- Hi guys welcome back! Today's reaction is to a special, PayPal request.
We have reacted to many Metallica songs so far, but this one was different to us. The vybe of the song, and even the setting, which took place in an actual prison! It was not our favorite out of all their songs, but it was still interesting. Thank you for this request!

This wasn't our favorite from Metallica... but we still enjoyed discovering a new song! 👍😎
It's a good song, but definitely not one of their greatest songs. I haven't listened to the whole album, have only heard this song and another called Frantic (which has a pretty catchy guitar riff), but you can definitely notice that it wasn't the classic Metallica we were used to. The band was in a disarray when they made the album, called St. Anger. You should watch the documentary Some Kind of Monster, it shows the making of that album and it shows that there where tensions in the band, they go to therapy and James Hetfield the singer even went to rehab.
This is nobodies favorite by metallica
I discovered this song before the others and i loved it! Metallica is made for men, i feel... Anyway... Did some research because of st anger and i was like: Oh... Sooo... Wow!!!
Before the other songs i mean... Sorry, English is not my first language
I always thought this song sounds like they forgot to plug the guitars in lol
"The "St. Anger" video, directed by The Malloys, was shot in San Quentin State Prison, California. The band played at various locations in the area to hundreds of enthusiastic inmates, except for the death chambers and the death row cells. It is also the first Metallica video to feature bassist Robert Trujillo who joined just prior to filming." courtesy Wikipedia
This song is recommended to a reactor to test them if they've been honest about all their previous reactions or not. You pass ladies. Thank you for your honesty.
On the real. I mean I actually like the st anger album but def not on the first listen
@@allahbless2278 Yeah, St. Anger as an album is sick af.
I’m curious why Metallica fans hate this song so much??? I’m not a hard core Metallica fan and I love the song
@@Trip.L.L.L One of the reasons other than the snare that I can think of is the lazy songwriting and repetitiveness. Hell, James had the same lyrics from verse 1 on verse 2. He even said "St. Anger around my neck" 3 times in the verses
I think the song you ladies were thinking of is Master of puppets
NO
wherever i may roam intro way closer
I was thinking about Master of Puppets too.
Alpha Wolf TF you talking about? The riff is kinda similar, they have listened to Master of puppets so it’s pretty likely she found a resemblance between riffs.
Yep it's puppetz
As for all the shit some "fans" give it (and some deserved) TBH, I rather like the song, and the out of tune snare worked for it. The problem IMO was that it was kept for the whole album, and as such comes off like a gimmick. Not a very good one. Still, this, Frantic, Some Kind of Monster, Unnamed Feeling and All Within My Hands are all good songs. But... most of the rest feel unfinished, the lyrics... were meant to be punkier feeling...but I think missed the mark on stuff like Invisible Kid and Sweet Amber.
St Anger itself came from James' anger and control issues, which came to a head before this album in part from his alcoholism. SO it didn't really have anything to do with the prison, but if you consider that anger issues brought many of the inmates to prison in the first place.
The drums were out intentionally kept out of tune and mic'd prety sloppily to give a more "intense" feeling. But, I think the opposite resulted.
I agree with you pretty much. I do like the album but for reason's I can relate to, When I went through some personal darkness.
@@The_nitewolf in my opinion, that's how music works. Normal don't like music because of "feeling" or "how good you are at that instrument", you like music about how you feel and relate
Yeah it was filmed in a real deal prison. San Quentin is a hardcore prison.
Sure was a real deal prison.
"The unnamed feeling" would be a better option
That’s my favorite song from this album!
Sweet Amber and The Unnamed Feeling are my favorite songs from this one.
The song was meant to actually feel something wrong about it, it was recorded in the "dark age" of metallica
Metallica giving those Inmates a show, is a blessing because that'll be a moment for the inmates to cherish alot, It shows that Metallica cares for them and decided a concert is very appropriate for them because no one else will do so.
“Something about the drums just didn’t feel right”.
Correct! The snare was replaced with a trash can 😉
St Anger is widely considered the worst Metallica album. The writing, production, sound are all sub-standard for these guys.
