Anyone else missing the 90s and their grandparents while watching this? 😢😢
I still had 3 of my grandparents back then , i would give anything to go back to that time , even just for a bit . As a kid you don’t realize how special and truly amazing those times are until you are older and sometimes it’s to late .
Yes. The chimes around 2:58 definitely took me back to when I was little.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 👍🏻✝️
Missing the 90's and my TEENS! I'd go back and stay stuck there forever.
Yes, the part with the Christmas trees and bells at 6:22 got me
Things were so much more simpler in the 90s. I know every decade has its issues. But I truly miss the 80s and the 90s. Especially during the holidays. It felt magical. I can’t explain it. I’m sure everyone in their late 30s-40s knows what I’m talking about. Technology also really ruined our human to human skills. Not one person distracted from a cellphone or iPad. Bring me back 😭 and my grandparents and older relatives that have passed.
9/11 ruined things too
Then dump the device you’re using to watch this? You don’t need it.
I agree. It was different times and far better than today. I wouldn’t mind going back myself. Society nowadays sucks!
@@theladynextdoor313 same here! Some people just don’t understand it either!! Things were just so much simpler. Now a days, you don’t even know your neighbors. Sad!
@@kathleenking47 I agree! After 9/11 everything changed and not for the better.
Wow no fighting or stampedes, no smart phones, nicer people, built in food counters, better quality Christmas items and a great shopping experience without loads of digital distractions and problems. Really miss these types of stores and wish we could have places like this back again.
you all were a bunch of slackers not like the old ole 1920 we dressed nice and had real conversations you all with your big retail chains they don't even know your names we fought a war what did you ever do
They had riot squad police to handle these mad women shoppers ,so there
So true! I miss it too so much!
don't get it twisted there was plenty of fighting back in the day. my father told us stories of people fighting over Cabbage Patch Dolls around Christmas time in the 80s
They still had A320's and CD players back then.
Okay, the grandma's purchasing the butter cookies is melting my heart and bringing back SO much nostalgia! My biggest takeaways from this video, is that people are more civilized than we are in modern times. Everyone looks more put together, healthier, happier, nicer, etc. The store looks like the employees take pride in it and their appearance. I miss these days! We really didn't know how good we had it!
As time moves on, humanity gets more depraved! It is just the opposite of evolutionary theory that teaches we are evolving for the better. We are evolving technologically speaking, but morally or socially, we are sinking fast! The world used to be a better place. God help us!
I noticed a woman grabbing the sewing kit.
@@NotAsGoodAsItUsedToBe 🤣🤣🤣
The nostalgia is REAL girl! I miss my grandparents and the 90s so much!!! But it’s worth considering the flip side. Back then, there was a lot of pressure to maintain a certain appearance and conform to societal expectations. While everything seemed more polished and composed, it often came at the cost of individual authenticity. Today, there's more freedom to be ourselves and embrace our differences, which can be a relief from the constant need to fit a particular mold. It’s a trade-off between the polished exterior of the past and the more relaxed acceptance of diversity we see now.
These videos are comforting, and remind me of when the world made sense. I'd _live_ in some of these videos, if I could, but we'll sadly never see times like this again.
You miss the simple things like all the older ladys hanging out at Kmart running to the next blue light special
@@Jim26D🤣
never say never. Things change.
I understand what you're saying... ☹️
Moved away from home, in 78 ...as a teenager, 61 years old, I came to live with my aunt, all the the people that I've known, from my teenage years, have all passed away 😔😢.....
Why not? It’s all attitude & behavior! 😢😢😢

It's such a blessing to be able to say you lived in this world. Doesn't matter if you were an infant or 50 years old at the time 💖.
A blessing and a curse. We remember an age when things were much better.
If only we appreciated it more, at the time. Don't think any of us could even begin to imagine the world live in today.

I'm 50 now haha. But to be honest, here in the South, it's not too different now than it was in this video in a lot of respects.

Don’t really care if you admit it or not, MAGA was never the problem. It was a reaction to all that had occurred during Obama’s term - most of which went completely over your head, and continues to do so. Good luck with your mental illness. Not for your sake, but for the people who suffer you.

Jesus, I'm here tearing up at a video of folks shopping at Woolworth's. I was only 8 years old at the time. Makes you realize just how precious and short our journey on this big blue ball is.
You and me both… really does make you want to cherish even more the seconds we’re still granted on this plane. But boy, was this a time to be alive. I have such a lump growing in my throat while watching this and hearing all the holiday sounds. If only…
Woolworth's store went out of business so many years ago. I remember shopping and going to the malls and people got along and its sad now what has happened to us as a society NOBODY cares and no values anymore its 2023 and it will be 2024 in January 1.... this makes me sad to think about x-mas now or even back then when everything was jumping... now everything is shit now.

