- Rehearsal performance of the Sept. 30 performance of Saturday Night Live.
Musicians: Steve Jordan - drums, Charlie Drayton - bass, Frank Sampedro - guitar, Neil Young - guitar.
I do not own any copyrights to this music or performance.
I have lived this. Brings tears to my eyes.
Neil Young is a natural born talented musician. He's my all-time favorite singer songwriter and producer of the finest music ever.
Wow that was eerily fabulous.
That's it that's what I was looking for thank you
Freedom is a really good album. People never seemed to give it a chance, but there are alot of real gems on there.
This album sold well and sort of put Neil back in the public's eye. You are right, it's a very good album.
One of the very best live performances on SNL. He is one in a million and always has crazy horse and other top shelf musicians. On top of the music food chain
Hard to believe that was thirty years ago . Neil is timeless
Indeed. One of my favourite people.
One of the best!
Genius!
One of his best ever bands. Steve Jordan, Charlie Drayton and Poncho Sampedro. Should’ve done an album and tour together. Lightning in a bottle here.
I read in an interview with Pancho that they got a lot of stuff recorded in the preceding week of rehearsals
Neil Young is so emotional ❤
Neil Young is a unique song writer. He has his own sound. No one else can sound like Neil Young no matter how hard they try. He's authentic - just himself. A great musician.
I've seen the needle and the damage done now there's 7years clean time
Glad you made it out ❤
Thank you for this Greg. Love Neil, yet had not seen this...Live SNL Neil 1989 No More, fantastic, Freedom album is classic had not seen.Still playing 78 years old ...Peace Love Y'all
Neil Young is one crazy white bad man! Genius!
I didn't know he was white.
Actually he's Canadian
Me at my friend : There's a guy named Young he plays every type of instrument.
My friend : bro i bet it's crap
Me : Shows him this great live performance
My friend :
Love it when that happens.
Wow, No More really stands out. The Lyrics!
The guitar that Neil plays at the very end is shivering.
I've loved Neil Young from the beginning, but to hear this out under the stars with the Joshua Trees surrounding you is the ultimate for me. what a perfect backbeat to the wide open cosmos.
This a song I didn't hear until this week and it is 30 years old. I have made it a point to learn the parts with the intention of recording it... The chords are pretty simple with just a few little rubs, but very very heavy when put with the lyric... The first line of the song is pure Neil 'genius' ..... "Living on the edge of night, you know the sun don't go down slow".... In other worlds if you are an addict and you even think you are close to the edge, you are on the edge and the end comes very fast... In that singular moment you move yourself into the finite realm (death)...... Steve Jordan and Charlie Drayton are the best rhythm section alive today!!!!!!
Neil Young is the best Songwriter, Musician and I honestly adore this Man!
Thank you Greg!!
You're welcome!
No more is such a sonically beautiful song
Thanks image looked for a long time to find this ROM 1989 live thanks no more *John
I'm
This is "Charley" Drayton on bass; his grandfather was Charles "Charlie" Drayton, a jazz bassist.
Cool, thanks for the info.
Fantastic
No More and El Dorado are the best tracks on Freedom. Freedom and Ragged Glory came out one and two years before the Seattle movement. Neil came out 30 years before the Seattle movement.
Great live rock performance.
Bass and drums are popping. Those rim shots !
Excellent songs-writers-singer-musicians-well done=R.I.P everyone who died from drugs & everyone who passed away-Trinity bless everyone with good safe healthy days
No better version of No More exists.
Hi just have to say again I love this version and hard to find! I have it on vhs somewhere thanks man! *john
What an excellent tone
What happened to the actual live performance? It was on youtube years ago and as good as this is, it was even better. Will never forget it, somehow cuts all his strings after the last chord. Amazing
I think the live show was Rocking in the Free World. And yes, strings were sacrificed.
steve jordan is the man...
and Charley Drayton... They could switch insturments and vibe like this..... Exceptional rhythm section playes... I have seen Charlie play drums for Doyle Bramhall and he is very bad ass on drums.... Pocket Pocket Pocket... Gibson Jam Nashville Tennessee 2009

I watched this live and to your point…
(And before reading your comment)
I always could’ve sworn that they in fact had switched places for no more during the actual live aired performance?
I could be imagining it.
Also Needle might have been before Rocking in the free world live?
(Less confident on that one)
The GOAT!
Livin' on the edge of night
You know the sun won't go down slow
You don't know which drug is right
Can't decide which way you wanna go
I feel the way you feel
'Cause not so long ago
It had a hold on me
I couldn't let it go
It wouldn't set me free
It wouldn't set me free
No more, no more, no more
Seemed like the easy thing
To let it go for one more day
Like singin' the same old song
And twistin' the words
In a different way
Where did the magic go
I searched high and low
I can't find it no more
I can't get it back
I can't find it no more
I can't find it no more
No more, no more, no more, no more
Searchin' for quality
Havin' to have the very best
Now scroungin' for quantity
Never havin' time
To do the test
That's how the story goes
Can't put it down
'Til the last page
I can't put it down
I can't put it down
I can't put it down
I saw this 20 years ago on tv, when I just started playing music. Thank you so so so much!
What I meant is that I've been looking for probably 10 years or so
I was 15 when this played. And it's been sense it took me to appreciate something this good . When I see it!!!
And was say Bruce Willis hosting?
@@michaelelbert5798same, I was 15 as well and this is still my favorite Neil Young song as a result of this amazing performance (and powerful song)
I hope no one remasters this. The poor VHS quality is really fitting.
Old memories
BIG Thanks Greg!
Neil rocks ! 🎸🎵🎵🎵🎵😎😀👍👍👍
How do I Love thee ??? Let me count the ways !!! The best ever ,,, especially playing with crazy horse
EPIC
See him on tour soon . Make the pilgrimage.
I've seen him 4 times over the years. Never disappoints.
Awesome
Du grand très grand Neil Young 👍👍✌✌
Wow
I went out and bought the cd the next day.
Wow.
My cat died on the day . Sept 30. 1989. I stayed up to watch this show and it reminds me of that day
As a cat lover and owner I know how that can be a sad time.
Name of cat?
@@DSilvergun Judy . She was a beautiful tabby
My BD is September 30th and i love cats. I have a 15 year-old tabby 'Sunny, hope he lives forever, sorry for your loss.
👏👏👏🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
I'm not a fan of "Stand Old" politics but I love his music.
I know of these performancences but don't understand why they are labeled as rehearsals.
Say what you want about his politics he's a 🐐. His lyrics will scar you with honesty, and make you cry at the same time. I love Joe Rogan but he's not a 🐐.
Yep you and joe just keep peggin away .. butt you know stay safe K
rogan makes people eat bugs and worms. Neil makes music.
I just like subjects in songs he writes. Funny for a Canadian to really get the feel of the American soul. And he's the same now as he was back then.
Neil follows the science
The best live from neal young videotape for history
"Milk blood to keep from running out . . ."
Meaning: People who mainline drugs will push the syringe's plunger in and out of their veins multiple times in order to "milk" the rush.
This isn't my personal experience, but I've heard the tales from loved ones, all of whom are gone now.
The only guy wo can make a 6 string sound like a 12!!!
Looks like weir around the same time, if he was a junkie
Was he boning Hannah yet.... or just thinking about it?
No. His other brother Daryl.
talk about rare footage. this IS the rehearsal, the actual performance was even better
Yes, would love to find that
