      Thanks for watching! Could you give me some tips on how you managed to open it? Or was it just pure luck?

    I was able to unlock mine 1/2 way through viewing this video . I put pressure on the locks by pulling them apart AND angling upwards at the same time (as though i was trying to snap it with my hands). I did the far left dial first and then with in 3-4 mins had unlocked it left to right. have now reset the combo and recorded in my password file :) . Pretty happy with that. thanks for the video

      Great tip, I never thought of that, you'll be putting the tension exactly where it needs to be by doing that. Glad you've had success, thanks for sharing!

    Thanks for the video. I found the exact same lock during a Spehrrmull (bulk garbage day) yesterday here in Germany and your technique worked for me. Also glad I watched the whole thing to know NOT to change the combination for fear of having to do that again. But since I normally sell stuff I find at Spehrrmulls and have 8 bicycles already, I'll just include this lock as a bonus with one of the bicycles once I post it to eBay. I only wish the shipping part was easier. Thanks again!

      I played around with it and saw everything I couldn't see in the video. It's a very simple design and one way the manufacturers could make it less hackable would be to machine the bolt and the gates to a a finer standard of tolerance. That way there would be little if any "play" or "give" in the bolt when the mechanism is locked. Almost forgot! I once found a locked combination safe with some tantalising metal-sounding parts inside. This was before the internet so what I did was take apart my existing combination safe to figure out how it worked, then went to a store that sells safes for the purposes of intelligence gathering. I found out that this model had 4 numbers, which was key, each 0-99. Since I knew that the gates were only 9 digits wide, I narrowed it down to just 14,641 combinations. I used a very similar technique to the one for the bicycle lock to diagnose the last number, so that left me with just 1331 combinations. Since the wheels all had to be aligned to the right for each attempt, that meant each try took about 2 minutes. I printed out all 1331 combinations, and just started doing them all at random, dutifully crossing each one off. 2 weeks later, having tried just about 40% of the numbers I managed to open the safe. That tantalising metal sound had been the montage bolts that came with the safe. I still have both safes to this day.

      Sun Rabbit Thanks for watching, I’m glad it helped you to understand how these locks work! It is because of tolerance issues that we can find alternative means of decoding these locks instead of having to go through all combinations. Unfortunately lock manufacturers aren’t likely to change their design any time soon, it is true that even the more expensive brands have weaknesses in construction.

    You have more patience than I do. I threw my lock away, I could not figure out the combination. Guess I don't make a good locksmith.

      It’s true that I could have opened it destructively and been done with it, but what’s the fun in that? I love a puzzle and nobody likes to be defeated, but being defeated AND being a bad loser is a whole lot worse! I’d rather just practise and get in shape for the rematch!! Thanks for stopping by, there are sometimes those few that just stump you no matter what unfortunately, and even the locksmiths have them... they generally result in drill bits being used.

    Very nice review - love to listen when you talk about your lock. I also found it very hard to decode bike locks like this as it's really exhausting with pulling and turning. For practicing I clamped on side in a vice and pulled on the other. You also can use a screwdriver to turn the wheels. Cheers.

      Thank you my friend, at some points I actually used my foot on the cable to tension the lock. It really was quite a surprise to see what security features were hidden in this lock.

    This looks like the lock my friend gave me the other day. He knows I pick locks and thought I'd crack it. So far no go. I thought you said you only managed to crack it by trying evry number until you happened to get the correct combo?

    a very thin shim knife stuck in between the number s whilst turning the one it's next to you'll feel the real gate

      akki dhruva There are quite a lot of videos explaining how to decode these locks, basically you pull the two sides of the lock apart and turn each dial until you feel a slight give, sometimes the dials will pop into place or become loose when they are in the correct position.

    Hello Hobby Picker. I have an OG lock that I have tried and tried to pick. I am unsuccessful. Can I take it to a locksmith and have them try? It is a quality lock as I remember. I purchased it maybe 5 years ago or more.

    • @HobbyPicker

      Jean McClenathen What type of core does it have? From experience, locksmiths that have good knowledge of lock picking are very hard to find but feel free to try, probably not much harm in trying, just make sure you state clearly that you don’t want it cropped off! I might be in a better position to advise if you have pictures, feel free to email me at hobbypicker@gmail.com

    fuck this lock is such a pain...turning it while applying pressure since the gates without tension are already hard to turn

      It certainly does offer an impressive level of decoding resistance

      I'm sorry, I'm based in the UK and have no Spanish speaking abilities. Have you checked to see if UA-cam can auto translate it for you?

    This vid. Should have only been about 5 minutes at best. U need to cut down on the fluff and get straight to it. Just constructive criticism. No offense intended.

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  4 роки тому +1

      I'm sorry the video was not satisfactory, I am continuously trying to improve my videos, and have analysed my viewing statistics which do show that people enjoy shorter videos, so I will be focusing on doing this in the future. Of course there's a fine line between that and not putting enough content in, I always want my videos to be educational for all. I appreciate your feedback and absolutely approve of constructive criticism. If you have any questions regarding combination locks (or anything else lock related) please contact me via the email address in the description.

      That’s the general idea of a UA-cam video explaining something, unfortunately I don’t really cater for the 5 second attention spans.

    LMAO! cut thrugh VERY easily??? not if you DONT have a good pair of CABLE cutter, any body got a pair. SO I can CUT MY DAMN look off? as these HACKING VIDS just AREN'T cutting it with MY particular situation> GRRR.

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  3 роки тому

      I would suggest that if you aren’t prepared to cut the lock off then you perhaps aren’t in a suitable position to decode it either. Did you consider that it may be possible for you to acquire a set of cable cutters from your local hardware store? I make lockpicking tutorials too, but if people aren’t prepared to buy the picks then I can’t help!

    surely you know that lock can be shimmed in about 3 minutes and have a 99% success rate if done properly
