I used to think that, but now there are things about him that show he's not lovely. He sleeps until noon, he doesn't help her at all around the house, he is inconsiderate by watching TV at full blast. He disrespectful her grandfather by having sex and impregnating her. I disagree, i think its good for people to see what depression looks like and can do to a person. Especially men who are told to suck it up, pull yourself up and get shit done because your the provider. Remember Brandon was sucidal when he first met Mary. I'd imagine he's been depressed a long time. Brandon probably has almost all of the 6 criteria. Parents that split up, substance abuse in family, violence in family, prison in family, abandonment from parents, etc. It's pretty interesting stuff. I have seen this plenty of times. Her constant berating and emotional manipulation has broken down Brandon, and I can tell he’s depressed and lost. Dude gave her his entire life savings, and that is still not enough for her. She will never be happy until she gets and commits to therapy. She needs lots of therapy cause she is really toxic.

This is straight up depression. I went through the, having no motivation to do anything, also I isolated myself. I didn't want to be around anybody. I was always in a bad mood so to me this does seem like depression. Also, I was in a very toxic relationship like he is but different and it did not help with my depression. So it is also on her to get better and not be such a psycho jealous bitch and be so toxic towards him. He needs to be able to get a job and get away from there and be able to help provide for his family which might give him purpose and help with the depression.
as a filipino myself, who was raised with filipino parents, my mom is exactly like mary, minus the posessiveness bit, shes very toxic and always make herself the victim, twists the story to make me or whoever look worse and its very draining for me and my dad.
Kim and TJ seem to like each other, their only real conflict is over TJ’s in-laws and having to live with them. Even with the apartment, I think she was so upset because it was in their house, and she didn’t want to be there in the first place, so having it be ok for her was supposed to be the compromise to make living there more bearable.
I do not feel bad for Danielle, we knew what Yohan wanted from day 1 and she did as well. She made a lot of promises to him she is not keeping, he is over it.
It's important to note that cultural shock has several stages. After the joy and excitement of the first few days/weeks, comes the nostalgia, the regret, the disapproval. What Brandon is going through is not pathological, is socio-cultural. It's a well known phenomenon and it's very very normal. No need to diagnose him as depressed.

Parents that split up, substance abuse in family, violence in family, prison in family, abandonment from parents, etc. It's pretty interesting stuff.
