That finish was absolutely correct! Given the tradeoffs you're going to make with any bone conduction headphones are severe enough that it makes sense to get a cheaper product to test waters. The more expensive system will have about the same thing just made a bit better but it cannot change the physics so there are still some serious limitations compared to many other headphone technologies.
Bone conduction will never be for hifi audio, but they are great for podcasts and videos where the content is more important the sound quality. This makes expensive bone conduction unnecessary, since the cheap pair fills the niche just fine. When you want quality audio switch to regular closed headphones or just use speakers. Bone conduction is for safety not quality.
I own the same R9. I actually ranted in my product review, giving the seller a 1-star rating. I didn’t return the item because of the hassle. After using them for the first 48-72hrs after buying, I kinda actually think it just serves its purpose. I can hear music while not being deaf to the environmental sounds. It is actually better when used for calls, because it is a lot louder compared to listening to media/music or video. For the price, it serves its purpose without breaking the bank. I still have Aeropex in my online cart, but after watching this video, I think R9 is a good buy for casual use.
I have the same R9 model and they worked well enough for me. The sound does bleed out quite a bit when you turn up the volume so I don't think it's suitable to use on train because you'll annoy passenger around you. So if you're using it on public, you have to turn down the volume and wear the ear plugs. For me it's great when I'm gaming, I can use it for sound que during grinding for levels while listening to podcasts or music play from my music player at the same time
I’ve had cheaper and expensive. If you are a sound snob and really want to listen to the music get the expensive ones. If you just Want an open ear headset that you can used to listen to a podcast or talk on the phone while you’re cycling or driving get the cheap ones.

I use Bone Condition headphones to listen to podcasts on the bike, and around the house for that matter. Infact, watched this video with them. I started with a 30 quid pair from Amazon which worked fine for 5 months till the Bluetooth became intermittent, then stopped working altogether. The company replaced them no question which was good, but the new ones only lasted 2 months till the main control button stopped working. I got a refund for those and bought a pair of Trekz titanium, the cheapest set that Tekz make for 70 quid. These feel better made, have a better sound, better battery life and have lasted 8 months or so so far without a hiccup. I believe the Aeropex are lighter and fully waterproof, but the Titanium's are fine for what I want. I would add another benefit of these compared to some others is the ability to pause playback instantly, which is very useful at times.
I had a buddy of mine, who has cochlear damage, try on bone conduction headphones, and he was still unable to hear. I have recently read that bone conduction does work well for those with eardrum issues, as it bypasses the outer- and middle-ear processes.

I did the same comparison. Bought the Aeropex first and then the cheaper alternative. Aeropex all the way for me. Superior comfort, sound, battery ... Just superior in every way. The most expensive headphones are the ones that you buy and then do not use. The Aeropex have been a great value.
Wondering how much bone conduction the R9's are actually doing... They are so big they are almost more in your ear than in front of it by the looks of it. Plus, there are also cheaper models of Aftershokz.
have been using aeropex daily for the last 9 months and prefer them over any other brand, yes you pay more but that is more then offset by the quality and also being waterproof allows me to wear them in the rain as I work outside for a large majority of my time. they also come with a 2 year warantee if you register online(no questions asked)
Personally I don’t understand when people review them and see that the sound quality is not as good as a cheap in ear headphones. Compared to my old Sony earbuds these are immaculate and 100 times better.
The R9 model is water resistant for sweat and rain. They are not water proof for submersion in water or for wearing while swimming. Some of the R9 cheaper competitors also have the 2 year warranty.

I purchased the Aeropex after reading a good review. Not knowing much about these size wise, they were way too big. Returned them and was told there will be an Aeropex Mini coming out in the spring, well do to the COVID virus they decided not to release them. I have been waiting too long now so I will be going with another type of headphone. Very disappointed!
Been using trekz titanium for years. Music is good and has surround sound which is suprising, bass is like 6.5/10 but when they virbrate on the ears it feels pretty good,kinda like bass. they do have a loud windy sound when your riding real fast so i just hang em on my neck when it annoys me. I'll upgrade to a newer model if it breaks. I suggest the trekz air since its almost the same as the aeropecs but cheaper just 1 more is waterproof than the other. I ride mine on heavy rains so i trust the air can handle it too.

