and my boyfriend and I had sex on December 21 and I took Plan B about 45 minutes after. My period is supposed to start on December 28. Can the pill still be taking effect with this information?
My boyfriend came in me but I already ovulated around the 16 and I start my period in 2 weeks will the plan b pill work? It says that the pill won’t work if I already ovulated but I ovulated about a week ago and my fertile window is now closed.
Hi, Jes, yes the pill is less likely to work after ovulation - but- there is another possible (small) effect of the pill - changing the womb lining so even if the egg is fertilised it will not implant in the womb. But anyway, after your fertile window is closed you are less likely to get pregnant. So the chance of pregnancy is quite low, but please keep an eye on your period and do a pregnancy test if it’s more than 7 days late. Hope this helps.
@@AskAwayHealth I am 16 I’m really scared, I took the pill and I have an app that keeps track and it says I ovulated the 14, today is the 20th and it says I’m not likely to get pregnant. I really hope the pill wokrs
Hi Jes, you’re less likely to get pregnant if you had sex more than 2/3 days after ovulation. But there’s always a small chance. Taking the pill hopefully reduces the chance a little. It will not work to delay ovulation as that’s already happened, but it may still help.
Hi Anyari, thanks for asking. There’s a small possibility of getting pregnant during the period but unlikely in most cases. But it’s always important to protect yourself if you are not ready for a baby. Now, if you took Lydia post pill (emergency pill) as soon as possible after Sex, then it’s most likely to work. The time just after your period is also outside your fertile window so I’m pretty optimistic it’s worked. (Always check a Pregnancy test if your next period is delayed more than 7 days as the pill is not 100% guaranteed.) Best Wishes

Hello I have a question I had unprotected sex on 8 day of my cycle just one day after my period finished I took plan b after 10 hours ( my cycle is 28 to 29 ) if the pill will work? I spot after 5 days taking the pills less long time 3 to 4 days was not little brown discharge with a little blood after 4 days I had for 2 more days a little brown spot if this is normal if the pill works?
Hello Sounak, the instructions for the Ipill are that's it's taken after every time you have sex. We don't advise using this more than once per cycle as it is ’emergency’ pill. You should get a regular form of birth control so you don't have to use it all the time. Thanks for your interest.
After the egg dissolves and our period ends is it safe to take it the plan b then without any risk of getting pregnant since the egg already left the body?
Hey Maddy Thanks for asking. The risk of getting pregnant is a lot lower after the egg dies away, yes. BUT. The reason it’s important to always take the Plan B after unprotected sex is because you don’t know EXACTLY when ovulation might happen in any cycle. You can only estimate - but it could come earlier or later for any woman in a given month. And the egg usually dies after 12-24 hours and your period comes about 14 days later. It’s highly unlikely but there’s a small possibility of getting pregnant during the period - watch this video to learn more - ua-cam.com/video/beJ9WBs345U/v-deo.html Hope this explanation helps.
Hey, thank you for this video. So me and my girlfriend's condom failed and it was one day after her period finished which means 9 days before ovulation, I was very worried and I gave her the pill just an hour or two after the accident, do you think I need to worry much?
Hi Thank you for watching😊. It was the right way to take the pill (soon after unprotected sex); and the pill’s best method is most likely to work as well: to delay ovulation. I think the chances are good that it’s worked, so I hope you both can worry less. Cheers!
Hello Grace, good question. The pill is probably less likely to work at this time being so close to ovulation. Pills like Postinor or post pill work to delay ovulation - it may have already happened by the time you take the pill. Yes, there can be other less-strong actions of the pill like *making it hard for the sperm to reach the egg or *even changing the womb lining to prevent the egg settling in, but these are secondary measures and we do not know how well they work in the pill. Often, the best method to use at this time will be the Copper coil - you can insert it by the 5th day from ovulation and it’s quite likely to prevent the pregnancy happening. [Another pill , Ella (Ulipristal) may also work better than Postinor]. I’m happy to explain these methods - send an email info@askawayhealth.org Cheers
@@AskAwayHealth Doc today is already the fifth day . Hope taking the Ella may be of help. Just that in Cameroon its mostly potinor two that is sold, but will move around other phamarcy to check for Ella. Hope its not too late?
Hi, I understand. Yes, Ella or EllaOne (Ullipristal) is more likely to work than Postinor - but if you could get the Copper Coil (IUD) fitted, that’s the most effective in this situation. Best Wishes.
I took a plan b pills and 6 days later I’m having light bleeding and back pains and dizziness and headaches... is this supposed to happen after I have taken this pill ?
Hi La’Shea, it's not common to have all these symptoms after taking the pill. Yes, they may be a side effect, but I do recommend you do a pregnancy test as these symptoms can suggest a pregnancy. If your test is negative and they continue then please speak with your health provider. Hope you are well soon.

