    This is perfect for my small family. Simple and looks delicious! We had seven in my family growing up so my Mother cooked huge quantities. I remember watching her cook and I know most of her recipes, but they're all for a large family. I have to cut them down but I've mastered most of them. We never had this little cake so I'm excited to give it a try. Thank you!

    Love the memories. I have memories of my momma's cooking. Nothing takes you back like the smells and taste of the past. Momma made a black walnut cake that was the best ever. Wow that cake looks fabulous! I love the old style cake recipes. If you have more please share them. Was there a specific name for this cake at all? Also, we can't just buy bisquick off the shelves here, I'd have to order it online, but it can make my own, and same with the shortening. Can you sub butter instead?

    • @Handsthatcook
      @Handsthatcook  10 років тому

      Hi FitAnge, I don't know how it would turn out using butter. I went directly by the recipe but you can try it and see how it turns out. I'm sure the butter is better for you. The inside of the cake is velvety smooth and moist and the crunch in the topping is just the right touch. I'm not 100% sure but I think this recipe was on the back of the box of Bisquick at one time. It may still be for all I know. The cake on the Bisquick box was called Velvet Crumb Cake. I believe I can find a recipe for making your own Bisquick. If I find it, I'll send you a copy. PM me your email address. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.

      your welcome. I have 2 old cake recipes on my channel already...the plumb cake is one and the other is Archy Hilda's Brown Sugar Cake...they are both excellent. I have more to come.. • @AussieAngeS
      @AussieAngeS 10 років тому

      They do but it's called copha and it stays in the fridge, you can't use it at room temperature as it's hard like a brick and it's transparent in color. Basically the same thing not like the crisco in a can though. Yes I love that brown sugar cake and I'll be making that one for sure. Can't wait to see more old style recipes I'm fascinated in the oldern style cooking and baking. And your welcome for the support :)

    Looks great! When I was in high school I used to make a cake similar to this but in a spring form pan. What was so good is that the juices from the pineapple would seep into the cake when you broiled it.
