Boomer!!!! Thanks for the shout out and I can not wait to see what you're going to do with the SD35! I really enjoyed this video and seeing the progress and tips for working with water. I myself will be using GAC500! Take care and good luck with the progress. See you on the 10th! - Andy
Great update, thank you! Looking forward to seeing you again on the Second Section Podcast! The new "slum" apartments look great! The height is perfect with the bridge on the right and the hill side and trees on the left. It also doesn't tower too much over the block building in the front, great job on the proportions. "Can you live with your layout?" I think I will thanks to finding your channel when I started designing my layout two years ago and building it over the last several months. Not only are your videos technical but you also present the philosophical and sometimes the spiritual (not in a religious sense). These other aspects (philosophical and spiritual) are usually missing from the hobby conversation and probably the result of why most are NOT satisfied with their layout. They didn't ask themselves the right questions when designing and building their layout. Thanks Boomer!
Thank you Boomer for sharing your love and passion, not only for model railroading but life as well. I have gained so much from you about a positive outlook on life as well modeling skills!
Just do us a favor and don’t burn out. You pack so much content in these lessons that there is plenty to take in and try. When you get the chance to paint a locomotive I’m looking forward to it. Nice break from buildings and scenery. Thanks for a great channel!

Don't know how anyone could think you aren't working hard. The structure behind the cinder block building is an interesting example of reverse thinking. Most often the generic buildings inhabit the background of a scene and the more detailed or visually interesting structure is located in the foreground. In this instance you're doing the reverse. I think this intensifies the character of each.
Thank you. Great observation! I do tend to think and compose scenes as you describe. I see things backwards often and work in such a manner. It helps to break habitual mainstream thinking when solving problems . . and then hold a mirror up t it. Sounds weird, but it works and helps to see things differently. Cheers!
Hey Boomer. You do want you want when you want to. You really don't have to explain yourself to us how you want to proceed with your wonderful railway. Whatever you do and whenever you do it will always be inspirational and of interest.

Go at your speed. We sure don't want you to burn out. I, for one, really look forward to your videos. They're the best ones that I watch. I'm amazed at your talents and skills. Thank you.
I am still amazed at the detail, like the power poles, debris along side the tracks, the dilapidated picket fence, etc.. Those small, but important details, are what make this layout a marvel rather than a toy.
Thank you. Details are another interesting chapter in this hobby. You can go crazy with it. I haven't really entered into all the minutia to flesh out more character yet. Cheers~
"That's the way it us", yes, so true. But Thank you for sharing your work and doing all the work it takes to make these videos. They are great gift to me. The imperfectness of your layout is perfect. The rivers edge stumps and little wave line , the railroad debris , dead tree branches , just everything !

Just on Second Section - I was tipped off to the podcast when you first appeared as a guest and I am now a devoted subscriber. Im always impressed with your videos, there's so much to take in. Your a true gem of of knowledge for the model railroad community. You have a great talent at what you do and I feel fortunate to have found your channel and hope that you can continue with your videos, they are quite the inspiration.
Thank you for the encouraging words. I have full intentions of building and maturing the channel in a way that benefits the collective community. Although, I would have to say the content is probably more for the intermediate to advanced modelers as much as I try to be inclusive to the beginner as well. It's a tough balancing act. I feel like I have just begun the channel. I think the greatest challenge has been establishing the brand and the content on a consistent basis. I feel things are just about right as once a week and the odd feature in between now-and-again. Once again, thank you for supporting the channel. Cheers ~ Boomer. 😁
Boomer, thanks for the all time and effort you put into your videos. I know video production takes time away from you that could be probably be better spent but the lessons you teach are invaluable to us modelers who are trying to create a realistic model railroad. I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve got coming down the pipeline!