I have owned 3 pairs of @aftershokz, but this was not due to them having great sound (which they do) it’s because of a list of faults. The rubber kept pealing away from the plastic! The company were great at replacing, and each time they did it’s was with the latest version. My latest pair have just snapped near speaker. Not sure how, but they are out of warranty so I need to see if glue will work to fix them. In my conclusion, a great idea with a lot of pluses, but durability is not one of them!
Same here durability is not great. I've had two break on me after a little over a year each. Aftershokz replaced my first one and not the second one as I as past the warranty
I guess it's worth thinking about how well both manufacturers treat their staff, how they deal with the environmental side of their business and what their customer support is like. If Aeropex are open about these issues, then perhaps this is a price worth paying the extra money for. Cheap stuff, just because it's cheap can have a horrific impact on both the environment and the staff in the supply chain.
Probably a.sweet. spot is somewhere between the two prices. Look at tv's even the bigger name brands are very cheap these days. I think inpart its automation a sheer volumes.
You are also paying for cost of living which varies between countries and cities..etc. So a chinese brand could give their staff a same standard of living by making product less expensive than american brand since cost of living is more expensive in america. If you truly wanted to know you are puting $ in fair trade thered have to be way more transparency.
I bought a cheap pair first, they broke too easily, not the electronics but the physical plastic. Making them useless, then I bumped up to Trek Titanium. I use them because of conductive hearing loss and need these headphones to hear. Regular headphones do not work. If you use them often even when sleeping I recommend a higher quality pair than the cheaper ones.
More money doesn't always mean better.. I've had these destek true wireless headphones.. 8 hr playtime and passive noise cancelling and supports qi wireless charging.. great budget headphones for bout $60
I had an R9, which I bought for ~ $20. The quality was good enough for podcasts while I walk my dog so I can hear outside sounds. It was doing well until I dropped it and something came loose inside. I then bought a Z8 Pro, also for about $20, which has been going strong and working flawlessly for almost 3 years of daily use. I love them. I compared the Z8 to a Shokz Aeropex display model at Sam's Club. The Shokz are lighter, and a bit more comfortable. The sound quality for music and leakage is somewhat better with the Shokz, but as I listen to podcasts, the Z8's are plenty good. For 1 Aeropex, I can get 6 or 7 Z8 Pro's, so if ithe Z8 breaks after a year or so, I can just get another one.
I have the R9 for 2 years. They do go loud. You turn up the volume all the way on your phone and then turn down the volume on the R9. There is bit of base if you have atmos on your Samsung phone. I have Samsung Galaxy a7 2018.
Some individuals who may suffer from a partial hearing loss, due to ear drum damage, may actually hear better with bone conduction headphones, since they bypass the ear drum. I found that my right ear canal is normal, but the left is smaller, like that of a 4 year old little girl. Traditional ear buds constantly fall out of my ears and any extended wear irritates and makes that ear quite sore. Bone conductive headphones have been great.
I'd got myself a usd20 BC, cant use it after only 3months before it stop functioning. No warranty, so that was it. i immediately ordered Shokz OpenMove. Price difference is huge, but at least i don't have to worry about warranty for the next 2 years
I just tried a cheaper pair called Tayogo - a third of the price of the Aftershokz Titanium. The Aftershokz was better. Many cheaper models now claim to be waterproof too...Thanks
Reading multiple reviews, Shokz may be an interesting product, but manufacturer does not help customer with warranty issues. When a Chinese manufacturer sales a product for $125+ And manufactured for $5 there is a problem. Got the x14 instead for $35. They fit and sound great!
As you can tell from models and every day people that try these on they’re not technically on your temples and there is venting which allows sound to be aimed towards your ear holes.

