- Some Georgia civil rights groups say the state's new election laws are similar to "Jim Crow" laws, and they are more about voter suppression.
Governor Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 202, which makes sweeping changes to early and mail-in voting, absentee ballots, food and water in voting lines, and the state election board's ability to take over any underperforming election office. The bill also removes the Secretary of State from the election board.
Melanie Campbell the President and CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation spoke with Roland Martin about the ongoing vicious assault on voting rights.

Black voters all over the country need to understand why this is happening. 2014 Justice John Robert's gutted the 1963 Voting Rights Act because we dared to vote for a Black man twice as president. Previously, these states had to get approval from the DOJ before passing new voting laws.

What should "No State shall MAKE or ENFORCE any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States" (14th Amendment, Sec. 1 of the US Constitution) mean to us if not every non-white US Citizen has the Constitutional right to vote?
Always double check to make sure you are on the rolls long before and shortly before an election to be sure you are on the rolls. And your party hasn’t been charged unknowingly.

In case you're wondering, I have a friend in ATL. When he lived in a white area, the polling places were literally empty, said he could go during lunch, walk right in, vote and walk right back out. When he moved to a black area, he had to take the day off, because it took him 6 hours to cast his vote. He has his own business, meaning, he could take the day off. How many people have this privilege? black or white?
Same with mail drop off boxes. They reduced the number of the drop off boxes. How do they expect the elderly to vote when they have to drive further out to drop off their ballot?
This is vote suppression, plain and simple.

@zaidarivas7152 right now I'm in stone mountain, about 20 minutes away from atlanta. A few years ago I was in Atlanta. This has been my experience for 20 years, since I was 18. The longest I ever stood in line was about 5 hours for Obama. I always ask the poll workers, they tell me people trickle in and out through out the day

It was also ALL over the news showing how long the lines were in the black communities. People were holding space in the lines while others took a break. So it is very common in Atlanta. I been here my whole life and everybody I know across metro atlanta don't have long wait times. Henry County, Dekalb County, clayton county and Fulton County. I don't vote early because I know when I go Election day I'm gon be in and out with no problems, me and my wife. I was shocked to here about people needing water because I never see this.

I live in Georgia I’m African-American. I’ve never had a problem voting. Get off your butt and go vote. Just like when I lived in Illinois.
" You", is the operative term. Luckily they cannot prevent everyone black from voting, but it doesn't mean that they're not trying to. When I moved to Georgia, I had to apply three times before they approved of my application and sent me my voters registration. And unlike normal States, you had to have your birth certificate, marriage and divorce decrees, for each marriage and divorce, if more than once. Thank goodness you didn't have any problems, but don't try to put the difficulty on the perspective voters.