Just for one day I wish I could time travel back and go to these stores.
Then travel your ass back what are you waiting for 🐑
Just one….. day I would like to go back there and live
No me too. If time travel was possible. I would liquidate everything I now own, organize the $ into the kinds bills they were using in each era, and I would just fool around in the past, shopping. I always imagined going to Bergdorf's in the 50s - I never dreamed real-life shopping would become such a drag that I'd be nostalgic about 1990s Woolworth's, but it has & I'd see you there. Omg lol now I just shared my innermost nerd thoughts

Me too. I miss Newberry's and Woolworth stores.
Im so glad i grew up in the 70s 80s 90s!!! Sooooo much more calmer and respectful to each other. If u heard someone curse it literally stopped the world
I love how everyone is neatly dressed, hair is done and makeup on women is not exaggerated. Shoppers acting like real humans!
Are you suggesting the de-evolution of society?
@@thedelightfullytacky No, they are suggesting that we evolve to become normal human beings that respect themselves & others again, like they did in the 90's.
Human beings now act as if they are animals instead of people, with absolutely no self-control, no shame, class, dignity, or respect. It's disgusting.
Also, makeup is supposed to highlight your features & make them stand out, or to cover blemishes here & there. It's NOT supposed to cover all of your features altogether, or to paint a completely new face onto yourself where you either look like a lady of the night who charges for the hour, or a drag queen clown- not a good look... but I guess that is a pretty accurate representation of our society today, what they value, & how they live- absolutely disgusting, & not a good look at ALL.

People looked well dressed and groomed! Dear Lord what a contrast to what we experience today!
Sad sad day indeed!
Yeah man. Wake up. Jeez

A stark absence of digital distractions, self-important ignoring of one another, and loathsome general distain of your fellow man. The things you had more of then, were friendliness, a sit-down lunch counter, cash transactions, and real excitement over brick-and-mortar retail experiences. We could have hardly imagined what a sweeping change, the new decade would bring! So glad we have these interesting time capsules, here on UA-cam.

What a different time, no pushing or shoving, lots of cashiers and a nice lady waitress.
Walmart ruined this type of store experience by creating a store where everything is bottom-of-the-barrel (the products selection, the quality of the products, the way they treat their workforce). Look how nicely everything is laid out and how the store is crowded with goods without being trashy. Look at the pride the Woolworth people take in their appearance and the appearance of the store. Walmart came in and basically put all these stores out of business by underpaying their workforce and now we have all sorts of trashy places like Dollar General and Dollar Tree, where there are u-boats of product sitting in the aisles waiting to go on the shelves, understaffed and stressed store workers and people with no health insurance. Walmart has been a plague on the US.
Absolutely spot on! So sad, but so true...
I was a manager at a Dollar General in GA in 2017-18. You would not believe how absolutely cheap that company is. They only staff the stores with 2 people at any given time, and one of them is always a part timer. Its on the managers to stock the store, as well as help the other employee cashier if need be, handle all the other store duties and so forth. I worked evenings, and the part timer would not come in till 6, so from 3pm till then, I'd be alone, and no way I could have gotten to all the stuff they want you to do. During the 2017 holidays, it was an absolute mess in the store I worked in, and me and the other 2 managers could barely keep the shelves stocked, which we would get in trouble for from the district manager. They would not hire any seasonal help, or allow anyone to stay after hours and do some stocking or even some cleaning. In fact, the closing manager has to be out of the building by 20 mins after closing, or they start calling and asking why you are still there. I ended up quitting about 3 months into 2018 after constantly getting barraged by the DM over things it was virtually impossible to do. I have no idea how they find people to work in these places anymore. The one I worked at, since the pandemic, is only open from noon till 8pm now days, because they are short of help. And they keep opening new ones in my area, which are also on limited hours due to them not being able to find staff. Its mindblowing.
@@treysimmons7707 This is all so true. Every time I go into one of their stores (in fact, I was just in one today), the lone employee looks totally exhausted and overwhelmed, between trying to unpack stock and fill-in the shelves, while customers are lining up at the register and hitting the counter bell, because they don't want to use the one self-service bay. That's why the first thing one notices when entering the store are signs that state that they're hiring. I would guess employee turnover to be quite high.
@@birdsfan57 And I forgot to mention more about the part timers I talked about. They would want us to hire people, and lie to them and tell them it was 25 plus hours a week, but they would really be getting 10 hours a week, 2 shifts. So, most people we hired, when they realized that (I actually told a few of them off the bat if I could see they were really needing money, Id go look, you better go find another job cause you'll only get 2 shifts here) was going to be the case, they'd quit. Of course, the DM would blame the high turnover on management. Every 2 to 3 weeks, we'd be hiring new part timers, and within 2 to 3 weeks, they'd all be gone. It would only be me and the 2 other managers for a week (of course we'd be in trouble for working more than 35 hours a week in this time) working the store, then they'd lure some other poor, unsuspecting people in, it was never ending.
Ours did not have a self checkout, just 2 registers, and we were in a very busy area, so from about 4 till 10 pm, we closed at 11 (unlike other DGs, this one stayed open an hour later due to the high volume it did), the place was slammed 7 days a week.
And you know another shitty company with similar policies? Family Dollar.
@@treysimmons7707 I feel your pain. Dollar Tree seems to be another "high-turnover" company. Many stores understaffed, with aisles obstructed with palettes of unopened boxes of goods to be shelved and merchandised, and not enough employees to do the job. Sad...
I know these are older folks, but look at how dignified they are. There's no running, pushing, or shoving. What happened to human beings. I love this.
Absolutely priceless! Let's create a world of Joy, Peace & Harmony! We can do it! Plus, Woolworth's had the best Fries & grilled cheese sandwiches on the planet! Oh, I almost forgot amount the fresh smell of popcorn with butter as you entered inside of the front door! What a beautiful life.