Comparing a $30 product with a $150 product, of course, a $150 product would be better. When you compare a $100 product with a $150 product, you will find almost no difference. Taking the Wissonly Hi Runner ($90) and Shokz Openrun Pro ($150) in my hand as examples, they are similar in terms of sound quality, sound leakage reduction, wearing comfort, and battery capacity. The waterproof grade, Hi Runner is better, and it also has MP3 mode, while Openrun Pro does not have.
Stil not getting why so many call these bone conducting headphones..the explanation is great about what bone conducting transactions mean. However as unfortunately as my first experience with aftershokz headphones..they more seem like "next to your earcanal bleeding sounds". From my perspective true bone conducting should mean as if there was no contact with the jawbones, you wouldn't hear sounds.. however the aftershokz just bleed music as well when closely holding them next to your ear..so I rather call it a open ear designed micro loudspeaker jammed on a neckband. With poor sound and mediocre battery life for its price point. That's said their safety is they're USP.
I’ve used my aeropex for a little over a year now for work, I’m an ambulette driver and these things are amazing because I can drive, listen to music and hear my customer in the back at the same time. I originally had the titanium and one of the headphones I stepped on by accident so I return it for a refund and ask if I could pay the difference for the aeropex and they did no questioned asked.
I have been lent some Aftershock Titanium's and was given a cheap pair like the R9's. When riding the aftershocks get no wind ruffle whereas the R9's had such back wind ruffle that I could not hear the directions from my Hammerhead Karoo. I will never use the R9's again but will certainly look at getting my own aftershocks.
Thanks for a very helpful review. I have decided to go for the Aeropex. However, I have two questions. I wear prescription glasses like yourself. Do you find wearing glasses at the same time as Aeropex comfortable? Also, does the Aeropex multipoint feature connect with and transition between Apple iPhone/iPad and Windows PC(zoom/teams calls)?
One thing that the R9 have over the other ones is it uses USB-C charging instead of a proprietary charging plug. To find some bone conduction headphones that sound good that use USB-C is the perfect solution and they're hopefully out there. I was wondering if I could find some bone conduction PC headphones because there are times I'm playing when we're together and I have to wear one headphone off my ear to hear them which sucks.
the proprietary plugs are for waterproofing reasons: you can fully waterproof a USB-C port easily enough, but the distance between contacts means it's easy to short and damage them if they get used when wet. the magnetic chargers use more widely spaced contacts which stops that from happening
@@roadcc Ok you did say propietary lead which at the time I didn't think because when I think of a lead I think of EKG or EEG machines. I've always heard them as magnetic charging connectors or contacts. It makes sense now.
i have both and like the air better. much farther bluetooth connection or stability at distance, lightly better sound to me, the eartips part doesnt rattle in a cheap way when touched. wondering if these aeropex i have are fake somehow but dont think so.
The problem with aftershoks is that they don't last. I've gone through two pair already in less than a year. You would think for $160 they would be better constructed.

I have the aftershoks Titanium & Bluez2 and i have always found them a little uncomfortable to wear for long periods if you wear glasses and having a trying to wear them with a helmet makes it even more uncomfortable because the headphones dont sit in a comfortable position with everything on.
Smartphones with micro-USB port and USB-C port have been made fully water proof. You really don't need any proprietary connector for waterproofing electronics. For example, even Samsung S7 from year 2016 used microUSB port and was IP68 rated (up to 1.5 meters under the water for 30 minutes).
not entirely true: the ports *are* waterproof but the close proximity and small size of the contacts leads to corrosion and shorting if they get damp, hence the proprietary connections.

I have been using aeropex for 2 years now... (on my second now after the 1st just stopped working... lemme not side step further) the mic is in my opinion it's worst feature...on both sets I have used and the titanium prior the mic is faint... almost like you are far from the mic...and you have to speak up... better performance in a small quiet room than out and about.
Would like to ask for your help: I am playing in a combo but cannot hear well the voice of the band leader/teacher. Therefore he is using a microphone + sender (Roger) around his neck and I have a receiver (Roger) around my neck and would like to connect this receiver to a bone conducting headphone which has a jack so that I can connect it to the receiver. The aim is to hear the voice of the band leader while other sounds are tempered (via the special microphone (Roger) I already bought. And I can hear the other musicians playing as well as myself via normal free ears. The Roger devices do NOT work with bluetooth, but with frequencies (the microphone and sender are wireless). I thus need the possibility to be able to use a jack cable to connect my voice receiver with the bone conducting headphones (which I would like to buy). Thank you to let me know which model bone conductor headphone I need to buy for this situation, if possible. Many thanks
I've been strapping my UE Megaboom 2 to a cargo rack attached to where a bottle cage goes (Blackburn makes it, it's great). Has several advantages over headphones. Pedestrians know I'm coming, I can still hear cars around me, it sounds great, and best of all it makes a lot of people I go past smile, and the kids seem to like it too. Top tip, don't play music with swearing in it!
How is the windnoise when you use them on a racing bike. That is my main reason to buy this. Because of the bigger outside part there is more noise or not?
It doesn't mean better performance. My 30 dollar wired headset I got from amazon from a company in China is much better at removing keyboard clicks then OpenComm. I'm returning the OpenComm. I wish money meant better engineering, but that is not the case. Flaw is probably the boom is too short and the pick up hole for sound is in the wrong place. It faces the keyboard so that's not a good idea.
The cheap knockoffs on Amazon are great for price, but given the likelihood it's stolen technology, I'm just not comfortable making the purchase. Your mileage may vary.
Got a point there. However there are other more original Chinese brands(they sell other things) that sell for a little more, and they have more original designs, or it just looks like they have put some effort into being more unique.
I have some hearing loss...esp higher frequency and want to try Shokz rather than a hearing aid for conversation. Do I have to use my phone and blue tooth with a Shokz to hear a conversation or can I use it by itself? Thanks. I hope to wait until they combine Gen 9 technology with the 16 hour battery on a unit. I can't hear cars behind me with or without earphones due to wind and air noise anyway 🤷♂️ So why bother... Vision should be the only sense you trust on the bike. Just look back, don't trust your ears. I saw that ending badly. You're not a bat.