Thank you. It takes a little time to adjust and find a balance between building and video production. Nevertheless, the the channel is healthy and I am having fun so things are good!. Cheers! 😁
Was really refreshing to hear you talk about the subject of modeling locomotives and how much it really takes up our time. I have put my layout “on hold” while I model my 4 freelance locos… I honestly felt a bit overwhelmed and almost lazy on the time it’s taken me to complete them and get back to the layout. Really looking forward to seeing the Loco build. Thanks again for always pushing us forward… -John
Love your channel. I have been away from Model Railroading for almost 40 yrs. Now moving half way across the world and will be building a shelf layout. As most modellers, we always dream of a big layout but hard for most to do. I knew in my mind that I could only do a small layout, but struggled with acceptance of it being satisfying. You have shown me that it is possible and as you have done, I am looking forward to “detailing” more than running trains. I have 12 ft in length to work with, yet I feel it will keep me plenty busy and happy. Thanks and I look forward to more from you.
One can never really get away from the love of the hobby even through a long hiatus. I had big layouts in the past and they can get old and cumbersome fast. There was always a sense of anxiety and lack of vision with my larger layouts for some odd reason - probably due to poor planning. We never like to plan but rather dive in quickly. I can live with this smaller layout with total contentment. It has a plan and a rich history to help keep me engaged. It's hard to explain but I guess we can all get there if we are willing to change our approach to it as you say. Cheers ~ Boomer.
My english ist not good enough, so I have to express in German: Hoher Detailierungsgrad ! Tolle Wassergestaltung. Realistische Gebäude, Gleisplan und fantastische Geländegestaltung. Würde es mir gerne mal live anschauen, wenn ich könnte!- Frank
Be proud 👏 Boomer!!! That shelf layout is museum quality. Good luck on the GP35, when it comes around. Easy does it. All in do time. Thank you, for all your efforts 👌. And of course.......Happy Trails.
@boomerdioramas yeh...I didn’t see any GP35's on SRY's roster...my bad. Only on MRL'S roster. The SD35 can run up to the yard, across the bridge. Wonder if the Canfor SW1200RS's have any prospects yet...or maybe SRY will take them on? I'd be a nice surprise.. Just like your warehouse spur. I spent the day, with family, up in a small mountain lake in Mexico. Beautiful day.
Thank you so much Boomer for your time and effort to produce videos of your work. It has inspired me and I know a lot of other people to step up the way they model scenery. Your work is what we aspire to. 👌👌👌
Great advice on updating water effects. I think you had metioned this before, and I redid my lake with a mix of Woodland Scenics Water Effects and Golden GAC 500 and it came out great! "Be patient and let your skill-set grow." Definitely feel that. Don't force it. Just wait. Cheers - Bill.
Thanks Boomer! These have been great videos to watch and learn. Take your time. There is no need to rush to get it done. But, I think you already know that.
Add my name to the list of people who are very, very impressed with your creation(s). Thank you for your willingness to instruct us. After viewing your work I wonder if I will ever be able to match it. But, I'll keep trying.
Awesome! I was just cycling on Annacis the other day and I see that this old building is just of Fraser View Place, you did a fine job recreating this area.
I love watching this all come together. I always wondered about the farm house. Now we will get to see! It really is a labor of love, and it tells this story over time.
@@boomerdiorama kit bashing is almost as old a form as scratch building. DPM kits are usually inexpensive and give great starting points for kit bashing and customizing. 😎
Unfortunately, life has a habit of rearing its head, taking us away from our chosen hobby. The beauty of that is, our hobby is still there when we find time to get back to it. You do fantastic work, in the time you do find. Great update. Looking forward to see what happens on the 'other side of the bridge!'
Thanks Boomer, I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into your modelling and video production. I have made a couple of short running session videos with no voice over and know how much time it takes to make a basic video. Yours are always beautifully filmed and edited. Please keep enjoying your modelling. Cheers Peter (Melbourne, Australia)
It's astonishing how fast time passes when we are within our passions. Thank you for teaching your craft and skills, and especially thank you for making your content so honest and open. It is a blessing to hear your wisdom, the good and the bad, and the hobby as a hobby :) I've learned so much from you and I look forward to every episode you make, thank you Boomer!
Acrylic paint has a learning curve if you are coming from oils and lacquers, but man, is it ever an awesome addition to the hobbyist's medium. Cheers ~ Boomer.
Magnificent!!!! Your ability to capture 1:1 and and convert it to 1:87 is simply spectacular!!!!! Your layout is awe inspiring. Your attention to detail is second to none. You are "The Model Railroader" with no limitations. Raise 'em up with cheers to you!!!!
