- Another Kickstarter request, this time from Rawle Curtis. What a GREAT time I had preparing this video - and transcribing and learning the sax solo. Here I talk about how I went about learning the solo (which is really hard) including a time-lapse of me working it out.
I also talk about the importance of STRETCHING when practicing, because tension during repetitive practice is the enemy of a healthy body. It practically invites tendonitis. So check that out too.
Okay, thanks Rawle! I had a blast!
That bass line💦💦💦💦warms the heart of a fellow bass clarinet player
I play it too and, just 💦💦💦oooh
I'm a bass clarinetist too
I play too that sound boaaa💦
Bass clarinets rise
@@Ab-dk4kq yasss let's do it
Me as a bass clarinet listening to the background like “yup, I’d be playing that while everyone gets the fun melody and I have to play the same notes in the same pattern the entire time 😭
i’ve played this bassline before on bass clarinet, and honestly it is so fun
Unfortunately that’s what we signed up for when we pick the instrument :( It’s worth it for the sound of the instrument tho.
@@jimmieww so true
I’m a Japanese high school student playing bass clarinet. I have never listened to such a cool song played by clarinets! I want to play this song some day.
In japan do they use the Latin alphabet for naming notes
@@lokiofasgard7780 very good question
@@lokiofasgard7780 music notes are used universally, doesn’t matter the country. Music is essentially math and is just as universal. Doesn’t matter the language or country
@@James.D.B. not really if you know music . The reading and notation are always the same no matter the country…..that’s the point , it’s universal
@@lokiofasgard7780 a lot of countries refer to the notes as solfege Do Re Me Fa Sol La Si Do. Where as Americans refer to them as ABCDEFGA
Never fails. Every single time I think I'm getting pretty good at my instruments someone comes and ruins my dreams xD
same
It's not about comparison or competition. It's about your freedom to express how the music moves you and how you communicate with the other players and listeners. Enjoy and love what you do, but reach out and investigate places you have never gone before with the music. It can be a disaster but keep experimenting at the same time work on mastering the basics. That's how you grow and keep from getting stagnant.
Chauncy Washington oh that could not have been more of a great thing to say! Thank you!
Why are your dreams about being better than everyone else? That is very egocentric
@@mrlink1312 You are right. To concentrate so much on something & the EGO takes a back seat....that's when creativity happens. You KNOW. Thanks for sharing that idea. So many players don't get it.
As a brass player I want that shirt to annoy my Bari sax friends
As a Bari Sax player I want that shirt to annoy my brass friends
This is so rad. You're awesome!
funny seeing you here
“Bass clarinets can’t sound cool”
This mad lad right here:
nobody said that
@@elihescott5055 yeah
Literally nobody has ever said that
Wtf is your profile pic
vik1006 oh, it’s out of context mexico on twitter, names pretty self explanatory
Nice jazz touch! Those who think classicists can't swing would be *wrong!*
So sad my clarinet recently got a huge crack in it... It was over 40 years old and wooden... I really want to play it again so I envy mr spasm of ears
Ah, always hate to see instruments break, especially after so long
It must have costed you a lot...
as a saxophonist that's practically obsessed with The Seatbelts I've gone through learning this and thinking of playing it on clarinet is just mind-blowing. Amazingly well done!
+Shane Bentley (Bents) so you also play the clarinet?
+Jorge Daniel Yes I do. I play in theater pit orchestras a lot, so I play all kinds of things.
Shane Bentley you play all kinds of things? like what more? how old are you?
+Jorge Daniel Well, I commonly play the "common four" of the sax family, Soprano, alto, tenor and bari. Soprano Bb clarinet, Bb Bass clarinet but very rarely anything else from the clarinet family. I play flute and piccolo, guitar and bass guitar, piano (though, admittedly I can probably barely count this). But I have basic understandings of many more too, but not enough to, let's say, actually read music on the instrument. and I'm 27, been playing saxophone since I was 12.