@Michal Wozniak You sound like a man that needs a Garmin Varia. It will BT warning to a headset , via watch or bike computer. Mirror supplement and doesn't replace eyes. Life saver.

I have both of them. My wife decided to steal aftershokz and I would say you will get exactly what you will pay for. Really hard to say. If you wanna really good quality go for aftershokz otherwise cheap one might do their job too
Simon Bradley yep - I only listen to podcasts and sport on them and they work really well. You need to get used to some wind noise, but that’s the pay off for having your ears open and you can still hear clearly on all but the fastest descent
Bone conduction is pretty trash for music, if you can afford paying 150 usd just to have some noise in ear i guess its worth it, for more frugal people i don't think it's a good choice.
You can also get yourself a JBL Flip 4 and stuff it in your bottle cage (fits perfectly). Sure, you're being a giant ass to everybody who's out trying to enjoy nature, but the sound quality is really good 😅
Look for wireless sports earphones that (they would have a mode to activate) allow outside sound in. Usually there will be a microphone on each side that transfers the sounds in. When you are in your room or whatever, you just disable that feature that lets the sounds around you in. Oh, make sure they are the type that go around your neck, and/or hook around you ear. I would advise (after using them for years) avoiding all these Bone Conducting earphones. I rarely use mine now. Thanks for the review. I have a pair of R9's that I've used daily for 10 months without any issues. I use them primarily for listening to talk radio. They pair fast, and they've never lost connection. Battery life is decent. I charge them weekly. They're noticeably heavier than the Aftershokz Titanium that I compared at Sam's Club, but still fairly lightweight. Overall, I'm pleased with them. The one negative is that there is little warning before the battery goes dead.
As a cycling website, if you're going for a swim while on the bike then things have got very out of hand 😅Considering something like swimming is not part of our testing structure

@@jakelondon Aftershokz by Trek Titanium are more durable and Ic an wear them when I go to bed and they are not broken when I wake up. I am deaf and need this product to hear devices. Regular headphones do not work. Others who use them lightly can get away with the cheaper ones, I had cheaper ones at first but they kept breaking due to wearing them in my sleep. I need to hear noise to sleep because the silence of being deaf drives me nuts in bed.
The bone conduction thing is bullshit. They produce sound the same way. Otherwise(atleast with how its explained) if held away from the head you would not hear anything. But you fully do

I had a buddy of mine, who has cochlear damage, try on bone conduction headphones, and he was still unable to hear. I have recently read that bone conduction does work well for those with eardrum issues, as it bypasses the outer- and middle-ear processes.

Aeropex all the way for me. Superior comfort, sound, battery ... Just superior in every way.
The most expensive headphones are the ones that you buy and then do not use. The Aeropex have been a great value.
Wondering how much bone conduction the R9's are actually doing... They are so big they are almost more in your ear than in front of it by the looks of it. Plus, there are also cheaper models of Aftershokz.
have been using aeropex daily for the last 9 months and prefer them over any other brand, yes you pay more but that is more then offset by the quality and also being waterproof allows me to wear them in the rain as I work outside for a large majority of my time. they also come with a 2 year warantee if you register online(no questions asked)
Personally I don’t understand when people review them and see that the sound quality is not as good as a cheap in ear headphones. Compared to my old Sony earbuds these are immaculate and 100 times better.
The R9 model is water resistant for sweat and rain. They are not water proof for submersion in water or for wearing while swimming. Some of the R9 cheaper competitors also have the 2 year warranty.

