@@mellyq92 Sadly I think it's psychologically a lot more complicated than not wanting to change. A mutually toxic relationship can still damage someone's self-esteem, traumatize them, and even leave them with complex PTSD. Eg. stuff that makes change mentally MUCH more difficult. I know abuse survivors [including myself] who went through severe anxiety and depression trying to separate from their former abusers. Stuff ranging from complex PTSD symptoms and outright anxiety attacks, down to little crap like a lingering inability to get the same unhealthy neurochemical high from a partner who DOESN'T routinely mistreat you. I don't know how much those trauma symptoms change just because both partners are being foolish.
It isn't a friend's job to dig a friend out of that rut. That's a job for a professional and they maintain professional boundaries for reasons; it would be an impossible emotional labor, even for a trained professional, to talk a personal friend out of a mindset that deeply troubled.

Ok pro tip, this is not a joke: If you are in a relationship, and you need to tell your significant other something, or you find something out, and literally the first thought that pops into your head is "man how do I say this so she/he doesn't get mad at me" you need to reconsider your relationship. This is like abusive relationships 101, you should not be afraid of your partners reactions at all times that's not healthy.

    • @night0wl684
      @night0wl684 2 роки тому +206

I totally agree on the "not get mad at me" part because if you have to actively worry about your partner being mad at you then there is a problem with the relationship, but not so much with the "not freak out" though. Like, you can be in a healthy relationship and not know how your partner will handle some upsetting news or how to tell them in the way that will make it easiest for them to process. You just specifically shouldn't be scared that their reaction will negatively affect you (appart from genuine empathy and you feeling like shit because you see them feeling like shit).

I can only agree. I read the books and when it came to the scene with Steph I was disgusted and angry! The topics of sexual assault are never handled with the certain respect they need. It’s always how their sexual assault causes the MAN in their life to suffer! It’s never about the victims!
Also: the fact that Tessa was drugged and sexual assaulted is a less traumatic expierence for Hardin than Tessa mumbling Zed name in her sleep! I despise the author for all of this so much!

Bulgaria, for example, has open plains, dense forests, frozen mountains, and dark swamps. You can film so many different types of movies just using the natural landscape. You also have a very strong mix of new and old architecture, making for great material for historical films, assuming Hollywood even knows what that is anymore. @@AmandaTheJedi Well, I can say this movie gives me hope. Hope, that i can find Good writers around the world and produce different languages films with Good intent and passion. I really wanted to start by finding good writers and approach them to make their screenplays into movies with me so that audience and critics can see them and appreciate them. My first and foremost idea with getting funds for making the movies actually came from Coen brothers. They made their first movie by creating a two and half minute video pitch and showed it to people home to home, so that they can earn the funds for the movie. I had a different spin on it. I wanted to release three minute pitches on youtube for short films to earn money for the budget and trust from the audience. Then, the screenplay will be criticised by a certain group of individuals without any bias and with honesty to figure out problems in it. After it's done, the filming would begin for the short film. After it's been made, then it will be shown in theatres for a maximum of 5 days in some selected theatres to audiences, and later would be released to youtube freely.
There are many writers around the world who want their stories to be seen, original or may be different, but if done right, it can help approach new foundation to cinemas. I want to go from making short films slowly to making feature films. It's a part of growing up.
The Last duel was released in theatres a few weeks ago. I was excited not because it has great stars in it, but because it was the return of a great filmmaker to his form, Ridley Scott. I heard it got great positive reviews and was something new amidst this franchise bonanza. Then, i was horrified to learn it failed in box office. It didn't make enough money to break through. The marketing and controversy that it is a misogynistic hollywood agenda failed it hard. It was not that at all. It's a great movie. But it became a box office bomb. This just gives opportunity to big studios for churning out more remakes, sequels and reboots instead of different and something original, even adaptations. And it makes me scared for that part alone. I really want to support new filmmakers with creative vision and ideas to make movies that they want to and i have always loved films with heart. But this........this is just sad.

And the dark Fantasy I want to write that I've been working on and off again for years isn't really inspired by anything because of the world building I did over the last decade.
*However* I know that a lot of fanfic styles of world building passive writing (I also try to avoid the passive voice and the purple prose so common in romance novels *and* fic, but sometimes you just have to set the scene without action stringing you along) can get lost in its own… thing. Like I have a fic I've written mostly for myself that has a plot, but also has "plot," and because of the nature of me wanting to actually see what happens, I'm still coming back to it. And it too is also very different from the source material but I feel like filing off its serial numbers if/when I finish it, is disingenuous because I'm quite happy to leave that one fic alone and leave it attached to the source material-at least in my head.
Another one I've put on mental hiatus (I've never published these anywhere) is one that is so far removed from the source material that it very easily could function, on its own, as a good "coming into adulthood" story (you know, college life, figuring out who you are, who you're attracted to, why, what it's like to have friends who are now back in school after enlisting in the military and the PTSD from being injured, etc.) but I don't have a proper plot because I suuuuck at Modern stories about just people being people. That and I'm trying to avoid the regular Modern and/or Modern Romance (romance is a focus of the story but not the only focus so it's not really a "romance novel/fic") tropes that happen for plot points because the whole point is that "yeah, we might be 21 or 25 but that doesn't mean we know what we're doing just because we're in Uni or because we're over the age of 18."
But yes! You're right! A lot of tropes and styles are in perfectly acceptable novels, just the wheel spinning or focusing on one scene for far too long, for /the drama/ that FanFic tends to have is something I try to avoid.

