Greetings Maurice, as a longtime gearhead, both 2 and 4 wheels, but primarily 2, I have always had a love for Italian supercars, especially Ferrari's. The California was introduced at the Paris autoshow in 2008, and was met with more than a little scepticism. The fact that being a front engined V8, certainly not the norm in Ferrari's history , and that the California actually started out as a Maserati project that became too expensive but the research and development process was too advanced to cancel just added fuel to the fire for disdain. Ferrari's own marketing nomenclature at the time stated it's styling was meant to attract a 50 percent ratio of women buyers. In all honesty, there is some credence to the criticism of the Coke bottle -kick swage-line on the doors. Some said it was corny and overdone. Compared to OTHER Ferrari's, perhaps. But, I think if you step back, the overall look is stunning, if not just a tad chunky. But nothing is perfect, the overall car is still beautiful. The example here, in kinda a slate gray, is very nice. I had to chuckle a bit when Mrs Wizard pointed out the 240 mile per hour speedometer. No, the car won't go that fast, the top speed of a California is around 198 miles per hour ( which I believe is fast enough!) The back seating arrangement( right!)was originally designed many decades ago( for these types of exotic G.T. cars) to just offer enough storage space for luggage for a weekend getaway for your mistress and yourself. That's where the term 2 +2 came from many decades ago. You are correct era wise on the introduction of the 458, it was 2009. When introduced, the 458 was the marque's most powerful v8 road car ever. Anything wearing the prancing horse insignia is stunning and timeless( with one possible exception, a mondial 8 from 1981!),and I lust whenever I attend a Italian autoshow. But, I tell myself to be satisfied for possessing a very cherry jaguar XJ8.Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!!!!!!

Definitely a Fiat/Chrysler partnership product. My 2012 Jeep Liberty Limited has the same radio head unit. The first California I ever saw in person was on the Chicago north side. A man pulled it out of a parking spot up to a red light, then activated the drop top. I was mesmerized by the mechanism as it went through its paces. It then went on its way. A beautiful Ferrari in every way. ✌🏻🇮🇹
I’d buy this. I’ve had 7 Ferrari’s since 1985, but always the ones people look down on. Four 308 GT4’s, a Dino which was considered not a proper Ferrari, too at launch, and a Mondial 3.4t & now at Mondial 3.2 Coupe. The fact is Ferrari do not make rubbish cars. I chose the 3.2 as they are used for Historic Ferrari Racing & the engine is reliable. The handling is wonderful and I just had the Koni Dampers rebuilt for this year to sharpen it up for trackday use. I deliberately chose a high mileage car with a full history. I’ve got it up to 73,450 now. English owners try to keep the mileage low! Crazy. I like the idea of the California for daily use in the sunny days, being newer it is probably more useable in Cities than my Mondial. The Mondial was designed for crossing Europe in comfort and it’s fine at that! The advantage of the cars people look down on is they cost less to buy! Mine has increased in value by £8k since I bought it despite using it a lot! The running costs are similar to my Saab 900! It is manual, no powering steering, no ECU and little to go wrong. The California will be more costly on service but look how fabulous it is. All this talk of its not a Ferrari is rubbish, it’s not intended for high speed racing. It does a fine daily driver job.
This is why you are the man WIZARD. People who say “the California isn’t a REAL Ferrari”, usually drive a Corvette or a Mustang. I would take this California over a Mustang or Corvette ANYDAY 😂
That car has at least $50K of extras from the carbon ceramic brakes to the carbon steering wheel with the LED display and quilted leather seats and leather dash. Also "scarico olio" is translated oil discharge or drain not that it matters to the Wizard!

@@steveapel2961 What Ferrari do you own Steve? Those are bar talk, if I may correct you. The Ferrari California and its engine has been exposed for a long time at an exhibition at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, and Ferrari corporate itself putting it among the "Timeless masterpieces". Michael Schumacher himself took part of the California development and road testing.
@@Isalei84 hi, you're the reason I stopped replying to this stuff. After 6 months of my article, you're gonna critize my comments??? I don't know why, maybe it's just jealously ( since everything is pretty accurate in my article, look it up) , but you claim it's " bar talk". Lastly, unlike many I've been on numerous racetracks in my life. Have you??????????

