      I'll tell you what I mean. When I pay someone to show me around, I expect them to speak in a language we both understand or translate the speech of others. When I go to dinner with large groups (3 or 4 people, typically at my expense), I expect them to communicate in a language we all understand if they are able. This is not too much to ask. It's actually basic manners and hospitality.

The Buzio have different levels of tenderness, I myself like it to be on the softer side as well, most of the times I ask if they make it that way, it’s not standardized yet(tenderness varies by restaurants) ps: Add a bit of hot sauce you’ll be in paradise. It’s meant to be cooked with solely its marine flavor to transmit the elements of the ocean: water and salt. In terms of the drinks that you saw in Carla’s house, most of them seemed to be ponche. We collect a lot of our national drinks, some times they seat there for generations and only open them in special occasions.

    I have had African girlfriends, I can tell you that many African men insist on speaking their language deliberately not just to exclude foreigners but also to berate African women from being with foreigners... yet African men consider it a status symbol to be with western women. Of the African women I have been with in this situation only one, a woman from Rwanda stood up to the men, kept speaking English, and told them to go mind their own business. It's very likely your 'guide' also considers himself to be your self -appointed chaperone because many African men know that African women behave quite differently toward 'foreign' men when there are no African (local to them) men around. Not all African men are like this, but enough of them are to make socialising a tense situation for African women. The fact that your skin colour is the same does not mean to them what it seems to mean to you, they still see you as a foreigner, of course the difference is that from a distance they can't tell that you are a foreigner so easily.
    Racism is colour blind, it can affect anyone of any ethnic background and it exists all over the world especially in areas where there is a lower standard of living and education.

      @@s1rmunchalot Fascinating insights. Thanks

    • @WillieFungo
      @WillieFungo  23 дні тому

      I've also noticed that African men will only introduce foreigners to local women if there is a financial incentive-- ie visa seekers and sex workers. They will very rarely introduce foreigners to quality, normal women in the society
      To be fair, I'm sure similar dynamics exist in Europe, Asia or anywhere else. What surprises me is how it transcends skin color.

    • @s1rmunchalot
      @s1rmunchalot 23 дні тому

      @@WillieFungo Yes, it is less about skin colour than ethnicity and social status. There is a difference between the perception of hospitality and social acceptance, they tend to think in terms of extended familial groups - they call each other 'brother' and 'sister', older women are Momma. A stranger is just a distant relative you haven't met yet. Being unhospitable is considered rude and low class. They will smile, offer food, help you find things and places but they guard the women they might have a potential interest in... again as you say.. this isn't limited to African men. My wife is a Filipina, it's very similar in the Philippines. In western mentality you marry a woman, outside of the west you are marrying the family.
      In the west people are concerned with propriety and outward respectability, African men don't care if the women sneak off for some 'fun time' as long as they are discreet, they do care who a girl might bring back to the family, very much so.

    The video is nice but your argument about people speaking a different language you don't understand is not necessary. And come on! Shocking: Inside Tarrafal, Cape Verde in 2024? you are being dramatic.

    Péssimo guia, péssimo. Vocês nem foram a Ponta de Atum e nem visitaram o lugar onde os surfistas fazem artes tradicionais. Esperava mais desse vídeo

    You make great content however you have a penchant of talking negative about Africans. When you go to Russia or France do you ask them to speak English. You ain’t no boss to dictate what people should say and the language they speak.

      @@chrisb4629 If i have a tour guide, i will absolutely expect him to speak English or translate, otherwise im exiting the situation. You don't even understand the point im making, so save the lectures.

    It is our responsibility to speak a/our common tongue. Embarrassingly, English (and specific our European ones) are tarnished colonial/imperial language.
