  • In this video I review five reasons for why I wear wigs. I also discuss and show my hair loss. I have androgenic and traction alopecia. In addition, I discuss my history of wearing toppers and wigs. Lastly, I show three wigs, Forever Chic by Gabor, Stella by Ellen Wille, and Miranda Lite by Jon Renau.

    I started wearing wigs because I wanted to be able to change up my look without the commitment. Now that I'm having hair loss and thinning, wigs have become even more important to me and I'm very happy that I started wearing them before I needed them.

    I use to wear human hair wig for about a year and gave up because it was so much work and was way too thick. 5 years later I'm contemplating a synthetic. I'm balding in front. I enjoy your videos. I'm not crazy about wig channels that have people with normal hair wearing wigs.

      I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying my videos!😊I'm thankful for everyone who helps normalize wig wearing but I also identify more with women who experience hair loss.🤗 I hope you find a synthetic wig you love. I personally prefer synthetic and heat friendly synthetic wigs over alternative human hair.💖

    People have been wearing fake nails for ages, why not hair?! Looks amazing. I am brand new to this journey but I love that this content is out there and I am blown away by the selection and quality of toppers and wigs. Spending hundreds on treatments to try to regrow what I’ve lost, when it was never that great anyway sounds less appealing to me now ❤

    Michele, thank you for your incredible honesty regarding the reason you wear wigs. It’s so helpful to us who have the same issues. I’m wearing toppers and occasionally wigs. I’ve gradually increased the crown size of my toppers because of continued hair thinning and loss. I know eventually I will have to only wear wigs. I find your videos so helpful in caring for wigs. You look beautiful in the wigs you review. 😊

      You're not alone and I understand fully. I finally just went all wigs in 2015....I used to do half wigs abd if you have enough hair on the sides to pull it over they can be great. Forever Young makes some nice half wigs and Amazon has some too. Now I'm all wig. Once I accepted it, it became very addictive, a new wig is like a new outfit to me and I find myself buying wigs a lot ! I'm 54 years old so one is never too old for a wig. It makes me feel so much prettier and what's wrong with that, right ? Hugs to you 🥰

    Thank you for sharing your story. You have the perfect face shape for wigs. I could definitely get by without wigs, but it would take too long. It would involve heat and fluffing. Not to mention dying it every 4 weeks. I hate it when people discourage you from wearing wigs. It is an accessory that makes me feel better! There is a lot of bad hair out there! More folks need to wear them.

    This was really interesting. One thing I struggle with is higher density wigs … your comment about hair looking like it’s been styled by a celebrity stylist really is the source of my anxiety - I feel soooo self conscious when my hair is gorgeous. I’m 66 and have been invisible for so many years hiding under sunglasses and a cap, so having people look at me is something I often can’t deal with. I know that they’re looking at the hair, most of the time they have no idea it’s a wig. So I look for wigs that don’t have that Salon look. I’m now 3 years into my journey, I’m slowly getting more confident, but I slide back into anxiety when I sense people looking. But I LOVE my wigs, never go outside the farm without one. One positive thing is that I now wear makeup much more than I used to, and it’s nice to see a made up face in the mirror again.

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  Рік тому +1

      Hi Jill! When you are new to wearing wigs, it can feel strange and it takes time to get used to it. If you have hair loss, a wig may seem like a lot of hair. You could always wear it around the farm for a while until you feel more comfortable. If you are interested in looking at low density wigs, Ellen Wille and the Jon Renau Lite Collection are known for their low density styles. Best of luck with your journey - you're not alone!💖

    Isn't it weird how people try to comfort by actually invalidating what is obvious. It has happened so many times, even back when the hairloss started.
    I would rather hear straight out what I see myself, instead of them trying to "comb over" (pun intended). Not only being affected by the hairloss itself, but also with close relatives not understanding or wanting to understand the situation makes for a lonely situation.

