GCSE Chemistry - What is Ionic Bonding? How Does Ionic Bonding Work? Ionic Bonds Explained #14

- Опубліковано 7 чер 2024
- Everything you need to know about ionic bonding!
Ionic bonds form when one atom transfers electron/s to another atom, so that both atoms forms oppositely charged ions. These ions are then attracted to each other by electrostatic forces which we call an ionic bond.
The video is based on the AQA 9-1 GCSE course but is suitable for all exam boards, and for both combined and triple/separate science.
If you’d like to practise the material covered in this video, check out our platform at www.cognitoedu.org - it's totally free, and has been built to make learning and revision as easy as possible. The main features are:
- Lessons organised by topic, only the lessons relevant to your specific exam board and tier are shown.
- Automatic progress tracking. Progress bars tell you what you’re doing well at, and what you need to spend some time on.

recently after covid, i was failing my subjects, well at least math and getting below average marks in pcb. I relied on your content for a while and used your website to practice past papers and the quizzes. i have improved in math and got a 71/80 in my sciences. somehow one of the teachers suspected i had cheated and took a extra test just for me. it was shorter than my previous one but i still scored a 45/50 on that test. I really appreciate your hard work that you do to make these videos. i hope you can now also implement AS and A level courses soon. Anyways thanks a lot for all that you do. - Just a student from India
Sounds like you’ve put a huge amount of effort in, that’s a fantastic improvement well done!
"- Just a student from India"
Man I feel you. The teachers in our schools are so preoccupied with things that _aren't_ about studying these days that I fear for what the future generations will have to go through. I'm sorry that you were suspected of being a cheat and for what it's worth, I'm happy that you showed them what's up with that 90%.
The fact that your teacher has no faith in you in making an improvement that when you improve greatly she jumps to conclusions and says that your cheating. Change teachers bruh
such an underated channel. keep up the great work!!
I'm afraid it is under-rated - I've just gobbled down 13 previous videos in the series before giving one like and clearly I liked them all ! Just thank you for the work involved here - my O levels are well behind me but this work makes me so jealous of all the youngsters who can get such a great start to their chemistry lives. - I'm on with the rest of the series so my weekend is fixed up nicely.
I'm so glad my physics and chemistry teacher showed us this channel, it helped so much with my work.
It's probably because he's a bad teacher
@@twp120 something called providing your students with a source of revision -_-
I write this as an IB student, you help me a lot in chemistry, physics and biology.
im also in IB im in myp 3

Thank you so much for making these videos! I have been through 4 chemistry teachers this year and ionic bonding never made sense to me but as soon as I watched this video the cogs finally clicked! Thank you so much Cognito!! Please could you do subjects like History and English
Thank you so much, Cognito! I'm a slow learner so I can't keep up as fast as the others while my teacher is teaching and this really helped me. I just found your website and I am definitely going to start using it and I hope my grades increase.
Awesome. It was simplified and to the point.
This guy made me understand in 4 min better than my teacher the whole year
look the way he explains is amazing BUT my brain is too dumb to function every second in this video😔

I feel like im hearing Tom Hiddleston voice, my fucos is on the voice 😂

Really happy to hear it helped - good luck with all your work :)
Life saver for exam thank you so much ❤❤❤❤
Pov : one day before exam

I couldnt get this concept even though my chem teacher explained it a load of times but finally understood it❤ thanks soo much
thanks so much cognito its very helpful
Damn…my exam’s on Wednesday and I have to complete the whole chemistry portion because I procrastinated so much. My sir has shared a 60 slide ppt with the same info this video delivered in like 5 mins! I’m gonna start learning from videos now lol.

Any tips for being interested in chemistry 😚😭
I just watched this video and I feel like i understand it more than learning it in class because i was absent on the day i was learning this so im happy to be catching up
Bro same, lol ^^
Thank you
This is top notch
"Share with your friends." Do I look like I have friends? Also, this video helped me a lot. So, thank you so much.

Salvaste mi vida, un tema que no entendí en una clase de 1h lo pude en 4 minutos
Thank you so much ♡
Thanks bro u made my life too easy and now I can finally pass the exam without me trying to think of a way to sweettalk my chemistry teacher into giving me the exam questions
Great and helpful as usual, thanks!
I really appreciate the fact that you give your best in those amazing videos! Im in MYP5 of IB really struggling with studying for my mock E-Assessments which are in 2days I m behind in studying but because of your videos I finished preparing for BIO and Physics and starting CHEM thankyou is not enough
Bros a life saver
Thanks so much for this. I wouldn't have gone to any other channel for help! This really makes me understand ionic bonding better and ties key information together so you're not overwhelmed with too many facts.
How do u know that the magnesium has 2 electrons on the outer most shell and the chlorine has 7?
I've watched so many of your videos! You're very clear with the explanation and make it easy to learn. Thank you so much :))
thanks for the help
Bro this channel is sooooooo underrated! I wouldn't have passed my chemistry test without this vid. thx
Ah thank you Akhil, well done on your test 🙌
My favourite channel for revision ,,,almost finished watching them all!!
3:08 how do you know how many electrons are on the outer shell?
Useful
It helped a great deal. Thanks!
فهمت شويه الحمدالله
Amazing video, keep up the great work! :)
I'm the 1500th like, so it's cool, also love the videos and i'm sharing it to all my friends to help them revise gcse chem :)
Thanks Techiester, we appreciate it!
When Na transfers an electron, it's outermost shell is empty, not full. Do we just pretend it isn't there and then call the next furthest shell from the nucleus the valence shell then?
Whoselse just started the day before the exam ????
Great video! This topic is very confusing so thanks very much!
I know right. Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding really confused me
I love your style, the drawing is superb!
Thank you so much 😀
Why magnesium bond with Cl2 but Octate and douplete rule of Mg is complete so please give me answer with Refference
thanks for such short and easy videos...
Can you make videos on igcse computer science too?
thaaanx this was so helpful💜💜
the goat. Thanks
Isn't that a Redox reaction between Na and Cl? 0:56
thanks a lot I followed along and made lots of notes. this video really helped me out alot!!! time to go watch your covalent bonding video... ill leave a comment there as well!
Thank you, glad you found it helpful 😊

barely passing chem. i understand a concept and then in the test when theres a question on it i get confused and end up barely passing or failing. it sucks because i am trying

Hi thanks for all your help
You really deserve more Tha what you really have
Thank u soo much got a lot of ideas
Does it look like i have friends
I will be ur friend
How is that relevant to anything😭
how do you know how many are in the outer shell to start with?
u find out what group its in and that will be the number of electrons in the outer shell
you look at the element in the periodic table and you look at the number on top of it then you check the group to see the number of shells
7
Thank you so much for the video, your videos were amazing and let me understand this lesson in chemistry.
You are saviour 🙌
Thanks mate😢 I wouldnt listen in class but i need good grades😭✋✋
tysm!!
oh wow i dont remember watching this before but im here again cause my gcse is after tomorrow LOL tysm again
guys you literally moved me from a f to a b...i rly appreciate it yall
If sodium loses an electron, then will it have its outer shell destroyed?
No then the second last one will become the new outer shell.
This guy teaches better than my chem teacher
How do we know how many outer electrons they have though?

I love you man