Honestly, I actually think fanfiction is a great way to practice, experiment and learn with your writing. It's actually a good way to hone your skills- find out what works and what doesn't and get feedback without the expectation of it being perfect or the fear of serious judgement. It's great!
It's just that, due to this, fanfics often aren't as polished as other books and so sometimes don't translate as well when publishers pick them up, tarring the whole genre in an unfortunate brush that it really doesn't deserve.

    • @Crisjola
      @Crisjola 2 роки тому +1

@@izzisart oh I totally agree! I think that if someone (author or editor) took a fic they had "scrubbed the serial numbers off of" that was a drastically different AU and dramatically made it their own thing (essentially my original story/world that has the basic plot of LotR with "stop the evil king and fix the world", and/or characters that started out as fic OCs but got brought into my original world that I compiled as a historian-yes I *am* that kind of nerd xD) the way (as problematic as it was with some of the romance) The Mortal Instruments series is then there's a lot less issue in terms of filing off those serial numbers.
Just if the editor or author doesn't want to change much, and also doesn't have the understanding that some writing tropes within fanfic don't translate well and sometimes you do need a thesaurus for the myriad of ways someone can smile (listen writing Hazbin Hotel fic with Alastor has been an exercise in my understanding exactly how many ways you can describe/using words for "grinning").
Also as a writer, I don't publish (mostly because of incessant writer's block eventually hampering down my plot/ability to not wander in circles) my fic anywhere. I think I have two song fics on a long dead FF dot net account. And this is less out of fear of judgment (I really don't care if someone hates my AU/interpretation of a character) and more out of fear of being found out as a fanfic author in general. Even if the fics I do have (such as the aforementioned Hazbin Hotel story) would never even be *able* to have their serial numbers filed off. And some I wouldn't want to even if they're such an AU that it doesn't matter because it is it's own story.
The originating source is only important in this one fic's case because it cuts out some character background stuff (it's FMA based) but is a full on AU that changes some landscape and physical geography but I'm happy to leave it as its roots because I don't want anymore out of it. And I learned a lot writing the 1/2 that I did. (Again, meandering circles of knowing where I wanted to go, and how I wanted to go, but because I didn't know my actual endpoint I couldn't get to the cool stuff-a civil war-that was supposed to come after the character drama of the first half. It's something I'll eventually finish once I actually figure out plot past a short story, ^^; but again, I don't this particular fic's serial numbers filed off nor do I want to be someone who wrote it, and then had to take it down because I'm a "serious author" that always bugged me especially when it was unrelated work.)