So, I went back and re-watched VLOG #5 concerning early bench work. It's pretty cool to see how the RR has advanced! It's also impressive to me how your concept from 2 years ago is coming to life. I don't have time or space for my own model RR, so I'm getting my fix through you. Thanks for sharing. I know it must be a significant amount of time you devote to these videos. Well done!
I've been really enjoying your work since I stumbled across this channel a few months ago. I've learned a ton from watching your builds (and enjoy your stories about growing up in Kits - my mother lives in that area so I know it well) - and personally I love the pacing. This isn't production under a deadline - it's a hobby, right? You'll get there when you get there. Besides, I'm still catching up!😁
I really like the new background structure you did next to the overpass. That will be an interesting episode or 2. Thx for the update, Boomer, love the progress and overall shots, could you take some more time slowly showing the scenes as you move along the layout? So much to see and experience as each flows to the next. Thanks 😂
Great update and preview. You sure know how to create the interest for what is to come. That background building and entire scene will be powerful. I'm sure you know that you are doing something greater than yourself when you give of yourself for others. That certainly is not always easy because we are human. Just know you have touched us with your contributions and there is only one you, one Boomer. Many thanks for all that you do.
I sure recognize those buildings from New West, I know exactly the location and “scene” you’re after. One of my favourite character spots as well. So much modelling potential in New West. Keep up the awesome content and hey, relax if you need to take a break. There’s so much content on your channel to keep us all busy and entertained.
Dear Boomer, cool shots of the brewery, SRY must be watching! I’ll just be patient for your next episodes! Awesome how the buildings create depth beyond the cinder block building and next to the overpass. Cheerio
Love what you’ve changed on the water scene. Hopefully, I’ll get to try out your techniques some day. I can totally understand your time limits thing. You can see by when I finally get to view your recording, how time past by me. Whatever time and energy you have to tell us your story is fine with me. Take care.
@@boomerdiorama By the way: I've been part of a debate that will soon be live on UA-cam. I mentioned your work as my favorite inspiration and one of the sources for my layout, and the editor would like to know if we can show an excerpt of one of your videos as an illustration. They would just pick a few seconds of video, and add a link to your channel. Is it okay for you? Otherwise, they will just add a screenshot of your channel's homepage. Thank you in advance!
The new background structure was a nice surprise. It looks like something I'd like to build. Looking forward to see the build video on that. Great update!! Thanks for all of your hard work producing these great videos. Cheers - Larry.
I can remember not being so sure how I was going to solve this one. After walking away for some time it slowly came together. The beauty is every model railroader can share in the same experience. Cheers!
I just found your channel Boomer. Im blon away at how real this scene looks. The dock and ally way. It just pulls me in. Shelf layouts are art 🎨. Yours is too cool. Thank you for sharing. Makes me want to start my 3rd.😂 P.j. Carpinteria Ca.
Ug I hear you on the lack of time! I'm lucky to get 3 hours in it cumulative throughout the week. If only I could be tinkering with parts while my machine runs at work....
Thanks for sharing. Love your work. I was just there in Vancouver on the 9/12/23, finishing up an Alaskan cruse. I wish I had had more time. I would have looked you up. Or gone to the island to see the place for myself. When we ventured out on our own. I was told the island was ten mile that a way. LOL So I got close. just a few days ago. Im back in Sacramento today. I got home yesterday. Thank you for sharing. I just love your work. Hope I'm home on the 10th for the podcast.
It’s coming together so nicely Boomer! Thank you for all your time you invest in making your videos, you are truly my favorite model railroading content creator. Question for you sir, you still have the Rapido SW1200?
Congrats! And it is always niceto see the progress on your incredible and inspirering layout! Sometimes altrnations you do work for you. I am a part time painter and at times I do add a window to a blank wall to add interest and finde a year or two the prototype has done exactly the same! Anyway, the new buildings behind the cinder block building will look amazing and is a reminder how much depth it gives to a scene and along the overpass makes the scene real! Cheers from a Swewdwn qhich had a very rainy summer!
