Shine the Light on Sickle Cell Disease

Commemorating World Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Day, the Sickle Cell Disease Program at the American University of Beirut Medical Center held the yearly “Shine the Light on Sickle Cell Disease” event on the evening of June 19, 2023. College Hall was lit up in red in the presence of AUB president, Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri; dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Raymond Sawaya; medical center director, Mr. Joseph Otayek; the caretaker minister of Public Health, Dr. Firass Abiad; members of parliament, members of the National Committee on SCD; director of the SCD Program, Dr. Miguel R. Abboud; and president of the SCD Fund, Mrs. Marwa Khouzami Awad, and members of the fund. The awareness video produced by Mrs. Chahinaz Abdalallah Bohsali and MTV was launched during the event which was presented by Ms. Rolla Safa. Patients and families united embracing a shared sense of hope and compassion. Together, we radiate light, empowering one another to overcome challenges and advocate for a brighter future.
