I really enjoyed your video! So I've been looking for an action cam for IRL live streaming (Twitch) and waited for the hero 10 to compare. I've seen a lot of complaints with the Hero 9 such as not being able to go live with an android, can't use it interchangeably as a webcam, and short battery life. Are these all still issues? Will the battery life now be worse because it's using the same battery as 9 to support all of the newest features of 10? Also, it appears there's still no upgrade for only getting 1080 for live.
I never had one but I was thinking of the 10 ? Is it easy to use and post the video on Facebook? Also to take still photos. Thanks for your help. Charles
Less glitchy with newer sensor, smoother touch screen, little added things. Hero 9 is probable dead in GP's eyes now. Doubt they'll do any more update either unlike the dji osmo.
I've been looking to upgrade my current action cam for years now. I have a 2016 Sony FDR X1000V. Still shoots well, but Img Stab is way obsolete. Been waiting for Go Pro to put a non glitchy camera out for 3 years now. I hope this is it
is bad as GP9, the cpu is more powerfull but its enter in thermalthrottle and overheating issues that turn off your GP. Now imagine if you keep it in a powerbank while rec, probably will see at news GP10 exploded.
Ok so I've seen plenty of youtube channels that cover these things as I'm in the market, but your work by far is the best explanation from a non video oriented person looking into this. You cover the technical details with easy to understand visuals and simplified explanations. Thank you for an honest review instead of the clickbait talking points that most other channels focus on.
There are a few questions about overheating and I have the same concern. With the GoPro Hero 9, I would be able to record MAYBE 15-20 mins in 4k 30fps. David - could you let the camera record at 4k either 30 or 24 FPS and let it run till it over heats and let us know how long the video was? Indoors on your kitchen counter or wherever would be fine to eliminate outdoor temperature and air flow variables. Thanks!
Aside from my last negative comment about GoPro as a company, dude, you are flat-out the best reviewer of technology like this. You don't miss a beat, you don't over-fluff the perks, you tell us just EXACTLY HOW IT IS and MAN- people need to realize how valuable the truth is.
Hi. I have 1 easy question. Everytime I take the battery out of GoPro and then put it back the GoPro still needs to set up time and date. It is very annoying setting it up if I take the battery out. Is there a possibility to solve this somehow? Thank you in advance.
The lens coating, the processor and the natural colour are great features that will be a massive improvement from our current Hero 6. So excited to get our hands on one!
From what I hear for continuous recording to make for example Driving videos as I do on my channel it overheats way too fast on anything higher than 4k60 it won't run for longer than 20min~ it's a "bad" I wish more people pointed out, still waiting for more people to run tests regarding this before i would consider buying a GoPro hero 10
Thanks for the run through David! I can't, however, recommend Epidemic Sound...I signed up for a trial, used a couple songs in my videos and immediately got a copyright strike despite them saying that would never happen.
The natural color profile will be great for underwater filming when using a red/magenta filter! Ah this will really help in post so much ! Sometimes using flat will take way too much work getting the colors back so this would speed up the workflow hopefully
how's the other problems that plagued the 9?? thermal shutdown from overheating, popping, crazy chaptering, lost recordings, crashing, constant battery pulls and also hear battery life isn't as good by a good 20-30%
After two weeks of testing, I've seen none of that, which is why I'm actually stoked on this camera so far! I'll keep you updated as I continue to test it, but for me that was my major problem with the Hero 9. The GP2 seems to have fixed those issues. As for battery life, I only saw a loss when comparing it against the Hero 9 at a lower frame rate or resolution. So if I was filming at 5.3K 60 on the Hero 10 and 4K 60 on the Hero 9, I would see about a 5-10% reduction in battery life on the 10. But when they were at the same resolution and frame rate, then the batter life was the exact same. Again, just sort of the nature of cameras, the higher resolution or frame rate that you're shooting at, the lower battery life you'll have 👍

thanks for the vid! couple questions for ya: does it overheat just as quickly? does the improved cpu consume more battery? can you finally live stream without a battery on (with external power?)
Ditto on all three questions, but the big three for me were: 1. Severe overheating, even at 1080/60/Linear, no GPS, no ProTune. 2. Failed looping mode... set at 5 min but only creates 1 minute clips. 3. Terrible battery life... side-by-side test it had HALF of what my Hero 6 had in same modes I had the Hero 9 for just over a week before I was frustrated enough to call GoPro Support. After 45+ minutes on the phone with the GoPro rep, RE-installing latest firmware in an attempt just to fix the looping issue. After being reasonably happy with an original GoPro, followed by a Hero 3, then a Hero 6 before the 9, frankly I'm done with GoPro's.
