I don’t know if I’d go that far with it. The new ownership isn’t so involved in the day to day a la Dan Snyder, but I do think this will be a learning lesson for them that you can’t just dump money into it and have instant success. Tepper hasn’t learned that despite repeated instances, I think the Bronco’s ownership group is a little bit more level-headed than that.
But only time will tell.
One little problem with your point -- the Broncos new ownership _wasn't_ the one that traded for Wilson or offered him that contract. Nor were they the ones who hired Hackett. A case can be made that they inherited a bad situation and have at least taken steps to turn it around.

Pat, you guys aren’t talking about Russ being terrible. He may be a cancer in the locker room as well. Carrol kicked him to the curb, Hackett couldn’t do anything with him, and Payton obviously has reached a decision that Russ ain’t it. Especially if Payton is willing to lose that much against the cap.
Finally someone reports it correctly - over 2 years. Not that it’s less devastating, but imagine having to cram your roster under 150m for 1 year.
The Browns trading for and then signing Watson to that deal is the worst mistake in NFL history. This is not a mistake this is a team taking a huge hit in order to correct an earlier mistake which was acquiring Wilson in the first place.
Yeah I was rooting for you guys as a Bears fan when Baker was there. He was playing through an injury and they just threw him away after taking you guys to the playoffs after a long time. What a shame.
He's a competitor; he's crazy accurate with the football, and he has something to prove. He's lost some mobility; so, any team with a decent O-line; in need of a QB would be nuts not to give him a shot. That includes teams that think they have their QB. Some of you may remember his 2012 rookie year. Seattle thought they had their QB. They had just out bid many NFL teams for Matt Flynn, GB's talented back up for Rodgers. They also had Tarvaris Jackson. It was assumed one them would start. Many thought Russ wouldn't even make the 53 man roster.. He beat them both.

No one is going to play Russ more than his vet min. If some GM is dumb enough to pay him more than 39 million, he should be fired immediately. The BRONCOS should have Interviewed Russell Wilson Ex-Wife before Trading for Him. She would have told them that Russell is a Limp QB.
I remember calling it that signing Russ to that massive extension immediately before he even played a down was a bad idea.
That said though, I don't think anyone was expecting how bad his run would be. I was among the more pessimistic, but I at least thought they'd hold onto him for 3 or 4 years.
