Not only do i like this song, I love the entire album.
Glad I'm not the only one
Same, the snare is not that bad. Even if it is, it's just something you have to get use to. Amazing riffs, amazing vocals. Just hope they'll remaster the album with better production, maybe more people would appreciate it more.
"DYERS EVE"!! Powerful lyrics from James 🔥
Most Metallica fans will hate me for this, but: This was the song that got me into their music and St. Anger is a fantastic album. There I said it.
My friend and I have been listening to it recently and we both honestly believe it’s the worst album ever made.
I’m not leaving this comment to make you feel bad or anything, it’s cool you like it and it’s still got some bits of songs but for me it’s just not the Metallica I fell in love with. ..And Justice for All is my favourite album. The guitar tones alone makes me feel more than St Anger and the ideology behind it etc.
I love the album.
Some Kind of Monster and Frantic are unhateable Songs
It’s definitely a slept on album considering what other heavy albums came out that year but even if it’s not a classic Metallica record it’s a nice listen for change of pace
Dude this means you like shit
"anger 'round my neck" might be referring to that your anger helds you hostage and you can't escape from it's influence on you
Metallica - Bleeding me.
You really should watch a live version from 2019 from this song 🤘🏼 I have seen it live and it was absolutely great 🤘🏼
st. anger around my neck is about feeling restrained
You two should definitely check out Dyers Eve. Amazing musicallity, amazing lyrics and it has an amazing solo. Its one of my favorites. Song is aggressive as hell and has one of the best moment of James he is singing it with such a anger. He talks about his parents and every verse starts with dear mother dear father.
No matter what you think about this, the music video hits hard.
This is probably the best song on the album with such a strong meaning
The St Anger part is about how Hetfield’s patron saint is anger, and how he has let it affect his decisions throughout his life.
And the recording quality is intentional. The band were on the brink of falling apart during the recording process.
Bob Rock is just a terrible producer. There is no redeeming St Anger, it is an atrocious album and if you didn’t know that you don’t know good music. No offence.
Making me laugh seeing all these comments praising St Anger. Humans are a funny bunch.
Lay off it you pretentious twit. I put no value as to whether it was good, I simply said that the recording quality was intentional. Which it was.
@@creativeamerican8811 Was he a terrible producer on the albums before? Of course not. As mentioned in the first comment that raw sound is intentional.
If that's true, it only makes the recording quality even more egregious. Sorry, but "going through some stuff" is no excuse for releasing an objectively shit recording and expecting fans to pay for it. And this came around the same time they were busy raging against Napster.
St. Anger was inspired by the St. Christopher medallion that James would wear. He's the patron saint for travelers. So a Saint protecting him while touring. In the song he was saying his patron saint is anger. Hence the "St. Anger" around his neck. And the "medallion noose" line.
Speaking of Metallica, did you see the little sisters (14, 12, and 9) called *The Warning* that did the viral cover of 'Enter Sandman' in 2014? Well, they've all grown up now and on their third album. Start with 'Evolve', 'Disciple', and 'Animosity'. I'll bring The Warning Army!
Love this song and the video is even better
I Remember hearing this live for the first time at the MTV Icon taping - it was raw and real, a fresh sound from these guys trying to find each other and find themselves as a band again after Jason left introducing Rob for the first time - it a very important and moving moment for them.... I love the sentiment in the song, James trying to let it out going thru his journey towards sobriety and his future w Metallica - "St Anger" was James' way of trying to describe his anger he was struggling with and describing it much like a necklace worn with a St Christopher or St Benedict pendant, his being a St. Anger that he wore instead of the other popular catholic saints people have as necklaces
People only hate this song because its the cool thing to do. Yes its not their best but a good song none the less
It's one of the best songs on that album.
I like it also. Old Metallica fans are too critical. Want them just stay the same
The term st anger means you are restrained by anger that’s what this song is about
I love this song it gets too much hate. Mostly the album gets the hate tho. This song is fine.
I have only two song from Metallica on my playlist... 'Some Kind of Monster' and 'Frantic'...from the St. Anger album....and I have a big respect for this song too....St. Anger - Metallica's best album...just because its so different from their 'standard' music
they were naughty making you listen to this song right away hahaha
I am a fan since Metal up your ass tape, i love this Song and like the album.
Older Catholics and some other denominations of Christianity wear "Saints" around their neck or wrists etc and pray to them for protection, such as Saint Peter. But James was calling Anger his Saint that he prays to and wears around his neck for protection.
St-Anger around your neck is a reference to necklaces that people wear sometimes with a medal portraying a saint on it like the patron saint of something.
Anger around my neck..... I always referenced it to the ➕ around my neck
. You were it . Some with pride . To show all . Etc.
She gets it! Do All Within My Hands
Don’t fall asleep on this album, there’s a few good gems in there. Perhaps it helps to know that this album came during the band’s most turbulent times. . It was part of their therapy to work through it.
That’s why it’s such a different tone than anything else they ever did. Jason had just left the band, James went to rehab and nobody knew if Metallica was even gonna come back again. Of course they did. Bob Rock filled in on Bass til Rob Trujillo came along and the rest is history.
Dope song 😂
on this album their producer Bob Rock played Bass after Jason Newsted left the band in 2001 after the release of St Anger in 2003 Robert Trujillo it was not a neckless it think it is about hanging correct me if i am wrong
More Slipknot reactions plz 🙏 enjoying your videos 👌
I think the "St Anger round my neck" refers to the grip that anger holds over someone. It can become like a religion (hence the necklace of a saint image) in that a person is so full of anger that they live their life according to it, just as some live their lives according to a religion. Again, this is supported by the video showing those who have become imprisoned, mostly due to their religion which is anger.
Huge Metallica fan, but always had a love/hate relationship with this song. You guys should check out Gürschach version of this St Anger. They made it what it should have been from the start.
i mean this album ended up being what they set out for it to be, for better or for worse. . jason had left the band, they were going through hard times and just starting new with a new bassists. . and everything seemed like it was coming to an end, this album ended up being a weird back to the beginning back to the garage starting over thing. . and while dont care for it too much i can respect what they were trying to do
Well better not make any album then
This album is different to their other albums, except that there is no guitar solo, and that translates through this album. It's definitely not my favorite album from them, but there are a few songs that I do like.
People that are MetallicA fans that hate on this album are simply haters, plain and simple. Every MetallicA album is vastly different from the last with the exception of their first two. I love this song and album, always have. It came out day after I graduated HS. "I see you"😅
The truths is , st Anger had to happened for Metallica to keep going.
Good reaction, I suggest you try the songs Play, freedom and Domination's official live videos from band-maid. Good day.
Plz do the uncensored version of "Turn the Page"
its a fine song hate the album but this is a fine song)
metallica Woodstock 99 bleeding me!!!!!!!!
One day Metallica looked in the mirror and said" Yo Yo Metallica Yo why do they call you Metallica Yo"?. Said Metallica in a metallic voice.
Lars bangs the shit out of those drums in this one
i like iт
Please react to All within my Hands
Next: Metallica - Some Kind of Monster
Only heard Lux Eterna once but thought it was typical Metallica fare...they never disappoint...even the St Anger album, which is generally not liked so much by many, actually is pretty good. It just lacks guitar solos.
Oh, I thought you meant the whole album, lol
This song made me give up on new music from metallica and that was 20 years ago. I've never listened to death magnetic because of st anger
React. Damage INC. by mettalica the best Epec.
Watch lives, pls
God that snare drum sucks 😂
Just ruins that song. I’ve never gotten over it
The drums sound like trash cans