The free replacements was a HUGE factor in me buying this morning, as a skiier/rock climber/scuba diver i have destroyed many gopros, super stoked to see how powder/snow does with the hydrophobic coating
Great review. I noticed banding in the sky at times (examples - 0:00, 10:08); but not all of the time; from both the GoPro 9 & 10. I don’t know if that’s in the source video, the UA-cam app for iPad OS set to 2160P, or my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9….
13:00 That used to happen because phone/app wasn't compatible with HVEC codec or something? On my 7 Black it does that only if I use the HVEC modes (4k60 for instance) but if I turned it down to 1080/30, I got view while I record. Is that not the case now? Either way i HATE that it does that, worst thing ever.
what less could they update? there's only a new processor. No new sensor or 10 bit colour :( Ill probably be getting it anyway, I fly fpv drones and i want maximum image quality possible in something that i can carry on my drone
@@cinialvespow1054 I didn't expect 4k 120 or 5k 60. Expectations were low unfortunately - ui improvements, performance improvements. My hero 9 for example can't do 5 sec interval timelapse in raw, freezes after 5 frames.
I wonder how the polar pro ND filters will behave with hypersmooth and the GP2 chip. It is a good upgrade but not good enough for an upgrade from a Hero 9
7:19 That clip didn't make its way into the video by itself. You wanted us to see it, so I'll comment about it: THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL THREE-STAGE SMILE. 😁
What about the sync between the iphone? Does it allow for iphone screen and gopro screen running at the same time? Found it...at the last of the video.
I’d like to see you compare the Hero 10 vs The Go 2. I’m still on the fence whether to give GoPro one last chance or to go to the Go 2 and Insta 360 to replace my Max. Still not a fan of the GoPro app though. Since it moved to Quik, I find my videos need to be downloaded twice to finally successfully download. This is the biggest reason I have not videoed much this year.
Thank you for the review of the GoPro 10. Do you see any over heating problems with the device? If so, what are the conditions causing it. Another you tuber seemed to find some overheating conditions.
Hi David Thanks for your good videos sharing. I just got my New hero 10 but I can not find where I can change videos respect ration from 4:3 to 16:9. could you help pls.
My biggest surprise is that they haven't been able to integrate the Max Lens feature (even with reduced resolution) into the base model. Insta360 have this in something a quarter of the size.
Same, I was really hoping that max lens mod would be integrated, but I guess the tradeoff is the 10 will fit in all cases/cages as the 9, which is better for the manufacturer and consumer. So, a compromise.
Hi David as your my go to for vids like this especially regarding the GoPro range watching this you mention wired pass off of media to your iPhone my question before I go searching for cables is can the hero8 do this also and by any chance can older cameras like the session 5. Thanks mate
I'd love to see how the hypersmooth holds up in low light. I'm guessing still not too well since you will still need a long exposure time, and will therefore still have the weird problems with motion blur. This is one area where small gimbal cameras like the Osmo pocket are better. I like to record marathons that often start in the predawn hours.
Yeah, the thing is, all action cameras that are doing this type of on-board stabilization are using frame by frame analysis to understand where things are in the frame to then keep them stable. In low light, they can't analyze the frame to understand what's happening and you end up losing that gimbal like stabilization. Like I mentioned in the video, small sensor cameras are not designed for low-light. Not really a GoPro issue as much as all small sensor cameras kind of thing👍
@@DavidManningvlog This is one reason I bought the DJI Pocket 2, not as a GoPro replacement but as a camera to use in low light and get cinematic footage. Amazingly the small sensor in the Pocket 2 holds up really well in low light. I would be interested to see how good or bad the Hero 10 footage is in low light if all stabilisation was turned off and it was on a gimbal instead. My guess is still not great, but more useable than the blotchy mess you get with EIS in low light!
Thanks for the informative info, I do have a question, I know you used the gopro 10 & sony zv-1. I'm a cruiser on carnival trying to decide between these two any suggestions?
I'm with you dude. It looks great but my 9 is more than enough for what I do. Getting a 10 would be more of the same just slightly better, where as a 360 will add such a new range of shots!
@@gedreeves @D W there are rumors that Insta is working on a small format 360 camera. I guess some sort of version of a Go2 360. That'll be very nice. What I want is a small format 360, like a 360 Gopro session or that Go2 360. I don't think a 360 needs a screen to see what's recording, because it's recording everything.
@@rubenvor yeah that would be awesome. I was close to pulling the trigger on the 360 x2 after David's video on his electric skateboard, but had just dropped a lot of money on other camera gear 😂 if something can upstage that camera, I'm in!
I hate to disillusion you but big leaps don't come every year. That's just a marketing ploy to keep consumers buying. Cell phones are the biggest example of that, although the car is probably the oldest. Most chassis are unchanged for at least a decade.
