On the big bikes slow control was a piece of cake.

Great tips, thanks a lot! I'm currently doing my motorcycle license and failed my first exam because of exactly what you described. Panicked during the figure 8 and put my foot down. Ironically, when I was practicing this the day before, I did it at least 20 times without error. I guess my nerves made me stupid.
Yeah, my nerves got me too when i went for my CBT, but thankfully my main issue was balance, and i think i got it back, let's hope it is sunny this round for my CBT XD
The game element is worth a go, I keep going out into roads on the way back from work to try u turns but never get it and they've just got worse. It clicked watching this, I'm basically teaching myself u turns are difficult when I should spend a few hours on my day off after a nights rest and play make the circle, figure 8 smaller
As well as using the clutch and throttle to meter power in slow tight turns, another technique that works well is to drag the rear brake against the throttle. This helps keep the bike upright. It might be a bit much for a first timer to get all three down, but it is very helpful, especially with heavier bikes.
GREAT VIDEO. Slow control is a HUGE part of riding. To me is easy to go on the high way and do 140-160MPH but it was the slow driving that really test my skills. PRO TIP: *** when doing this exercises make sure to ride normal or rest the clutch for a bit since slow riding put lots of pressure/wear into it.***
Was that when you were doing the figure of 8 and u turn? So if you’re doing the left turn of a figure of 8, open out your left leg a little? I did my cbt over a year ago and I remember my instructor telling me to counter balance and put my weight on the opposite side of the turn I was making .
@@ilyas_khan yea. I open out the left leg a little when going to the left while counter balancing my weight slightly on the opposite side and vice versa if that makes sense. Opening the leg helped me make the turn easier.

Incredibly helpful Spicy! Thank you. I have my theory test booked for a couple weeks time, really excited. thanks again brother! congrats on the subs also. I love the effort you put into your videos!
You explained and demonstrated that really well for new riders. So important to grasp and master. But even for experienced riders, practising those slow maneuvers is not only beneficial but fun if you make it a competition, i.e. the slow race, etc. Cheers :-)
For the people outside your country What is a mod 1? I have just started doing this with a Harley Davidson Sporstser with cones the course is inside and oblong the I do figure 8s circles and the long side clutch feathering and all the exercises are under 15 km. Incredible motorcycle dexterity. Incredible video very easy to follow. Congratulations and thank you.
Using the rear brake and the clutch makes it much more smooth and controlled when slow riding and turn in the road. When ever I tried it with just the clutch it wasnt as easy, when ever my instructor told me to use the rear brake on the turn in the road it was so much easier :) Also we was told sometimes they get you to do a turn in the road on the right hand side of the road just to test you. And the mod 1 was HUGE it was in a massive dedicated tennis court kinda thing. We practiced a lot tighter and when it come to the mod 1 I felt like I had SO much room. On my mod 1 I actually went too fast on the section where you got to get up to 30MPH because I was worried I wouldnt go fast enough, but because I showed I could stop well within the zone, I got off with it because it wasnt stupid fast, just a little faster than they wanted haha. Also a thing to help calm down was my friends who I was training with, chatting over the stuff with the instructor, and the fact that instructors are all bikers, they want you to pass they arent out there to get you. That and you have tonnes of room, And mod 2 is just a nice little ride out :)
Excellent video Spicy, very simple and concise... I hope this is a HUGE hit for you! P.S. i received my new T-Shirt the other day, great quality, fits a treat, and I wore it to my local pub and got asked loads about it :-)
Great video mate! I used to be an instructor back in the part 1 & 2 test days and this is exactly the way we used to teach. I still do it myself occasionally for practice. I'll be trying the full lock slow challenge soon... should be fun on a Versys 1000!