However despite her attempts, she finds herself being pulled back to him because they're addicted to each other. More specifically, Tessa is addicted to the pleasure (and Hardin being nice to her), while Hardin is addicted to the pain. After receiving some help from Landon, she opens her eyes to the hell that is her so called relationship and runs far away from Hardin, breaking contact. She's over his angsty excuses for giving her grief and is focused on living her best, happiest life without him. She moves to Seattle and meets up with Trevor, where they become friends. Slowly, Tessa and Trevor grow closer and acknowledge their mutual feelings for each other. Tessa realizes Trevor was right all along about Hardin, and she works on healing herself from the toxicity and the abuse Hardin's given her with Trevor and Landon by her side. Sometime in the future after she's fully healed, she and Trevor become a couple, they get engaged and live happily ever after, with Landon being Trevor's best man. Landon finds his own happiness. @@taylahstrauss4134 honestly, it's a nice place! I genuinely enjoy living here. I know many people don't but that's life I guess. I like the rain, I think it's comforting so it doesn't bother me. It DOES rain as much as people say. That stereotype is 100% true. it starts being grey and rainy just around November right after fall. It stays that way for most of winter, with February being the worst month imo. Fall here is STUNNING. The colors are everything and we do have a very nice seasonal life (meaning we do have all four seasons and see those changes). Summers here are AMAZING. It's so nice, not too overwhelmingly hot (other than those freak heat waves which we've been seeing increase because climate change ugh). It'll rain a bunch well into April with May finally seeing more sun than we had most of winter/spring. We have beautiful nature and scenery but also a great city-life. Literally just 30 minutes to an hour outside of Seattle gets you great hiking trails, beauuutiful lakes, and waterfalls to visit. In the city, we have more than just the space needle. We have local artisan stores, coffee shops more than the eye can see (yes, more than Starbucks). Seriously, LOTS of coffee shops. You will find a Starbucks on every other corner and local shops to make up for the Starbucks/Woods Coffee that ISN'T on a corner near you. People here are described to have the "Seattle chill" reputation meaning people think we're very cold and keep to ourselves but it reminds me a lot of a New York vibe? I don't know how to explain. It's just a place where people are chill, kind, and honest. There's definitely bad parts that's true, but what big city doesn't have its problems? Lots of homelessness unfortunately and there can be some violence. Like we'll have our own "don't go there" cities/areas BUT I feel like any big city will have that. So just be smart and take care of yourself if you're alone or feel unsafe. Other than that, the city is bright, fun, and there's lots to do. HUGE foodie scene with lots of amazing Asian places because of the influence from immigrants. Growing population of oher minorities which is nice because I'm latina so it's great to see more representation. There's fun bars that aren't too "cluby" or "dancey" where it's more of a chill vibe. If you find a dancey club you like, it's most likely downtown near capitol hill (trendy neighborhood) but I find that most of my friends just enjoy dressing up for quieter bars. I guess it's preference! LOTS of traffic, LOTS of noise, and construction all the time, and LOTS of tourists in the popular areas of the city. Overall it's a great hub for connections, jobs, and tech. Sports scene is big too and the Seahawks influence is everywhere so you'll see "12" all over the place. I'm not a hawks fan so it's just funny to me. People legit will decorate "12" in Christmas lights here. I hope this helps? 😆 😅 Also, there's definitely publishing houses there! If not in Seattle, then the outside of the city for sure in fancy/richer cities like Bellevue and Redmond. And those aren't too far from Seattle so it's possible to find work in publishing outside of Seattle but still live in Seattle and just commute if that's your jam. So I wouldnt' say Seattle is flashy because it's not comparable to LA or something. Even New York has flashier moments imo Seattle to me is rainy, grunge, chill, etc etc. I've lived here for so so long but I still feel like I learn more about the city everyday😅 my best friend just moved a neighborhood in downtown Seattle and her husband is new to the state so it's been fun to see his perceptions of the city too.

Fun fact, there are actually a LOT of movies filmed in Bulgaria, including some of the most popular action franchises of the past decade (Hitman's Bodyguard, Hellboy, some of the Expendables and Olympus has Fallen series), because of the sprawling Nu Boyana complex established outside Sofia. They also have a big backlot, so it's usually made to look like other places, but yeah...a surprising amount of filming goes on in Bulgaria and other eastern European countries like Romania as well thanks to inexpensive labor costs.
I work in entertainment and have visited the complex, it's quite impressive. Also, love your channel! And totally understandable why Bulgaria seems a weird choice to most moviegoing audiences.
The most unrealistic part of this movie remains how Tessa manages to get this giant job offer after (barely) working as an intern at a PUBLISHING COMPANY (an industry kind of struggling right now) which includes her relocation to another city, and LIVING WITH HER BOSS (?) and it somehow isn't part of a creepy sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. Millennials and Gen Z just laugh crying at the ease of the job market for all the characters in movies like this.

Ok I know... pretty much about borderline personality disorder (not a doctor, just a patient, lol) and Hardin shows a few symptoms, I didn't read the books or watched the films so say something if I'm wrong.
-Ha have HUGE problems to contain anger
    - He shows some behavior that could be possible being explained with idealization/ devaluetion
    - pushing people away and then being scared they leave you it's a common pattern in person with borderline.
    - extreme fear of losing someone that can be expressed in a lot of unhealthy way like extreme jelusy.
    - people with borderline are more likely to develop addiction like alcoholism
Sometimes people have Borderline+ narcissism traits
I'm not saying that every person with borderline is like Hardin, in fact there's 250 combination of simptoms. Few of my very best friend and gorgeous people have Borderline. I'm just saying that he's showing simptoms of some kind of mental disorder related to a trauma, and love can't cure it, it's great to be loved and helped but you have to change with therapy, those books and films are funny to judge but very dangerous for the message they bring, is not love that change you, if you have been through traumatic stuff and you have an addition you need professional help. If you are in a toxic relationship like Tessa and Hardin, you need to STOP IT.

Fun medical fact I learned is that sperm are VERY temperature sensitive and taking a dip in the hot tub (which is way over their life req's) will murder any sperm currently prepared in the body. So on the plus side, it's very unlikely you could become pregnant from having sex in a hot tub :)
Edit: also I really hope that the doctor didn't just deny her birth control due to the cervix issue. There's no reason that would be denied. Just because the likelihood of getting pregnant is lower it doesn't mean impossible and doctors know that better than anyone. She can still take birth control.

I remember I had read After on Wattpad and it was soooooo long. By the end of it I was sick to see the other installments were also ridiculously long. I just gave it up then.
Later on I stumbled upon these channels and realised that the disgust I felt while reading that book was more than justified.
    So thanks Amanda!

As a Seattleite, we are the sleepiest bunch of coffee drinking hipsters in grey rain. Flashy is the furthest thing from this city.
