Boomer, I really enjoyed reading your short article under "Description." It makes so much sense! "The Typical Last Mile!" That sooo describes the enjoyment of the small shelf layout! CHEERS
Good Job! The video is a nice break from the workbench. You’ve got me working with wet-on-wet acrylic washes and now Renzetti has me into gouaches! Fun but busy. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Funny you mention that. I just picked up a new set of (water-color) pencils. They add another dimension to weathering. You can draw a line and then touch it with a wet brush and it fades out while keeping the line. Hard to explain but very cool effect if you use them on flat Tamiya (XF) color. - very cool.
Some moments are so close to the real thing, you have to look twice to realize it's art. And it really is. I've seen some small layouts with more detail and more stories than you will ever find in a large layout. Really great Boomer thanx.
Your scenic skills are second to none. Just in awe of the trees, the grass, and the curved turnouts imbedded in the road. It feels like I am watching a real railroad. You must have been pretty heartbroken about Montana Rail Link being reabsorbed - my condolences.
Absolutely remarkable and incredibly inspiring. The different camera angles and recorded sounds really bring your layout to a higher level, if that’s even possible 🏆🏆🏆
When I was young I heard all those sounds laying on the floor with my face close to the Lionel track. Now because of you I can relive those pleasant moments . The proof of great scenery. Thanks Boomer!!.
There is something to say for film or video that contains little or no dialogue and the story is told through sound and visuals. Once again Boomer, you've nailed it.
Absolutely awesome... total perfection! The sound editing was bang on. Love the camera angles, the barge slip, the Diner roof top details. Thanks for sharing Boomer. Cheers!
Hi Boomer, Just watched Vlog 166 - You do this every now and then and it catches me by surprise but I love it and it makes me laugh - this time you dropped off the box - uncouple - back away and suddenly the hand of the creator reaches in. I love and enjoy your humor/creativity. Arlin, Grand Rapids, MI.
Damnit, it's one thing to have super-detailed locomotives and freight cars. . . But super-detailed trees! C'mon, you're setting the bar waaaaaaay too high! 😁 In all seriousness, your layout looks great along with superlative filming.
Wow, Boomer, I wasn't expecting that. It's kind of a breath of fresh air. Other than the giant hand scene, I thought I was looking at the real thing. Great videography. I enjoyed seeing the completed scene come alive in action. It was just remarkably epic in simplicity. Something only an OCD individual could pull off. You HO guys get all the cool stuff. Happy rails
Damn Boomer! The modeling I’d superb, the camera work is outstanding, the sounds are phenomenal, and the Operations are a joy to watch. Not that it is surprising… just more of the usual from you! Thanks for all the great content you put out. -Rick
Natural light is awesome for sure. Although with smaller scales it is undesirable in my experience because it highlights flaws no one would see otherwise. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.😁
Super modelling on detailed small shelf layout. Smooth running & very well filmed. Looks like lots of fun in a modest space - great! Thanks so much for sharing.
I love your layout! Mine is small 8x12 and I love the size! Everything is diarama close so I can scratch build and detail my heart out! I couldn't do this on a big layout I don't have the time! Nothing better then a cup of coffee and watching the trains! Thanks for the videos!
Yes! It’s 8:00 AM here in Atlanta, and we had a powerful thunderstorm blow through around 3:00 AM, so that thunder and rainfall really resonated! An extremely artful touch, Boomer! 🔥❤️🔥🙏👍👍
The timing of your release of this video, Boomer, connects amazingly well with a video that I got to see just last night, titled “Sparks Fly on the Fulton County Railroad!” It, also is from a Last Mile operation, in the southwest corner of the metro Atlanta area. Highly recommended. 🎉 I continue to be thrilled by your art! This is one of the payoffs for all your attention to detail over the months and years! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
When I watch railroad videos or photos, I tend to focus on what's beyond the subject. I found myself doing the same with this segment. Good job Boomer.
wow - inspirational You say they're underrated - all the best layouts are all small shelf layouts - because you spend decades just perfecting it as a diorama and operating it deliberately and slowly - each rpm of the diesel (from the speaker) is heard and appreciated. Each wheel turn over a frog or switch is anticipated. The detail that can go into each weathered rusted bolt is intentional. And you don't need to rent a hall or spend $100k on a home addition to house it. (necessarily).
Boomer you have done it again...! yes small shelf layouts are often overlooked and underrated but look at a whole lotta action in this big sequence - the scenery realism makes the entire scene come to life and it is very believable - well done and thanks for sharing.
What a great looking layout. It is so realistic and the details are very impressive. I've seen other videos of how you get this to look like this and I know it takes a lot of work but man it's sure worth the effort. A fine job.
Dear Mr Boomer - Have you done a video that shows how you have transitioned over the joins of your ‘removable’ benchwork sections ? Both in regards to the trackwork and the scenery ? - I feel like I am learning a lot from your videos and cannot wait to start on my own layout , yours is so inspirational. PS - watching from the UK here.

Beautifully done production. Are you having to move elements around the layout to make room for the camera, etc on a regular basis? Certainly an argument for your approach to keep each element moveable.
Yes and yes. This was the reason for my design (moveable) component style for 'River Road.' A lesson learned from the 'Glover Road' layout. It is really the same philosophy as film set making and theater. Everything must be "wild" (moveable) for the camera, lights etc. I'm still working on better lighting though because you need to shoot miniatures with a certain FPS and pin-hole aperture for depth of field which requires maximum lighting. Video is incredibly challenging to shoot, especially with smaller scales like this. Cheers.
@@boomerdiorama absolutely agree, particularly with respect to shooting with small apertures (and having to move buildings). Also great rationale for building structures with simple and durable components 'welded' together to avoid breakage.
You won't believe me if I told you . . . Windows 10 (free) editor. It's simple. I find if one has too many options you never get out of post-production to publish. I do wish it had "fade" though . . . but oh well. You can heal a lot of deficiencies during the shoot if you think it through.
@@boomerdiorama Agreed on the 'too many options'. I thought however you may have up-graded without me noticing. I actually love the style of video you produce Boomer.