Hi, I took the pill once day after my fertile window. it said my fertile window was predicted Dec 1-6th. my last period started on November 22nd am i going to get pregnant? he fully dropped a load in me
Hey Alecs, this information is based on the pills with levonorgestrel like Take Action, Plan B, Levonelle, Postinor etc. So, the emergency pill works best if you take it straight away after Sex and for most of them, if it’s taken before you ovulate (before your fertile window). After ovulation, they could still work to slow the sperm down making it hard for them to travel in your womb to the egg. It might work and prevent you from getting pregnant. Do a pregnancy test if your next period is light or delayed. And don’t forget to check in with your provider to see a regular method that might suit you and save worry and hassle. All the best!
Hi Isabella, A few days before your period, ovulation has already happened, yes. The best chance of the pill working is in the the days before ovulation. However, if you have unprotected sex a few days before your period, do still use the plan B. Sometimes our estimation of ovulation day may be off by one or two days, or your cycle may be shorter/longer meaning that your egg may still be around when you have sex. To a much lesser extent, the pill may work by preventing fertilisation/implantation - so this is another reason to still take it if that is what you have available. In that sense, I would recommend that you still take it even if you believe ovulation has already happened unless you have access to a more effective method like the Copper coil. The coil will work within 5 days of having sex and after ovulation. Thanks, please watch these and let me know if they also answer your questions ua-cam.com/video/ReB9U4k3Wyk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/_ETMM18KTj8/v-deo.html
I took the plan B pill but we had sex an hour after taking it. One week later, i had my period. And 3 weeks later, im having pregnancy symptoms: nosea and breast tenderness. Is it possible that im pregnant?! According to my last period my next period is due one week from now
Hello Hope, thanks for watching, if you had sex 3 weeks ago, no need to wonder/guess - do a pregnancy test now as it should give a result of whether or not you are pregnant. If it’s negative but you still have the symptoms, repeat the test in 1 week. Best wishes.
What if your menstral cycle has Been regular but due to change of environment you skip a month and have a new date, could I still use the emergency pill the day after my period is done because am unsure?
I took ellaone today (5 days after) so how effective will that be? Also last Monday had intercourse and took the pill 3 hours after then the next 3 days didn’t take a pill then had unprotected sex on the Friday.
Hi Jojo Brown, thanks for watching. If you've not ovulated yet then the Ellaone allows you up to 5 days after sex to give you protection (see more in this video - ua-cam.com/video/fB6g98_TCjE/v-deo.html). The other pill which you took 3 hours after sex also works better taken before ovulation. After ovulation, they can still work but to a less degree. I would advise that taking the EC pill (Ellaone or any other) more than once a month can disrupt your menstrual cycle; making your periods irregular, so perhaps you would consider getting a regular contraceptive method to avoid this. Best wishes.
Hi Jen, thanks for asking. I think pregnancy is unlikely going by the info you’ve shared: 1. ✅ You took the pill after ovulation and so outside your fertile window where the chances of pregnancy are less. (You should know that after ovulation the egg remains alive for 1-2 days but again, your timing for sex seems to be after this could have happened). 2. ✅You took the pill in good enough time after Sex as recommended. 3. The pills mainly work by delaying ovulation like I explained in the video- but you took them After you already ovulated. ✅However they could still work another way - in case the egg did meet a sperm, the pill *may* be able to change the womb lining and prevent the fertilised egg from implanting in the womb. (We’re not sure how much it can do this, but there’s a possibility it could). So these are the reasons I think it’s unlikely you actually fall pregnant this time - please watch this video to know what to expect next with the pill: ua-cam.com/video/snYsEa5y6-g/v-deo.html Given that nothing is 100%,though - do a pregnancy test if your period is later than 1 week, heavier or lighter than usual. Best wishes 😊
My menstrual cycle is 30 days. I had a menstrual period 5 January, I had sex on 13 January and then I mistakenly counted my dangerous days, 14 January I swallowed emergingor pills so I will be able to get my days back on 4th February but so far it is 8th February and I have not menstruated and I do not see any symptoms. Let me know if I have a problem or is it normal?
Thanks - you can take the pill twice in a month if you cannot help it; so far as we know it causes no serious harm. We don’t recommend it though as it can make the periods irregular for the following months.

