    Kudos for turning off noise reduction! The temporal filtering created lots of artifacts in the past.
    Also would love to know if you could test the dynamic range of the S1H using the new -1 noise reduction setting which basically turns off the nasty temporal filtering as well.
    Would love to see, what its real dynamic range is. :)

    I love how compact the ZCam is. I love the locking EF mount, great for cine lenses that rigged out with Cmotion or other focus gear controls. Also, ZCam has interchangeable lens mounts, there should be a non-locking option; there's an ND filter option too. I believe every lens mount option is being developed, either by ZCam or 3rd party manufacturers, including RF & e mounts.
    One great thing about ZCam, is they listen to feedback and make changes.
    I don't think ZRaw is finished yet; if they stick to their plan, it'll be like RED Code or BRaw.
    The ProRes looks great; I'm not sure why ProRes Raw cannot be recorded internally, maybe this will be worked out too. I would prefer BRaw over ProRes Raw, but again, would prefer BRaw recorded internally, than use a BlackMagic Assist recorder.
    Just wanted to get ahead of this, ZCam is not a competitor of the Sony a7siii; two different cameras for different purposes. ZCams do compete with BlackMagic, RED Komodo, Kinefinity, etc.
    I wish higher end ZCams had SDI ports. Also, a battery plate optional accessory, like RED, Kinefinity, Sony, Canon, etc would be a great addition; sometimes you need many SDI & HDMI, Vmount/Gold mount with multiple Dtaps, etc, and sometimes you need a stripped down version for gimbal, or low-profile filming.
    I love how you can control the camera with your phone, I wish more cameras had this feature.
    Thanks for comparing to Pocket6k, for context of tests.
    ZCam has the most potential for a mini cine camera that competes with $50k cameras and they are willing to change to get there; this is what is so exciting.

    Thank you so much Dr. Machu! The locking EF mount is worth it alone in my opinion. The movement in the non-locking EF mount due to the torque of pulling focus is a very large annoyance to me. I understand companies can cut down on cost and the convenience of more quickly being able to swap a lens on a DSLR is there, but this is a dedicated cinema camera. Blackmagic Design if you're listening: Please release a locking EF mount for the URSA MINI Pro!

    Interesting results. I've used the F6 for about a month now and find it very enjoyable personally. I find the color science and image to be the closest thing to Arri on a budget. It's not an Alexa of course, I'm not saying that, but it is very good and there are similarities in how colors and contrast are rendered.
    The DR being far under the claimed 15 stops is interesting, though. I'd love to see a test of the S6 as well.

    wow that is some pretty stable handheld shooting! Did you apply stabilisation in post? I thought that the Sony A7S3 was expensive but compared to this it’s a lot more affordable especially s te z cam needs a lot of kit to lake it useful like grip, monitor etc

    one thing I'd like to see is overexposure. On my sonly fs700 it's good practice to overexpose by 1 or 2 stops most of the time. I wonder if that technique was used with the z-cam if it would perform well when brought down in post (as I do with the sony) and you have all your information there looking great.

    You have more latitude with braw, it's native to grade in resolve, cost less and it has a built in touch screen you can actually see. The only thing the zcam has over blackmagic is the box style. I hope blackmagic releases a box camera, but I can live without it.

    I think there will be improvements on ZCam F6. ISO 100 will come. I think the P6 and F6 have different ISO methods: the 6k has 2 fixed analogue gain chains, and changing ISO works like CineEI: Base ISO (analog) stays at the same sensitivity, by changing ISO in camera you darken or lighten your picture like a Look-up Table, and then change your exposure with the lens, while DR stays the same. ISO 100=picture dark=you let in more light=you lift your shadows from the bottom=better SNR in the shadows and less stops in highlights=clipping. With higher iso the other way round. ZCam uses analog gain all the way and has a fixed zlog curve, shooting in lowlight is really good, you can use ISO 20.000 and it will look good. And now the problem: if you take the exact same lens and leave the t-stop where it is, you will see the P6 in general will be darker, it will need more light (1-1,5 stops) From my understanding the P6k has really low analog ISO gaining in the first chain. If ZCam releases the new firmware with 100 ISO, this should be exactly those stops needs to get cleaner blacks. Also zlog-curve compresses Information below middle grey too much to fast for my taste. Reminds me of slog2 and slog3. Maybe the firmware will lead to better results.

    Helpful review! Still can't decide between A7siii and this one - as a run'n'gun one-man operator I love IBIS with my vintage Contax and Leica glass... straight apple pro res and from all the samples I have seen, very tempting to try this though. How easy is the switch from full frame to super 35 during shooting? And/or is there anything like Sony's clear image zoom function?

    • @sompongviengvilai
      @sompongviengvilai 4 роки тому

      Gunther Machu I’ve seen a test where the f6 was compared to the arri which has a true 14 stops. They weren’t that far off in dynamic range. That’s why I would say the f6 has a true 13 stops. Ive own and shot withe the p4 and the p6. Now I own the s6 and I see the difference in quality and dynamic range. If you would’ve exposed for highlights and forgot about those two bars in the shadows you would get 13 stops. The highlights wouldn’t clip.

    You're comparing a raw output from BMPCC 6k to a non-raw output from the Z Cam. Of course the BMPCC RAW has more latitude. Try comparing Z-Raw with BRaw next time.

    My take on your review - other then the full frame sensor and the high frame rates, the BlackMagic 6k offers more features, including solid RAW options, better quality footage at half the price. So unless fullframe or 4k high framerate are a must - I see nothing attractive about this camera.

The BMPCC 6K sensor has better color science, dynamic range and it's RAW mode is also of a log kind, as opposed to linear one that the Z-Cam can output. Dear Helmuth, BRAW is the only way to get the sensor native 6k resolution with BMPCC6k to enable a fair comparison to the 6k ProRes files of the F6 and examine the noise. ProRes on the BMPCC6k is 4K scaled from 6K and thus less noisy.

    • @hbohlee
      @hbohlee 4 роки тому +1

      @@MrGuMac If the comparison were image resolution, it could agree with you, but what was compared was the ability to recover in low light areas (to determine the DR, which is rare), and there the important thing is the number of bits and the amount of information available per pixel. that is, if it is 10 or 12 bits, and if the format is prores or braw. regards!
