I love that you gave a review. To hear you talk about the annoyances of the noise around you and the headphone volume too much/not enough. I dont think other reviews give an honest review in this manner. I dont have a hard time hearing but i dislike the annoyances that come with headphones ie: sweat in ear and the buds falling out, having to keep pulling my ear to push it back in UGGA, not loud enough when driving, JUST NOT LOUD ENOUGH......etc All I care about with a head phone is: ease of wearing and volume when in loud noisy areas. Apparetly I find myself in loud surroundings often when I need blue tooth calling. Thank you for your review
I've been using the SHOKZ OpenRun Pro after Laurens Ten Dam recommended them and I have to admit it's a game changer for me! It's been fantastic for long slow rides to keep me entertained.
Pretty much almost half of road cyclists and runners in my city wears bone conduction headphones. I borrowed two from my friends for running and cycling, Shokz OpenRun and OpenRun Pro. Compared to standard earphone (my AirPods Pro 2 and Bose Soundsport Wireless), the bass response from the bone conduction headphone is lacking. But when I’m running or cycling, sound quality is not a priority. As long as I can hear the songs, it’s alright. This is true for running because of my slower pace. But for cycling at higher speed, just like you said, the sound from headphone is “fighting” with the wind noise going past through my ears and I have to pump the volume to the max. It’s okay for the OpenRun, but for the OpenRun Pro, when I set to the max volume, the vibration of the headphone (because of the claimed better bass response) becomes annoying. So yeah, it is way safer to ride the bike with these bone conduction headphones because you become aware of the outside world, but expect to have compromise in sound quality.
I'm a welder and I use Open Run Pro with my professionnal ear plugs, then I don"t hear the surronding noise and in a factory there's a lot of noise. Thanks for this review
Good review. I'm sticking to Shokz. BTW: I was torn about whether to get my son a set of OpenRuns or OpenRunPros for Christmas. It came down to the following: The Pros have an extra 2 hours or so of battery (10 hours total) and you can set them up via a phone app. The downside is they are less waterproof -- only IP55. The regular OpenRuns are IP67, and provide a real 8 hours of playing time. My son cares less about IP ratings, likes apps and is on his phone all day, so I got him the Pros. I cycle a lot in all weathers so I'll stick to the regular OpenRuns. Cheaper to buy and more waterproof. Cheers

I have had a pair shokz titanium since 2017, they are a little heavier than current models and they use MicroUSB for charging but they are still working fine. I ride mostly trails, when in traffic, I don't listen to anything.
Fun fact, the bone conduction headphone thing has been around for at least 15 years. I know this because I used to do triathlons and they were marketed as something you listen to while doing your swim training. And even back then, they didn't work half bad. So it was really no surprise to me at 7:00 where Jasper says you can use them in the shower. I think that's basically where they originated.
it's like a century or more old. Inventor had a deaf kid and he noticed his kid was squeeling with excitement when he put his teeth on the table that a record player was playing. Using in the shower....do lap swimmers use them? i'm broke and can't afford to try them. maybe should get find a rich divorced woman haha
Such an awesome review and comparison !!! I'm a cyclist and have also had limited success with in-canal headphones. Given how we like stuff to fit a certain way, ie helmet and sunglasses, do the headphones interfere with the sunglasses on your ears ? Also, can you approximate the riding speed at the point where the wind noise becomes too much ? I love to cruise @ 20 mph in an aero position and when my position is right, I hear very little wind noise, so maybe the headphones would be more distracting? That said, I would love to play some death metal on hard interval sets. I suppose since the headphones are so flexible and durable, I could take them off at any time during the ride.
They don’t interfere. If you don’t like the wind noise just pause it and continue when the wind is less. For music it’s not that big issue as for podcasts. Speed… I’d say 35-40km/h it’s windy

I was considering them for listening to radio/podcasts during my commute on a 45km/h speed pedelec bike. But it seems the wind will make it impossible to hear? We bought a pair for my dad, I should try them on my bike before buying a pair myself...
Mmmm I think it will be an issue. Maybe if you have good wind deflectors (it’s a product you clip onto your helmet strap to prevent the windhoos) it would work.
Get some of those cheap foam ear plugs they sell for DIY. They make a huge difference when it's windy. I keep a couple in my bike's top tube bag as a "just in case" option. But I rarely have to use them Cheers

