Hi may i ask isn't there a fuse at the plug? Does it not prevent the thermal fuse blowing?
That's fuse were usually 13Amp ... Very rare that's fuse will blown off
I enjoyed the video but need to comment on what you called a thermal "fuse". It is actually a one shot thermal switch. The amp rating is the maximum current for the switch, there is no wire to melt and open the circuit. The contacts of the thermal switch use a spring and wax pellet that melts at the rated temperature allowing the contacts to spring open breaking the circuit. When fans get dirty they will slow down and the motor will get hot and that's what happened to the one I got. I have bypassed the thermal switch but plan to replace it with a thermal circuit breaker that resets when it cools.
Thanks to your constructive comments ... and thanks again for your visit..
Question: A fan with a fuse preinstalled in the plug on the Live (Lasko) and 2 amp Thermal Fuse on the Neutral to the Capacitor, would you still recommend the preventative 1.5 amp glass fuse installed on the incoming Neutral (outside the Motor)?
no need ...
16:10 shows the most important thing: 9 ohm.
Too low even for highest speed.
The thermal switch didn't disconnect for nothing. Twice.
Partial short is present.
Sir the thick dust caused the coils to heat up due to poor air circulation inside the fan to cool the coils. Adding lower amp fuse will not do much help if you allow dust to accumulate. Just regularly clean and oil your fan will prolong its life.
Yes, you are right
19:38 Exactly what I have been waiting for someone to address when 'oiling' a fan: the oil wick surrounding the bushing needs a good amount of 'fan oil' or other suitable non-detergent oil.
Can I replace the thermal fuse by normal glass fuse ?
I can afford good holder and location for it. But will that work?
somebody was generous enough to give me answer as I have the same question today via FB. I did open too my fan motor due to out-of-order problem. Unfortunately I broke the same type of thermal sensor /fuse . Try 2Amperes 250volts 135 degrees celcius.
thank you very much you're such a big help. i enjoyed and understand your instructions. looking forward in learning more about electric fan repair with different problems. I don't know how to use the multi tester though.
You're welcome ... And thanks for your visit 😀

Nice tip for easier repair when the fuse blows next time.
mikel77 that's were the main idea .. thanks for your visit
better is he should have put a fuse housing on the 1.5A for easier replacement should it blows next time
what is the brand of this fan? really curious about it, kdk, khind? or panasonic?
Hi ive got a standing fan that only spins wen I press the high button and the medium button at the same time and I've cleaned it tried a new capacitor regressed the gears can a faulty furmal fuse cause that problem
Broken wire or faulty speed selector
Thank you very much bang for this video, i have a salvaged KDK fan which does not turn so going to try this. Do you have any schematic which i can see how the wiring goes please? Terima Kasih
Do motors with brushes carry thermal fuse like small pressure washer tks
NO .. but sometimes they have load breaker
Hi.. what should be the thermal fuse reading if i test it?? Thank u
None .. normally closed or NC
@@KluangmanCooleck what is NC means
@@pancakeyummy4070 normally close
@@KluangmanCooleck ok thank u 😊
A thermal fuse is not the same as a regular (glass) fuse. The 2A rating of your thermal fuse does not mean that it will blow above 2A. This means only that it should be used in a device that uses no more than 2A.
Thermal fuses do not blow due to current overload or short circuit. They blow only because they get hot .
Can I replace the thermal fuse by normal glass fuse ?
I can afford good holder and location for it. But will that work?
Does the regular fuse blow up because of heat?
I do not think this tip will actually serve the purpose of preventing the thermal fuse blown. The function of the thermal fuse is to prevent over heating of the coil and it works based on temperature. Whereas your added current fuse is located in the switch box where it is based on current drawn which is for different purpose.
MC Liu yes .. your are correct at something there, but base on logic ,the thermal fuse were 2A 130c and it's will blow either when the amp in the coil over 2A or the temperature reached 130c .. which came first ? The coil will never heat up to 130c even if you run the fan for 24hrs full speed as long as the fan blades were spinning normally without getting stuck somewhere and the air circulation at the fan motor were normal without getting block by build-up dust ... And only when the fan blades were abnormal .. the load in the coil will rose and the amp will surely getting higher and do remember ,the add-on fuse were only 1.5A and if I have a 1A fuse with me, I will surely use the smaller one ... Anyway thanks for your opinions and thanks again for dropping by ...
This info is so correct since one fuse blows because of an increase in temp from the coil over heating and the other is current drawn or current supplied.
@@KluangmanCooleck Don't think the Chinese really give H-type insulation in these fans.
With a partial short the windings heat up even to 130+/-5 celsius and the fan rotating (I measured with a K-type thermocouple without cowling).
I suspect that even 110-120 centigrade will cause melting/short in the laquer insulation in these fans. So the thermal switch disconnects, but some damage to the windings is already done.
I would recommend a 100 centigrade switch replacement.
And replacing the sintered bronze sleeves by ball bearings (like 6300zz or 6300rs for 10mm shafts) in fans with steel frames (not the rubbish aluminum like in this video).
Very informative, easy to follow except all the electrical checks. You are a wiz at soldering
I try to make my video as a guide, so I have to make it as clear as possible, step by step. For those who wish to repair their own fans at home and the procedure were always starts from (A to Z) not the other way around and and thanks for your nice comments and thanks again for your visit
*Never* solder a thermal fuse. Only crimp the fuse wires. Soldering will shorten the life of the fuse.
Very nice video, ?Do you always have to replace the thermal fuse with the same value,Thank You.
Winston Clarke yes ... Please use the same rate ... or you can use a smaller one but don't use thermal fuse with higher rate than original ... Or you can use circuit cut off thermal fuse
Thank You.
In your video you added an extra fuse a glass fuse, your link refer to amazon, but at amazon there are fuse that says ( quick blow car glass tube fuse ) and fast blow glass fuse, do they all work the same.way Thanks.
Winston Clarke the fast blow fuse were better than the fuse which I used ... Choose the smaller amp ... Let's say the thermal fuse were 2A 130c ... The extra fuse would be 1A ...
Hi there, great videos :). Do these common fan run capacitors (mine is CBB61, 450VAC 1.2uf) tend to hold a charge, and what resistor should I bleed it with in that case?
Resistor ? Did your fan using resistor to control the speed...like cycling fans for example..
No, I meant using a spare resistor to bleed off any residual charge in the run capacitor so as to not get a shock from it, even out of circuit.
if you a very sensitive to electricity kind of person, you just need to short circuit between L and N at the power plug with speed selector turn on before dismantling the fans for precaution but the residual charge in the capacitor were too small and its will fade away less than a minute after power off
Awesome. Thanks for your advice.
And thank you for your visit ..have a nice day
Several strings of the copper coil is connected to the wires on the motor.. I accidently yanked the cover off and 2 wire coils snapped.. can i just connect it back?
Yes you can ... A to A .. B to B ....

