Must be the most dramatic episode of the era. Gripping! And some brilliant acting all round - Margot Bryant excelled, as did Bernard Youens.
Wonderful acting, also a lovely view of the street from the corner shop and the camera pans along as the policeman walks along with the police dog, then it continues to pan along to the crowd gathered out the Rovers, the brick built outdoor set may not have been built to the size of real houses (note the bay windows aren't very wide), but it has always remained my favourite outdoor set, it looks as if it was built a while ago, it has that real 'lived in' look (no pun intended), and the gap in the row (with the park bench in the gap) makes the street more unique. Some superb acting from Margot Bryant (Minnie Caldwell), who was so opposite in reality to her street character!! and Bobby (Minnie's cat) "my Bobby" is a joy to, Margot Bryant was a great animal lover in real life and 'Bobby' is clearly happy being held by Margot Bryant. These are the days when soaps were wonderful programmes, loved soaps back then.
A very suspenseful and well acted episode - the American was very good and great to see another side to Minnie who shone. Wow - Belfast gets a mention too. Bobby must be the most placid well behaved cat in history.
Ever see The Thinderbirds are Go? Bills one of the Tracys.
Thunderbirds
14:12: Beautiful Bobby the cat meowing really tears my heart out.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
I never knew this about Stan, I took the piss out of his character for being lazy in later life.
He was a hero.
There is a hero in every body. But it comes out only in a few.
Thank you for up loading 🙏
Minnie Caldwell in tears broke my heart.
The late Shane Rimmer will always be remembered as the voice of Scott Tracy in the original Thunderbirds. He also appeared in 3 James Bond films, one of those was 'You Only Live Twice'. This was writer John Finch' final credited episode. He would go on to created the forgotten TV dramas, 'A Family At War' and 'Sam'.
Thank you so much for uploading these. I haven't stopped watching them - even on the treadmill at the gym! But one thing that shocks me is how big Minnie's cat was. It's the size of a fox! She's very cute!
louise owusu I love Minnie and bobby! So cute! My tiger is that big lol xxx
Stunning episode.
always thought this was the best episode.
Wow Go Stan he was a total hero
Margot Bryant is a revelation. Tears and everything.
If that nutter touches a hair on the cat, I'll be writing a letter of complaint.
I never knew Stan Ogden was a hero.
Your not the only one to think that.
Remember, he was a desert rat and could boast his service was far important than any sniveling Yank based in the UK in the 70's.
I didn't know one of the Tracy clan from the Thunderbirds was in this. But there's no mistaking Bill's voice lol
Hilda describing her twin is funny
Loved Irma she was a brilliant actress she lived in my home town 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow! Get Stan!
Always felt sorry for Stan
When Coronation St. was good!
I was born this day
These temporary American characters in the show gave the show a brief Dallas feel.
and all 4, including Steve Tanner back in 1967, were played by Canadians. LOL.
Thank you very much for uploading these treats.
No George Medal for Stan?
Does the heroism of working class people count for nothing?
Read: Roy Larner.
I knew what was going to happen but I was still tence! Pat phelan has never made me feal so tence
I was shocked to read about the characters of Stan and Hilda today on Google, it says their kids were taken off them by social services because Stan was violent!
I've read this several times as well, and in all honesty I find it so hard to swallow. Stan comes across as the least violent man on the street, especially towards women. And they do talk to Irma about her childhood a lot, so I'm wondering if someone just made this up as a background story rather than it being in any of the scripts. I also read that they had 4 kids, but Irma and Trevor are the only ones ever mentioned from this time onwards. Although I do remember some time in the 60s Hilda was talking about her Freda working in the pub, but Corrie does that a lot with changing the names of characters who didn't feature regularly. An example of it is Ivy Tilsley who had a husband called Jack, but when they became regular cast members her husband was called Bert.
@@gilliangrant8764 Although Stan did throw into a rage at Hilda in January 1966, and she had a bruise due to it.
When you see the episode that David and Imran was in accident in Coronation Street and you see the emotion on both the Ogden's, you see they both have love for their kids.
@@gilliangrant8764Freda was Irma, she was in the street working behind the bar first. She said she'd rather be known as Irma. Trevor however remains an enigma, mentioned but never seen.
Wonder how this would play out in today’s Corrie?
hilda describes a woman as the one with the big fat husband who wears curlers all the time
it's that herself she's describing
I thought that-but she probably can’t see it. Mind you, Stan isn’t that fat yet-even though Joe seemed to think he was!
Love you coronation street 1 fan ❤ micheál
Gary the Yank. Straight out of central casting. 😉
Shane Rimmer... legendary!
this was a nail biter!
Her what wears curlers all the time. You hypocrite Hilda!😂
"with the fat husband..."
That cat is a big fella
That was an anti-climax. What happened to Joe and why didn't Hilda freak out when she saw Stan?
The gunshot was Joe killing himself, and Hilda was probably too relieved it wasn’t Stan he’d killed to ‘freak out’.
@@alexanderjones9572 yeah i know but the plot line was weak.
@@alexanderjones9572 Thank you, I did wonder what had actually happened, wasn't sure if Stan shot him to get out
Who’s this Steve they all keep talking about?
Alison Grace Elsie’s husband think he was one of the Americans. He was murdered
He was Elsie Tanner's 2nd husband. He was called TANNER so they didnt have to change Elsie's iconic name when they married. They were not married long, and had already seperated when he was murdered by Joe.
You have to go back a couple of seasons ago. Another army guy from the USA 🇺🇸
So, it took 2 years for the killer to be caught...
Viewers complain these days if they're not caught within 2 "weeks"!
Ha he knoe by lights turn of know anyway
Sorry, but these yanks episodes lack credibility mainly because their acting is painful! Love Irma, but I must say even she doesn't come across at her best. Similar expressions on her face throughout and certainly not enough fear! Sorry!!
How is this episode black and white when Ive seen episodes from 1969 in colour?