The way I was taught from my cbt instructor is the bike has a wet clutch so the revs dont matter you could be revving super high as long as you let the clutch out smoothly and slowly so that's how I learnt, my problem is slow control i eventually sorted it out but instructor said it wasnt perfect even tho I could do it decently then said book another appointment to practice more on slow control it pissed me off
Thanks dude. Really helpful. Did my CBT yesterday and got this just fine on the pad but struggled a bit on the road ride when there was more to think about.
Got my mod one on Monday. Shitting myself to be honest. The U turn was my most feared manouvre but the actual space you get is huge. The only thing I struggled with was the figure 8 but hopefully looking at the cones for the pivot point will help.
good information iv been riding 125 s for years iv been doing my cbt over and over but in August i got my mod 1 for the A1 125 licence i find clutch control easy on hill starts are very hard at first but what i did was i stopped on a slop and moved off and stopped an tell i got use to it but good video
Grate is video I passed my mod, 1 today, 4,minors but Great Britain video it help me loads the only thing is I have to learn not to cover my front brake all the time but in all great video.
Tools like this should be used as part of CBT/training generally. Having the first person view, in addition to being told what to do is very useful. Particularly for a complete beginner as they are also thinking about controlling the bike. I think that watching a first person video of someone doing the exercise, with an overlay to show what they should be looking at, would be a good as they don't need to think about controlling the bike.
I was getting rather good at low speed control on my 125. Since I bought a great fat quarter-ton sports tourer it's all gone out the window though. Need to get some practice in.
wish u could teach me. My instructor was bad, failed cbt twice.... 😢 Also the throttle seemed soooooo sensitive where i did it. Not sure if they supplied dodgy bike
Cheers Spicy I'll be trying these, I already do the balancing at the lights sometimes. But never thought about the riding circles that get smaller ect. The only worry I have is going from being able to control the weight of a 125 to 500-650cc bike, when in motion I've been told you don't notice it but the low speed stuff worries me that I'll end up not being strong enough and dropping it.
What your doing is finding and staying around the 'bite point' of the clutch... I understand its a tips video... but be mindful not to get into a habit of slipping the clutch too much. If you learn the bite point of the bike, you will learn the 'feel'. Good tip with back brake... you don't want to 'chase' the thing.. just maintain a steady drive the rear wheel (as you say clutch, throttle, and brake). The other items I'd add in are forward vision and accelerations sense. In a real word situation... good forward observation helps give you processing time (to work out what you do and what how)... that in turn doesn't create a panic (or limits it) which allows more head space and time... to slow down gently and not have to be in a situation where your stopping often... which leads to your game of slow riding.
I think one of the things that makes MOD1 easier than the CBT is definitely the fact the bike has loads more power when compared to a 125. That sounds scary but once you get your head around the clutch (which, if you've been riding a geard 125 for 2 years, should be easy) and realise that as long as you keep the revs consistent the bike kinda just putters along. That, and bigger bikes have bigger tyres so you can lean it over more if need be. It's all about trusting the bike and having faith in your instructor
Just one this I will correct larger tyres don't allow you to lean more. Nicked this off the webs as it states it nicely. A bike with a wider tire will have to lean more to achieve the same corner speed, because the actual point where the tire is touching the ground is farther away from the theoretical point.
i got my mod 1 on friday and i got told off for covering the front brake all the time but i didt even know i did it but the only thing im finding hard is finger of 8 but all the other pars are easy anyway great video keep up the good work
Nathan Stephen i've got an MT 07 but i don't think you need a big bike to be classed as a biker , riding a 125 is still doing the same thing just less power

P.S. i received my new T-Shirt the other day, great quality, fits a treat, and I wore it to my local pub and got asked loads about it :-)
+Martin Carey thanks dude 😀 glad you like it
Good tips, mod 1 coming soon.. 👍🏴
...slow racing, love it!
