    After fighting with the stock guylines (particularly the vestibule doors), I had enough and used your video to make the upgrade. Thanks for the instructional video. Course, BA should just fix their standard outfitting and improve their customers' experience.

    Genius 😊
    I own the Copper Spur HV UL2 but I haven’t set it up yet.
    As a matter of fact, I’ve never set up a tent.
    I’ve been putting it off because my dog is going to try to steal all the pieces for toys while I’m setting it up 🤣🤣🤣
    I plan to leave her inside the house and set it up in the backyard a few times so she’ll learn it’s our home away from home.
    I’ll set mine up the factory way a few times first and then make all the guy lines you’ve invented.
    This is brilliant! I don’t know about tents yet but I have an engineering degree so I can appreciate what you’ve designed, what it accomplishes, and the advantage over the factory way even though I haven’t used it yet.
    (I bet gram weenies wouldn’t think it’s worth the extra “weight” 🤣😂🤣🤣🤣 but IMO it absolutely is!!)
    Thank you!!!

    Just finished making these mods to my Tiger Wall. Huge thanks to Ahonui Outdoors for posting this video! And some additional thoughts.: (1) for the tent guy-outs, you don't need a clamp in order to even the tension between the upper and lower legs, you can just shift the Line Lodk 3 by adjusting the line through it; and (2) I'd recommend tying a simple knot in all the loose ends hanging out of the Line Locks, just to prevent them from slipping through. Otherwise, just follow the directions in the video! Works like a charm!

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  2 роки тому

      Glad it helped! And I’m with you, totally tie a knot on the end of the line. It’s annoying when it slips out of the line loc. especially on the vestibule hook lol.

    On the corer, you can tie a slip knot at the triangle and a taut-line hitch to the stake. The rainfly can be one stright taut-line. No plastic, easier to adjust, and probably save a few milligram ^_^

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      I don’t know that I would say “easier to adjust” as the line lock three is quite easily adjusted using one hand in any situation, and I’m not a gram counter by any means lol. However, this method could for sure save you a few bucks on the linelocs and would be less bulky without all the added plastic. If you were any good with knots it may even save you line. (I’m not 🤣)

      @@AhonuiOutdoors Doesn't it bother you it pulls tent corner up? Anyway, I think the original big triangle line looks OK if not for the fixed guy line. All you need is untie the upper, add a few inches to the tent loop, then use the existing line to tie an adjustable taut hitch around the new section. You only ever need to tie these knots once at home, doesn't have to be an expert. You can even make the lower adjustable so you don't have to worry too much about the stakes are

      Jonathan Isak I completely agree, I’m really not sure at all what they were thinking lol. Besides those 4 specific guy lines, and then sewing the twin flap on the fly directly up against the zipper so it catches all the time, this is my ideal shelter. Good video. Convenient that your shop table is just the right size for your tent!! One thought. Wouldn't it have been a lot easier to simply run a single line with some slack between the two loops on each corner of the tent, and then tie your adjustable guy line onto that line so it can slide and find its own center? Would have saved you a lot of trial and error, and even with what you have, I'm thinking that if you pitch your tent on uneven ground and the angle to the stake changes, either the upper or lower line will go slack, whereas if the guy line was floating, it would find center and give even tension - like a bridle on a kite.

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      Heretic10001 it wasn’t quit big enough actually. Had to made little stick with nails on it to extend out to act as the “stakes” and clamp those to the table. But I definitely won’t complain about having the giant table lol. If you did what you have described here it would work but you would not be able to get good solid tention on the big net and make the bathtub floor pull out/ stand up as tall as it does. It would more be like you pinched the bathtub floor and the big net would sag. Uneven ground and position of the stake won’t cause the triangle portion to sag because those lengths never change as long as there is tension on them. The triangle doesn’t know what the ground situation only that it has tension from the same point of contact. The only thing that changes is how long or short the adjustable line is. That’s what makes the system so efficient. I’m sure at some point the system wouldn’t be able to handle the terrain but if it were that severe I probably shouldn’t have set up camp there lol.

    • @Heretic10001
      @Heretic10001 5 років тому +1

      If the length of the “bridle” between the upper and lower loops at each corner is equal to the sum of the lengths of your two fixed legs as you have it now, then you would have the exact same triangle you have now, which doesn’t pinch down the bathtub.

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      Heretic10001 I see what you are saying. I thought you just meant a shorter piece of cord. You could do this but you will not be able to make the triangle the length you want because can’t account for how much cordage your knots on either end will take up. One person that made this modification after my first video did what you have described which works fine but she was unable to control how long the triangle was. This won’t be sufficient if you want to be able to have the stake in a very particular location like I do because I want to set my ground sheet up first and it fits in a very particular location, if your not staying out your groundsheet at all and you can afford to not know where tour stake will be (initially, obviously it’s location won’t have to change once the line is made) but I don’t have the livery of that first guess, if that makes sense. I’m not sure I described that properly at all lol

    • @Heretic10001
      @Heretic10001 5 років тому

      Yes I think we’re still not quite on the same page. If the knot attaching the adjustable guy line to the “bridle” is simply AROUND the bridle, so it can slide on the bridle, then the triangle will control itself and you’ll always have good tension on both of the legs of it.