I purchased the Aeropex after reading a good review. Not knowing much about these size wise, they were way too big. Returned them and was told there will be an Aeropex Mini coming out in the spring, well do to the COVID virus they decided not to release them. I have been waiting too long now so I will be going with another type of headphone. Very disappointed!

Been using trekz titanium for years. Music is good and has surround sound which is suprising, bass is like 6.5/10 but when they virbrate on the ears it feels pretty good,kinda like bass.
they do have a loud windy sound when your riding real fast so i just hang em on my neck when it annoys me.
I'll upgrade to a newer model if it breaks. I suggest the trekz air since its almost the same as the aeropecs but cheaper just 1 more is waterproof than the other. I ride mine on heavy rains so i trust the air can handle it too.

I bought this pair off of of ebay. I REALLY FREAKEN love them and best part, I only paid 13 bucks. Now, a little about me and my bad hearing. I damaged my ears swimming underwater in contaminated lakes in my teens (not that as kids, we knew it was contaminated). My ears have a lot of scar tissue from failed ear operations years ago. Nothing the docs can do. These cheap bone headphones are freaken amazing. I can hear podcasts ... yep ... and surrounding sounds around me .... like the truck slamming down on my bicycle. I can make out the lyrics to songs I've been listening to my entire life (okay, not Louie Louie) and I was clueless as to what they were saying. I'm ordering a few more pairs ... They're light. I don't even realize I'm walking around with them on. They're comfortable. The button locations absolutely Suk ... but for me, that's the only downside. Oh, I still like my half century collection of expensive headphones.... and I use them when I forget to charge these. Also, I make no money off this ebay link and at 13 dollars, even if i did, it would probably be a penny ! :)

Are they real bone conduction? Some of the cheaper ones have little holes and actually speakers rather than bone conduction transducers.

I have owned 3 pairs of @aftershokz, but this was not due to them having great sound (which they do) it’s because of a list of faults. The rubber kept pealing away from the plastic! The company were great at replacing, and each time they did it’s was with the latest version. My latest pair have just snapped near speaker. Not sure how, but they are out of warranty so I need to see if glue will work to fix them.
In my conclusion, a great idea with a lot of pluses, but durability is not one of them!
Same here durability is not great. I've had two break on me after a little over a year each. Aftershokz replaced my first one and not the second one as I as past the warranty

I guess it's worth thinking about how well both manufacturers treat their staff, how they deal with the environmental side of their business and what their customer support is like. If Aeropex are open about these issues, then perhaps this is a price worth paying the extra money for. Cheap stuff, just because it's cheap can have a horrific impact on both the environment and the staff in the supply chain.
Probably a.sweet. spot is somewhere between the two prices. Look at tv's even the bigger name brands are very cheap these days. I think inpart its automation a sheer volumes.
You are also paying for cost of living which varies between countries and cities..etc. So a chinese brand could give their staff a same standard of living by making product less expensive than american brand since cost of living is more expensive in america. If you truly wanted to know you are puting $ in fair trade thered have to be way more transparency.
I bought a cheap pair first, they broke too easily, not the electronics but the physical plastic. Making them useless, then I bumped up to Trek Titanium. I use them because of conductive hearing loss and need these headphones to hear. Regular headphones do not work. If you use them often even when sleeping I recommend a higher quality pair than the cheaper ones.
I mean if the electronic didn’t break you could have easily diy some better body
I can only DIY that with a headband and its a pain in the butt to do that although it seemed simple when I came up with it.
More money doesn't always mean better.. I've had these destek true wireless headphones.. 8 hr playtime and passive noise cancelling and supports qi wireless charging.. great budget headphones for bout $60

I had an R9, which I bought for ~ $20. The quality was good enough for podcasts while I walk my dog so I can hear outside sounds. It was doing well until I dropped it and something came loose inside. I then bought a Z8 Pro, also for about $20, which has been going strong and working flawlessly for almost 3 years of daily use. I love them. I compared the Z8 to a Shokz Aeropex display model at Sam's Club. The Shokz are lighter, and a bit more comfortable. The sound quality for music and leakage is somewhat better with the Shokz, but as I listen to podcasts, the Z8's are plenty good. For 1 Aeropex, I can get 6 or 7 Z8 Pro's, so if ithe Z8 breaks after a year or so, I can just get another one.
I have the R9 for 2 years. They do go loud. You turn up the volume all the way on your phone and then turn down the volume on the R9. There is bit of base if you have atmos on your Samsung phone. I have Samsung Galaxy a7 2018.

