      Halfdead Rider I had my Mod1 practice and it didn’t go great lol. I wasn’t going fast enough, when I did I was going to fast. also before I was going through the speed trap I would pull my clutch in and front and back brake. he said after the speed trap use your front and back break to slow the bike down, then use your clutch closer to the stop. wasn’t as easy as I thought lol. also on the Uturn I put my foot down” grhhhhhh

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  6 років тому +3

      +sam macca I did not know there was a speed limit lol you should really only use the front brake until you almost stop, use the rear just before bringing the clutch in. Don't use the rear brake at all during the emergency stop. As for the U-turn, get up to 5-6 mph use the clutch biting point and look where you want to be and be brave, you won't fall. Good luck with it 👍

    Great video.. great run thru.. thanks for uploading...
    I have been riding in America for decades, but unfortunately, the U.S. doesn’t have a good test like these Mods, so anyone can just buy motorcycles and ride, which is ridiculous...at least it was like that years ago, not sure now...
    I think tHE CBT and these 2 mods are excellent for getting riders the strong fundamentals they need to learn to ride well and stay safe on the roads....
    I just completed my CBT and have been practicing these skills and hopefully taking my MoD1 in the beginning of 2022...
    I have been scouring UA-cam and watching these videos over and over.. came across yours yesterday. You did a great job explaining everything... I was glad to see the sequence of events, because I wasn’t quite sure....
    Thanks very much and congrats....

      I think it is still the same in the states, but they can do the MSF course, but I'm sure it's not compulsory. I'm glad you felt my video was good, and helpful, good luck with the test.

    Hi I had to take my Mod 1 test today in the blazing heat. It didn't go well. after the figure of 8 he asked me to line up for the slow ride. But then he bluntly told me to put the bike in neutral turn it off put the stand down and get off the bike. No explanation as to why the test routine was being changed! I assumed I'd made a majoy mistke, paniced and ended up missing the stand and dropping the bike. I was thern told I'd failed the test. I pushed the bike back and was told that my test has been stopped at the slow ride because the speed trap eqipment wasn't working because of the extreme heat. I asked why it wasn't checked first, upon which the examiner got angry. Eventually, I was told that my test was being classified as a termination, not a fail, and I would be refunded my test fee. That meant that I could rebook without waith for 3 days, bur there's no slots To be honest I feel messed about. I officially didn't fail, but I believe the EXAMINER did!! We get penalised for not checking a mirror or, lifesaver, but it is Ok for them to start a test without chacking the speed trap set up befor starting a test LOL. VERY DISAPPOINED!!

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  2 роки тому +2

      That's a shame bud, but at least you get to go again without being charged extra, not great that your mistake was brought on by the heat and confusion of the instructors actions. Totally understand your frustration, but try and keep positive, the heatwave will be over in a day or two, and you'll get to go again, put it down to extra and free training. Good luck next time bud 👍

      @HalfdeadRider  6 років тому +1

      They are not a great training centre if you are not getting training. The £670 should pay for a two or three day course.
      First you should be training for your Mod 1 most of the day then do the test at the end of that day. The next will be for Mod 2 (on road), with the test at the end.
      If you fail you should just have to pay test fees, Mod 1 is or was £15 Mod 2 is around £60-70 if I remember right.
      I done mine over a few months, two hour lesson every couple of weeks with Mod 1 + 2 being a few weeks apart.

      They usually get you to pull over to make sure you do it safe, and pull away safely, sometimes as with me, on a bend.
      Just make sure you read the road signs, use any bus lanes that you are allowed, and not the ones you shouldn't of course. And obviously keep to speed limits and do lots of mirror checks and life savers, as you will on mod 1 also.

      @HalfdeadRider  6 років тому

      WOW! a comment from the future lol ;)
      That is a good question, the reason they are avoiding the question is because it can depend on the individual, some people learn faster than others. You will likely do 6-8 hours before Mod1 and then the same again before Mod2.
      If you can afford it, it is worth booking your DAS in one go, usually done over a couple of days or so, as you get to be on the bike for longer in one go getting your confidence up. I could not afford it so I done a two hour lesson every two weeks, third one being test day.
      Don't worry about it being cold or even if it gets rainy, the bikes still handle very well in these conditions. Key to doing well is to try your best to relax and enjoy it every step of the way and you should be fine, good luck with it mate.

      It's possible, but you generally are going a little slower that way, 5-6 mph is a good speed to be at in the cones and on the figure of eight (especially to new riders).
      Riding the clutch, and a tiny bit of throttle steadies the bike and controls the speed, this makes slow manoeuvres much easier/more controlled.

      Plus as I previously said, to be 'more' steady on slow manoeuvres, you need to ride the clutch with a little throttle. This makes use of the engines gyroscopic effect and you control the speed with the clutch and a light touch of rear brake. Although the rear brake is not needed it can and does help.
      Otherwise you will not learn how to control a bike correctly and as easily as possible at low speeds, it's why the test is designed this way.

    The man on my test failed me because my front wheel was an inch or so past the cones on the last exercise. I heard you mention that it's OK to have it before or slightly in the middle with the front wheel but that wasn't allowed in my case. Makes me want to go to another test centre.

      Sorry to hear mate, it's been too long since doing mine to really understand where and why you were failed. If you feel it was wrong ask your instructors, they will know if the test instructor was being fair or not, you shouldn't fail on just one mistake alone, unless it is quite a serious mistake.
      You'll do it next time I'm sure, put this one behind you and don't let it effect you on the next one.

      Halfdead Rider I am booking my DAS this week. I had a quick go on the mod 1 training with a wank instructor which was going mad at me because I was going to fast or too slow through the speed trap which he made me feel uncomfortable so fucked him off! any tips mate?

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  6 років тому +1

      The advise I was given for that was to go around the bend at about 20mph or just over then just twist the throttle a decent amount as you straighten up just before the speed trap, you should get more than enough speed. There should not be a top end limit but you won't go too fast either. Tell your DAS instructor about this experience, he should give you tips and reassure you, you should also get to practice again just before the Mod 1. Good luck mate

    shame about the intro music

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider  5 років тому +2

      With hindsight I would have left it off this video as I knew it would be popular before I made it, it was just what I used on all my usual motovlogs, personal preference hey, at least it was just a small clip to get through. I did later change my intro, and these days I don't bother with one at all. Thanks for watching anyway and good luck 👍
