    Great video comparison. In watching this on a true 4K screen the image quality is MUCH closer. In fact there are many examples where the Hero 9 actually looks better ( Low Light, etc ) The additional sharpness of the Hero 10 looks better on smaller screens but look much worse on full resolution screens. Digital sharpness is NOT more detail. It just adds a contrast border around all the image edges that you can't get rid of in post. Oddly the Hero 9 ( especially in Flat Profile ) is a much cleaner image by far. Also in Flat profile, the Hero 9 disables the beauty filter so color grading is much easier. I would suggest that if you really need the higher frame rates, the Hero 10 makes sense to upgrade. If you don't, the image quality using the Flat Profile on the Hero 9 actually produces a better overall image.

    03:46 - Exactly what I needed to know. I just shot an indoor video (well lit) with the Hero 9 and the 'face smoothing' is horrendous. I'm very pleased to hear that this is gone on the Hero 10.

    The 3D Noise Reduction is implemented with oversampling: Try low light in 4K 30 and 1080p 60p, huge improvement over 5,3K with the same ISO. (however 4K 60, 1080p 30 will not be better, different sensor readout)

    I'm trying to record the driving experience in Bali using this camera, still exploring to get the perfect setting and shoot from this MountMedia channel. Thanks for sharing your camera exploration.
    However, I'm still struggling with the UA-cam compression artifact. It's really downgrading the image quality once it's uploaded.

    Checkin on a larger screen you can see big advantages of the 10 compared to the 9. Indeed foliage is brighter and appears more true to its real color and the skin tones are much better. Also add the snappiness of the operation because of the new processor and the conclusion is that we have a winner. I am getting the 10. I'm sold.
    Thanks again for your effort to show this to us.

    Nice. I just bought it. Good improvements over my hero 8. I like the faster write speed of burst still photos and 19 megapixel screen grabs from 5.3k. Good features for diving. I wish in low light it was better. Sometimes where I dive it can be dark at the bottom.
    The natural colors look so much better than the old gopro vibrant colors that I may not need to shoot flat.
    Why do you think there was less detail on the wall in your flat mode sample? Just less digital sharpening?
    I had considered the 1 inch insta one r. But colors look like a cartoon, it seems buggy and even more expensive.
    At the end you can make great content with this gopro. It’s up to the photographer

    • @MountMediaChannel
      @MountMediaChannel  3 роки тому

      No, if you shoot flat some of the detail gets lost - it's not just the digital sharpness. The reason is the compression of the video file.

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix 3 роки тому

      @@MountMediaChannel interesting and strange. It defeats the purpose of shooting flat to preserve more tonal detail, but you lose fine detail.

    I think hypersmooth has, and continues to be useful..
    But... Yeah, what you obviously don't see in the promotional materials is that ever so slight (basically imperfect) smearing effect that you see when there is not enough light for the algorithm to work with.
    Its impressive, please don't get me wrong, but for example, I used to try hypersmooth on Low (hero 8), on the brightest of sunny days, using any kind of ND filter (even as low as 8), made the smearing effect.
    Basically I found it pretty hard to marry any ND filter with hypersmooth.

    Really interesting video!
    I think, if you're not using it for action sports, iPhone is a much better option overall. GoPro has really lost it when they decided to stick to a 1/2.3" sensor, same size for years now, in a world where even smartphones have long moved away from such a tiny sensor. Let's wait for the new DJI Pocket 2, as the rumors point to a larger sensor.

      100% correct! I purchased this camera and was shocked by how terrible the image quality was. I sent it back immediately as my iPhone has much better image quality.

    I just got home at 10pm from a MTB trail ride testing my NEW Hero 10 shooting 4K @ 60fps. It was pitch dark, using a 1600 Lumens bike light. Well the video sucks being the video is blurry. Once I stopped it cleared up. I had the same issue with my 9. I was expecting some improvement with the 10 per their ad: "enhanced low-light performance and game-changing HyperSmooth 4.0 video stabilization in all modes" Don't expect that if you are on a dark bumpy trail.

    • @thefpvcompany
      @thefpvcompany 3 роки тому

      Did you use, fixed settings? Or letting the gopro descide. For fixed settings, like schuttertime and iso will improve image. But you need to play with it. Also 60fps is pretty high for evening. 24 25 30 is bether option. But play with the settings, and see what works. Standerd rule. If your fps is like 30 shutterneeds to be on 1/60. Best is double up for nice motion blur. Have fun :)

    Exceptional work! For me, however, putting the Hero 10 on my KTM 500 EXC-F with Horizon Leveling with standard Hypersmooth in comparison to the Hero 9 is like night and day --->And no lag on the menu, plus bootup time is important to me! Yet, IMO, it does appear that GoPro simply upgraded their software a little, replaced the GP1 to a GP2 chip, and is basically using 99% of the GoPro 9's camera sensor, body, and hardware. A bit overpriced too, but I can' say that I am unhappy.

    Il vero upgrade potrebbe essere la maggior reattività della cam senza più i blocchi della stessa e il touch che non risponde velocemente. In condizioni di luminosità scarsa vedo sempre i soliti risultati. Bene la ripresa del volto; più dettagliato e senza dettagli spalmati. Vale la pena passare dalla hero 7 altrimenti penso un upgrade modesto.

    Pour ceux qui ont des problèmes de surchauffe avec la Hero 10 (cela arrive bien moins souvent avec la 9), voici la réponse de Gopro :
    "Le traitement en mode haute performance nécessite beaucoup d'énergie, c'est pourquoi GoPro a mis en place des protections pour protéger les consommateurs et les caméras contre la surchauffe lorsque la caméra atteint une certaine température. La HERO10 est conçue pour prendre en charge ce pour quoi nous savons qu'une majorité de propriétaires de HERO utilisent la caméra : tourner des clips plus courts dans des environnements avec un flux d'air naturel.
    Les recherches de GoPro montrent que 75 % des vidéos tournées avec des GoPros durent moins d'une minute et dix secondes. La HERO10 Black peut enregistrer 5,3k à 60 ips pendant 20 minutes sans flux d'air, soit environ 16 fois la durée moyenne d'une vidéo GoPro. La HERO10 Black peut enregistrer 4k à 60 ips pendant 25 minutes sans débit d'air, soit plus de 21 fois la durée moyenne d'une vidéo GoPro.
    Ainsi, pour le scénario de tournage où de longs clips aux plus hautes résolutions dans un environnement statique sont nécessaires, nous recommandons de prendre les mesures nécessaires pour fournir un certain flux d'air. Cela améliorera les performances thermiques de la caméra et permettra une capture vidéo plus longue."