Some individuals who may suffer from a partial hearing loss, due to ear drum damage, may actually hear better with bone conduction headphones, since they bypass the ear drum. I found that my right ear canal is normal, but the left is smaller, like that of a 4 year old little girl. Traditional ear buds constantly fall out of my ears and any extended wear irritates and makes that ear quite sore. Bone conductive headphones have been great.
Do the R9 fare well with the repeated impacts of a jog/run? Or do they come out of place.
I'd got myself a usd20 BC, cant use it after only 3months before it stop functioning. No warranty, so that was it. i immediately ordered Shokz OpenMove. Price difference is huge, but at least i don't have to worry about warranty for the next 2 years

Reading multiple reviews, Shokz may be an interesting product, but manufacturer does not help customer with warranty issues.
When a Chinese manufacturer sales a product for $125+ And manufactured for $5 there is a problem. Got the x14 instead for $35. They fit and sound great!
As you can tell from models and every day people that try these on they’re not technically on your temples and there is venting which allows sound to be aimed towards your ear holes.

Comparing a $30 product with a $150 product, of course, a $150 product would be better. When you compare a $100 product with a $150 product, you will find almost no difference. Taking the Wissonly Hi Runner ($90) and Shokz Openrun Pro ($150) in my hand as examples, they are similar in terms of sound quality, sound leakage reduction, wearing comfort, and battery capacity. The waterproof grade, Hi Runner is better, and it also has MP3 mode, while Openrun Pro does not have.
Stil not getting why so many call these bone conducting headphones..the explanation is great about what bone conducting transactions mean. However as unfortunately as my first experience with aftershokz headphones..they more seem like "next to your earcanal bleeding sounds". From my perspective true bone conducting should mean as if there was no contact with the jawbones, you wouldn't hear sounds.. however the aftershokz just bleed music as well when closely holding them next to your ear..so I rather call it a open ear designed micro loudspeaker jammed on a neckband. With poor sound and mediocre battery life for its price point. That's said their safety is they're USP.
I’ve used my aeropex for a little over a year now for work, I’m an ambulette driver and these things are amazing because I can drive, listen to music and hear my customer in the back at the same time. I originally had the titanium and one of the headphones I stepped on by accident so I return it for a refund and ask if I could pay the difference for the aeropex and they did no questioned asked.
I have been lent some Aftershock Titanium's and was given a cheap pair like the R9's. When riding the aftershocks get no wind ruffle whereas the R9's had such back wind ruffle that I could not hear the directions from my Hammerhead Karoo. I will never use the R9's again but will certainly look at getting my own aftershocks.

The reason to buy them is the swimming capabilities and for very long durations. No other earbuds can survive pool, sea and currents.
How well do they work if you wear glasses?
One thing that the R9 have over the other ones is it uses USB-C charging instead of a proprietary charging plug. To find some bone conduction headphones that sound good that use USB-C is the perfect solution and they're hopefully out there. I was wondering if I could find some bone conduction PC headphones because there are times I'm playing when we're together and I have to wear one headphone off my ear to hear them which sucks.
the proprietary plugs are for waterproofing reasons: you can fully waterproof a USB-C port easily enough, but the distance between contacts means it's easy to short and damage them if they get used when wet. the magnetic chargers use more widely spaced contacts which stops that from happening
@@roadcc Ok you did say propietary lead which at the time I didn't think because when I think of a lead I think of EKG or EEG machines. I've always heard them as magnetic charging connectors or contacts. It makes sense now.

i have both and like the air better. much farther bluetooth connection or stability at distance, lightly better sound to me, the eartips part doesnt rattle in a cheap way when touched. wondering if these aeropex i have are fake somehow but dont think so.
The problem with aftershoks is that they don't last. I've gone through two pair already in less than a year. You would think for $160 they would be better constructed.