I remember my dad and I going to Woolworth's to the cafeteria. Sandwiches and Jello topped with whipped cream, and fond memories.
They had club sandwiches that were served with fries, a pickle and a small side of coleslaw. It was a real treat for us when my grandmother would take us for a day out! Woolworth's, an all day movie then Horn & Hardart's for dinner! They had a picture of what food was behind the little door. I remember how heavy the tray was with their little brown dishes!
I'd get a grilled cheese & fruit punch.
The last Woolworths store is in Bakersfield,CA. the in-store diner, is there with the original restaurant menu.👍
In my mind, these memories feel like yesterday, but when I see these videos I actually realize how long ago that was.
It simultaneously feels like 100 years ago and also 2 days ago lol
It's strange watching this and realizing how much has changed over the years. Nice Christmas decorations they have there. At 7:12 seeing those GE Christmas light boxes brings back memories. I always like the GE lights because of the colors they had, and they were great quality. As others have mentioned, it's nice to see people walking around without a phone in their face or yacking loudly so anyone within 2 aisles can hear your conversation. It's nice as well to see people dressed accordingly for being in public. Ladies dressed nicely with makeup on, and guys dressed in dress shirts.
Everything in that store was just so special!! Look at all that Christmas stuff! WOw!!!!!!
WOW! Two employees at each register and they are all open.
Notice how they were all at the door BUT when the door was unlocked not one person bum rushed the door! No chaos, not fighting. I mean it did happen back then but NOWHERE near like now!
Thank God ,They could've broken a hip if they had.
@@nuttybar9 lol TRUE! When I first started watching this that was my first thought, “omg PLEASE don’t pounce on each other!”
I remember all this from the 60's!! Miss the lunch counter; favorite was the grilled cheese! And checking out after shopping was with the old registers, no scanning back then. I still have a couple scarves my mom bought at our Woolworth's way back when...
The store is so well- stocked and organized! This is such a nice blast from the past. Everyone seemed so relaxed and content😊
I miss the 90’s 😢
And 80's and 70's .... :(
yes 70's and early 80's for me as well
This is nostalgic. We had a Woolworth's in my hometown of Kenosha, WI growing up that wasn't quite as big as this one but still large (it was the first and only store I ever visited that had both a small diner area AND an escalator inside). Unfortunately it closed right around the same time that this video was made. Nice to see one again.
Our Woolworth in Westfield NJ turned into a shoe store, then an arcade. Now, everytime I go there, I can't help but imagine where the lunch counter used to be, and the other departments. I can picture exactly how it looked like back then....***sigh***
@@mollyo4213 Is the building around today? If so, is it even occupied with anything? I remember _Bradlees_ as a kid and sometimes you can find a odd abandoned one off on the edges of New Jersey suburbia. They had a little food counter with fountain drinks in those cube tanks that recirculated the liquid over the inside like a waterfall. Drinks were in those papercups with the orange graphics leftover from the 70s.
@@tigerburn81 Yes, the building is still standing and has become a family arcade. It's nice to know I'm not the only person missing Woolworths!
@@mollyo4213 I'm surprised it's still an arcade. An arcade, like, video games and pinball? I haven't seen one outside of a bowling alley in years.
I was a 16 year old Cuban boy in 1990 in Tampa FL. Those were amazing times in my life.
I like how there is plenty of employees in all departments to help everyone. That's a lot of cashiers compared to today.
Today employees know nothing about the products the store they work at is selling and you're expected to use the self checkout if they have one. The cashiers look really irritated when you don't lol.
I certainly miss this time period. Even when they were waiting outside the doors for the store to open there was no shoving. They proceeded orderly and calmly through the doors. I loved seeing the grandparents searching for little grandbaby outfits and gifts. Love it!
Christmas was so magical back then. Stores actually decorated and were stocked. Now it’s just thrown out and all around. Sad. I wanna go back !
Today, they just can't wait to take down those Christmas decorations on Boxing Day!!
I miss Woolworth's diners! 🍽️ 🥩
The goldfish...
@@darlenegattus8190 Yes..🙂...that we would take home in the little plastic bag filled halfway with water...
As a little kid in the 80’s , I remember eating far too many of those danish cookies from the tin