    Hi Michele! I started wearing toppers and never thought I’d be able to get used to wearing wigs. I had so much trouble tying back my hair. That ponytail in back would ALWAYS pop out through the wefts. I sewed clips on the wigs. Tried glue. What a mess. Tried bulky wig grips.
    I finally cut my useless hair to a 1/2” long and the process of trying on and keeping wigs on became so easy and enjoyable. All I need now, to keep it on, is an adjustment to the 2 straps at the nape.

    I agree with Laura Anne and appreciate your videos that get the point across quickly. You look great in all of the wigs and colors you showed. Lately I have been trying to not wear the wig grips as they sometimes give me headaches. One of the wigs I first purchased in a store had plastic combs- not the metal snap clips sewn in each side by the ears. They are sold with a piece of fabric attached to them and are bigger but seem to hold the wig on very well. And they don't give me those traction's spots. Do you use wig grips? I can't remember seeing you with them. Thanks again. Xo

    I appreciate you sharing your story, and what a beautiful message at the end! I've worn wigs in the past, but always struggled with the synthetic fibres itching, but now I'm contemplating trying a human hair wig. I know I have contact allergy to certain plastics, so that might be why the synthetic wigs itch for me. I've also androgenic alopecia and changes to my hairline. My hair is just barely thicker than yours, but with deeper hairline and it's naturally curly. Styling takes forever, I can only ever keep it in a side parting, and I hide my hairline with a headband. That amount of work it takes to make my hair look presentable is starting to really annoy me. So I think at this point I'd just feel more confident in a wig.

Wigs are a wonderful solution and I feel much less self conscious wearing a wig than I did about my hair loss. In fact, I like sharing information about my wigs with almost anyone who is willing to listen!🤣 Here is some basic info. to help get you started. If you don't have a wig store nearby that you can visit to learn more about wigs and try them on, then I highly recommend making an appointment for an online wig consultation. I know that wigs.com and wigstudio1.com both offer free virtual consultations. Here's a link to the wigs.com Wig Buyer's Guide that can help get you started in choosing the right wig for you - www.wigs.com/pages/wig-buyers-guide. Also, since I am a teenager, I tend to often feel hot and I am hypersensitive so unless it’s cool, my hair is getting me crazy! So I wear them short, which I like but I love change. So recently, I shaved it because it was damaged from bleach and I hated te look on me. I decided to buy a wig until it grows but now I am hooked! Much easier, love the fact that I can change my looks all the time. At 47, I have decided that I will do this because it makes me feel good 😊 I must add that before buying a wig, I asked my husband what he would think If I would buy a wig (not to change my decision, but just to know his opinion). Thank you for sharing your story Michelle! You give me so much confidence because you are beautiful and they look so real on you. My hair is very fine, slippery and thin, from chemo and I'm wondering how do you keep your wigs from slipping around? The wig grip comes right off my head if I tug on my wig, so I have been using the double-sided tape on the front hairline and back of the neck. It holds very well but really hurts pulling it off. Any suggestions for a better option? Thank you so very much!

    • @micheleswigreviews
      @micheleswigreviews  Рік тому

      You are very welcome, Jeanine! I'm so sorry to hear about what you have been through. I normally only tighten or loosen the adjusters on the wig and it's pretty secure. I know that does not work for everyone. There are several ways you can secure your wig. First, I wanted to ask about your wig grip sliding off your head. Is it a velvet grip? If so, they have to be put on in a very specific direction or else they'll slip. The label should usually be on the outside and right side of your head. If your wig grip is on the right way and is still slipping, you could use some It Stays Body Adhesive by Jon Renau or Got2B spray (yellow can) to help secure your wig. Although I don't have experience with them, I know many wig wearers use these products to help their wigs stay on. (You can find videos for how to use these products on UA-cam.) If you do use these products, you will need to loosen the hold before taking your wig off. They can be taken off with a warm washcloth or shampoo. Lastly, regarding the double sided tape you mentioned, is that the Walker Lace Front wig tape? If so, I would keep it away from any bio hair and be sure to use Jon Renau's Lace Let Go Adhesive Remover to remove the tape. Hopefully this will help. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best with your treatments!💖
