Nice analysis. A little tip to keep VIP up-to-date on your own is to use Keyboard Maestro software to automatically walkthrough all new plug-in presets and automatically add them to VIP. That’s my workaround to AKAI’s decision not to map out new plugins.

Yeah this was amazing. Owned Komplete and barely used the feature, now I'm changing everything.

thank you for posting this video. i know not many ppl are looking for this info but this could help save people a lot of money and headache like me if i had just seen a video like this before i even got involved with VIP

In several ways, VIP is so much better than Komplete Kontrol for my use!
I'm still hoping for VIP 4!
I've tried everything but haven't found anything comparable. However, I also think the preview function in Komplete Kontrol is very good. But maybe soon there will only be one company left anyway: NI...

Great post I know how you feel about Akai but I believe in them long term. Well at least the idea of them. I think if us as users come to the table with wants they will help support.

Hi ... thanks for a good video. I purchased the same Akai Advance 61 that you bought. I purchased it primarily to get the VIP software. I agree that Akai dropped the ball by not keeping VIP up to date. The Native Instruments summer sale is going on right now and I am thinking about getting Komplete 13. I look forward to future videos from you.

Great Bill! I'm hoping NI doesn't stop supporting my A61 series keyboard, but they certainly seem more reliable in the long term than Akai does. K13 is a great bundle, even got some new kits and patches in Massive and Battery thanks to all the expansion packs.

@@NeelModi_dotcom I have an old keyboard that I can use as a midi keyboard controller so I am thinking about getting Komplete bundled with the Mashine Mikro. I’m 72 and don’t really do any beat making. 😉 but I think the Mikro will give me a little control variety compared to getting Komplete bundled with a keyboard controller.

Great video, thanks. I won't buy a Komplete Kontrol keyboard because the KK software is so awful. I had a KKS61 MK2 and dumped it after a few months because of the software. The fixed sized window, not saving my view settings between sessions, not allowing Users to tag or add VSTs not natively supported with NKS. The way the KK app keeps resizing itself to the size of the plugin drives me crazy and it often leaves the name of only 3 or 4 patches visible. This is all basic stuff that NI should have fixed by now. Its about 4 years ago i tried KK and thought "this is bad, they need to fix it." Four years later it is still awful with none of those things fixed. VIP was (and still is) great, just wish Akai would pick it up again. Its such a great tool.

Thanks Andy, and I agree with everything you point out. I just invested too much into NI sounds, and given that AKAI has surely abandoned VIP, I learned to live with the shortcomings of KK. I wouldn't call it "awful" anyway - it works well enough for me.

Have any of you tried out Big Tick's Zen? the predecessor of VIP? I was always intrigued by it, but I have never decided to invest the time needed to figure it out.

I believe I came across it recently, but same, didn't care to really give it a go since I was already knee-deep in KK and happy with it.

This is sad news. Was about to buy an Akai Advance 49. Does it work just as well without the VIP software ? At controlling other VST ?
The Kontrol S49 Keyboards seem to have quality issues ! ? ! And also it seems to have problems with other plugins, except for the NKS plugins. Is this correct ?

DO not buy this controller or get involved with is. akai whored out the few of us who bought it and then took the money and ran. they stopped any support and frankly it could have been an amazing product and give NI a run for their money but they wouldnt stick with it and work out the kinks. seriously they just act like it never even existed and try to distance themselves as much as possible. its difficult to even find a copy and download VIP as i did recently. i understand your comment is 6 mon ths old but hopefully this comment helps someone NOT to buy this. I serouisly do not like to buy anything akai after this ecxperience. its a solid controller the software could be amazing if it workedl ike it was supposewd to

I'm invested in the Kontakt sounds and I hate the fact that I cannot use the features on my AKAI Advance 49 with Kontakt, I have to use VIP which hasn't been updated in a while.

VIP should have been used on all the Akai keyboards 🤦🏾‍♂️ and mpc’s .. Sold my mpc touch because it forced me to have mpc beats open just to use it right in flstudio… I don’t like having two DAWs open at the same time.

It's sad Akai not only stopped making maps but took away user forum where maps were shared. If they had kept that going it would be more usable

    • @NeelModi_dotcom
      @NeelModi_dotcom  3 роки тому

Right, I forgot about the user maps area. I think I found a map for NI's Analog Dreams last year, maybe that was a user made one, because Akai seemed to stop at Komplete 10 (in 2015?), and Analog Dreams was a freebie from NI in March 2020.

I am a human that wants to have fun. Here is a scenario I envision. Three people. An electronic drum kit and two MIDI controller keyboards on separate stands.
One human plays the drums triggering a software virtual instrument. Each of the two keyboard players play virtual instruments all from the same laptop. The keyboard players are able to choose their keyboards sound and effects from their controller.
In 2023 it seems like this might be possible. Logic Pro finally allows MIDI controllers to be selected as the input on a track. Computers should be fast enough to have three instances of software virtual instruments playing at low latency.
Apparently NI Control can only have one patch selecting keyboard at a time. You have to switch between multiple keyboards. Somewhat workable.
Can you sense my sarcasm and frustration. Otherwise the person in front of the laptop has to select the sounds for each keyboard. I don't think Roland TD3 kits can select toon track drum kits lol.
Can you do this? Finally treating a laptop like a multitimbral hardware sound module.