Can one take contraceptive pills on the day of ovulation and will it work?
Wow. Thanks for breaking this down to me. I thought the pill killed the sperm🤦🏽♀️. I’m grateful for your education.
Hi! Thanks for watching and you are welcome😊. Some other forms of contraception could impair the way sperm move like the Copper coil so they prevent the sperm from meeting the eggs. But ovulation delay is the principal method the EC pills work.

Can you still get pregnant if u ovulated 3 days before unprotected sex and taking the plan B right away
Please what if you took it a day after your period. Can you still be pregggg
Hi how are you I have a question on postinor2 if taken immediately after sex can it work effectively?
If one is currently ovulating and you take the plan b pill will if help at to prevent pregnancy at all or will it have no effect?
Hi Cel, thanks for asking.
From BEST to WORST, these are the options I will recommend for emergency contraception if you are currently ovulating:
1. Copper Coil (Copper IUD)
2. Ulipristal acetate or Ella One (watch my video here - ua-cam.com/video/fB6g98_TCjE/v-deo.html)
3. Plan B (or Postinor or Post Pill or Take Action)
4. DOING NOTHING (though should never be an option if you want to prevent pregnancy)
To answer your question, taking plan B may help *a little* but it's less reliable while you are ovulating or after ovulation.

What happens if you take it when your Cycles" Ending?
Hi Tia, at the time your cycle is ending the chance of pregnancy is lower than during your fertile window. Ovulation has already happened and your egg most likely will be shed as menstruation in the new cycle.
Taking the pill may delay the next period, but it’s effect will wear off before you ovulate in the new cycle. Thanks

Question Ok so if im ovulating on the 20th and i took a plan b pill on the 16th do u know if it would work our not
Hello Ricky, taking the emergency pill before ovulation is recommended as that's when it's most likely to work. The other consideration is - did you take it as soon as possible after sex? For plan B, the sooner you take it after sex, the more likely it will work - and it's least effective by the third day after sex. Best Wishes.
I think she took it the second day
Hello doctor, I took the plan b an hour after the incident and while my period was late for 2 days( I have irregular period so it was fine) and I was on low chance of getting pregnant days.
Thnanks
Please I took mine the day I finished my period
After using it
I started bleeding the next day
Please what’s wrong
what will happen if i took the second postinor 2 pill before 12 hours will it work
Hello, the most important thing is having the pill as soon as possible after Sex AND before you ovulated. Taking the 2nd pill earlier is better than taking it more than 12 hours if you are unable to stick to the recommended routine.
Cheers
After taking this pill do you suppose to have brown discharge with your spotting for 3 days ?
What if the pill is taken a day or two before ovulation starts?
Yes, this is when the pill (containing Levonorgestrel) is most likely to work best - taken after unprotected sex in the time Before you ovulate.

The pills best chance to work is when taken as soon as possible after Sex - and before ovulation has happened.
After ovulation, there are other less effective ways it may work so the risk of pregnancy is higher but much better than doing nothing.

