I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Another great video. I watch a lot of catfishing videos and lives. I do a fair amount of catfishing when I can…..I’ll say I enjoy watching your channel more than any one else’s. You do a good job with your explanations and I like that you are genuine to yourself and not trying to produce a false over excitement for every bite. Nice to see some rods that make sense available. I have been shopping for a couple dedicated catfish rods since I have been doing more catfishing lately. 95% of what is out there seems like overkill. These companies are just rebranding deep sea party boat bottom fishing rods. I have tried those out with friends and just don't like them and don't see the necessity in them. I have have always just used my old 7'+ medium heavy bass rods and they have worked just fine except for when I want to go up to 4 oz in weight. They limit me to 2-3oz sinkers. I caught a 65# blue from the bank with an old 7'6" heavy action flippin stick with no problem. When I came across these so called "bumping" rods I chuckled because they are the basically just old school heavy bass flippin sticks with a slower action.

According to my MDC fishing app fish, fish guide info. a bluecat "never" has the dark spots. Also, if I counted properly, your fish has 28-29 rays on the anal fin. They list 30-35 for a bluecat & 24-29 for a channel. I won't say you're wrong, but I'd say it's a nice size channel as opposed to a relatively small blue! Thanks for the videos, you do a great job.
They breed hybrid blue/channels around here for the fins lakes that they stock. Could have possibly been a hybrid. Looked like a blue to me with just a brownish color. Thanks for watching.
I see nothing but channel catfish...
Wasn't a channel cat amongst them. The book is probably right on the fin count but my eyes aren't quick or good enough to count those fin bones during the video. You can tell by the longer straighter anal fin of the blue as opposed to the shorter rounder anal fin of the channel cat. We just didn't have a channel cat to compare them to.
@@jackyhallmark3094 I think Hagen hit the nail on the head. He says there are hybrids between blues & channels in his area. If you pause the video at the right point, you can easily get an accurate count on the rays. The fin wasn't as sharply flat like most blues, but not quite as rounded as most channels. The MDC app claims that blues "never" have the dark spots, but I'm wondering if a hybrid between the two could be the exception to that?

You sold me on getting a TWC medium rod. I use the Cat Maxx reels, have had no problems with them. I have Abu garcias, but the cat maxx actually outcast them for half the price... Thank You for your videos...

I like the Shakespeare catfish rods. Med heavy and white. Caught a 30lb blue the other day and that rod bend was epic! Only $40 rods, but well worth it.

You sure make it look easy to net a fish by yourself. Any tips would be appreciated. I just fish on the bank. I usually hold my pole w my left hand, so I guess it wouldn't be too hard to use my right hand w the net. Too many years of close-faced reels. I switched my handles on my spinning reels. Lol.

Just recently discovered your channel and love it! Great content for the average fisherman. I fish the last pool of the Kentucky River where it dumps into the Ohio. Pretty good fishing there also.

Hey if you turn the A scope on in 2D it will show at the bottom of the A scope how wide the beam is at the bottom. It can be nice to know if the beam is 4ft or 20ft wide.

I was reading the newest in fisherman catfish mag tonight and saw in an article about a hybrid channel/ blue catfish maybe that's what you caught. I'd like to try those TWC rods. Great video Brother
I think it could have possibly been a hybrid. I actually mentioned that when I caught it but edited it out because I was starting to ramble about it lol. From what I’ve seen they look more like a blue than a channel and sometimes have spots. I know they farm raise them around here for the public ponds at the parks so maybe a few ended up in the river. Can I ask what's the difference in bumping and regular suspended rods?
Bumping is when you have the rod in your hand and you are bouncing the sinker on the bottom as the current takes the bait farther and farther down river. The reason for the bumping is to know you are in contact with the bottom. Suspending is normally just keeping the bait a few feet off the bottom while the rod is in the rod holder. I have a lake where I get 10lb channels quite a bit and they look like that but black when big with huge foreheads and uneven jaw lines I wonder if they are hybrids, you can't get any blue cats but they stocked them back in the day 🤔

Looks like a blue - channel cross breed . I have caught a couple like that in our local lake and they were considered to be a cross. I hope that doesn't continue to happen . Thanks
Very possible, they breed the hybrids here to stock in the ponds at the parks because they grow faster. Maybe it got in the river some how. Thank you for watching 👍

Hey man what brand 3-way swivels do you use? I’m having trouble finding ones that are rated for big blues
I get them from Amazon, not any specific brand but most of them have a pound test rating and I get 90-120lb breaking strength. I’ve never broke one. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Thank you for watching and good luck👍

How much 30lb line do you think the cat Maxx holds