I love how you have created the feeling of a huge space in a small layout. Great design work. I also noticed a roof top structure on the second warehouse front, is that new or did I just miss that in earlier videos?
Be careful what you model, your models may be causing rifts in space time. You could be unwittingly changing some people’s reality. 😂😂😂 I like the water. I have been playing around with the water in my harbour. I might try this, I’ve been playing with the glass bead stuff. Rob
Congrats on your invite to the podcast! I am considering starting my shelf layout that I started last year and using the cork instead of the foam for the roadbed and also building my turnouts by hand. Tough decision to make. River Road is looking amazing!
Many decisions around the layout can be tough. I don't regret one minute of mine. I went to great lengths to build a solid (plywood) foundation (benchwork) - 1/4" cork over 3/8" plywood and things are awesome. Cheers and have fun! ~ Boomer.
@@boomerdiorama What I should have said is I wish they had chapter markers for specific sections, but that's a comment I really should leave on their page.
Is the Tugboat on hold forever? We know that peoples requests are viable and legitimate and that time is a big factor, I do not start a model I know I will not finish and boy do I get nasty comments if there is no finished product. I understand it is your layout, your life, and your family that is the reason you do what you enjoy. We all have hopes and dreams as there are no one way streets in modeling. You share and we are all in anticipation of when will we see the next leg of the project. I am subscribed because I enjoy your content and have a deep admiration and love for those people that have talent and skills to share. Forgive my tirade I am an old fart that has problems dealing with my own modeling and responsibility to my public, so please keep us entertained, your doing a bang up job on River Road Boomer!
The Tug Boat is staring me in the face beside my modeling bench waiting for the next que once I finish this scene. There is no way I have abandoned it . . . no way . . . because it is the lynch pin for the Barge Slip Scene and I am still stoked about it. Probably October /November if all goes well. ;-)
Boomer SO amazing! Do you take apprentices? I'll call you master and fetch your slippers and make you coffee. Such talent. Your videos are inspiring me and you have so many to watch. Thanks for all your efforts in the post production it is a huge job and you have done a superb job of it.
I couldn't help but notice the TTX boxcar on the slip. I've always had a bit of a personal internal battle as to whether graffiti should be modeled or not, and the struggle continues. Regardless of my personal feelings, if you are modeling the real world, you model what's in the real world. The question I have is, and I don't want to steal any future material here, do you apply the graffiti by hand or use decals?
Sometimes I hand - paint graffiti but these ones I used decals from Micro Scale. 😁 I know how you feel about graffiti. My real job involves having it removed and it is painful at times. I have mixed feelings about graffiti, but in the end on a model, it is historical representation. Furthermore, I only apply it to one side of the car so I can turn them around when I feel like it. This way I can have it both ways since I don't drive my trains in circles I only see one side. Cheers and thanks for sharing your thoughts. 😉

You are a big inspiration, not at your level of craftsmanship, but as you said, the more you do the better it gets, somethings work, somethings don't, kinda like life, only difference is you get to decide where the trees go! Great video as always, and take time for yourself, it will still be there. But, seriously thanks for doing what you do, we do appreciate you.
What happened to your Rapido SW1200 undec kit build? I’ve been absent awhile and I just found and bought two of them and looking for some inspiration. Great work as always
I have two. No time to commit to them right now. My focus is on the layout and the ASW1200's are low on the list for operations. Furthermore. I will be building other subjects (SD35 and Dash 9 first) before I sink my teeth into those Rapido's.😁
Dont burn yourself out Boomer .. love the new content but don’t kill yourself getting it out there.. i watch your vids over and over anyway so im always good your work still inspires me to do better

Wonder if the Canfor SW1200RS's have any prospects yet...or maybe SRY will take them on? I'd be a nice surprise..
Just like your warehouse spur.
I spent the day, with family, up in a small mountain lake in Mexico. Beautiful day.
Bedankt
Thank you kindly for your support! Cheers ~ Boomer.
Thank you so much Boomer for your time and effort to produce videos of your work. It has inspired me and I know a lot of other people to step up the way they model scenery. Your work is what we aspire to. 👌👌👌
My pleasure!