I never seen a convertible work like that awsome
Nice car. I can not wait to see the progress with the bus. The bus, the Chevelle, 100 Percent Jake's "new" BMW and Weird Beard's 72 Fury are my favorite projects to see progress.
YES! I would take the Ferrari California over the Mustang or Camaro.... Until it's time to service it or repair it. That's when you find out if you can *really* afford the car.
The transmission new is 25-35K with labor. However you can get used transmissions under 10k.
I think old Ferraris or halo Ferraris like 288 got, f40 f50 Enzo etc look amazing in red. But I love the more “common” Ferraris in different colours
I was thinking it also looks very similar to my 2013 Volkswagen Passat nav unit.
As a Ferrari owner, I never look or use the radio head unit. I listen to the wonderful engine sound.
Very cool California, looks great. I worked on one not long ago, there is video of it on my channel. Thanks Wizard for showing.
I would like to see that Nova finished, please show the Nova after its finished 🙏
As soon as I opened up TDU2 for the first time I instantly fell in love. Definitely a big dream of mine.
Love 💕 the styling on this car. Color I could take or leave. This car looks like a daily driver. Not some impractical toy. 💖💗💙♥️👍😎
Been waiting for you to get your hands on the California - we love ours and it is a perfect daily driver
I would love to have a Ferrari like that as a daily driver I am scared to death. I currently have a Porsche Panamera 4S as a daily driver and that car has been extremely reliable.
Having a lowered car starts to suck my weekend car is basically slammed 🤦♂️, getting to b too much to get in and out but damn does it look good , especially this California! Gotta love Ferrari
12:58 Ferrari goes full Batmobile
Those rear seats are only there for the insurance company. Just the same as many other two door sports cars, Porsche, Mustang, Camaro, etc.
“I’d take this over your Mustang, or your Camaro, or your Corvette any day.” 💯
I'd take that over my Mustang in a heartbeat. But it's three to four times the price and maintenance is outrageous.
Several years ago I talked to a teaching physician who drove a California as a daily driver until the California T came out and then he traded up. Then the Portofino came out and you guessed it.
These cars are for the connoisseur, the best experience and need to be cherished to continue to be great. If you can afford it, treat yourself
Italians know sheetmetal and leather.Mrs wizard knows colors!
They don't know reliability though 🤷
Did anyone notice that the drivers side front tire was on the lip of the lift?
Wow, the wizard looked really cool in that car in the first shot
Wizard… Tupac says “California knows how to party”. I can see how you heard it wrong though.
Good thing he has deep pockets. There is a very good reason people do not "Daily" them. The same reason most people treat them as museum pieces.
Nothing says California Ferrari like a custom convertible hardtop.
🤩😍🤩😍
The Car Wizards has the coolest walk on UA-cam. I'd love to see a continuous loop video of him just waddling around on his stubby little legs with Pantera's WALK as the background music!
Can't you see, I'm easily, bothered by BEEMERS
More of a waddle
Second time you posted this comment 😂
@@2amSpeedMerchant He usually posts the same comment for every video.
A buddy of mine got a California 2 yrs ago...to daily drive...good video.
Ay! The "California" changed my assumption about Ferrari's front-engine layouts. Excluding the most beautiful "OLD Ferraris" of course.
Motor in the right place, the way our good lord intended. Drive that puppy! Life is too short and unpredictable. Just beautiful.
As long as you keep up yearly maintenance and software updates great daily driver.
I know someone with a Volkswagen Eos with a convertible top that operates very similar. But it’s probably not quite as fast on the road
Oh nice! He just bought that off of Mike Davenport! Mike's Car Store in Indiana... He's the best! Period!😉👍
There is literally nothing like a Ferrari! Awesome car.