Didnt think there was anything they could do that’d get me to update from the 9, but those specs are powerful. Stoked to keep that Max lens mod and those powerhouse batteries.
Seeing a black screen on the app during record is a deal breaker. Won't get the 10 unless they fix this. Kinda hard to record soccer on an elevated pole if you can't see what you are looking at. That's the only reason I watched this video, thanks for answering that question for me!
Great review!! The hero9 has the problem, dropping the Mbit after heating up... would be nice to see if this happens to the hero10. How is the battery life and is there any overheating / shut down with the hero10? thank you again!
I only had one overheating shutdown during the two weeks, but I was shooting at 5.3K 60 in 95 degree heat. Totally fair to shut down. I've done some pretty extensive testing with other action cameras and they all shut down after about 15 mins in 95 degree heat. Just an issue with trying to dissipate heat on such a tiny camera. There's just not enough surface area to offload all that heat
@@DavidManningvlog I appreciate the response! Yes I hope they do make this better but for a $400+ camera I hope those issues get resolved soon with a patch hopefully!

Hey David.. Previous Gopro always use to hang in middle of shooting and need to remove battery.. And fix the problem... Is this issue still there or solved?

After being reasonably happy with an original GoPro, followed by a Hero 3, then a Hero 6 before the 9, frankly I'm done with GoPro's.
The free replacements was a HUGE factor in me buying this morning, as a skiier/rock climber/scuba diver i have destroyed many gopros, super stoked to see how powder/snow does with the hydrophobic coating
Any overheating? Another youtuber said it over heated after about 20 to 30 minutes. He also said battery consumption was worse. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the info. I have heard that the GoPro 10 gets hot. What has been your experience with the heat?
Great review. I noticed banding in the sky at times (examples - 0:00, 10:08); but not all of the time; from both the GoPro 9 & 10. I don’t know if that’s in the source video, the UA-cam app for iPad OS set to 2160P, or my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9….
One issue the 9 had was corrupted files. It got better with updates. Any issues with the 10 losing files? And thanks for the content enjoy it a ton.
Honestly I was expecting less of an update. Stoked for this one.
what less could they update? there's only a new processor. No new sensor or 10 bit colour :(
Ill probably be getting it anyway,
I fly fpv drones and i want maximum image quality possible in something that i can carry on my drone
Do we know yet if a Hero 9 battery will work with the new 10?
I'll buy this
ok
I want to see what insta360 comes out with before pulling the trigger. Hoping we see something this year
I just did
7:19 That clip didn't make its way into the video by itself. You wanted us to see it, so I'll comment about it: THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL THREE-STAGE SMILE. 😁
Bellissima recenzione, grazie! (Greetings from Italy)
Hey, great review. I’m in hunting of camera for filming my vacation and can get underwater.
Which is best: Insta360 one x2 or Gopro 10?
Can you do a video about all the custom video settings you have for the hero 10
Hi David Thanks for your good videos sharing. I just got my New hero 10 but I can not find where I can change videos respect ration from 4:3 to 16:9. could you help pls.
My biggest surprise is that they haven't been able to integrate the Max Lens feature (even with reduced resolution) into the base model. Insta360 have this in something a quarter of the size.
Same, I was really hoping that max lens mod would be integrated, but I guess the tradeoff is the 10 will fit in all cases/cages as the 9, which is better for the manufacturer and consumer. So, a compromise.
@@FowlersFreeTime But they could have achieved a lower resolution effect with the same lens I'm sure. And give us the Insta360 Go 2 features
Great review. Thanks. I’m curious about those thumbscrews. Where did you get them?
Hi David as your my go to for vids like this especially regarding the GoPro range watching this you mention wired pass off of media to your iPhone my question before I go searching for cables is can the hero8 do this also and by any chance can older cameras like the session 5. Thanks mate
I'd love to see how the hypersmooth holds up in low light. I'm guessing still not too well since you will still need a long exposure time, and will therefore still have the weird problems with motion blur. This is one area where small gimbal cameras like the Osmo pocket are better. I like to record marathons that often start in the predawn hours.
It doesn't do well, im just about to upload a video with the hero 10 on the bike at night time woth hypersmooth on.
Hi. Which one would recommend between GoPro 10 vs Inta360 go 2?
Thanks for the informative info, I do have a question, I know you used the gopro 10 & sony zv-1. I'm a cruiser on carnival trying to decide between these two any suggestions?
Sounds like not a big leap. Sticking to my hero 9 and wait for what's new from Insta 360.
I been thinking of buying the 360 Next I have the Hero 9
Have they fixed the camera from freezing up?
Does yours overheat after 20 minutes like everyone else’s ?
Does this make it worth getting over the osmo now?
Beyond belief that this is still overheating issues with this camera ?
@@AustinPetDetective ?
