This is true for too many people in prison, many of whom were significantly traumatized as little ones. Now, I'm not saying predators should ever be released, but statistics show that 40% of the US and UK prison population are people with Borderline Personality Disorder and those are people who NEED intensive therapy, not prison.
PTSD in adulthood will turn your life upside down, so imagine what it does to a child's developing brain.
So glad you are helping others. People NEED to know they can get out and, with some patience and perseverance, get back to living a productive life.

Former CO here. When I was at the facility, my favorite block to work was the “isolation unit” reserved for those who committed the most heinous crimes. It was basically all former death row guys. I used to greatly enjoy talking with this one inmate who had been incarcerated since the early 90s. It was like having a conversation with a living time capsule from my childhood. This man would speak with me about stores, businesses, and places that had closed 20+ years ago - but in the present tense. He never used a “car phone” or “the internets.”
I would absolutely love to speak with joe or just walk around Philly with him for a day!

This may sound weird, but I bet mentally he's still a teenager. I got locked up at 18 and did 6 years in prison, and although my physical age was 24, mentally I was not. I had never paid rent, never paid a water bill or electric bill, never had taken care of a child, never even had much of a real job. Basically, I didn't know what it meant to be an adult or even really how to act like an adult. I knew how to survive in prison, and that was it. Responsibility I knew nothing about. So I can't imagine being incarcerated at an even younger age and then being locked up for so long.

Presley had no 'Career' in the 1953 to 1956 era...although he was employed, it was not as an entertainer nor 'recording artist'.
The 'Beatles' history is very well-documented...and as Lennon said "We really didn't do much of anything until Richie came in
and Martin liked us a little and we got a contract and all that...that's when everything really started to happen for us and we got to record our own music instead of doing 'covers' most of the time because in clubs and things we had to play the tunes that the kids all knew...we really weren't all that good until the Hamburg thing and all that because we played constantly then...that's what made us the 'Beatles' everyone knows".

I suppose going away so young, it just becomes another way of life. It’s hard to read that fact but I would like to think he found some sort of comfort in the life that he did have inside, hopefully made friends and still had some meaningful experiences.
