- We review the 2021 Land Rover Discovery and the huge amount of engineering. It is rare for something to have this level of character and capability while also trying to capture an old way of doing things. While there are other products like the Jeep Wrangler, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Prado or 4Runner, the Discovery is definitely unique.

You simply cannot beat the Durability, versatility, and reliability of a Body On Frame Construction. When it comes to Comparing this with a Wrangler, the Defender may be more comfortable On Road, but the Wrangler will easily outlast this ; Simple Non hybrid Engines , manual transmission, and front + rear Live Axles. Anyone that complains about the Wranglers driving characteristics is not the intended audience.
Would you rather be in a defender or a Lexus GX460 ?

Great video, guys! I love the ideas behind this vehicle. Unfortunately, I am not affluent enough, lol, just a peon. It is definitely a vehicle that I will follow, hopefully JLR works out some of the reliability issues over time. This, and a modern FJ Cruiser would be very high on the adventure vehicle list.

Land rovers are great for off-roading as long as you’re within towing distance of a dealer.
That is why most dealers have a course in the parking lot.

What an overcomplicated thing. This is what the Discovery should be: the ultimate convergence of off-road capability and on-road comfort. The defender should be simple and rugged. IMO this bastardized the Defender name.
@@genoesposito2895 The only problem with the enthusiast’s opinion is that we will be a small majority of the customers purchasing this car. Automakers have to ride the fine balance between the picky vocal minority and the give-me-something-comfortable majority.

@@klayvader9746 By making a more expensive higher-end product, they can net higher margins on vehicles sold. Affordable vehicles have thin margins, and buyers in that segment place a greater emphasis on reliability, something that JLR doesn't do well.

The use of a Defender In M. Night's "The Village" was brilliant to make it timeline neutral since it had such a long life.

@@greyestfox being Canadian, it really depends what's being measured. Bottled water, pool size, ejaculation, wine bottles and engine displacement is usually metric, while steak and pool water temperature and height is imperial.
Loved the video! Picked up my 2021 Defender last week, and they fixed the overly sensitive brake by wire system for 2021. It’s now much more linear and easy to modulate. Hope to see an off road review of the Defender down the road. Keep up the good work!
How is the road noise? I test drove one and found it to be very quiet but this review says it has loud road noise...?

Jack hotboxing the Defender is the best thing to happen since that epic Turbowski intro mv.
This is why half baked products keep coming out. JLR designed this to last the lease term, that's it. Look at the total nightmare TFL had with theirs. Three Defenders later, they finally have one that works.
The electronic problems plaguing the UK owners, etc.
The optional fanny pack works on the UK driver's side, as it doesn't create a blind spot. They didn't even make an option to put it on the US driver's side.
Watching this made me appreciate that the Land Cruiser 200 and 4Runner exist. Land Rovers today are basically ads for Toyotas.
Imagine if Toyota stopped sleeping and put some half decent tech and powertrains into the 4R.
The 4Runner is objectively the worst product I have ever driven. It’s friggin awful. This vehicle is actually capable.

I'm in Miami and these things recently exploded in popularity. They are absolutely everywhere. They are all the fancy spec in all white or all black with 22" aftermarket wheels and all terrain tires for some odd reason.
Different flavors of status symbol. Florida tends to be rather conservative so their status symbol car is an overbuilt "utility" car to prove how "Blue collar" they are, where as in places like Los Angeles you'll see way more Teslas to prove how "environmentally conscience" they are.

Just picked up one of these (110, p400) and it's our first buy, in the luxury market. Definitely got the extended warranty. Having been in other luxury cars but not owning them, it seems plenty luxurious to us. Waiting for the engine to get in some miles before I actually see how much power it's got. No one else really explained the point of the mild hybrid so I'm glad you mentioned what it actually does! This will be a mall crawler for the first few years of its life but I will appreciate it in the blizzards at least.

Popular saying is if you want to go anywhere, drive a Land Rover. If you want to come back, drive a Toyota. Another popular saying is "the next vehicle a Land Rover owner drives is a Toyota".
As long as the Land Cruiser Prado exists, there is no competitor to it.
Anybody who is looking to buy a premium brand like Land Rover are not going to be cross shopping it with a cheap and tacky Toyota. 😂