I have the aftershoks Titanium & Bluez2 and i have always found them a little uncomfortable to wear for long periods if you wear glasses and having a trying to wear them with a helmet makes it even more uncomfortable because the headphones dont sit in a comfortable position with everything on.

Smartphones with micro-USB port and USB-C port have been made fully water proof. You really don't need any proprietary connector for waterproofing electronics. For example, even Samsung S7 from year 2016 used microUSB port and was IP68 rated (up to 1.5 meters under the water for 30 minutes).
not entirely true: the ports *are* waterproof but the close proximity and small size of the contacts leads to corrosion and shorting if they get damp, hence the proprietary connections.

I have been using aeropex for 2 years now... (on my second now after the 1st just stopped working... lemme not side step further) the mic is in my opinion it's worst feature...on both sets I have used and the titanium prior the mic is faint... almost like you are far from the mic...and you have to speak up... better performance in a small quiet room than out and about.

Would like to ask for your help: I am playing in a combo but cannot hear well the voice of the band leader/teacher. Therefore he is using a microphone + sender (Roger) around his neck and I have a receiver (Roger) around my neck and would like to connect this receiver to a bone conducting headphone which has a jack so that I can connect it to the receiver. The aim is to hear the voice of the band leader while other sounds are tempered (via the special microphone (Roger) I already bought. And I can hear the other musicians playing as well as myself via normal free ears. The Roger devices do NOT work with bluetooth, but with frequencies (the microphone and sender are wireless). I thus need the possibility to be able to use a jack cable to connect my voice receiver with the bone conducting headphones (which I would like to buy). Thank you to let me know which model bone conductor headphone I need to buy for this situation, if possible. Many thanks
I've been strapping my UE Megaboom 2 to a cargo rack attached to where a bottle cage goes (Blackburn makes it, it's great). Has several advantages over headphones. Pedestrians know I'm coming, I can still hear cars around me, it sounds great, and best of all it makes a lot of people I go past smile, and the kids seem to like it too. Top tip, don't play music with swearing in it!

It doesn't mean better performance. My 30 dollar wired headset I got from amazon from a company in China is much better at removing keyboard clicks then OpenComm. I'm returning the OpenComm. I wish money meant better engineering, but that is not the case. Flaw is probably the boom is too short and the pick up hole for sound is in the wrong place. It faces the keyboard so that's not a good idea.

I have some hearing loss...esp higher frequency and want to try Shokz rather than a hearing aid for conversation. Do I have to use my phone and blue tooth with a Shokz to hear a conversation or can I use it by itself? Thanks.

They are not hearing aids. It will have to be connected to a bluetooth source for audio.

Simon Bradley yep - I only listen to podcasts and sport on them and they work really well. You need to get used to some wind noise, but that’s the pay off for having your ears open and you can still hear clearly on all but the fastest descent

Bone conduction is pretty trash for music, if you can afford paying 150 usd just to have some noise in ear i guess its worth it, for more frugal people i don't think it's a good choice.

You can also get yourself a JBL Flip 4 and stuff it in your bottle cage (fits perfectly). Sure, you're being a giant ass to everybody who's out trying to enjoy nature, but the sound quality is really good 😅
Look for wireless sports earphones that (they would have a mode to activate) allow outside sound in. Usually there will be a microphone on each side that transfers the sounds in.
When you are in your room or whatever, you just disable that feature that lets the sounds around you in.
Oh, make sure they are the type that go around your neck, and/or hook around you ear.
I would advise (after using them for years) avoiding all these Bone Conducting earphones. I rarely use mine now. Thanks for the review. I added some further comments as replies below, for those who are interested.

I have a pair of R9's that I've used daily for 10 months without any issues. I use them primarily for listening to talk radio. They pair fast, and they've never lost connection. Battery life is decent. I charge them weekly. They're noticeably heavier than the Aftershokz Titanium that I compared at Sam's Club, but still fairly lightweight. Overall, I'm pleased with them. The one negative is that there is little warning before the battery goes dead.

Regular headphones do not work. Others who use them lightly can get away with the cheaper ones, I had cheaper ones at first but they kept breaking due to wearing them in my sleep. I need to hear noise to sleep because the silence of being deaf drives me nuts in bed.

@@jeranichols2002 how they explain it is incorrect. They work like regular headphones only with open speakers. So yes if you want to hear the music and everything else it works . Kind of. Really only a bit different then having a head set around your neck with the volume high