+Ant Laud it's more fun! Risk of crashing is high risk of injury is low haha
Great video mate! I used to be an instructor back in the part 1 & 2 test days and this is exactly the way we used to teach. I still do it myself occasionally for practice. I'll be trying the full lock slow challenge soon... should be fun on a Versys 1000!
yep car park morn or night slow run are fun
counter steering in between leaves on the road
The way I was taught from my cbt instructor is the bike has a wet clutch so the revs dont matter you could be revving super high as long as you let the clutch out smoothly and slowly so that's how I learnt, my problem is slow control i eventually sorted it out but instructor said it wasnt perfect even tho I could do it decently then said book another appointment to practice more on slow control it pissed me off
Big help man thanks. Cbt coming up haven't ridden in a bit.
This has got me excited, got my cbt on the 17th, had me laughing at the end
Thanks dude. Really helpful. Did my CBT yesterday and got this just fine on the pad but struggled a bit on the road ride when there was more to think about.
The first time I rode a bike a while back i didn't stall at all much to my suprise! Was only a 125 though!
Very helpful! Looking forward to try that out on my next lesson 🙌
Excellent instruction, and also entertaining..The Helmet and bike are cool...
thanks for your guidance. Passed my mod 1 yesterday .
+scorp4165 sweet! Congratulations dude
This video is so much more helpful in boosting my confidence, also 60K subs w00t!
I did some training yesterday and I can do everything it was easy thanks for uploading a great deal of video iv watched it loads of times
Really helpful video mate , I shall be practicing as I’ve got mod1 and mod2 in January :)
Grate is video I passed my mod, 1 today, 4,minors but Great Britain video it help me loads the only thing is I have to learn not to cover my front brake all the time but in all great video.
+Rodney Fisher congratulations 🎊 a pass is a pass
Congratulations on 60k Spicy!
+JBL thanks 😁
doing my a2 mod 1 on the 20th glad you done this vid
Nicky Jenkins im doing my mod 1 on the 20th! Good luck
Got my mod 1 next week. Thanks for the tips. Not quite as easy on a sport style bike but I'll try your tips in a car park somewhere ;)
+Kickassdave check this one out, close to a sports bike ua-cam.com/video/c1n5cUZfMqk/v-deo.html
You’re a legend mate!
First time is not simple eveeyone but it wont take long to learn you will pass your cbt dont worry if u need go back for 1 more day
I was getting rather good at low speed control on my 125. Since I bought a great fat quarter-ton sports tourer it's all gone out the window though. Need to get some practice in.
can u do it on divi? challange
thanks spicy thats really good .I wish id found this earlier booked in monday!!!
wish u could teach me. My instructor was bad, failed cbt twice.... 😢 Also the throttle seemed soooooo sensitive where i did it. Not sure if they supplied dodgy bike
Hard luck, where are you based? I've done a few cbts across the country so probably could recommend a good un near you
@@hazzalandy thanks mate but I passed my CBT now somewhere else. Currently doing my DAS training, and so far its going really well :)
@@everythinggaming7938 Eyy congrats!
@@hazzalandy thanks mate!
Good tutorial. Explanation is excellent.
Im struggling with my bike. Im brand new to biking. I need help and tips or proper braking and taking off again.
Then my how to ride a motorcycle video will help more than this.
Ha ha ha ha caught me off guard the bye bye.
Please do more of these covering the mod 2 ect
Terrific instructions 👍
i got my mod 1 on friday and i got told off for covering the front brake all the time but i didt even know i did it but the only thing im finding hard is finger of 8 but all the other pars are easy anyway great video keep up the good work
+Rodney Fisher best of luck! Yep for the test hands on grips 😁
Thanks for a properly helpful video mate 😊
Really useful again, brill and thanks!
@ spicy110 I'm now classed as a biker mod 2 passed full category a license. You are right mod 2 was a breeze compared to mod 1.
Nathan Stephen
i've got an MT 07 but i don't think you need a big bike to be classed as a biker , riding a 125 is still doing the same thing just less power
Do you mean we should slightly press rear brake all the time while going on slow speed ?
In a tight manoeuvre it helps keep your speed in control but you don't want to be riding the rear brake anytime time you're going slow.
