I have an industrial fan that cost a lot of money, so, I set myself to fix it, and it took me very little time instead of buying another one looking at your example, thank you Kluangman, it was fun.

My son can operate the switch super easy with the 3-speeds. And the openings around the fan are not wide enough for tiny fingers which is perfect if you have young ones in the house . We would definitely purchase this again.
I have a tip for you guys as to how to fix the thermal fuse. Don't snip it off since it's already an open circuit and will do no harm. Buy a whole bunch of spare thermal fuses from Ali Express (in case you have other devices and you fix funs for a living) and just solder two long wires to the two terminals of the blown fuse. Then attach the thermal fuse to the other ends of these wires without applying heat crimping is preferred. Wrap fuse in Kapton tape or insert in silicon heat resistant tube and attach it near the coils It does not have to be at the same original place as long as it can sense the heat from the coils.
artwdeetoo: Did the fan shop spinning because of the thermal fuse "shorted" and the fan blade is tight to turn freely. Did you oil the bearing area. I use a 10 weight oil used in Hunter ceiling fans to lubricate this type of fan.
Thank you so much, but you didn't say what was that small transistor type component which was blown off and for what purpose it was provided,now you removed it are two wires with coil wires shortened. Will it be good without that small component.
The component remove is the thermal fuse. It will run but if it overheats that safety will not be there. The fan could OVERHEAT... and it could start a FIRE. The fact that the fuse was blown means the fan has likely overheated before. You should find out why the fuse was blown and fix that first. Better to replace the fuse than to short it. (Sorting it is reasonable for troubleshooting if that is the problem but not a permanent solution.)
Klungman: You repaired the fan less the safety feature in the motor. It can cause a fire. If it did not, and the fan stopped working, you would have burnt out the motor. The way you fixed it, you could have same the time and effort of removing the "thermal fuse" (the small flat square 130 degrees celcius). You could have just kept the two wires twisted together (when you tested the circuit with your meter. Just twisting the rwo wires together (soldering it) then wrap insulation over it. Final step, tie down all the wires down with zip ties (cutting it close with a nail clipper would rid the cit ends being sharp. When I remove the Thermo cut off (fuse), I replace it with an NTE8103 that has a rating of only 103 degrees celcius. Thus making the fan safer to use.
The removed small component is a thermal fuse. It protects the circuit from overheating. You can short circuit it during the trouble shooting, but you need to replace it if is faulty. You cannot just remove it, doing that you will remove the fire protection!

You will find out that this is a fix on most any motor. They all have this thermal fuse in the windings. You can buy these thermal fuses at an Appliance store near you. You could just solder the two wires together but you won't have any protection if a short happens in the future, so it is best to buy the fuse and do it the right way!

Many people get satisfaction from fixing things. That's worth a lot. Also, if you have any consideration for the environment then think about how many of these small appliances accumulate in the trash dump because nobody cared to fix it.

wall fan or table fan or stand fan for home use, usually have a same type of motor and these type of motor only use copper or stainless steel bushes as a bearing and almost all of these fans had a same shaft diameter.. and with some creativity .. you can mix almost all parts but do remember, be extra careful
Frank Fam try to check the power cord from speed selector to power plug and check your incoming power socket looking for broken wire and lastly insert the power plug, turn on and measure incoming voltage from before the speed selector between L and N and you must have a reading 230V or 110V depending which were used in your country ...

You connect to the wrong running coil .. . Basically ... 3 speed coil have 4 coil and one coil are for starting running ... Choose the most low resistance to the capacitor ..

The shaft of rotor freely rotates when plugged off. But as electricity is connected, it tightens and make a sound(i.e. sound of not being able to rotate). Do you have any idea about the problem? Please share if any. And thanks for your video.

ihave found most 18 fans run hot due to high capacitor uf..for ex 2.5 uf if you replace it with a 2.0 uf the fan runs very well does not overspeed or heatup…
Hello im in real trouble. I open the case and removed the ossilator knob now when i fix it back fan works but it wont rotate sideways also that rough feeling in the knob is gone. Theres is a metal knob and a spring in side the ball fell down when i removed not sure whether i fixed it back correctly help please i can email you photos.