Shane Bentley thats amazing
As a fellow bass clarinetist the tone on whoever is playing that is amazing
ya he's one of the best in the world on that instrument :)
I honestly love playing along with this. I have a BBb Leblanc Contrabass Clarinet and it sounds amazing when I play the Bass line. Absolutely love this piece.
Bet it's super groovy on that low octave.
It does
I don't even play clarinet (saxophonist here) but fuck it, I'm subscribing
I. NEED. THAT. SHIRT. CLARINET MASTER RACE.

I want that shirt too. Bass clarinet gang
BARI SAX COMIN THROUGH 'SCUSE ME WATCH YOUR HEADS DONT MIND ME
Ryner in time there shall be a bassoon player or contrabass clarinet rolling its way down here...
This is awseome on many levels. I am just getting back into playing clarinet after 30 years doing just bass guitar and guitar. Wish I could afford a nice wood bass clarinet, as that was my main instrument in school. That being said, I often jam the bass line for Tank out when I pick up my fretless, as Cowboy Bebop is my alltime favorite anime. Well done, sir. I have actually never heard the full version with sax solo, but you killed it on the clarinet.
Wonder what Benny Goodman would think, awesome cover man!
DUDE!, You just gained another subscriber!!
Remains one of my all time favorite things. Thank you for doing this.
Great piece Mike. Love the practice fast-forwards. It is a great thing for me to show my students on how to approach pretty much anything.
I play in a clarinet choir and I would love to get my hands on the arrangement you have done. Peace out.
one of the best series ever
Awesome! I love how you look like you are having a blast playing this piece.
Michael and Rawle! What a combo! Nice work Michael, fun to see your channel and your talent!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
Dude, you absolutely killed it on the solo. Good stuff!
Seriously amazing. I loved the performance, I was about to turn it off, then you showed how you practise and I just learnt so much.
i have said it before and i will say it again you are amazing and even though i am a tenor sax player. you inspire me to be better
You're amazing! Love it
The best thing I have ever witnessed
Denise Lee same
God damn this sounds soooooooooo gooooood. Especially that bass line
YEAHHHH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
Great playing and teaching!!
YEEESSS!!! This is truly an EARSPASM!!!
Congratulations !
That was fucking awesome! I loved that song and the show.
agreed
I recommended Tank as a cover for clarinet on a random creator's post the orher day and was sent here. Holy hell 😂
omfg ily senpai
Excellent!
fantastic
That bass though makes my heart go wild
Wonderful!!
THIS IS SICK AS HELL
Can we please have the sheet music?
Edit: Not because we're too dumb to find it online, because most arrangements on the internet are inaccurate.
Date Strider Use ur ears unless it's u plan on playing with other people

Jared Khan not everyone has the ability to learn by ear, some people are more visual than auditory
Captain kiwi If you want to be a good musician you need to be able to learn by ear. Practice exercising your ability to learn by ear, especially if you’re trying to play genres like jazz. It’s a trait you must develop as a musician.
Captain kiwi everyone can learn by ear, its just that some people start more ahead than others
this is awsome
"Tanks" for the lesson, Michael. (hehe)
Buon natale a tutti!
I might be in love with this channel. It makes me miss playing so much it's not even funny.
WHy not take it up again? D:
SmilingWooperHjalle I can't afford to rent a new clarinet. Mine was stolen.
Alexandria Franklin Who can steal an instrument... I thought it was a rule not to steal musical instrument.
So did I. But if you are desperate enough, I guess, you'll take anything worth something
I know I wouldn't as I know the realtion between someone and his instrument but yes maybe someone who never felt that don't know. It make me sick...
Excelente, con permiso descargo esta maravilla c:
Thumbs up. Happy new year. My kids also liked your performance.
Nice. I liked.
I just started following your channel. I honestly thought you were about to sit us down during the solo part and let us watch you learn the solo by ear. LOL!
I get so annoyed when people say clarinets don't play jazz... Then I show them either this or Benny Goodman.