😁👍
Thanks Boomer! These have been great videos to watch and learn. Take your time. There is no need to rush to get it done. But, I think you already know that.
Thanks for the tips!
@@boomerdiorama Thank you!
Outstanding update, can't wait for Sept updates! You are a true artist/mentor in the model railroading community!
Thank you very much!
Add my name to the list of people who are very, very impressed with your creation(s).
Thank you for your willingness to instruct us. After viewing your work I wonder if I will ever be able to match it. But, I'll keep trying.
Keep having fun is the name of the game. ;-)
Awesome! I was just cycling on Annacis the other day and I see that this old building is just of Fraser View Place, you did a fine job recreating this area.
Very cool! It's a neat area to walk. There are also park benches on the River Bank there as well.
I’ll be sure to catch the replay of your podcast when it is out! And that new multi-story background building!!!
Thank you! Cheers ~ Boomer.
I love watching this all come together.
I always wondered about the farm house. Now we will get to see!
It really is a labor of love, and it tells this story over time.
Just so you know, the farm house is an altered (DPM) kit with details added.
@@boomerdiorama kit bashing is almost as old a form as scratch building. DPM kits are usually inexpensive and give great starting points for kit bashing and customizing. 😎
Oh yeah. The DPM castings are excellent.@@dan8402
Awesome modelling matey, right through..Thanks for sharing.
No problem 👍
Unfortunately, life has a habit of rearing its head, taking us away from our chosen hobby. The beauty of that is, our hobby is still there when we find time to get back to it. You do fantastic work, in the time you do find. Great update. Looking forward to see what happens on the 'other side of the bridge!'
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing that. Cheers ~ Boomer.
Thank you so much!
I respect your decision on your layout I'm working on my. Love how do things kinda like mine. Thanks
Cool, thanks!
You are doing great work, it's I joy to see what you have been up to. Take your time. There is no rush. Take care, stay safe, and rule one. Have fun..
Will do . . . thank you!
Looks great. I have been using acrylic's for years. I love acrylic paint. Thanks for showing how you use and implement.
Thank you very much!
The Second Section podcast is fantastic as you say! Besides you they have other well known modelers doing amazing work. I highly recommend it.
Couldn't agree more!
Well done!
Thank you. I get what you say. Dreaming and Imagineering is half the fun!
Looking good, waiting for the old house and slum area. You do your thing Dusty. Cheers
Coming soon!
Besides, I'm still catching up!😁
Awesome, thank you! - Kitsilano was an awesome neighborhood to grow up during the sixties and seventies! ;-)
I really like the new background structure you did next to the overpass. That will be an interesting episode or 2.
Thx for the update, Boomer, love the progress and overall shots, could you take some more time slowly showing the scenes as you move along the layout? So much to see and experience as each flows to the next.
Thanks 😂
O.K. Thank you for the input. I will try to slow down a little more next time. Cheers ~ Boomer.
I drive by that building all the time.. Unfortunately it's a hang out place for the homeless.. Amazing work Boomer. REALLY amazing..
Yes. I know. It never used to be though. If you go up on the park-ade above it's a great place for railfanning.
I like the rip-rap next to the barge launch. Nice effect.
Thank You!
Thanks a bunch!
The new water looks great.
Yes. Thank you. The beauty of acrylic gel is you do not need to add hardener. It works straight from the jar. ;-)
I sure recognize those buildings from New West, I know exactly the location and “scene” you’re after. One of my favourite character spots as well. So much modelling potential in New West. Keep up the awesome content and hey, relax if you need to take a break. There’s so much content on your channel to keep us all busy and entertained.
Yes. That area has lot's of railroad in front of it as well. 😁
Dear Boomer, cool shots of the brewery, SRY must be watching! I’ll just be patient for your next episodes! Awesome how the buildings create depth beyond the cinder block building and next to the overpass. Cheerio
Thank you Vincent! Cheers.
Love what you’ve changed on the water scene. Hopefully, I’ll get to try out your techniques some day.
I can totally understand your time limits thing. You can see by when I finally get to view your recording, how time past by me. Whatever time and energy you have to tell us your story is fine with me. Take care.
Thanks.
Life imitates art‼️😉😂😂😂
😁👍
Thank you for the update!
