Man I’ve been sick so my teacher told me what I missed and she didn’t teach me this cause I wasn’t there so I had to learn so much chemistry on my own and ur a huge help thanks so much.
@@TwoFor3 haha it went okay tbh! i ended up changing my major and moving schools though-i love chemistry but that university made it very tough for anyone to graduate and it just wasn't working out.
I got a Chemistry Final tomorrow and neither me nor my friends had any clue how do draw this, so thank you so much for helping all for me and lots of people in the UA-cam community!
Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for a short and exceptional video on How to Draw the Lewis Structure of Ionic Compounds in AP/General Chemistry. In writing the Lewis structure for a species, we include only those electrons in the outermost energy level. These so-called valence electrons are the ones that take part in covalent bonding. The number of valence electrons is equal to the group number in the classic Periodic Table. This is an error free video/lecture on UA-cam TV with the Organic Chemistry Tutor.
My text book is using stripes for a pair of electrons. I really dont get why, everywhere else I look its represented by just two dots. Also for an ionic compound they do not use brackets but four stripes around the element. Can it be a difference between Europe and USA? I'm really confused by this
The strips signify a pair of electrons ( two electrons ) that are bonded covalent. They aren’t supposed to be used in ionic bonds as ionic bonding doesn’t share electrons. You need to check the Electronegativity of each element before deciding if it’s going to be an ionic or covalent bond
Sorry if this is way too late but you can tell how many valence electrons are in an atom by looking at the periodic table and whatever column (the # is written above the column) it's in is how many it has. Hope that helps!