Didnt think there was anything they could do that’d get me to update from the 9, but those specs are powerful. Stoked to keep that Max lens mod and those powerhouse batteries.
Seeing a black screen on the app during record is a deal breaker. Won't get the 10 unless they fix this. Kinda hard to record soccer on an elevated pole if you can't see what you are looking at. That's the only reason I watched this video, thanks for answering that question for me!
It has probably to do with the contour gopro lawsuit, I think its about 2 or 3 patents regarding control the camera from the phone
Great review!!
The hero9 has the problem, dropping the Mbit after heating up... would be nice to see if this happens to the hero10. How is the battery life and is there any overheating / shut down with the hero10?
thank you again!
was waiting to buy a GoPro 10. Was hoping it was better in low light. With a light on top would it improve significantly ??? Nice review thanks !!!!
Did your review also showed that this overheated around 20 mins of use?
I only had one overheating shutdown during the two weeks, but I was shooting at 5.3K 60 in 95 degree heat. Totally fair to shut down. I've done some pretty extensive testing with other action cameras and they all shut down after about 15 mins in 95 degree heat. Just an issue with trying to dissipate heat on such a tiny camera. There's just not enough surface area to offload all that heat
@@DavidManningvlog I appreciate the response! Yes I hope they do make this better but for a $400+ camera I hope those issues get resolved soon with a patch hopefully!
Can you share a link to the case with microphone accessory at 3 minutes and seven seconds? Thanks!
Yeah, i am concerned about the overheating issue. What happens when it over heats? 😰
Gotta pop the battery out, kick back and relax until it cools down
Definitely will be my next camera because I don't like the bugginess of the GoPro 9. Great information thanks.
If you don't mind me asking, how do u edit using premiere? Can do a tutorial video?
Biggest let down for me has always been the usability of the app. Insta360 app is so much more user friendly.
That hydrophobic coating sounds nice. Blew countless sequences because I didn't realize there were some droplets on the lense.
What’s the clip called to RAISE the mic a bit higher to have it out of view of the lenses. It’s like the plastic clip that slides in then the mic on top of that. Does it even have a name? Haha
What about hero9 not working in low temperature?
Is it solved in the hero 10?
I'll need to get that tested too!
Any updates on the freezing issues of GoPro? Have they improved with the hero 10 and are they more reliable?
I want to know if I can get the 10 lens from the website (with the hydrophobic lens) and put it on my Hero 9. The website doesn't mention the hydrophobic detail on the 10 lens replacement.
Did you test the Hero 10 with the Max Lens Mod? Does it work? Does it look better?
Software needs an update for the MAX lens mod to work, so I wasn't able to test it yet!
Great video! I just placed my order Is there a Natural mode when taking photos?
Great review. Did you experience an over heating problem? I heard that it shuts off at 23 minutes due to overheating.
How about the battery backup and over heating, did you find out any difference....??
It's got wireless built it, right ? So, it needs a wireless external mic. Surely they could add that as a software update ?
I’m currently using a GoPro 9, with a max lens mod, so I’m gonna hold out until GoPro sort out the lens mod software on the 10.
I just bought one on Cyber Monday. Waiting for delivery. Never had one. Hope it's user friendly.
Here's a couple questions, maybe you can help. I just got the HERO10, that's an upgrade from the 8 for me, but I'm wondering if you can explain the difference in battery saving mode and maximum modes. I see a little diffence in resolution, but what is the difference? Also, how can I connect my wireless go 2 to it, I don't have a media mod for it yet. Thanks.
Great review. I was hoping for better low light. My GP10 is ordered and excited to try it when it arrives next week. Upgrading from the 7.
So it's been a yr any recap on this go pro 10... How is it holding up now?
I have the GoPro 7 and purchased many of the items you reviewed in your video "ULTIMATE GoPro Accessories Guide" from 2019. Will many of these accessories continue to work with the GoPro 10? Great stuff as usual. I love your channel.
I just received my hero9 black yesterday. Time to send it back and get the new one.
zero info on it's usage as a webcam. because of it's tiny size and capabilities, we've been using go pros (5 & 7) as live webcams with clean mini hdmi out. need to know if the newer 10 will allow this and if so, constant power and will it overheat like the older ones do.
One question how is it with the Max Lens Mod? Is it now shooting 2.7K+ with 120fps?
Hey David.. Previous Gopro always use to hang in middle of shooting and need to remove battery.. And fix the problem...
Is this issue still there or solved?
Great review, I'm still using the 7, and it's starting to have issues, might need to upgrade. On the 10 can hypersmooth be used in 5k 60? that would be awesome. If not, could you tell me what the highest resolution at 60fps is possible? thanks.
How is the battery life? is it less due to the more powerful processor and inceased resolution?