I play bassoon and i have much respect for clarinets
I know what I’m learning this week
Epic
cool,
man!
This made me learn it on all my instruments lol 👍👍👍🗿
Nice! it would be lovely to hear you play "car 24"
jazz band played this for the musical for all festival in indianopolis :D
First Comment!
Good stuff man... Really amazing! Keep it up!
This goes harder than the original and that's facts.
Sweet Jesus, have you got the sheet music for this?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW
ソロのところ再現出来ててすごい!
Ça torche ton affaire!! (Rough translation: you kick ass)
I love your shirt xD
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool Daddy,Cool !!!!!!
As a saxophone/clarinet player, I hate that it sounds so good.
Wow! I am amazed, this was great. If you're looking for another good piece by Yoko Kanno look at Rush. Fun running melody with a with a smooth repetative bass line. I think it would work really great as a transcription for clarinet ensemble!
My favorite instrument is the guitar but I like them all.
That shirt....I need.....❤️❤️.
I want to play this
Fucking awesome man.
I CAN DO THIS ON MY SAX WE SHOULD JAM!!
when you stretch out your forrarms don't pull from the fingers. it'll overstretch the ligaments and the muscles in the fingers, so instead focus on pull back from the palm. it provides the same stretch without the wear and tear :)
I really wish I was that good at clarinet lol
wow
I want this
Looks like he is enjoying his self ...
You should try doing “I’ve got you under my skin” by Frank Sinatra
I WANT THAT SHIRT!!

One of the reasons want my own bass is so I can have a case to put that sticker on - and set it between me and the saxes :D
gypsyvail I've got buttons on my site if you're interested... they're like $1 or something.
Can you tell me where to get the music sheets for the clarinet cause I seriously want to play this song on my clarenute!
ncie shirt!
Can I have the the sheet music for this? I play clarinet as well as bass clarinet and I think this would be super fun and a great challenge.
Fucking excellent !..…..
Love it.
I like to play sax solos on my clarinet too xD
Like buffalo dances, pequena czarda,... It's amazing the time I spent transcribing pequena czarda... and it is not done yet!
Buffalo it is easier, I've played it from my ear xD
I would like to ear someone playing Leo P "Moanin" solo on clarinet :D If someone can make it, plz talk to me XD
Search it up someone made it
Wish the band instructor gave me that good of a bass line
Will you upload your transcription anywhere? thanks!
I would love to have sheet music for this! (just so I can play the solo)
Wow that was awesome! Is sheet music for this available?
Hey where can I find the sheet music for this song transposed for clarinet?
Do u have the sheet music?
Because me and my friends wanted to play it
Fact-o-the-day! The main character is based off of my real life self!
B O N G O
Great! You should try with 14 players!
Well, he is the 14 players
Where do I get the sheet music for this? everything I find online does not convert the solo for the clarinet!!!
I listen to this too much.
Great job, and the practice tips are good (i wish i had a place to go where i could play the same run over and over without annoying my grandparents and brother) Also are you accustomed to playing jazz styles? I ask because i occasionally have issue playing swing style slowly and articulated on clarinet and wonder if you have any tips to help with that?
Yes, I'm accustomed to playing jazz quite a bit. I recommend listening to a lot of it and trying to emulate what you hear. Transcribing solos (like this, or perhaps something not quite so hard) is a great way to start.
Earspasm Music thanks! For some reason on the soprano clarinet i've had a much harder time articulating than any sax or horn,
Btw do you check your PM's? I had sent some questions under my other page's name (virtuosorodriguez) and was hoping you could answer a few. Great job again by the way!
Please someone tell me where I can find, bflat clarinet sheet music to this pleaseeee😁
Please, tell me where I can buy this transcription
This is the first time something non classical on clarinet has genuinely impressed me, bar a few street musicians
Like musicians everywhere, not that gigs are cancelled, you have too much time on your hands... hahahaha... but Great Job!
