The fact that a 60 year sentence can be instantly suspended by a single judge’s emotional change of heart, shows there is something grossly wrong with American law.

I used to work as a court usher in the UK and we'd always know how each day's hearings would go depending on A.) which judges were in court and B.) what mood they were in. Neither should affect the sentences handed out, but they certainly did. Obviously this is a very extreme case, but it shows just how much power they have and how their mood/impulse can change people's lives so dramatically!

The punishment should fit the crime. 60 years for breaking probation is ridiculous. Even though he suspended it, being on probation for 50 years is also incredibly excessive. You lose so many of your rights while on probation & you’re at the mercy of the system during that time. The judge should have just done the normal sentencing & had him in jail for 10 years or so at most then probation after that for 5 or so years. The sentence shouldn’t cover his entire life unless he committed something like murder or rape.

Allowing judges to have this kind of power over sentences will allow them to show mercy just as much as it will allow them to be unjustly harsh.

He’s out. A suspended sentence means just that. That’s it was suspended. He probably walked free a few hours later.
However that 60 years will hang over his head for the rest of his life. Because any violation and he will have to serve the sentence in custody rather than in the community.

robert bass Simple stay clean and don’t commit any crimes. There are hundreds of millions of Americans who are capable of doing it. They do all kinds of jobs from driving Uber to delivering pizza to washing dishes and cutting vegetables at a restaurant. This guy could do these things. Robbing and stealing is wrong.

Stian Nygård where are u from ? A place with no freedom I’m guessing. Living in the land of the free you give up some security, but it’s because your free. We have guns to protect ourselves. Equal opportunity everywhere we go. No permanent social classes and no one to tell us what to say. Continue to live in a country without all these and eventually you’ll get fed up 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️. Viva la America.

Master Bowler more freedom than any other country/state. There’s places where women cant show anything but their eyes. America definitely seems like freedom, not 100% but there is some freedom.