And if she’s definitely not pregnant then to speak further with her doctor or contact us on info@askawayhealth.org to explore other issues in her medical background that may explain the reason.
Thanks.
Is the chances of it working very low at the 20-28 day range?
Hello, I think you are referring to the cycle length, with a regular 28 day cycle, we may be able to estimate ovulation, which helps. The chances of the pill working are less if its taken after ovulation. Thanks
Looks like I have to wait a full month to see if it worked. I took it I took it for days after my last period. So now I’m over here stressing for the next month.
Hi there! I totally understand. To be honest, there's no way of telling but to wait. But if you took the pill as directed and at the right time, then it's more likely to work!

Hi what's your result?
Did you get pregnant? Please tell🙏
Does that mean if someone has taken a morning after pill before having the period will eventually delay the period completely?
The MAP only delays ovulation for a short time. Its most effective before you ovulate.
You will ovulate when its effects wear off.
What if someone use Lydia postpill like for months once in each month can it bring infertility and hormonal imbalance

What happens if you take it a few days before your next period? In the non fertile window
Hello Shadow Bear, thanks for watching.
A few days before your period is around the time most women have the lowest risk of falling pregnancy but you are still advised to take the pill after unprotected sex so that even if you have a short period and ovulate early, the risk of pregnancy is still reduced.
Thanks
Doesn’t plan b stop/slow sperm down before reaching the Egg after ovulation
Hello Ari,
Sure, slowing down the movement of sperm is one of the secondary ways plan B may be able to work.
It may also be able to prevent the fertilised egg planting in the womb - another secondary method.
Delaying ovulation, however, is the principal method it works.
Thanks for watching.

Hey , Iris did it work?
I took it and spotting for 2 days with light bleed a week before my period but it wasn’t a normal bleed . Normal Period was supposed to come 5 days ago . Test ?
Hello Nani,
It's quite reasonable to start to think of doing a PT - usually we recommend you do one after taking the emergency pill if the period is delayed by 7 days. Go ahead and take one if its 3 weeks since unprotected sex, but even if it's negative you may have to repeat it in another 5-7 days. Regards.
If a female had her period after unprotected sex and she took the pill right after is there any chance she can be pregnant?
If plan b stops ovulation, why wouldn’t it work during ovulation?
Because you have already ovulated. In other words, the egg has already been released n therefore fertilization can occur.
Absolutely!
Plan B delays ovulation and cannot stop it. So it cannot have this effect when ovulation has already started.
I took plan b on day 9 of my cycle but I started to bleed a week after taking plan b, it lasted for 4 days and it was quite heavy but I wasn’t supposed to start my period 3 weeks later . What could this mean ? And my cycle usually last 30-34 days
Hi Judy,
Thanks for writing in.
Cheers
Hi I took a plan b the one pill levonorgestrel tablets BP 1.5 mg 13 hours after ovulation would I still get pregnant?
Hi, the risk of pregnancy is higher when you take the pill after ovulation because the main way it works is to delay ovulation.
To a little extent it might work by making it hard for the sperm to travel in your body to the egg.
It might even make it hard for the fertilised egg to plant in your womb. But these two methods which do not rely on ovulation are thought to be less effective.
Please do a PT if your next period is more than 7 days late
Thanks for watching.

I took plan b the day of ovulation. Is it effective?
Hy doctor, i had postinor on 10th day of my cycle, is it possible for me to be pregnant because i feel like symptoms 😮
You can take a pregnancy test as recommended after using the map.
Thank you for this! 🤍
Question: Sexual activity happened during the 5th day of her period (March 14 3pm, last day, drops of bleeding), She took Plan B after 35 hrs (March 15 11pm) since intercourse.

