I remember when the Saturday market was where we would go and just spend the day "mooching", go for a tea and cake at "the Baked Potato", and then home on the bus.....the 80s there were wonderful.
OLD STATION RD ,, THE RITZ CINEMA, WHERE I SAW THE BEATLES AND T REX THEN ACROSS THE ROAD THE WIGAN CASINO WHERE I SAW JIMMY RUFFIN THE TAMS THE ELGINS, AND A BAND CALLED THE SYMBOLS ,,,,WHO YOU MAY SAY, IT WAS AN AMERICAN BAND FRONTED BY NEIL YOUNG,, WOW WHAT DAYS WERE THEY,,
@@damstv8717 After WW2 up-to-date maps were needed and in Manchester the survey started in 1946. A network of centimetre accurate points was required that could be found again when a map was revised. Their position was recorded by these photographs which show a field labourer pointing to the exact spot with an arrow. The surveyors were behind the camera.
Before the place had character, I remember nearly all the pictures, now soulless town with little heart.
Your not wrong Peter putin is destroying Ukraine and wigan Council are doing the same

Absolute dump.
I preferred every one of the older photos and the times back then for what is now...
All done by design, take the soul and character of the town, you take the passion and will of the people who live there.
Absolutely true 👍
Drill hall Powell street
Happy days
Total utter dump.