It's pretty hard to overheat an induction motor in the first place, so it makes me wonder what tripped the thermal. These motors need regular oiling. They run cool and quiet when oiled and they don't oil them enough when new, in my opinion. This seems to be the best protection from overheating.
SevenDeMagnus with higher capacitor .. the speed will increase ... and same with the temperature ... If the original was 1.7 ... 2.0 to 3.0... Still safe ... Higher than that ... no .. I won't recommend higher than 3.5.. if you fan blade were made from plastic ... It dengerous .. over speed ..
My fan was working just fine but I took it apart to clean the blades then it stopped working. I thought water got into the motor so I used a hair dryer to dry it out. It still does not work. A little fuse I can change but I cannot do any complicated even after watching your video

Without turning on the power supply ... The fan must spin freely when you spin it by hand ... try to alignment the bush ... By gently knocking the shaft ... Add some oil on the bush at both sides
this fan has no a/c defect, the armature is observed to be dead accurate and it may spin for one minute then stops and only hums. could the capacitor be at fault?

Tq v much for this, I did exactly what you showed in this video and found the thermal fuse was the problem. The rating is 130°C 1A at 250V.

So why did the motor get hot enough to trip the thermal element?

wall fan or table fan or stand fan for home use, usually have a same type of motor and these type of motor only use copper or stainless steel bushes as a bearing and almost all of these fans had a same shaft diameter.. and with some creativity .. you can mix almost all parts but do remember, be extra careful

Frank Fam try to check the power cord from speed selector to power plug and check your incoming power socket looking for broken wire and lastly insert the power plug, turn on and measure incoming voltage from before the speed selector between L and N and you must have a reading 230V or 110V depending which were used in your country ...
the coil might be shorted & need to be recoiled. check up the resistance of the coils
Check the thermal fuse to see if it is blown.
Hey! I got a problem with my fan. It slowly started to stop functioning. Like it's "battery" was draining and then it completely stopped and won't go on anymore. Any suggestion of what it could be? I have opened it and checked for wire damages and if there's something preventing it to spin. Thanks.

You connect to the wrong running coil .. . Basically ... 3 speed coil have 4 coil and one coil are for starting running ... Choose the most low resistance to the capacitor ..

The shaft of rotor freely rotates when plugged off. But as electricity is connected, it tightens and make a sound(i.e. sound of not being able to rotate). Do you have any idea about the problem? Please share if any. And thanks for your video.

3uf capacitor 400/450v will suit 240v motor
and its will last longer then the 240v capacitor

If the fan were still under warranty ... Sent it back to the shop which you bought it from ... Something broken or mulfunction..
ihave found most 18 fans run hot due to high capacitor uf..for ex 2.5 uf if you replace it with a 2.0 uf the fan runs very well does not overspeed or heatup…

Hello im in real trouble. I open the case and removed the ossilator knob now when i fix it back fan works but it wont rotate sideways also that rough feeling in the knob is gone. Theres is a metal knob and a spring in side the ball fell down when i removed not sure whether i fixed it back correctly help please i can email you photos.
Ranul Pasan there's one bearing placed at each end of the hole and total of 2 bearings ... If you only putting one , it's wont work ...

Your speed selector not working... Something broken... Or poor condition of the contract point ... Dismantle the speed selector ... And check for broken components..

Boss my shaft got stuck due to the liquid that is coming out of the motor. It's working but very hard to rotate. Turning very slow and tight. What to do.PLEASE HELP ME

And then use a very light oil to lubricate the shaft such as sawing machine oil

It's pretty hard to overheat an induction motor in the first place, so it makes me wonder what tripped the thermal. These motors need regular oiling. They run cool and quiet when oiled and they don't oil them enough when new, in my opinion. This seems to be the best protection from overheating.

SevenDeMagnus with higher capacitor .. the speed will increase ... and same with the temperature ... If the original was 1.7 ... 2.0 to 3.0... Still safe ... Higher than that ... no .. I won't recommend higher than 3.5.. if you fan blade were made from plastic ... It dengerous .. over speed ..

My fan was working just fine but I took it apart to clean the blades then it stopped working. I thought water got into the motor so I used a hair dryer to dry it out. It still does not work. A little fuse I can change but I cannot do any complicated even after watching your video

I did not see you replace the thermal fuse..i am not half as good as you i cant even use a circuit tester properly but i always replace the thermal fuse as it is important in preventing a fire in the motor.

if the fan blade spin freely when you spin it by hand ... that mean,you have to replace the capacitor ... but if the fan blade were quit heavy or some kind of tight when you trying to spin it by hand ... follow the step which shown in the video

Without turning on the power supply ... The fan must spin freely when you spin it by hand ... try to alignment the bush ... By gently knocking the shaft ... Add some oil on the bush at both sides

this fan has no a/c defect, the armature is observed to be dead accurate and it may spin for one minute then stops and only hums. could the capacitor be at fault?