Thanks for the review Jasper, I have been considering these. Did you mention battery life on the units? If so I missed it! Be interested to know how long you are listening between charges. Thanks!
Didn’t mention it. It’s about 8 hours for the Haylou and shokz. They charge in 15 minutes to a 2 hour battery life and in 2 hours to 100%. I was impressed by it. More info on battery life is available on the products websites of course
What about the length of each headband? Which one is the longest? I've tried 2 cheap pairs from Amazon that were too short. That caused the conductors to sit at an odd angle or. Ot in the right spot for optimal performance.
Hi, Is there any set that can b used for swimming that can b play forward and rewind on the same track ? I cant understand why they dont bring that function
The safety aspect could’ve been reviewed a bit more thoroughly. I also own a Shokz and benefited greatly by hearing around me. I do not look for audiophile’s quality when riding.
I use shokz but concur that it is hard to hear with lots on outside noise and you can't turn them up enough. They are almost useless for indoor riding with fans so I use airpods with noise cancelling.
I am at my second shokz device having failed both of them after 15 months. Would not recommend the product until they have resolved there reliability issue. I love the bone conduction though. Has anyone tested the H2O tri?
Of course there is wind noise. Your ears are open! Put ear plugs in your ear and see if you can still hear the wind noise, but it defeats the purpose of this device, no?
the reason is because you might want to chat to someone while cycling. one doesnt always push ones heart while cycling. some people commute on it. or do it for fun. earbuds that work in the wind enble that usecase. wired ones work. freebuds pro 3 apparently is good enough. @@jasperverkuijl
That doesn't sound convincing for windy conditions. And when cycling with a little wind, there is always a lot of wind noise in your ears. I used to wear these street style (named by Sony) headphones. Those were small on ear headphones, with a neckband too. The pro was: they covered your ears, so the wind wouldn't get to your ears, but they didn't close your ears off from the world. They actually got the wind out of your ears and let music in instead. And because they had a neckband, they were perfect to combine with a helmet and sunglasses or normal glasses. If you want to know what I mean: it's the MDR-G series. But they have been discontinued for quite some time now. Not sure whether there was ever a version with bluetooth. Most of them were wired. They should bring out something like that for cyclists now.
How well do the LinkBuds work for allowing in outside sounds? I know Shokz have a purpose and a compromise with sound quality. However the sound quality is so terrible, that it annoys and distracts me. I have Sennheiser Momentum 3 TWS buds which sound amazing but are bad for cycling as the transparency mode amplifies wind. I have not found a solution I am happy with.
@@jasperverkuijl they are TWS launched by SONY middle of 2022. They have a donut design which allow noise from surrounding to reach inside our ear. Sound quality is very good
Ive had 4 pairs of aftershockz , 2 pairs of wired headphones and 2 pairs of bluetooth wireless and they have all been pretty much bombproof. My bluetooth ones have about 5 years of use on them and charge via microusb. I'm not a fan of proprietary cables even if I like the magnetic cables since I use similar break away cables for the phone. Only function issue was my model had some problems with the outer coating which came off after 6 months of daily use and storage in my car (didn't affect function in wet weather). My only other major gripe with shockz is how they have started cheaping out with their storage systems. My wired sets came with very nice hard cases, the Bluetooth pair came with a soft zipper pouch (which is functional even if it doesn't have protection) and now it just looks like a cheap storage bag. #lame for what you're paying for IMO.
Sounds like good experience👌🏻 Yeah the shokz open run pro comes with a very nice hard case actually👌🏻 (but it’s a bit more expensive and less waterproof)
Same for me. I love my OpenRuns, but the coating on the transducers came off. The dealer gave me a new set as a warranty replacement, no questions asked, but the coating fell off them also. It hasn't affected the sound or the waterproofing as far as I can tell though.
I'm surprised how unpopulair smooth neckband headphones are with cyclist. To me it's the superior design. -A smooth shell acualy reduces wind noise, I keep mine on even if not in mood for entertainment. -they combine great with a helmnet -better sound then all other options, unless you don't mind full studio headphones. -if you get one with a cable they're light (more comfort) When senheiser announced the end of production for the pmx60 I bought 2 spares, now I regret not buying 10.
Cyclist here. Used to ride 200-250 miles per week. I don't agree listening to music while riding; your ears are your primary protection against cars. Your helmet mirror is second, but your ears are always "ON."