They still make them
I loved Woolworth’s.Hard to believe such a great company was mismanaged so badly!
I felt the same about Kmart
To alot of people, this seems like an eternity, but to me 1990 seems like yesterday. It was such a nicer time. Especially during Holidays. Christmas anywhere in the past is better than what it is now. Sure do miss the 50's and 60's. They were even better ! Honest ! I grew up in the 50's.
Gosh I wish I could be there...
I wish the U.S. could have stayed like this. Both men and women wore nicer clothes (by far) than they do now. We used to have a dime store or Woolworth here where I live, and it unfortunately closed sometime in the 1990's. That was a nice store, I went in there and bought stuff often. They had good products, there stuff was quality. I regret never eating at the food counter. I used to smell that food when I went in there and it smelled really good.
NO TATTOOS
however, they do have places where there's tattoo removal
You think those hideous late 80s/90s clothes were nice?
@@Arbysroastbeefjuice Yes. Some of them. I like the men's dress slacks and the women's long skirts and dresses. I see people wear weird and ugly clothes nowadays. I myself used to wear clothes that don't look good, not realizing how I looked.
@@Arbysroastbeefjuice some of them were nice and people use deodorant back then nowadays people don't even shower like maybe once every seven days
Walmart ruined America
What! No pushing, shoving or stampedes? What universe was this?
That's exactly what I was thinking
I hear some people even paid for the merchandise…
@@alfredofettuccine9425 trust me there were many shop lifters back then too. but they used to be more discrete.
Walmart wasn't on the scene yet... Today people don't give a sh*t. I miss the past.
As you can see from the video that's because t
most of the shoppers were just elderly people LOL
Back when respect and manners still existed!
These people probably didn't train children, if this was 1990
@@kathleenking47 what do you mean
This brings back a lot of memories good ones
Was a great time if life..I was in high school and remember...it was a better time than we are in today..can't compare much anymore
What is really unbelievable is that five years later all the US stores went out of business💔
In Mexico, we still have Woolworth stores.
@@bibianaguadalupeislasherre9880 that's awesome because I really do miss having them here in the US.
Why is everyone so calm and civil? Lol. The great ole DAYS
that was considered crazy and chaotic. .
These old timers were born into, or grew up in, the Depression. Some of the old men served in WWII or Korea; some of those women lost husbands or sons in those wars. I doubt many had a television until they were adults.
Their minds had not been rotted by MSM.
Much more civil than nowadays. Different generation. They are truly missed
Wow hearing that register tape print out brings back memories!
That lady who took the blue tin of cookies, what a surprise she’s in for when she gets home and opens it and finds needles and thread. 🤣🤣🤣
Man when being a kid was still fun... Woolworths where I found my michael Keaton batman figure..
It's crazy how even the cafe inside Woolworth was packed.
People were hungry
So sweet! The workers have corsages! I feel like crying for what’s been lost.
People waiting orderly and patiently even when they knew the doors had been unlocked. They entered orderly, one by one, letting others pass first, well dressed with a good attitude, not a crowd of angry people behaving like animals. I miss Woolworth, I loved their tuna salad sandwiches and the chocolate milkshakes.
Those tins of the Danish cookies at 2:36 I still get those for my father and they're now at least half the size of the ones in the video.
I know! I wish I had one of those huge white tins a lady had. 😋
Oh man the coffee shop looks amazing!
People were so decent & much more respectful back then
the christmas lights back in the 90s
They were so much better quality than the ones sold today.
@@larrycj4382 Proper filament bulbs, no LED lighting garbage.
Everyone was dressed so nicely!
Today, mostly pyjamas and jogging pants!
PRICELES FOOTAGE ,A TRIP BACK TO A MORE CIVILIZED ERA IT SOUNDS LIKE CHRISTMAS THE WAY IT SHOULD , NOT LIKE THE OVERPOWERED WORLD OF TODAY
This seems so long ago while at the same time feels like yesterday. I was in high school when this was recorded. I can’t even wrap my head around that.
I was a sophomore in college. Looking back, it was such a different world. People seemed to be more friendly and happy. Not a cell phone in sight.
Fair enough.
Keeping up was awful.
Simple times in good old 1990 thank u for video. Christmas will always be special and best time of year.
I want to go back, makes me so homesick.