This is an album that had to happen. They were going through some shit and nearly broke up in 2001/2002. This album brought them back together and put them back on track.
I would highly recommend you check out their documentary film “Some Kind of Monster” that was filmed during and prior to the recording of this album.
Quite an outstanding and revealing documentary that shows a band at breaking point.
"worst metallica album" hey buddy, i think you don't remember LULU😂 i prefer listen st.anger than lulu.
sampperi 007 funny joke.
Lulu is *not* a Metallica album.
i agree lol

Even you don't talk about it on the channel, I highly recommend that you check out the Some Kind of Monster documentary. It's the behind-the-scenes making of the whole St. Anger album and it explains a lot of why the whole album was so bad compared to the other Metallica albums.
2:20 They gave a concert a day before or after in that prison :)
It definitely was filmed in San Quentin prison. Some other scenes were spliced in of actors portraying a story. After filing the video in the prison Metallica played a whole concert for the prisoners
As a sound engineer, that drum sound absolutely kills me >_
Bird Steak *CLANG CLANG CLANG* yep....
@@birdsteak9267 Funny fact, is that Lars Ulrich has used his drum kit he used for like KILL 'EM ALL demos or something like that (I don't remember correctly, but there's some interview on the Internet that talks about it, somehow!!!). But, he changed the sound of the snare drum, so that's what we get on the record, LOL!!!!
Snare go 🤪🔫
god damn it Lars, you could have spoken up and got you a decent set. But then again this was the dark times.
As someone who has always loved Metallica and struggled with addiction ive always loved the st anger album because of the raw emotion of it.
You guy's should give a reaction to, The Memory Remains by Metallica.
Yeah they go to San Quentin to film the video
These drums moments are similar with the part of Master of Puppets! :)
Metallica - My Friend Of Misery
The part at the end that you wanted explained has to do with the fact that San Quentin prison is California's death row prison. It is also the most notoriously violent prison in the history of California. Going there means that you are in for a miserable life.
The song you're looking for is matter of puppets at 0:48
I was thinking the same.
I actually like the album even tho it’s all riff
I know Metallica stripped their sound to bare bones
I am a huge punk rock enthusiast, it sounded more punk rock than thrash
Iron Maiden "Fear Of The Dark" please!
Don't be scared... lol!
By the way, you both are looking beautiful as always! :))
From this "St. Anger" album I could only love 2 songs
*All within my hands
&
*My world
And u guys already reacted to
*All within my hands ft. S&M2 San Francisco version
This album was therapy for the band. Their rawest record saved the group and continue their legacy today
Excelente canción mi favorita 🤘
Pésimo gusto. Saludos.
@@evil_chuck cada quien tiene gustos diferentes 😎
:v
I love your honesty ♥️ I love METALLICA. This song is not one their best. I agree with you. Take care ❤️
I love this song when I was little...
Both still beautiful como siempre. Missed y'all 😞🥰
I love y'all for this! Very honest reaction. Most of us feel that way. But check out a recent live performance! It's different live. Kicks a lot of ass
As a proud metal head I appreciate all those that are requesting good old metal.
For whom the Bell tolls. Is the same as that symbol crash part in for whom the Bell tolls and St anger
Definitely not their best album. Metallica was going through tough times back then. Jason (who had been their bassist since 1986 after legendary Cliff Burton's death) had left the band, James (Vocalist) was struggling with addictions and took a "me-time" for facing them. The members didn't get along well then. A feasible lack of accurate ideas to record new music which fit into the new "groove" of Metal those years, and the list can easily go on...
