Some quick corrections: It’s 50g and not 500g difference 🤦♂️ And Apple has now reintroduced two NAND chips, bringing back the fast data transfer speeds.
ok i'm running a base M1 Macbook Air (8 GB / 256 GB) for 3 years now and the heaviest apps I use are Arc Browser and Figma (I design software). I also usually have 8-10 running simultaneously, with 2-3 active switching. With that use, mine is running great. Never thought about SSD speed or RAM speed or whatever, coz the software handles it all for you. Not the fastest or snappiest, but no noticeable slowdowns 99% of the time. so yeah, i'd suggest for most people, even the base M1 Air is excellent, especially if they're money conscious.
@@johhny.d. yes, I connect a 4k monitor about 20% of the time. That's where it runs into slowdowns after an hour or so, especially when using Figma full screen. That's because it heats up a lot and automatically slows down performance, from what I noticed. I have many ice packs lying around, so I use that for extended use (not ideal, but whatever). My next purchase would be a Pro precisely because of the fan, as it can handle extended use on a 4k monitor, without heating and slowing down as much. Again, this is specific to my use case.
@@chaitanya-jc4jz if you're learning currently then yes, M1 Air is enough. most people who need beefier systems, tend to know that already. if you're unsure, M1 Air is a safe bet. if you eventually decide to get more juice, you can always sell or trade-in your mac, they hold decent market value for a really long time.
There is differences if you want to nitpick. 2 NAND chips, WIFI 6E vs 6 on the M2, and 2 Display out if screen is closed on the M3. Also. the Midnight color on the M3 has that new seal like on the Space black on the M3 pro. I have the space black model and it is fine. go with midnight if you want it imho.
Unless you are in that super small niche of people that benefit from 10-20% short burst speed performance, there is no reason to get the M3. Get the M2 and put the saving towards accessories or if you want to get the M1, you’ll potentially save enough to upgrade RAM/storage which will be much more noticeable and useful than running a task for 60 seconds at higher performance.

I do agree with you. But Apple currently offers 8 gb of memory for M3 Pro macbook, which is beyond ridiculous. Air isn't meant for heavy workload, so it's kind of acceptable. For office tasks I cant feel any discomfort with M2 Air 15"
Great that dual monitor support was brought to the MacBook Air and will be coming to the base m3 macbook pro. I understand the software limitations of not being able to run two monitors and the built in display at the same time, but why must the lid be closed? I own an apple vision pro and when I use mac virtual display it blacks out my screen but I can keep using the trackpad and keyboard. Why not do the same thing for the m3 air and pro? Black out the laptop screen if connected to two external monitors but don't require the lid to be closed. That way people can still use the keyboard and trackpad and don't need to get an external keyboard and mouse. Seems like an easy software change.
Some months ago I saw a reddit thread where someone tested all sizes of SSDs on a (mini?). I wonder if anyone is still doing that - they showed that the best performance (by far) was in the 4TB and 8TB sizes.
@Oliur Sorry, but the information that you were given us is not correct regarding the SSD chips. May I suggest that you open up the M2 and M3 and see a difference? In the M2 MacBook Air, there’s only one 256 GB chip, but in the M3 MacBook Air, they have changed it to chips for 256GB May I suggest that you open up the M2 and M3 and see a difference.
It's ridiculous in 2024 not to offer 1 tb of disk space and 16 gb of ram, be it apple, Microsoft or anyone else. Devices with premium price need to offer premium specs, actually they are not even premium, nowadays these are cheap
Apple should stop selling basic features as Pro features. I would rather have the Air than the Pro since I don´t actually need the extra power. But dropping over a thousand on a 60hz laptop is a big no for me.
Mainly needing a travel computer for transferring pics and video to external SSD from camera and then working on work email and web browsing. Should I go base model or 16gb ram/512gb storage?

Apple MacBook Air 2024 15 inch M3 8 core CPU 16GB RAM 512GB SSD 10 core GPU MacOS Sonoma Is it good combination for graphic designers? To run adobe softwares
I would argue that if the difference in price of a M1 and M2 is ~$300 then just spring for the M2. If you keep the computer until it’s no longer supported in software then the newer is a better value
I can see where you are coming from with saying get the pro 14 inch over the.512gb version of the air. How does it compare in terms of weight and more importantly how much of a battery hit do you take having the m3 pro vs m3
Very good comparison and a detailed one! I think the only thing you missed mentioning is the screen bezel size on the m1 which is holding me from getting it. What are your thoughts on that? Do you think the M1 would be good enough for Swift UI Xcode? Or get M2? M1 Pro is good price but it's really huge 16inch and heavier.
Honestly, I think it looks more friendly/charming with those bezels. Either way doesn’t detract from using it. I recommend finding a good used one with like 60 charge cycles for $500. That’s $700 less than the base M3 (1100+tax) with double SSD speed and M1 is still very fast.
The screen actually has the same usable space in both m1, m3 and m2. in M1 it will hide the top menu, in M3 and M2 it will always be there and that eliminates the "extra" space that there seems to be.
I would so much want the Air with a mini-led screen. I don't understand why they refuse to make one. I would be willing to pay for it. I want the form factor and the lightness of an Air but with a fantastic screen. I don't want to go up to a heavy Pro model just to get the better screen. I'm just a normal user and don't need all the pro stuff. However... I want a great screen. Why Apple? Just charge us like you do with all other products. Would it be heavier, thicker perhaps?
I think it would hike up the price and the target audience (average student or general office professional) doesn’t require such a great screen for an entry level MacBook.
I guess... I'm just thinking it should be an option just like you can upgrade memory and pay for it, why not be able to upgrade the screen and pay for it? I think there's a market. @@anthonyt425
