Just thought I'd add, looking back now it seems the Scandinavian extreme metal scene sure liked their Boss distortion pedals: Boss HM-2 - of course, Nihilist / Entombed, Carnage / Dismember, At The Gates, Bloodbath, & others ...
Boss Metal Zone - At The Gates, Marduk ... Boss DS-1 - Grave ... Boss DS-2 - Dissection. Any others I have not mentioned, feel free to add them. \m/
Much like the HM3 and DOD/Digitrch Death Metal, it may not be THE chainsaw, but it does bring an interesting saw to the party.
These are underrated pedals. Perfect for metal.
yep, good pedal indeed. probably best distortion i've tride. simple and good sounding even as backup preamp with ir.
Demigod also used this pedal with Marshall amps for "Slumber of sullen eyes" according to Seppo Taatila.
Is it weird I especially liked it on those more open chord-y parts? Had this neat melancholic, old tone to it.
Nope, definitely my favorite part of the song. In combination with the pedal it sounds awesome!

I have a fond memories stacking this with the big ass Big Muff NYC. It sure does the Frusciante tone really well. And yes, I vote for the Chainsaw video.
my first pedal in the 90s..and i still love it
Good to see this video, I was looking out for it. The DS-2 sure did sound best in Turbo mode, especially in the amp's distortion channel where it did start getting into chainsaw territory. I think that part of it is worth more attention, so +1 from me on a chainsaw files video on the DS-2 and compare it to the HM-2, I think you will find some similarities, including both pedals have the same coloured knobs 😂

bought and arrived today. in mode one and tone at maximum it's a good sound with g12t-75 ir a little more dark than my usual preamp but useable for sure. i made a a/b test with my marshall mgp9004 preamp nad ds-2 into my audio interface. probably with a power amp with presence could be better too.
The sound reminds me the Øynstein Aarseth tone.
The second mode sounds kvlt as FUUUUUCK

I've got one of these on my pedal board!
I use with a footswitching to go between modes (into a clean channel solid state amp. Sounds good)
I came here in hopes of finding a good 80s marshall esque gain pedal for traditional doom with more tweakability than just an amp. So far, youtube videos look pretty promising. Highly considering buying this thing. All needs to be done is turn back that tone knob and black sabbath, trouble and candlemass comes alive....I HOPE
I own that pedal. I don't like the sound that I am getting from it on any setup when I hear the guitar alone. But it cuts trough music and sounds awesome when playing over.

strange but i prefer mode 2 into effect loop me too. with tone pot high it's a good sound, different to a regular amp with his own tone controls.

How well would this pedal hold up when playing Gaahl-era Gorgoroth songs or any other black metal of the sort?
Well it was an okay pedal, I wasn't super impressed but it did it's job.I will give it 6.7/10 chainsaws
But it is clearly not a chainsaw ... but it is a really good alternative for a fuzzyless superdisto.
For Black Metal it is a really good pedal.