Kindly assist I took postinor twice in one cycle ..7 days apart...what are the long term/short term effects
I took a contraceptive pill on the 14th day after my menstrual flow, does it mean its the wrong time?
If you’ve definitely ovulated by that time, the chance of the pill working is a bit lower. Other mechanisms may work but it’s always more effective taken before you ovulate.
I took the pill 4 days of ovulation. Does the mean that the pill won’t work?
I would like to ask question and I hope I’ll get an answer 🙏🏼
We had sex during my menstruation (4th day) then I took EllaOne.
With EllaOne (Ulipristal), you do have up to
5 days for protection as long as you take it before ovulation. Yes. Just for clarification, we did have unprotected sex again a day after I took the EllaOne.
Unprotected sex happened twice: 4th day of period and a day after taking EllaOne (2 days after period)
Thank you so much for your information. You did explain clearly on how EllaOne works and I also checked the link you provided and it made me understand things clearer than searching in Google. If her ovualtion day is today and I give her the pill after 20 hours. Is there chances that it will work?I worry if by the time the pill start to work the sperm could have reached the eggs and start fertilizing. Is there chances of her getting pregnant?
Its a small chance that it will work since its most effective taken before ovulation. Still, better than nothing - please ask her to do a PT 3 weeks after sex. Thanks

Yes, vomiting 1-2 hours after taking it means you should repeat the dose. Cheers
I used my tracker & found out I had unprotected sex same exact day as ovulation and after but I took the plan b will it still work
Hi Nyjah, there’s a chance you took your pill before the moment of ovulation, and it might work. Other mechanisms like reducing how well the sperm travel could also help the pill work to prevent pregnancy.
But there’s a chance it doesn’t and so the best thing is to keep track of your next period and if it’s too light or heavy then do a PT. watch this video for more ua-cam.com/video/MD8PDPI7Qac/v-deo.html

Hey.. I was ovulate Thursday and the condom broke that Saturday early 6am that morning and I took a plan B the next day around 3pm my period came on the same time it was supposed to come on last Thursday and it still on should I be worried that i'm pregnant..
But if you are worried you may have been pregnant before taking the pill then please go ahead and test.

Hello @plusseed sangwa
What pill did you take? I'm curious to know why you had it three times.
Your best guarantee of the pill working is using it as you did - right after sex and before ovulation. So it should work within the 98% effectiveness for the EC pill. You can learn more about signs the pill will work in this video - ua-cam.com/video/3CvBdgzX_KE/v-deo.html Cheers

What happens when you take postinor 2 on ovulation day
If you’ve ovulated already, it won’t work. Since we can’t tell, it’s best to do a pregnancy test at least 2-3 wks later - especially if your period is late. Cheers
Question I had unprotected intercourse on Saturday 12:30pm and took the pill Monday 9:47 am and my ovulation day was predicted the Wednesday I am I safe and it took postinor 2 ?
Taken before ovulation, and within 72 hours of sex, the pill should provide protection. Always do a pregnancy test if your period is delayed - no EC pill gives you 100% guarantees.
Update
Hi, may I know the name of the emergency pills?
Hello, there are 2 main categories: 1. Ulipristal, and 2. the Progesterone (Levonorgestrel) containing pills.
1. Ulipristal is also marketed as Ella.
2. The progesterone pills' brand names differ according to geographic location.
For example Levonelle is popular in UK,
Take Action, Plan B, I pill are popular in the US, India
Postinor and Postinor 2 in West African countries like Nigeria.
There are several other brand names, but to guide, check the information leaflet, speak to a pharmacist, or use our email information service for more guidance (link - askawayhealth.org/askawayhealth-email-service-2/)
So I do not know if this has happened to anyone before but I took the pills days leading to my periods and they were three days late but I eventually got them..what changed is that I felt ovulation pain and my leg started to tingle is that normal?

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex 3 days to her period and I got her the postpil and it's been 3 days since her period was to be due is this normal?
Hi Cal, yes the pill can delay the period so this may be the pill effect. She needs to watch her cycle for the next few days/weeks - it may also cause unexpected bleeding. Cheers
I used one of these some times Back and didn’t get my period for about a month and half ... that was about six month ago ... but I wasn’t pregnant ... please can you explain why ? 🙏🏾