Also she appreciates and feels way more secure listening to her surroundings. She's still using her Aftershokz and even being emulated by her family, friends and entourage. Lol
But I rarely have to use them
Cheers
Thanks for the review. I’m cycling to work daily within the city… not very fast… takes me an almost hour for 13 km… but I do have the problem with wind… do you use any wind blocking stuff on the helmet? Like windblox or something? What do you think about those?
No I don’t use them because I think they look ridiculous…. But they probably work yes.
The bone conduction in combination with those wind blockers would probably work perfect!
@@jasperverkuijl I just got my Haylou on Friday. And it works wonders even without the wind blockers… part of the decision made for haylou came from your video. Thanks man! Have a good one!
@@elboon_80 awesome man. Thank for letting me know 👍🏻👍🏻
Looks really good, especially because In-Ears with cable at the back seem to die out. Did any model stand out in terms of battery run time? When you don‘t want to use them any more, can you make them small enough to fit in your back pockets?
Yes they fit your back pocket. (On the ride in Valencia I had 1 in my back pocket yhe whole time.
I didn’t test exact battery times…
@@jasperverkuijl A local shop had a good deal on the Shokz. I find the sound quality better than expected. Glad they are not bulkier, it‘s close with the sunglasses and the helmet straps.
I got the aftershock. 😁
The one that they say that looks like an animal. The only animal I can think of is a seahorse.
Yeah what does a seahorse shape has to do with a headphone?🤷🏼♂️😂😂
@@jasperverkuijl 16:53 It looks like a seahorse when you keep it on its side and you put the earpiece pointing upwards. Seahorse you know what one is? Use your imagination goddamn it!! 🤣
@@HarryTzianakisTheGodOfSpeed yes I get the whole seahorse thing man…. I just don’t know why a headphone should look like a seahorse. That’s what I meant
@@jasperverkuijl ok I see 🤣 👍
Thanks for the review Jasper, I have been considering these.
@@jasperverkuijl thanks Jasper! Was interested in your experience, rather than what is “claimed” on the manufacturer’s web site or box! Cheers! 😉
What about the length of each headband? Which one is the longest? I've tried 2 cheap pairs from Amazon that were too short. That caused the conductors to sit at an odd angle or. Ot in the right spot for optimal performance.
Don’t know. Think they have large and small options at shokz
bwst call quality is apparentlu huawei freebuds pro 3 as of 2024. any ideas?
As a pilot, which is best to use in the cockpit?
None haha. To much noise 😂😂
Hi, Is there any set that can b used for swimming that can b play forward and rewind on the same track ? I cant understand why they dont bring that function
No idea tbh
The safety aspect could’ve been reviewed a bit more thoroughly. I also own a Shokz and benefited greatly by hearing around me. I do not look for audiophile’s quality when riding.
I think I’ve mentioned that very clearly in the beginning???
I use shokz but concur that it is hard to hear with lots on outside noise and you can't turn them up enough. They are almost useless for indoor riding with fans so I use airpods with noise cancelling.
Ive used them on the indoor trainer and it worked fine. Guess depends on your trainer and fan 🤷🏼♂️
I am at my second shokz device having failed both of them after 15 months. Would not recommend the product until they have resolved there reliability issue.
I love the bone conduction though. Has anyone tested the H2O tri?
Guess it’s within warranty so at least you get a new one?
@@jasperverkuijl first failure yes, second no