Even though, some fans have found few good things from the album as years go by, others still loathe it... You girls have gone through the St. Anger experience hehehe
P.D. YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST!!! MY WARMEST GREETINGS FROM QUITO, ECUADOR =D
Hey FunwithDee&A 😊🤗... Really enjoyed your reaction videos... I like to request a Metallica song The Unnamed Feeling for you guys to react... Its from the St Anger album... Keep up the good work & keep on rockin guys 🤘👍💪 from 🇸🇬
Would be worth seeing the live show of St. Anger in Manchester 2019, they have a solo added, regardless of solo or not I still live this album
Yes it was a REAL Prison, so many people hate the album due to the Snare-drum, i love the album i mostly listen to the DVD version recorded live in the studio
Even though a lot of people don’t like this album, it’s one of my favorites
Saludos y besos desde 🇪🇨🇪🇨🇪🇨 felicidades por su canal y sigan adelante
It reminds me of For whom the bells toll.
The official video is much better than the album version, glad you reacted to it.
As a Dane I always found it cool to hear Lars count in Danish in the beginning of this musicvideo! James Hetfield has done it too when they've been playing in Denmark :)
Well dang that sucks. I forgot how good that song was I just downloaded it. But I do much appreciate the Honest reaction ladies. More Metallica Pleease! 🙅♂️🤘🤘
Yeeeeaaaahhhh🤘🏻😎🎸🥁🤘🏻
I saw the documentary they said that the video was entirely film in the prison with real prisoners no actors. And all prisoners were all free and no one disrespected the band.
St. Anger is not their worst album. It is an album of their worst times.
Lmao thanks GILBERT
It reminds you of master of puppets. The part right before he says " hell is worth all that".
It was filmed in a Real prison. SanQuentin is located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Like every metal song had that part that you talking about for Metallica they used it in many songs example Orion and the four horseman
🤘💜🤘
I've loved every gilbert I've ever met
Listening to the best Metallica song, Snare Anger!!! 🤘🏾
You ladies should listen to some kind of monster from the same album it is way heavier and more brutal but honestly a very good reaction the both of you were looking beautiful as always
I live in the East Bay Area, across the Bay and a little South of Metallica's HQ in San Rafael, CA. I think I may have commented on one of your S&M 2 reactions as I was lucky enough to go to that.
San Quentin is a state prison in Southeast San Rafael right on the Bay. They did film the video at various locations there. The reason why you ladies haven't gotten any requests for this song and aren't very familiar with it is because the St. Anger album is probably Metallica's least popular and worst album of their career. It was made during the band's darkest times when they had some serious issues going on. The album is infamous for a few things, namely Lars's snare drum sound (which is possibly why the drums sounded off to you guys), and the fact that Kirk was forbidden to play guitar solos on it. I'm glad you ladies at least didn't totally hate it. I actually like the album somewhat as I've adapted to its different sound, although it is certainly different sounding than the rest of their songs and albums.
The album ST. Anger from Metallica is the most controversial of the band, it was produced at a very bad time when the band almost broke up, Bassist Jason Newsted left, vocalist James Hettifield had serious problems with alcoholism and it all impacted the sound of the band he was trying to hold a lot of anger and tension, the recording mode until today is contested especially by the drums on this album, but I like this different version of Metallica.
San Quentin is a real S.F. prison, they were there, they do include artistic video for effect, and most of the prisoners are probably fans, so they've got protection.
I think from your dadada, Blackened?
First ! 😂🤲🏻❤️
It's like their 4th or 5th best album
The symbol part is a similar technique to Pantera Cowboys from hell....also it might be Master of puppets.
Master of Puppets had the similar sudden pauses throughout the song.
Yeah that break is similar to the one they have in Master Of puppets..
Next metallica unforgiven 2 please.. Thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Love your reactions! Haha
You should check 115 by Elena siegman I think you would like it or anything else from deftones like cherry waves
Call me weird but I am an old school Metallica fan but I actually like this song, it's raw and fierce in my opinion. You can hear the song with a better snare sound, search youtube for St. Anger with normal snare drum. Lars released the snare on the snare drum that's why it sounds weird.
No Love by Exodus
Exodus is one of the first thrash bands ,if not the first ..... theyre as important too the thrash genre as anyone of the Big 4 bands ( Metallica, slayer, Megadeth, anthrax) give them a try .