In fine, whatever you build that makes you happy makes us happy. :)
Ok thanks!
Second Section is awesome, glad you're doing it again, really interesting the last time
Glad to hear it!
Makes me want to start my 3rd.😂

Awesome, thank you!
your scenery is amazing
Thank you. The trick is to be patient and work in layers over time. ;-)
Ug I hear you on the lack of time! I'm lucky to get 3 hours in it cumulative throughout the week. If only I could be tinkering with parts while my machine runs at work....
👍
Thanks for the inspiration and techniques!
Sure thing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ~ Boomer.😁
Sure thing Vincent. Thanks for sharing! Cheers.😁
It’s coming together so nicely Boomer! Thank you for all your time you invest in making your videos, you are truly my favorite model railroading content creator. Question for you sir, you still have the Rapido SW1200?
Yes. I have two sitting in the build que. ;-)
@@boomerdioramaI’m excited!
Looking forward to whatever you do.
Awesome! Thank you Kim. Cheers!
Thanks for the update. Time, never enough. I'm lucky to get 4 hours a week, but I'll take what I get.
That's a good attitude! 😁
Thank you! I wish we had a "rainy" summer. Cheers!
Thanks
Thank you Peter. Cheers!
Looking good Boom-boom!

Thanks for the update, looking forward to what's to come next! I really enjoyed the podcast ! Now we know what you look like lol. !
Yay, thank you!
👍🏽 Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Congrats on the podcast. Look forward to watching the rest of this build!
Awesome, thank you!
Very cool
Thank you!
I'm looking forward to this one!
Model Railroad season is here!
I love how you have created the feeling of a huge space in a small layout. Great design work. I also noticed a roof top structure on the second warehouse front, is that new or did I just miss that in earlier videos?
Thank you very much! Yes . . . the structure is new. It's a liquid tank of sorts. I plopped it down a while ago.
Be careful what you model, your models may be causing rifts in space time. You could be unwittingly changing some people’s reality. 😂😂😂 I like the water. I have been playing around with the water in my harbour. I might try this,
I’ve been playing with the glass bead stuff. Rob
Sometimes it feels like I am related to Rod Serling some how . . . lol. - Twilight Zone. ;-)
~ Boomer.
Love the podcast, but it runs a bit longer than I have time for in one sitting.
It archives so you can watch in parts if you have to.😁@@JRossHunter
@@boomerdiorama What I should have said is I wish they had chapter markers for specific sections, but that's a comment I really should leave on their page.
🔥👌👍
Awesome! Thank you!
Time to get Stobe Hobo on there somewhere and then it will finally be complete :)
It would be cool to get a 3D scan of the character and then . . . ;-)
That slum tenant scene is............WOW!
Any idea what the topic will be for the Second Section?
I'm not absolutely sure. It's Andy and Mike's call but I think it is something like - Can you you live with your layout?
Love the new buildings, cant wait to se you build it.
The overpass, are you going to ad cars, tunel in the end. ?
The underpass leads to a whole new section. Still panning stage.😁
Probably October /November if all goes well. ;-)
You do you Boomer whenever and how ever you see fit. I'm putting the miles on my locos so you dont have too😅Still watching🚂🇨🇦
Lol . . . O.K. ;-)
Hey Boomer
All I can say is , once again…👍!

Boomer SO amazing! Do you take apprentices? I'll call you master and fetch your slippers and make you coffee. Such talent. Your videos are inspiring me and you have so many to watch. Thanks for all your efforts in the post production it is a huge job and you have done a superb job of it.
Thanks for sharing. Keep having fun!😁
I know how you feel about graffiti. 😉
Thanks Boomer & Dusty.
Our pleasure!
Is this short line is own or was own by Montana Rail Link ? It looks like they use the same logo.
This is a Canadian short line which is owned by the same (MRL) corporation. The "Lion Head" logo is Dennis Washington Corp. He also owns Seaspan and other assets as well. He has a cool story here: ua-cam.com/video/br3JX5HN1J4/v-deo.html
O.K. Thank you!
Hey Boomer, could you model me winning the lottery please? I could do with it coming true in 18 months.