Temperature and ampere of the thermal fuse???
Very good professional job! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
sir will it work without laying thermal fuse back again?
Yes .. it can run without thermal fuse
@@KluangmanCooleck if no thermal fuse the motor will be destroy?
@@joelmontealegre.banaco1224 no .. install additional 1 or 1.5 amp .. fuse as a circuit breaker ..
@Kluangman Cooleck The purpose of a thermal fuse is to open and cut off power if temperatures get high too high.
It is bad advice to say it is OK to take out the thermal fuse. If your fan didn’t have a thermal fuse, your house may have burned down. It is this important.
tell me the specifications or your soldering kit, please.
Judging from how black the tip is, I would say it's probably some generic cheap iron. Radioshack sold an iron similar to that which had junky nickel plated copper tips that would turn black and burn the nickel off.
I would recommend something like a 40W Weller or Hakko soldering station. They're $50-$160, but well worth it, you'll spend more buying cheap replacement irons with tips that burn up.
GGigabiteM Got it, thanks for the recommendation :)
question, why don't you just replace the fuse at the plug with the 1.5A instead of placing it inside?
s.k a very good question .... If you have the same size fuse which can fit into the power plug .. go ahead ... But normally that's fuse were rarely blown off ... and to search for that's fuse with smaller amp rate .... Emmmmm it quite difficult ....
and maybe you have to search every electrical store at your hometown just to find one
so the fuse you installed are not the same physical size compared to the ones in the plug?
s.k yes ...
thank you, that was very helpful

Why will you prevent thermal fuse to blow up..it serves as prevention from overheating that may cause fire..when it reached the indicated temp of the the TF, it prevents the continuous flow of current thus preventing fire..🤔
read the video Description please .. and thank you for your concern
I couldn't find a 130-degrees Celsius so I put a 155-c too much?
Why you use another fuse and wear you conect the small fuse
If you have a fuse, which is the same size with the fuse in the power plug ... Just replace the smaller amp fuse there .... Such as 1A or 1.5A ... Because the thermal fuse inside the coil are 2A ..
How can replace this type of bush which fixed , tell me about this.
SK Mainuddin when the bushes wear out , there are nothing that we can do , some said replace the bushes .. but it seem impossible to find that kind of bushes anywhere ... If you have another spoil fan which damaged coil .. try to re-use the motor housing ..
I can send you a couple or two of these sleeve bushings, but you have to immerse them every year into a heated to 100 centigrade (boiling water bath) motor oil.,
Simple wetting of the outside of the bushings by oil (even SAE 5) will not let in enough oil to lubricate for a year of work (like 1000 hours of rotation).
*Never* fuse only the N (neutral) wire. This is dangerous. If using only 1 fuse *always* fuse the L (line) wire.
I don't understand why the thermal fuse is installed in a sensitive part of the
motor area which is not easy to replace when it is blown off
It needs to be placed near the area that gets hot in order to prevent a fire from happening. If I'm not wrong.
Adding the extra fuse will do nothing. The thermal fuse blows at the temperature written on the body of the fuse, not the current. Your fan failed because of poor maintenance, which caused the windings to overheat. To prevent this from happening again, you need to periodically clean the junk out of the air passages of the fan and to add lubrication for the bearings.
Hi my fan not working I check all
why do you add another 1.5A fuse when you could replace the one in the connector that is probably another 2A by the 1.5A one without any work ?
Forget my question, I found the answer lower : wrong size !
OK muy bien
the thermal fuse should always be the prime suspect on any small motor failure.
Err... 2 hours labour @£50/hour plus the fuse and solder to take apart and fix a £30 fan? Recyle the parts!
Labour cost in Myanma 50 quid an hour??