The song it reminded you was robably master of puppets =)
Btw they did cut maaany parts of the song for that video, it's horrible when you know it
Master of Puppets? WTF? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@@evil_chuck Of course I ain't talking about the whole song -_-" just the tiny part she is wondering about at 9:10 sighhhhhs
👍🤘🏽🤪🥰
"Something about the drums just didn't feel right." Don't worry, everyone who has even heard this song agrees with you.
Check out the song "Think for Yourself" by D.R.I.
great vids on your channel, please please please would you do a double reaction to the song ZOMBIE by a band called the cranberries and then react to the cover of that song by bad wolves, there is a sad story behind the original and a sad story behind the cover aswell.
awesome channel so far :)
Tout l’album est bizarre car il a été réalisé dans une période où les membres du groupe se supportaient plus, a deux doigts de tout arrêter (tout a été filmé dans le documentaire some kind of monster) et faites welcome home (sanitarium) ! 😄
React to while she sleeps pls
Yea you were thinking about Mater of Puppets.
Yes this is really in the prison
Not my favorite song from metallica but I dig it.
Dan nah dah na dah. For whom the bells tolls
React to Falling in reverse - Popular monster or losing my life
who care's if it's close to other song lol just play it I love this!
Lars is known for those cymbal chokes. There are a good bit of songs he does that in, but you're probably talking about Master of Puppets or Battery.
So St. Anger round my neck, he never get's respect goes back to the fact that St. Quentin used to kill most of its inmates (but wasn't heard about), so I can definitely hear the "going around the neck" part. So playing for them was all about being heard about the things that happened on the inside; that's why they're chill with them. The whole chorus is them going wild on bad shit they've done in the past and they should also be in there with them, crazy, huh. They also make a reference to an earthquake, it is CA after all, it must feel crazy for inmates not being able to do anything trapped inside those small walls - so they get angry! No regrets is a bit too little to what they feel. Btw, I just made all of this up, lol. No disrespect to people in jail, they deserve ALL of our respect. I'm going to get so may dislikes on this, it's crazy.
Yes that's in San quinten. It's real.
Everyone makes fun of the drums on st. Anger so nice catch
When newer megadeth ?
Megadeth - Dystopia ( 2016 ) official video
Really good reaction ladies!! I love this band but everyone knows the story behind why it's their least liked album. They still rule though... as do you!!
The moment I knew we were never getting Metallica back. Yeah.. they've "improved" since but... eh... I've got those for 4 or 5 albums. I'm good.
Damage Inc. is a must 🔥
i don't think they need to have THAT massive of secureity concerns...
imagine: there is a band coming to your prison, and the band is METALLICA!!!!
one of the inmates gets the idea he could use that moment to take them hostage.
those few ppl will get stopped, before any guard catches any hint of it.
and those few ppl will never be seen again...
Please react to battery and frantic of metallica
One day Metallica looked in the mirror and said "Yo Yo Metallica Yo who do they call you Metallica Yo"? Said Metallica in a metallic voice.
It's kind of funny because it's arguably the best song on the whole album 😂
Nah
The unnamed feeling, sweet amber and all within my hands all better imo
You should react to Stevie Ray Vaughan. The GOAT guitar player
I think that part you're thinking of is from Master of Puppets.
The problem with this song/ the whole album are lars forget to tune his snare drum and kirk suddenly forget how to play solo guitar.
It's not so much that he forgot how to play solos, it's that they decided he wasn't allowed to do them this album. You've probably seen the Some Kind of Monster doc, so I won't rehash it, but it really explains a lot about why this album sucked.
@@dportnov It's still a shitty album.
And Hetfield forgot how to write good songs.
Oh they didn't forget, that snare was intentional, and like mentioned Kirk had a big argument with the others about this, saying if he didn't play solos on this it would make the album super dated as soon as that nu metal fad died out, which it totally did
Bob Rock played bass too on the album. Where’s Jason??
Lars “he focken left the band!!”
its a real prison
Hi girls now,I Recommend the song "Mama Said",this sound is country rock,is a song so sad
React to some kind of monster film!!
After the Black Album, Metallica was basically a completely different band.
Yes they played in San Quentin to real inmates.