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      @@Heretic10001 yes, but I still need the triangle to fit between a specific length, from the body of the tent to the EXISTING stake. Lets just say 8 inches for ease. So I have a very particular total length that I can make the triangle in order to still have room for adjustment in this pre determined 8 inches. Seeing as I personally can not account for how much line each of the bowline knots attaching the line to the body, "not the bridal" I can not simply cut a pre determined length of cord, and still hope that when the bridal finds equilibrium within the random length of cord that I have cut, that it will still grant me enough room for adjustment in that 8 inch span. (if I could put the stake wherever I wanted, what your saying would work perfectly and only take minutes to complete). So if I can only have a specific length triangle "lets say 4 in for the bottom, halfway to the stake, and the length form one loop on the tent body to the other is 3in. Then the top of the triangle can only be 5in order to reach equilibrium. and since I don't know how much extra I will need to account for that top not, I must hold the linloc in place so i can get the length of the top of the triangle insuring i don't pass my "4 inches" on the bottom. Yes at this point i could still just run the line through the lineloc but if i still have to do all of the other steps why not just secure it in place properly while im at it. All that takes is a loop, and now the lineloc is secure and will work as intended rather than bing pulled at an angle from only being attached to the guy line by a 2mm cord which will will find its way to one corner of the 1/2 channel and pull it at an angle.

    Love the modification. One question: why did you not modify the guyline at the head-end of the tent with an adjuster? I know it ought to ride low, but I’ve often had to stake it pretty far out during a muggy storm or when two people are in it. I’ve also been wondering about adding guy lines on the foot side, on the attachment lines halfway up the tent. Those points are often where I find the fly touching the inner (and sharing condensation). Do you have the same problem and have you thought of a solution? I was thinking instead of staking each out to the side, I would join two guylined together toward the back and stake out toward the back, making a giant “Y” staked out 2-3’ past the tent. Excessive, but I would only use for storms.

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      Kim D it May be excessive but if it’s what you need it’s what you need haha. I have not found any need for the adjuster on the head end of the fly. I only ever used the tent in the backcountry after I made my adjustments to the fly so they may have eliminated the need? I’m not sure. I have also found that since I can pull my fly taught from any reasonable pitch that even in a long lasting heavy rain and hail (colorado lol) I did not experience sagging. At least not enough to even get close to the big net.

  • @BeenWeldin
    @BeenWeldin 5 років тому +2

    Great video... I have a question, if you untied the bowline knot on the foot guy lines to make it shorter why couldn't you just let some slack off the upper line and pull it out a bit since it's only larks headed on the line lock 3 connector? Maybe I'm missing a step or something. Seems if you just make a 1 foot loop hooked (throwing a # out) on both sides you could just adjust the length with the line lock 3 larks head? Just getting ready to do mine wanted to make sure.

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      you could definitely do that. It would have the same effect. However i was working within tight perimeters to be able to still have enough slack to tighten so I chose to shorten the lower over lengthening the upper, if that makes sense. Beautiful workshop!
    Thanks for the video. I'm always making modifications to my equipment and I've been thinking about getting a BA Tiger Wall UL2.
    Now, if you can figure out a way to stop the rain fly's zipper from catching in the rain flap? 😉👍

      Miya Hosaka Lol I’m glad you got it all worked out. Wait until you set it up in the backcountry and they there’s a heavy rainstorm and all you do is wake up and say “hmm, it’s raining...” roll over and go back to sleep without a worry! Lol that was me on the Colorado trail 3 nights in a row lol

    How many did you use between the body and fly? Did you not require them on your footprint?

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      So with this being a semi free standing tent, the head of the tent has its own support and tensioning system. Same with the center of the foot. However the corners of the foot have to be guyed out so there are two on the body there. Then 2 on the fly in the same place as the body, then one for each set of vestibule doors. The ones with the hooks. The ground sheet didn’t need any because you can just stake it out taught before you put up the tent and the adjustable guy pines will reach the stakes easy. Then you just pull the taught. Looks like a mess but it’s really smooth and easy

    Thanks! Really like your review of the BA Tiger Wall vs Duplex and I am now one step closer to deciding on the BA Tiger Wall....have you looked at the drop x-mid 1P tent? Just curious as to what you think about that tent compared to this one.

      Lilly Lo I have not looked at that shelter Before. I sadly have been out of the game for over a year so I’m probably waaaaaaaaaaay behind on the newer gear updates by now lol.

      Lilly Lo oooohhh I do remember this shelter. I considered this one very strongly but at the time when I bought my duplex they were very hard to get ahold of from mass drop. They look like they have a really awesome design.

    Any reason you went for the Tiger wall rather than the Fly creek?

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  5 років тому

      Sam Pese dual side entry doors and dual vestibules for when my son comes with me. I’m not a fan of the front entry shelters, just a personal preference. I here the fly creek is an awesome tent.

    This is such a great and helpful video. I'm interested in making these mods to my tent as well. Quick question: the link you provided to the lineloc 3 is not working. I'm curious, is the lineloc you used this: zpacks.com/products/lineloc-v-guy-line-adjuster? Thanks in advance!

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      Lori King hello. I hope these work well for you. These are not the ones I used because they didn’t have them back then haha but I think they are a good option as you can use a thinner line.

    Bought the 1.3 mm line the link takes you to and is too small. Ordering the 2.0 mm now

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  3 роки тому

      My apologies for the confusion. There is a note directly below the link explaining that the link defaults to the 1.3 and that you have to select the 2mm before purchasing as their website listing has a single listing with multiple options.

    Is the replacement cord you are using, thicker than that which came on the Big Agnes? How did you decide which mm size cord to buy?

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  2 роки тому

      Much thicker. I just used the required line thickness from the Line loc 3s. They sell both on z packs website. My links are old though I don’t think they work anymore

    thanks for the excellent tutorial man. i have a question abt the size of the guy line, do u think i cud go with a 1.3 mm or 1.2mm? or wud it be too slim?

    • @AhonuiOutdoors
      @AhonuiOutdoors  9 місяців тому

      You could absolutely go with that line. Just make sure your adjusters are sized to match and your ready to roll