Altijd!🤪🫣
what mic. did you use throughout
No mic. Just the camera
I was just about to buy a pair, but the wind noise thing is definitely a no
Of course there is wind noise. Your ears are open! Put ear plugs in your ear and see if you can still hear the wind noise, but it defeats the purpose of this device, no?
Mate!!!
What's up!
Where's the new video?
Hope you are well.
🤙🏼👍🏼
Dropped today!
Are these legal in spain? Normal hedphones are not white riding bike-I got a 100E ticket last year:/
There is nothing in your ears right? So it’s more like a headband 🤪
and call quality while cycling?
There is lot of wind noise. But why call why cycling anyway. I tried. Not really any purpose to it imo
the reason is because you might want to chat to someone while cycling. one doesnt always push ones heart while cycling. some people commute on it. or do it for fun. earbuds that work in the wind enble that usecase. wired ones work. freebuds pro 3 apparently is good enough.
They should bring out something like that for cyclists now.
how to change Chinese to English language for Haylou?
Probably somewhere in the manual ?
Hi, does a person sitting next to you hear what you're listening to? On a medium volume?
If it's like a library only very slightly. In the real world not really
On medium volume, No. on max volume only when it’s quit en you are very close.
Are they still comfortable after a long ride? No irritation?
I got the shokz pro and I dont even really feel wearing them
Yes very comfy like I mention in the video it’s one of the main reasons I use it.
Sony linkbuds changed the game for me, much more comfortable compared to bone conduction headphones
Never heard of that. Wat is it?
How well do the LinkBuds work for allowing in outside sounds? I know Shokz have a purpose and a compromise with sound quality. However the sound quality is so terrible, that it annoys and distracts me. I have Sennheiser Momentum 3 TWS buds which sound amazing but are bad for cycling as the transparency mode amplifies wind. I have not found a solution I am happy with.
@@jasperverkuijl they are TWS launched by SONY middle of 2022. They have a donut design which allow noise from surrounding to reach inside our ear. Sound quality is very good
@@ABHORRANCE831 They are really great sounding and surrounding can be heard clearly. It true unadulterated 'transparency mode'.
How does windnoise appear with them?
wearing a then bandana or head band over your ear cuts out the wind noise
Yeah I do that in winter because it’s cold but not in summer 🤷🏼♂️😅
@@jasperverkuijl have you seen a product called Airstream Cat Ears? Looks like elvis side burns and cuts out wind noise 😂
@@robbo3132 I’m usually a believer of function over form but there are limits 😂😂
@@jasperverkuijl 😂👍
Good real world review. 🤘🏻 got a pair, but think I'll be getting a refund.
Why? I use them all the time
Ive had 4 pairs of aftershockz , 2 pairs of wired headphones and 2 pairs of bluetooth wireless and they have all been pretty much bombproof.
Sounds like good experience👌🏻
Yeah the shokz open run pro comes with a very nice hard case actually👌🏻 (but it’s a bit more expensive and less waterproof)
Same for me. I love my OpenRuns, but the coating on the transducers came off.
The dealer gave me a new set as a warranty replacement, no questions asked, but the coating fell off them also.
It hasn't affected the sound or the waterproofing as far as I can tell though.
Dankjewel
Definitely game changer in cyclists life.

Easy to keep contact with discorg between road Captains in club rides
And fun with music
Thanks.

J’en ai un casque comme sa c’est top
I'm surprised how unpopulair smooth neckband headphones are with cyclist. To me it's the superior design.
-A smooth shell acualy reduces wind noise, I keep mine on even if not in mood for entertainment.
-they combine great with a helmnet
-better sound then all other options, unless you don't mind full studio headphones.
-if you get one with a cable they're light (more comfort)
When senheiser announced the end of production for the pmx60 I bought 2 spares, now I regret not buying 10.

Of course there is wind noise. Your ears are OPEN. Still not convinced? Put ear plugs in your ears and see if you can hear the wind noise. 😅😅😅
But the thing is OPEN EAR….. with plugs your ears are not open 🤪
Cyclist here. Used to ride 200-250 miles per week. I don't agree listening to music while riding; your ears are your primary protection against cars. Your helmet mirror is second, but your ears are always "ON."
Helmet mirror? I never see anyone with that 🤷🏼♂️
So what I said, you can still hear cars coming with this headphones because your ears are open
use head phones while riding if your crazy.
This doesn’t need a 20min video….yes they are.
you’re welcome