Okay 🙏🏾
My ovulation day was approximately on December 14, and my boyfriend and I had sex on December 21 and I took Plan B about 45 minutes after. My period is supposed to start on December 28. Can the pill still be taking effect with this information?
Hey, how did it turn out? I’m in a similar situation.
@@AskAwayHealth so the pill is most likely going to work if my fertile window is closed right?
Hi Jes, you’re less likely to get pregnant if you had sex more than 2/3 days after ovulation.
But there’s always a small chance. Taking the pill hopefully reduces the chance a little.
It will not work to delay ovulation as that’s already happened, but it may still help.
@@jeshernandez7502 did it work
Thanks for this topic. Pls I had unprotected sex on the last day of my period and took Lydia on the flowing day,can I be pregnant?
Hi Anyari, thanks for asking. There’s a small possibility of getting pregnant during the period but unlikely in most cases. But it’s always important to protect yourself if you are not ready for a baby.
Now, if you took Lydia post pill (emergency pill) as soon as possible after Sex, then it’s most likely to work.
The time just after your period is also outside your fertile window so I’m pretty optimistic it’s worked.
(Always check a Pregnancy test if your next period is delayed more than 7 days as the pill is not 100% guaranteed.)
Best Wishes

Hello I have a question I had unprotected sex on 8 day of my cycle just one day after my period finished I took plan b after 10 hours ( my cycle is 28 to 29 ) if the pill will work? I spot after 5 days taking the pills less long time 3 to 4 days was not little brown discharge with a little blood after 4 days I had for 2 more days a little brown spot if this is normal if the pill works?
If sexual intercoarse happens twice within 24hrs. is 1 i-pill enough to avoid pregnancy?
Hello Sounak, the instructions for the Ipill are that's it's taken after every time you have sex. We don't advise using this more than once per cycle as it is ’emergency’ pill. You should get a regular form of birth control so you don't have to use it all the time. Thanks for your interest.
After the egg dissolves and our period ends is it safe to take it the plan b then without any risk of getting pregnant since the egg already left the body?
Hey Maddy
Thanks for asking.
It’s highly unlikely but there’s a small possibility of getting pregnant during the period - watch this video to learn more - ua-cam.com/video/beJ9WBs345U/v-deo.html
Hope this explanation helps.

Hi Thank you for watching😊.
It was the right way to take the pill (soon after unprotected sex); and the pill’s best method is most likely to work as well: to delay ovulation.

You should take the pregnancy test, and repeat it after 1 week.
Pls try not to worry so much.
Hello doc . if u have sexual intercourse on the day of your ovulation and take emergency contraceptive pill immediately ,is it lightly to work?
I’m happy to explain these methods - send an email info@askawayhealth.org
Cheers
@@AskAwayHealth Doc today is already the fifth day . Hope taking the Ella may be of help. Just that in Cameroon its mostly potinor two that is sold, but will move around other phamarcy to check for Ella. Hope its not too late?
Hi,
I understand.
Hey Alecs, any update? Did it work?
is plan be still as effective if i take it a few days before my period? or since ovulation already happened it’s still not as effective?
Hi Isabella,
A few days before your period, ovulation has already happened, yes.
Thanks, please watch these and let me know if they also answer your questions

I took the plan B pill but we had sex an hour after taking it. One week later, i had my period. And 3 weeks later, im having pregnancy symptoms: nosea and breast tenderness. Is it possible that im pregnant?! According to my last period my next period is due one week from now
Hello Hope, thanks for watching, if you had sex 3 weeks ago, no need to wonder/guess - do a pregnancy test now as it should give a result of whether or not you are pregnant. If it’s negative but you still have the symptoms, repeat the test in 1 week. Best wishes.
are you pregnant
Hi.. I took my EC (NORVELO) 27 hours after having sex on the 10th of Jan. I already finished ovulating on the 7th of Jan. Could I still fall pregnant.
Hi Jen, thanks for asking.
I think pregnancy is unlikely
going by the info you’ve shared:
So these are the reasons I think it’s unlikely you actually fall pregnant this time - please watch this video to know what to expect next with the pill: ua-cam.com/video/snYsEa5y6-g/v-deo.html
Given that nothing is 100%,though - do a pregnancy test if your period is later than 1 week, heavier or lighter than usual.
Best wishes 😊
